Agua 301 is suffering from the COVID struggles. We were seated for our 1130 reservation, but waited 5-10 minutes for our server. We put in for our appetizer and it was another half hour for guac and ceviche. I know that the servers are at the mercy of the kitchen and I'm sure they were understaffed, but at least come check in with us, or bring some chips and salsa (or even just chips!) we were starving. The food wasn't quite as good as I remembered, but it was still decent. The guac was a generous amount (but a bit bland). The ceviche serving size was smaller than I remember, but per my review last time, they do a good job not being overly limey. Chips and plantain chips were both very good - fresh and crisp. My tacos were small, only 2, and the tinga was a tad dry. Black beans were fine and I ended up not eating my rice. I love Mexican cuisines so I'm always excited to try a New Mexican restaurant. Aqua 301 is a fairly new restaurant in the Capital Riverfront district. The location is nice as it's on the water. As such, you should definitely try to get outdoor seating. We sat inside due to availability. It doesn't have the most desirable ambiance. It has a very old feel. We tried the empanada de jaiba which is the Jumbo lump crabmeat empanada. It didn't taste great, it was very basic. We actually didn't even finish it. For tacos, we tried the shrimp mango, beef barbacoa and baja fish. They too, we're just okay and didn't boast of flavor. We also tried the lomo saltado. This wasn't bad, but had a very different twist. It didn't taste like the traditional dish and you'd be disappointed if you were really looking to get some great lomo saltado. It was very heavy on the sauce and the steak wasn't very tender. I also had a strawberry margarita which tasted like a virgin margarita. Beautiful location! Whether eating inside or outside, there is a lovely view of the waterfront. I came here during lunch time, as most of the other restaurants were closed until dinner time. The location was really clean and the receptionist, while in a boot, was very polite, accommodating, and made sure she checked in on me when my waitress didn't. I sat alone, ordered the flautas and empanadas and two margaritas. One margarita was the spicy watermelon and the other was plain. I felt both! They were made perfectly. The only problem I had was service time and attention. I ordered empanadas and a large group who came after me got their appetizers before I got anything. Then my drink came as they finished. I didn't appreciate that much. My waitress was also a little on the slower side, but she was extremely polite. I think she could've provided better attention. I've been here once before for HH and remembered how packed it was (literally couldn't even move near the bar area), so I was determined to come earlier this time to get a table to try the food. Arrived around 5pm on a Friday (Nats game for that night was canceled due to weather). I think because of the rain there was still plenty of seats empty (by 6-630pm it was completely packed though). Got seated/greeted on time (got to sit next to the window and had a nice but rainy view of the waterfront), and our server Sean was great and attentive throughout our whole time there. Started off with a Frozen Peach Sangria ($6) which was tasty (not too sour and a good amount of alcohol). We ordered the Beef Empanadas, Chicken Empanadas, Chicken Flautas, Hongos Tacos, Baja Fish Tacos, and I think my friend ordered the Carnitas Tacos. The Beef and Chicken Empanadas were my favorite 5/5 out of everything we ordered. It was cooked perfectly and the green sauce that comes on the plate was so good (try and ask for extra on the side to dip). If you have to choose I would get the Chicken one over the Beef though. The chicken was a lot more tasty/flavorful compared to the Beef one. I personally did not try the tacos, but out of all the taco's the consensus among my friends was that the Baja Fish Taco was the best (4.5/5). The only downside of the tacos (2 for $5) was that the corn tortilla is too thick for the amount of meat/toppings that come with the taco. Note that you can't mix the 2 tacos. You HAVE to order 2 of the same tacos for the 2 for $5 deal during Happy Hour. The only disappointing thing I tried was the Chicken Flautas. The waiter said that this like a taquito but longer (I had plenty of those in college) and expected a similar taste? It was a huge portion, 2 long "taquitos" with a lot of lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, and some tasty white sauce on top. However, the chicken was cold and the outside shell didn't taste fresh/not crunchy (like the tortilla was cooked a while before in oil and just served to me). I told my waiter I really did not like this dish and they were really accommodating and brought me the Chicken Empanadas (that turned out to be the best thing I ordered) instead. read more

I...want to give them more stars. I just...I don't know. They have all the right elements: The location is beautiful (right in front of Yards Park). They have outdoor seating for when the weather is nice. Not too far from Nats Park. (Parking can be an adventure...but that's DC anyway.) The service was ok both times I went. It's Mexican food which is always a good time, right? So I've only had tacos from them. The first time I was there (and my phone was dead so no check-in, no pictures - sad I know) I remember the tinga poblana tacos being amazing. When I went back recently I got the pork belly al pastor tacos. The pork belly was tougher/drier than I was expecting and maybe that distracted from the al pastor seasoning (which typically is on of my favorite blends of spices). The rice and beans that accompanied the tacos were good though. I also had a mango mojito during my last visit which...well there was definitely rum in it. But the mango part was off, and the mint flavor didn't mix well with it. Which was odd because I remember the drinks being good the first time I went. Anyway, this experience was sort of a mixed bag. I enjoy it here . . . it's my favorite! This is truly my neighborhood bar. Everyone knows my name . . . I can go on and on for days, but I rather let you read my blog about it. I come here for brunch, happy hour, Taco Tuesday, late night happy hour, lunch, dinner, and whenever I feel like it!! The food here is AH-MAZING and the service here is A-1! I love the Agua Nachos, Baja Fish Tacos, Pork Belly Tacos, Guacamole, Steak & Eggs, Shrimp Torta, etc. I can go on and on, but my absolute favorite is the Lomo Saltado. This dish is melt in your mouth good. I mean if they take this dish off the menu I will divorce them immediately (lol)!!!!! I love french fries, rice, and steak . . . combined the three with its spices, peppers and onions . . . every bite is enjoyable!! S/O to my guys Roger, Raphael, Javier and Sean for their awesome service every time I visit here. They always greet me with a smile, ask about my day, and make suggestions when they are offering new items on the menu. Taco Tuesday and Happy Hour is are my favorite times to visit and truthfully I could eat here everyday, but weekly will suffice. What a DISAPPOINTMENT. Got a table for 2, walk-in no problem. Sat down, placed our orders. Ordered 2 beers, appetizers, and dinner. 15 minutes pass, our server comes and asks us what we want to drink. We were like uhm, we ordered beer? Then I figured since the server forgot, I'd change my beer up. Beers came our 5 mins later and tasted fresh (they get one star for that). Nothing else from our order came out. We sat for an hour. Nobody came by us. No water. No chips. No updates on our food. :( our server completely forgot about us. She never gave our order to the kitchen. About an hour later, we said forget it, we'll just pay for the beers and go. Took forever to get the check (shoulda been free for making us miss our dinner!) so we wound up dropping a $20 bill on the table for our two beers. Keep the change. What a letdown!! I didn't love it, didn't hate it. I have been here twice and the food is fine, but nothing I would want to order again. The first time I came and got shrimp tacos which were ok, but lacking. Then I got the Chipotle Shrimp entree. The shrimp was really well seasoned and the sauce was good too, but the rice and sauce was a bit overkill. I got maybe 6 shrimp with a very very large portion of the rice and sauce. Since the sauce is a rich, cream sauce smothered over the rice, it weighed down the dish a bit too much. I have been to this place multiple times since it is very close to my home. The first thing you should know is that this is not a restaurant with typical Mexican food but rather Tex-Mex, the quality of the food is acceptable but it is not the best. They have a varied menu with quite reasonable prices. I have tried the fish tacos, the tortilla is a little dry and the fish a little fatty for my taste but it tastes good, I repeat: it is acceptable. I have also tried the "Sopa de Mariscos" quite good, with a lot of flavor, spicy and with a lot of seafood. Tortilla soup is very good too. I had never tried desserts in this place but today we decided to try the "churros" and they were a terrible disappointment, the consistency was terrible, the taste was confusing since I could not understand if they were stuffed or it was just that they had not been fried enough; they were freshly made something that I valued since in other places they overheat them but I did not like the taste and neither did the texture. It is a casual place, with acceptable food but not the most delicious, with good prices and with good attention most of the time. When the place is very crowded, the attention is quite poor, even the drinks can take a long time to arrive and also arrive watery. If you are in the area and you want to eat something with a reasonable price and average quality, this place is ok. read more

The food here is actually quite good and the ambiance is stellar. There is a wonderful outdoor seating area and a beautiful view of the water and the fountains nearby. Came here for lunch with some coworkers and we sat outside. The seating wasn't an issue. We ordered some drinks and the queso fundido to start. The queso was pretty solid. I was actually surprised at how good it was. I ordered a salmon salad and asked for the dressing on the side as well as a side of the chipotle aioli which sounded great! My salad came out and was missing the aioli, so I asked the busser to grab it for me. I waited for probably 25 minutes for the aioli to come out. The server brought it to me, acting surprised that I had asked for it because she didn't remember that I had asked for it in my original order. After we placed our entree order and then received them it was basically the last time we saw our actual server for a total of 45 minutes. She was attending to two other tables near ours but never came to our table or checked on how things were going. So, this was unusual and really disappointing. Quite frankly, she wasn't a good server. Barely seemed attentive and was more concerned with the table next to us since they sat outside after we arrived and didn't like dogs (this place is dog-friendly and we brought a dog). We were seated first so I'm not quite sure why she was more attentive to them. The food is good but the service was horrifically bad. We were disappointed in our visit to Agua 301 - the drinks and the food were subpar, but it was the service that was the most frustrating. I'm not sure if our guy was new or just inexperienced, but the restaurant wasn't busy. A few times during our visit, our server just sort of forgot about us. He forgot to come get our drink order when he said "I'll be right back" (He came 20 minutes later after we asked to hostess to find him), we never were given silverware or napkins after we asked for them (I had to find it myself), and our queso and margs took around 30 minutes to get. We only ordered the queso and didn't stay for dinner because we didn't want our order or table to be forgotten again. The margs are fine, albeit $9+, but for some reason my server decided I would like sangria in mine without me asking..."because of Game of Thrones"(?) I should have sent it back but it wasn't worth the hassle. The queso (See photos) was odd - like melted string cheese in a pool of its own grease. Make sure they bring you small plates to eat it because it's...drippy. We never got ours after asking twice and it got all over the table. Suffice to say, I won't be back. I was really hoping this could have been a nice place to go back when we're in the neighborhood, but I'll look elsewhere. Went here on Saturday for brunch with a friend. It was our first time. Outside seating was pretty busy and it was a hot summer day. We had a 1:45 appointment and were seated immediately. Our server Tia was okay. She extremely slow which was a bit frustrating considering they had a 2 hour limit and I chose the bottomless sangria. I was only refilled 3 times but the time I got to order the 4th one our time was over. So that was frustrating. My friend ordered wings as an appetizer and they took 20 minutes to come out. Be forewarned that the salsa and chips were very very spicy! We ordered the shrimp and carne asada tacos and split them. They do not allow you to mix and match during brunch. Love this family owned restaurant. Have been here many times and had Mother's Day dinner last night. Great outdoor space with view of the river and all the action in Yards Park. Service is consistently good. Last night took the younger grandkids and server offered to put in their order first so they wouldn't have to wait as long. We always get the Sangria, best anywhere, as well as the amazing chicken tortilla. Soup. I always end up ordering off the regular menu although the happy hour food menu is great too. I liked the guacamole, crab empanadas, and vege enchiladas. I took a friend from out of town here because he's a cocktail aficionado and we were in the area for an event. I'd never been to Agua 301, but my friends have told me about it and told me how much I'd love it and they were not wrong! I love the walk to get to Agua 301. It's around the corner from another restaurant and it just has a lovely view outside when you enter. When you walk in, it seems slightly exclusive because there's another door to walk through upon entrance. We just came in for some margaritas and light appetizers so we sat at the bar and were immediately serviced. I was torn between the Agua Margarita and Blood Orange Margarita. The bartender recommended the Agua and a slurped that thang up so fast! Oh, it was good! (Please note: don't slurp the margaritas fast. You will get tipsy in a hurry lol). Additionally, we ordered Guacamole de Jaiba (guacamole with Crab meat) and Empanada de Carne. Both were amazing, but the empanadassssssssssssss!!!! The meat was so well seasoned. The dough was cooked to perfection. Everything about my choices this night were perfect. I'm so glad we stopped in and I plan to be back soon. read more

My expectations were kind of low due to some reviews. Plus it's in a gentrified area and usually a lot of ethnic restaurants in those areas try to fit the least seasoned palette. Still came because of the large selection of unique options especially for brunch. Surprisingly it was really good. We got a great outdoor seat (which was great for my in-a-pandemic-my-boyfriend-forcing-me-outside-anxiety). We ordered/shared a lot of apps/tapas. The crab cake was good but the corn was super salty. Black been dip was good. Pescado ceviche was mid. Our main courses (salmon tacos and shrimp + grits) were pretty good. Staff and management were nice and attentive. Areas of Opportunity: The "bottomless" were in sitting pictures and the mimosas were hot and gross. They have issues with the Yelp reservation system and don't acknowledge it. read more

Yesterday was Margarita Monday...so of course we had to partake. Bar hopping!! The place was nice, ambiance was on point. The estaishments social distances measurements are in order. I like how they have plexiglass between the tables. I didn't like where my table was located because the servers kept coming up behind me to get straws etc., We ordered the paella which a very tasty and more than enough for 2 people plus doggy bag. Tried Agua 301 brunch the other day for the first time and the food was great! Their taco dishes come with some incredible rice and beans, I got the mango shrimp tacos which were really well seasoned and had. A yummy citrus aoli. I was a little disappointed their bottomless drinks end at 3pm, but they didn't mention it when I made the reservations. However, our waiter was awesome and brought us drinks quickly to make sure we still got our money's worth! Definitely check this Navy Yard location out if you get the chance. read more

This is a pretty nice spot at the Navy Yard in DC. I went for happy hour. They do have a special for taco Tuesday at $3 per taco. Their drinks are really good! I tend to stick with the frozen margaritas but their other mixed drinks are pretty good as well. This time I tried the Lomo saltado and they definitely put a unique spin on it with the bed of rice. The queso fundido was pretty good but you must eat it quickly as it becomes harder to eat as it gets colder. The tacos were pretty good and they have a variety of fillings. Even a spin on beets for the vegetarians! keep in mind you do need reservations, they tend to be busy. Also street parking is limited so just go with the mindset of paying for the parking lot. read more

Let me first start by saying, I am from out of town and was suggested this restaurant per a local who lives in the DMV area. I looked at the menu and saw that it was Taco Tuesday so decided to give it a try. I was not impressed at all with the items I ordered. We started off by having margaritas which I definitely have had better ones in other places. The 'in-house made' sour was too sour and the overall quality of the margarita was poor. I did try the 'Swirl' on the menu and that was a little bit better. I had the fish tacos which were okay. The only way I could eat them was by taking the fish off and dipping it in the chipotle sauce. The wings were okay as well. A little dry, but eatable. I was really disappointed in this restaurant and the service. Our waitress paid no attention to us. We wanted more drinks and it took her forever to come. Now the ambiance of this place is A+. It is located on the waterfront in the Navy Yard and has both outdoor and indoor seating. I could come here for the views, but that's about it. Oh the one thing that I REALLY enjoyed from this restaurant was the Guac and chips! It was perfect, but then again it is hard to mess up guac! Stopped in for a quick drink for happy hour. Sat down and the bartender on duty Erica turned her back when I sat down and never greeted me for about 6 minutes. I asked her may I please order a drink and she rolled her eyes and walked out the restaurant. She was very rude and seemed to be in a very bad mood. The entire bar stated that she has been in a bad mood their entire time and that she even yelled at the other bartender on duty. This is my second time coming here for brunch. They gave a great bottomless mimosas prices. The food isn't to expensive. I was with a group of 6 and we made a reservation on a Sunday Morning. It gets very loud during brunch time with the music and all the people. They have a lot on the menu to choose from. I'm gluten free intolerant, they do have corn tortillas but that's it. I got the steak and eggs at first my steak was really dry so sent it back. The second time around was much better. I choose to do the bottomless mimosas but they also have bottomless sangria (brandy, red wine and fruit) or bottomless margaritas. It's an ok brunch but I prefer their happy hour. read more
