My husband and I have been frequent flyers at the South Sioux Don'$ location. We're very excited…read morethey've been able to expand. I'm going to try and not make this review a comparison between the two. The location isn't the easiest to get to, but parking is ample. It's also connected to a family fun center and a bowling alley. Right across the lot is the city's minor-minor-minor (I don't know the official term) baseball league home. It's all next to an ice rink that is used for sports and recreation. It's a great family-friendly area of Sioux City. Food is the same as the SSC location which is wonderful. They have the BEST burgers in town. I also LOVE their fries. The only thing not making these restaurants my favorites is the ranch dressing. They just use generic, bottled ranch. It's not good. I'd kill if they made actual 'restaurant' ranch. I've literally brought in my own ramekin of ranch when I'm craving a meal I usually eat with it. BUT, the brown gravy and queso are to die for. It would be a part of my last meal. Staff is great. This area has a smaller bar than the SSC area, but the bartenders whip up everything the same. I don't drink, but they're down for their margaritas. This place is kinda like a locally-owned Chilis, but with better food. A great place for even a couple drinks and some poutine.

I'm going to stretch out and give this place the 5th star! I typically try to stay away from…read morerestaurants that have a denomination before a family member, because they're usually a train wreck. Like "5 Guys" (which is absolute garbage, and I have no idea how this place stays in business, because I've never seen a single one of these have any customers inside) But I'm digressing, and I'm glad I gave this place a shot! I walked over here, and I walked through the patio dining area, through the patio entrance/exit, not realizing that the main exit was just around the corner of the building but I made it in anyhow. The kid up front was super nice, and asked me where I wanted to sit and I chose the bar, naturally! This place is super clean, even the bathrooms, so that was really nice. A bunch of TVs, and I think I even saw signage for live music on Fridays? But it's a pretty big venue, and they even have their own private dining room for private parties, at least I'm guessing. My bartender, was a spitting image of a woman I know in the town where I live, in the Eastern Sierra mountains. I literally had to double take and triple take to make sure it wasn't her. But unlike the lady I know, this bartender was nothing short of excellent! One star goes for the knowledgeable bartender, and the successful owner knowing that 'extra lime' means WEDGES, not WHEELS. It wasn't too busy in there, but she was really attentive to the bar patrons, and was on top of her game. Everybody sitting at the bar area, were so nice to one another, we were all talking and I ended up meeting this really nice, older gentleman that I chit-chatted with up until he left. I love the fact that the people here are so open and comfortable with one another and can engage in friendly banter. So that being said, my bartender constantly kept an eye on me and never interrupted my conversations when she wanted to offer me another drink or to order supper. She always timed it perfectly right! I'm on a no carb kick, so I ordered the smothered pork chops, with steamed broccoli and asparagus. Man, was it good. Those asparagus were popped down over an open flame and roasted, and even though very simple and basic, some of the best asparagus I've had at a restaurant ever. My whole trip was very enjoyable, and it looks like I'll be here in Sioux City for a few more days at least, so I will probably poke my head in there, this weekend! I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND YOU TRY THIS PLACE. I eat all over the country, from fine dining, to little holes in the wall in the deep south. This right here is a sure bet! ***DISCLAIMER*** This pure, uncut, honest review is federally protected under Federal Law by way of Bill #EO14149. Well there is no better place to go to for that hospitality and local business owned operation than Kate's! I am planning to go back for a second trip this week and I want to ask for Kate's signature food to be able to give a review on some of their favorites. But just on first approach, it is in the most wonderful corridor in Sioux City it has that 1950s hometown feel to it. Inside the restaurant it is a cozy environment that is so welcoming to its patrons. It is clean, well decorated and inviting. Please note this is a cash or check only operation so no credit cards!

It was one old lady working there who i assumed is the owner and no customers besides me and my dad, she was very nice but the way she looked at us when we walked in was as though she was saying in her head "are you sure you want to eat here?" which was my first red flag, not to mention the fact that the place was a total ghost town and didnt smell like there had been food cooked there on a regular basis in a long time. the restaurant had a very grandmas house type ambiance and many antiques on display which was nice but the food was certainly not made with love as it would be at grandmas house, in fact all the food was frozen and microwaved. Never once while i was waiting for my food did i hear the sound of frying or even smell anything cooking, all i could hear was the microwave beeping and the door opening and closing many times which was definitely another red flag. My suspicions were confirmed when the burger i got came to the table and the bun was store bought, the patty i could tell was frozen and had a weird flavor to it, the lettuce and onions tasted unwashed, and even the fries were microwaved and tasted freezer burnt. it also came with a packet of mustard and a packet of mayo like as if it was school lunch. My dad ordered the biscuits and gravy and he said the gravy was flavorless and the sausage was rubbery. We both got coffee and the coffee didnt have any flavor at all. At our table there were various old photos that told a sad story of what looked to be an establishment that was once booming in its hay day but now the passion has been lost. i hate to make this review because i feel bad for the owner but people deserve the truth and the truth is that i paid full price for an inedible meal and no one else should have to be misled by the good reviews for this place like i was. i couldve just gone to culvers and gotten a good burger for the same price as i paid for an inedible one.
