I've been to the restaurant several times, and after the SINGLE WORST DINING EXPERIENCE i'VE EVER HAD, I won't be returning. The previous visits had poor service, and lackluster food, but it keeps getting worse! --We waited without contact from waiter staff for a long time without even getting water. --We finally got water and chips, and were ignored again before agitating for attention --After ordering our food, we again waited over an hour, without even a visit from the wait staff. Then, one of our guests got her dish, which was supposed to have an egg sunny side up...and instead had a hard boiled one. After deciding to leave, since our food wasn't coming, the manager went and found our food, which was cold, and disgusting. The runny egg on other people's dishes had congealed, and the soft shell tacos I ordered had hardened. On top of that....the waiter we saw the most didn't know that "Huevos Rancheros" was "farm eggs," after multiple encounters. Go to Osteria Morini, or Bluejacket, the food is much better, and you'll actually get served. read more

Let me start with the good. Decent house margarita. Guac is usually good but sometimes varies. Great location. Lot of outdoor seating. Hosts are very friendly. Also have been pleasantly surprised by a lot of options on the menu, especially the tacos. However, the service sucks!!! The two stars is really referencing the service. We live in the Navy Yard area and do end up coming here often because we're suckers for margs and guac, BUT always somehow end up being frustrated with the lack of service. Last time we came here, our server was drunk and drinking with the party next to us. He only touched our table 4 times max the entire time we were sitting there. Tonight, it took us 10 minutes to get greeted once we were seated and our entrée came before our drinks. If your service were better we'd be here once a week. read more

Drink:Daniel suggest that they were in brunch and some of the drink were bottomless ,mimosas,margaritas,etc. My wife in recommendation from Daniel choose bottomless mimosas I was driving so I only have a glass of tempranillo, note my wife glass wife was never empty Daniel always refill her mimosas at will. Appetizers:the guacamoles excellent and fresh the chips and salsa was fresh too. Brunch:my wife have the pastor tacos she say they were excellent and fresh. In recommendation from our server I went with the steak and eggs great choice the steak was tender and juicy Dessert:we were full absolutely next visit. Ok ok 3 thing that I love about Saturday and Sunday is brunch,good services,and the bottomless item. At agua they have them all bonus baseball. From the moment we saw the menu of this restaurant we could not wait to try it. It is indeed a very promising even adventurous menu fro Washington. Our visit for dinner last Friday turned out to be quite a disappointment: brownish pureed salsa was without bite and much flavor, chips were strangely greasy and chewy, white fish ceviche was watery, with no bite or acidity, fish tough and cut up into smalish little squares of unpleasantly tasteless and chewy something. Other small plates were dull and barely eatable, especially some kind of flat bread with black fungus paste. Keep away from that! Tacos were OK, except fro fish, which was tasteless and almost unpleasant. My AL Pastor pork belly tacos were best but, it is hard to screw up deep fried pork fat. Chicken entree was competent and even fun, though a bit dry. We did not care for the entire experience and decided that we will not be back. However just by accident we returned for brunch on Sunday expecting nothing good and were very pleasantly surprised. My dish with eggs two way were was superb, and my my wife's chicken Ceaser's salad which was grilled, that is Romaine salad was grilled, was a real delight. So: I'd give two stars for dinner experience and 4 stars for brunch... Therefore it will be 3 stars. And, hey you Patric on Yelp's team who thinks that I "write terrible reviews," here is one that is not terrible, because it is a new developing restaurant to which I'll return and will give it a chance again as I can see that they are trying. Thought we'd take some out of town friends down to the waterfront to show off the spectacular views and made a reservation at Agua. Should have known when we showed up and the front was completely deserted that we were in for a rough night. Host tried to seat us at the bar and we explained that we had reservations and he sat us in an empty restaurant explaining that they were short-staffed. It was a beautiful day and the patio tables were full but inside was empty. We saw several waiters pass us by over and over and over. After 25 minutes of being ignored we left. I can understand being short staffed, but when you are serving walk-ins over a reservation something is very wrong. Went next to door to Osteria was served promptly and had a lovely evening. I think it would take a complimentary pitcher of margaritas to get me to try this place again. read more

Today I visited Agua to play trivial. When I arrived I noticed there was a new bartender, his name was Nelson. He was so entertaining. He kept me laughing,but then I learned he was just assisting the other bartender because it was getting busy. I did not enjoy my experience at all. I had to wait 20 minutes for salsa that I asked for when I first sat down. My order was wrong. I asked for grilled veggies inside my quesadilla and instead got raw jalapeños on the side and a few onions and peppers inside. Why would I grill some veggies inside and raw jalapeños on the side. The manager came over and tried to force the jalapeños on me after I said that's not what I ordered. Additionally, I watched the manager ignore my table on purpose. Stopped by Agua301 to have dinner before a Nationals game. I had I had Baja Fish Tacos and Empanada de Pollo. The Fish Tacos were outstanding. The fish was lightly battered and fried with chipolte dressing. The empanadas were very good, but I was hoping for a little more heat when enjoy empanadas. I love the location and ample outdoor seating but the food is hit or miss as is the service. Happy hour is offered in the bar area and part of the outdoor seating (available on a first come basis). Service however is typically slow (so much so we left the last time after only ordering one drink in 45 mins because our server was so far in the weeds; the restaurant was clearly understaffed). There have been improvements to the margaritas and salsa since they first opened. Pass on the guacamole. The tacos are delicious as are the plantains, yucca fries and tostones. There is a kids menu available. Brunch is also available in the weekends and the portion sizes do not disappoint. Just be forewarned if you are pressed for time. read more

I love this place! My favorite Mexican Restaurant. I came here for a birthday HH and was very satisfied. The bartender was on point and the service was immaculate. First off , HH is until 7 which gives me enough time to get there. The place and bathrooms were clean and spotless! *I can't stand a nasty and trashy bathroom *. The staff was friendly, courteous and efficient. The HH menu had a lot of different choices which I loved both drinks and food. We laughed, took pics and even ordered more than we could take. Happy Hour is great!! Fish tacos are great and the frozen lime margaritas are to die for.

This place is mediocre. It reminds me of a touristy restaurant where you want the food to be better than it is, but it's just not that great. And given the location, soon enough it may be a tourist spot, but right now it's not and it was pretty empty on a Saturday night. Overall, this place has a lost identity. It wants to be a great Mexican place (like oyamel) but the food is not good enough. The food is decent enough to be that Mexican place you go to after baseball games or one evening to stuff yourself, but they don't give you enough food for that or the right menu for that (they don't even have rice and beans!). I think they will make money on locals and after baseball games, but I would not go out of your way for this place. To start, we ordered guacamole which was fine but lacked spice, the mushroom flatbread which was good, cheese dip which was also good, and the empanadas which were tasty. My husband had the pulled steak tacos which were fine. I had the crab empanadas which were the highlight for the night and the calle salad, which had spots of saltiness or paprika (it wasn't mixed in) so it wasn't that pleasant although the fruit was fresh. I have dined at Aqua 301 several times. However, during this visit there was a noticeable decline in service and food. First of all our waitress was in training and left her shift without telling any of her colleagues, which meant it took us 35 minutes to get tapas. The salsa was thick and lacked flavor. My crab empanada was fine but the thick cheese sauce it was placed on, questionable. The fish and shrimp tacos okay. The best dish were the sweet plantains. I really hope management gets a handle on properly training there staff and the kitchen. It's a perfect location with potential which could easily become a bygone business. I know your clientele is young but many of your patrons are not, several who were complaining. Good luck !! read more

So if you're content with mediocre Mexican food, then this is a great spot! For me, it is a place to come and drink margaritas, eat some chips and salsa, and sit on the patio during good weather. Meh. I've experienced better. is the best way to describe Agua 301.. *The food was pretty good and if dining out was ONLY based on that this place would get a solid 4 stars. I was a little disappointed that I wasn't given a choice by our server of a flour or a corn tortilla. My tacos were served with a single corn tortilla, so the juices from the meat soaked through and made my taco a fork food instead of a finger food *The prices of everything was also extremely reasonable especially on the water in DC now onto the not so great *We were notified that it had just passed into 3pm so Happy Hour was starting, so one of my friends ordered the strawberry mojito (which was delicious). We found out only once the bill came that this was not included on HH. Would have been nice for the server to let us know *The service was INCREDIBLY slow. I think we were inside for about 10 minutes before we were even greeted. Our service outside was better, but we continued to order a 2nd drink once our first ones were served since we knew we wouldn't get our drink for quite some time *Inside was ridiculously loud. It was brunch so I understand that it will be a little noisy, but I couldn't even hear my friends across the table from me. We were able to request to move outside *The queso was weird - it was essentially solid cheese. It was extremely tasty, but not what was expected when ordered. Again a server would go a long way here to explain that "hey this isn't like a smooth queso you're used to but a melted cheese that you'll need to cut" *I had the weirdest experience with the hostess. I couldn't tell if she couldn't understand me, couldn't hear me, or was just incompetent, but when i checked in for our reservation i said we were 20 min early, so if we had to wait that was ok. she told me we could get drinks at the bar and they would let us know when they were ready for us. I said we would be outside so would they text us when our table was ready. She said that they didn't do that... I asked well how would we know when our table was ready and she said that they would call us ... ok... almost the same as texting but whatever. I walk outside just kind of confused when another hostess immediately comes out to get us. Again it was super confusing and just seemed like everyone was confused I will say that the servers were all very pleasant and it didn't seem like they were actively ignoring us more they just were completely overwhelmed. There was a bunch of big groups inside and i'm wondering if it wasn't staffed appropriately for all of those groups. Had brunch here and can report that the food was delicious. One person had the chicken dish which was delicious and my niece had the Huevos Rancheros. She loved it. I had a stomach issue and asked for a plain cheese omelette with a flower tortilla. It was perfectly prepared. AND 301 gets five big stars for customer service. I had a misunderstanding about my check. Manager Stephen Briggs solved the problem in a prompt, courteous way. He's the type of manager I'd employ if I owned a restaurant. read more

The table ordered a corn flat bread with mushrooms and cheese. Seemingly a theme of the night the only cheese available was Swiss. At a Mexican restaurant. The fried yucca was the highpoint of the night but even for that the sauce was not great. My mushroom tacos were just mushroom and feta cheese. All I can say for them is that they were not inedible. They also forgot a plate of empanadas though that may have been a good thing because they were truly awful. The food was way overpriced for the quality. Would not recommend going there again.
