Adult Companion Care (ACC) provided seamless professional, reliable, loving, and personal home care…read moreservices for our family at a time when we needed support. Within one hour of a late night online request for help (for our 92 year old father) from various agencies, a personal response (rather than computer generated) came in from Jim Lindsey (President/CEO) who suggested connecting by the phone the following day; that conversation the next day was the second huge encouragement for us as we sensed genuine interest, empathy, concern and understanding of our situation. He set up an initial home visit assessment/evaluation, and this turned out to be a wonderful experience because there was no sense of feeling rushed or pressed. In addition, everything was clear and transparent. Afterwards, we had some weeks before our need for in-home care, but we could call ACC at any point before services to have additional questions answered or to update needs or changes. From speaking to various team members, it was clear that this company worked as a respectful and well-coordinated "family". Our close-knit family is very involved in the care of our 92-year-old father, who has a good number of chronic conditions and medical/health issues that need to be understood in order to care for him properly. Complete and careful body care/hygiene, good nutrition and prevention of illness or other conditions were important for us in our short-term need for services, but much more of our concern was our father's mental health and sense of feeling secure and understood by someone outside of the home. Our mother, 88, who did not herself need physical services, nonetheless, needed someone who could reassure her and who would be sensitive emotionally to both of them, in addition to doing things she could not do for my father that required special skills. From the first time we met Fatmata, the certified nursing assistant assigned by ACC, we were immediately impressed and reassured. She was a perfect fit for us, and my mother shared that it was like having one of her daughters around. We are four sisters and one brother who provide care for our parents. In other words, the caregiver needed to fill in for over a week and take care of a man who was under the observation and love of many family members. In ACC's complimentary hour of orientation/training, the daughter, who is a nurse, was impressed by Fatmata's manner as she was exceptionally intuitive, observant, and attentive with a high level of sensitivity and compassion. Although there was some initial adjustment for my father because he was missing his regular daily caregivers, after a couple of days, he was genuinely thanking Fatmata for her help. We are deeply grateful for Adult Companion Care and their dedication, personal care, and willingness to work with us to find the best support for our father so that he could remain comfortable and safe at home. With heartfelt thanks, the Duerbecks, Macks, Greenes, Olsens, and Swailes.

After working with Adventist, Visiting Angels, Synergy, and Right at Home, ACC Family was a breath…read moreof fresh air. The schedulers are incredibly patient, kind, and HONEST about what they can and can't do, which was such a big change. They also have some truly world class caregivers. There were some bad ones too, but in the end there were two people (Queen and Libby) who were simply incredible and were such a blessing to have caring for Mom. They have a relatively small pool of staff who can do lifting / transferring, but the ones they have are mostly good. They definitely tried to match our needs with their people, and as we provided feedback the matches got much better. They didn't have enough staff to provide full 24/7 care but worked with me as I filled the gaps with private folks. When they saw a snowstorm coming they would plan to have someone stay there for 2-3 days to prevent caregivers from not showing up due to bad road conditions. I have to subtract one star just for some of the bad caregiver experiences, and because billing turned out to be a bigger hassle with them than with other companies, but if I had to recommend a home care company in the DC area to someone else, it would without question be this one.

Danielle S was very nice, and I would be happy for her to come again. It sounds like she has good experience for the role. We had one incident where she took out 3 colors of play dough and was making shapes with the stamps......... ON THE CARPET. She didn't realize she was creating the marks (leaving play dough stuck in the carpet) and didn't realize it was a carpet (she said she thought it was a play mat). I think we all make mistakes. She apologized. She didn't blame my son. He has never done play dough anywhere on the floor or carpet, and never used more than one color. I read on the internet that one needs to wait for it to dry before trying to remove it. I contacted the company later that day and very politely asked "what are we going to do about it if it doesn't come off?" The admin lady blamed my child knowing nothing about the situation. She said the kid probably told her to do it... and more blaming things, which were completely not true. She said she would speak to a supervisor and get back to me. She, nor anyone did get back with me. That's very unprofessional with not covering for your employee's mistake, and getting back to me.

We found a neighbor to start a nanny share with and then dove head first into scouring the internet/care.com to find a nanny. What an overwhelming process! Then we found Philia and it just seemed too good to be a true - an organization that finds the nanny for you? That does all the pre-check work (background checks, interviews)? That handles all the administrative end of nannying (workers comp, insurance, payroll taxes)? How could it get better? Well it does. After a few emails with owner Kira, and then our initial in-person meeting, my husband and I were thrilled. Kira is passionate about her company and the services Philia offers and her response time & customer service are top notch. We have already met with and secured a nanny for our soon-to-be-arriving first child all thanks to Kira & Philia. Kira listens to your needs and wants and then she provides you with nannies that fit the bill. She takes SO MUCH of the time & stress out of nanny searching and we really couldn't be happier that we have started working with them for our childcare. Philia really, truly is DC's best kept secret right now!

If you love your loved ones and truly care about them, STAY AWAY AND BEWARE of its modus operandi. First of all, one of their modus operandi to RAISE THE HOURLY RATE, they tell you their caregivers (CG) are on double time (even if they are not) and that "the owner wishes to meet you half-way by charging you $50 per hour." If you wish one of their CGs to come back or if you say good things about a CG, the rate goes up! They said, I am horrendously "picky" when it comes to CGs. In truth, they should be embarrassed. For $36-$76 per hour, I expect a top notch service - all their CGs barely do nothing!!!! Synergy Arlington NEVER SCREEN their caregivers (CG). The CGs they sent were SMELLY (with the exception of one who came in the evening between 4PM-8PM, they all smell like SKUNKS), super late, unprofessional, unreliable, highly opinionated, and the majority had no clue on what they are doing. Synergy's schedulers, Filipina office manager, and owner are just as BAD. The Ghanaian office scheduler is very dismissive, highly insensitive, and lacks candor. For example, she wants you to work with her schedule instead of the other way around. In her inability to find a CG on the time slot I selected, she insisted that I accept her proposed schedule. Turns out, she was LYING. It was just a ploy, and I caught her red handed!!! She ended up going back to my original schedule because from my conversations with the CGs, my schedule was easy to fill as they prefer to either work their normal job or whatever they chose to do. Of course, this Ghanaian officer person never apologized. In a separate situation of her inability to carry out the spirit of the contract of the care service, she insisted on me accepting a male CG even if I preferred a female CG. Talk about unprofessionalism and allegedly being #1 in the care industry, this Ghanaian office queen is very needy and cannot get her acts together. There was not a day that she did not call or sent me text messages more than once. OMG. Such a work of Art with a capital "A." Yes, NONE of the officer personnel, including the owner use a professional email address. All of them use "gmail." None of the CG uses a uniform so you can easily identify them!!! When I raised my concerns to the office manager, nothing happened. When I reached out to the owner, instead of finding a solution, he offered to supposedly let me go as if I was unprepared to cut ties. That confirmed my suspicion that all the office personnel were working at the behest of the owner. Yes, I had been researching for weeks, however, at that time, I was being careful and reading the service agreement for legal actions. When I first read about Synergy, I thought they could be trusted, or they were that good because all the reviews were way up there. They are nowhere close to these reviews. In fact, all these reviews are FALSE!!!!! Perhaps, it is right to say, they wish they are this good. On the scale from one to 10? I rate them NEGATIVE 10 or 100. So, when the owner offered to clear me out of the contract, I never hesitated!!!! The following day, I had a different agency start right away, that quick and I have never been soooooooooooooooo happy. I wish I had found this agency instead of Synergy. Because of this bad experience, I do not think I will overcome my PTSD with this franchise. The fact that Synergy allows this operator to continue to exist, they also failed. They do not conduct due diligence. It is clear to say they are all about the money, not about care as they seem to advertise. I will NEVER reach out to Synergy even if it is the last franchise operation in the face of this earth. DO NOT BE A VICTIM. NEVER BELIEVE ALL THE SPARKLING REVIEWS. SYNERY IS TERRIBLY BAD-BAD-BAD.

After 2 weeks of family helping I decided to meet with Janet Barnett to go over what to expect if I employed Synergy. I did not need much or So I thought. Synergy assigned Nicole to me and she was so easy to have in the house. Her kind manner put me at ease. She initially reminded me of my meds. She did my laundry upstairs, picked up kitchen and continually made sure I kept hydrated. She also made simple meals. Her picking up the area I was in was a gift since I was frustrated I could not. After 21/2 weeks I was able to walk more and did not the extra help. I felt confident with Nicole and would recommend Synergy and Nicole without a doubt.
