I was in a bind and made my peace with paying the exorbitant price of 46k. Actually, it was 43k and then I was charged 3k for a drain that took them 20 minutes to install since they placed it in an existing ditch - The owner was in Vegas and just came up with a number without even checking the job. I was at the end of a long pool construction and needed a deck, took the hit. I was promised an experienced crew, grade A work, and they could start right away. Long story short, there were issues right away. But I'm going to focus on the major issue, not the stains, chips, poor finish, crazing, which are brushed aside by the owner. I wanted a keystone wall, but was assured that only a poured wall would look good with the new pool. Immediately it cracked. One big crack, 4 smaller ones. When I showed these images to Agundez his response was "I could try to patch them, but I think they are going to look worse if we try to do that." And I'm sure at some point, there would be the classic excuses - expansive soil and all concrete cracks. But these cracks showed up immediately. It's just bad luck and poor preparation. It is not expansive soil causing this. How about a refund to cover the cost of facing this with stone and a cap? So, I can only recommend you save some money and go elsewhere. I would only get a responses through text messages, they wanted me to go out and measure everything.... which I did reluctantly, and sent over to them but now wish I hadn't wasted my time because they never got back to me again. Called to setup a time for an estimate and ask some general questions about availability, pricing, etc. I explained that I knew what I needed for my project (how many yards of concrete, color additive, stamp style, etc.) and let them know I already have the area ready for concrete to be poured (have rebar laid, forms set by professionals, etc.) and asked how many finishers would be needed based upon the total square footage (I'd received multiple quotes already and the general consensus is 6 finishers are need). Most of the quotes I'd received were in the $6,000 range, which covers the cost of concrete (with color additive) for two full truck loads (which will cover roughly 1500 sq ft. of space), 6-7 finishers, stamp rental, and pump fee for big rock concrete. The quote I received from Agundez was $7,500 just for the labor. That doesn't cover the cost of the pump rental, stamp rental, or the concrete. ABSURD prices! I actually laughed out load and said "Yeah no thanks, that's insanely overpriced". The person on the other end seemed offended. Sorry, your prices are offensive. My suggestion - run away and shop around - you can find much better pricing with high quality work elsewhere! UPDATE - As a response to the owner's comment: While I appreciate you trying to save face by claiming to be "superior" in terms of the quality of your workmanship, your costs are far excessive to that of your competitors and customers who do not shop around are really losing in the end. Even if you had 10 finishers working the job (which is extremely excessive) your price would be $750 per finisher. This job requires 6 finishers max, which means you're charging me $1250 per finisher. The average price I've found in San DIego county is $350 per finisher, so you're more than triple (almost 4x) of what your competitors charge. The next highest price I'd found was $400 per finisher. This all leads to me believing that you're price gouging your customers. This job was not just about price, if I was after the cheapest job I would have chosen a different contractor for my job than who I did choose. This was about who I felt I could trust and who was ethical and fair. Your attitude and sense of entitlement when I called was clear by the way you spoke to me and the tone of your voice. This is why you lost this job, and why you will continue to do so if you continue with price gouging potential customers and having a bad attitude. read more

Came out to look at my job several months ago. I wanted an estimate so I could plan my budget. He says if I'm not ready to pour concrete now, there will be no quote now; call back when ready. So I call back recently, he says he is coming out to do some measuring, but doesn't show up. No phone call, no email, nothing. So I call back a week later; no answer so I leave a message . I say "Hey! Where's my quote?" Nothing. A WEEK LATER So I wrote the above review. Next day Matt calls and says he was having family problems (which we all go through) and wants another chance to bid. He shows up at the scheduled time, does some measuring, and gets me a quote in my email that same evening. Now we've got some customer service! They are professional, do fantastic work, and we couldn't be happier with the patio project Matt and his crew recently completed for us. That's the short version. We met with several contractors looking to have what was a neglected pile of dirt behind a retaining wall (garden area) transformed into a usable patio space for our home in Mission Beach. Prior to contacting Agundez concrete, other contractors showed up (still typically late) whenever they felt they had free time and provided estimates by basically eyeballing the space. When we had requested detailed plans of the project for our HOA other contractors balked or provided inadequate project details. When we contacted Matt, he showed up to our home on time, acted professionally, and really took the time to detail out our patio project. He provided great insights about how to get the most out of the patio project and make it look amazing. It's worth noting that our patio project provided several of its own logistical difficulties. However, Matt was always prepared to meet each obstacle and make sure everything happened quickly, on schedule, cleanly, and at all times professionally. They did a great job dealing with our HOA requirements, a general lack of parking in our neighborhood, coordinating with a sprinkler repair specialist, and anything that popped up as the project progressed. The Agundez concrete crew also deserve mention. Gerard and his guys always showed up each morning on time and worked their butts off! Nothing was ever left a mess, the project area was always kept neat and tidy, despite being a pit of dirt to start with. Everyone was always friendly, professional, and like I said they worked their butts off each day and did a fantastic job. Fast forward a couple weeks after our project completion and we are incredibly happy with the level of quality and attention to detail that Agundez Concrete put into our project. We have had neighbors and passers by stop just to tell us how great it looks. The stamping of the concrete gives the project a lot of awesome character and really elevates the appearance. He bid on a job for us once before and although he wasn't the cheapest, after seeing his crew at work I regret not using Agundez then as well. Recently had the concrete pad in my back yard removed and re-poured from Agundez Concrete. They did an amazing job. Left a message and received a call the next day. Matt worked with my busy schedule to come out and give me a quote on the work and although it was larger than he expected from my description he gave me a very good quote that was within my budget and we signed the contract the same day. The following day he started demolition and completed over 225 sq ft worth of demo and prep for the next days pour before I returned home from work. Matthew was the only contractor out of 6 attempts to actually promptly return my calls or emails, show up, provide a detailed quote, commit to a start and stop date and deliver(all other contractors came from yelp as well - 1 I have to excuse as they informed me that they did not service my area, a second responded back with a text telling me what it would basically cost?!? 1 I heard from after we made our decision, and 3 were ???) . Cannot say if he was the cheapest or most expensive, but he was reasonable for the work being done. I will say he was very professional and courteous throughout the entire process. The project net is: He delivered as committed. The same crew showed up promptly every day (not on and off like I have seen with other contractors). They worked hard with only limited breaks. They were very responsive to all our requests (and there were a few). As a result the job was done quickly and the finished product is great. They had to rebuild part of our large patio, remove concrete, match existing flagstone and grout from a something that was installed 10 years ago. They did it. In the end they power washed the patio area surrounding my replaced section, picked up all the remnants, and left the place looking clean (another thing I have not experienced with allot of contractors). read more

More than 20 years ago, Agundez Concrete did their first job for us--and then we had them do many more, over the next decade, when we owned our house. They did two sets of stairs along the back and side of our house (on a hillside), including a pad to support a deck off of an upstairs room. They tore out a pool deck that was sliding down the hillside, and installed a new one with underground ridges to help it stay in place. They poured a patio, a garden wall, and a patio bar and barbecue station. They built a concrete staircase down a 150' driveway. I've removed my previous rating on Matt based on the initial conversation I've had with him. Maybe he was having a bad day, but he hung up on me after a mis-understanding of my comment. He called multiple times, close to 10 calls and left messages to apologize and ask me to remove the review, so I did. But, I felt that he needs to be responsible for his clients more and people needs to know who they're dealing with. You can't hang up on potential clients based on certain comments that was mis-interpreted and been rude. That is very un-professional and I can't imagine if there was actual contract signed to do the work. It's o.k not to accept jobs or contracts, but it's something else to been just rude.
