We sorely needed new pavement for our front driveway and garage. It was all the original stuff from back when the property was built in the late 1970s. Powerhouse wasn't the first company we called, nor were they the cheapest -- but we got an immediate sense from the owner Jack when he did the initial walkthrough and bid that we would be in good hands if we went with them to replace both the driveway and garage flooring. I think it is the up-front and transparent manner in which Jack approaches his business. He let us know up front all potential pitfalls, gave us a wealth of information about types of concrete, and even told us up-front that our original choice of Pavers had the potential to cost us more in the long run. Well-informed, we decided to go with stamped concrete with rebar, and within a week the jackhammers were knocking all the old stuff out. His workers were friendly, efficient and finished in a week. We are extremely happy with the end result, the customer service rendered, and value we received for the product. Unlike a lot of companies, they actually answer the phone and/or respond very quickly to emails and voice messages. The main reason I went with PowerHouse Green Construction to roof my mom's house was because of my interactions with Bonnie (office) and Merrill (project manager). Both of them put me and my mom at ease. Complete trust. I didn't feel I had to be there for the work. They explain every step of the process. They also have a lot of integrity. We had a potential situation with the roof that could have needed extra work and of course would cost more. I was leaning towards just doing it to be on the safe side. They easily could have told me the work needed to be done. Not the case. They evaluated it and told me there was no need, which saved a lot of money. I would hire them for any job I needed done. This review is long overdue, but PHG is one of the best there is. We hired them to do a full home remodel. Not only did a ton of items needed updating, but they needed to fix several items that the previous owner had messed up. They were able to do it all: moving walls, bathroom remodels, electrical, painting, drywall, framing, you name it. Their specialist, Ray also has an attention to detail that was appreciated in taking care of all the little items. I spoke with his office manager, Angela, and she mentioned Jack would call me back to answer my questions - I told Jack upon his call that I was an investor (apparently investors have a bad name out there - also full disclosure I'm also a "family" run business) and the assumption was I didn't want quality work etc. His first comment out of his mouth in quite full arrogance "I'm in marketing and I don't need work" with the add on that unless I wanted to pay full 'retail' (which means exorbitant prices) he doesn't work with anyone in that capacity. So I replied with "since I guess you don't NEED work, I'll let you get on about your work' - I've been in Architecture for 20 years, and investing for 7 in Silicon Valley/San Jose/SF and this the first time I've been greeted with "I don't need work, I'm in marketing". I guess if you want to pay the highest prices and have extra money to burn I would suggest otherwise bypassing this company. Guess you can't judge a person by their reviews otherwise. Never a need for arrogance! EDIT- again arrogance. 'Scathing and malicious' review. these are posted so people can have an honest review of THEIR experience with the contractor/person on here. If you don't treat people with respect, (you made many assumptions on your comment about how I run my business - I also obviously wouldn't be in business if I didn't make money for the past 7 years) you don't get great reviews, it's a simple formula. I've run across many contractors who prefer not to work on a smaller budget and prefer to charge exorbitant fees but none have been rude to me like you have. I can't obviously speak to your quality of work but sorry I'm not changing my review. Maybe next time ANYONE calls you won't be so arrogant. Jack and his crew did and incredible job on a kitchen and bathroom remodel. They were very responsive from the outset and Jack and his staff were always quick to respond whenever we reached out. We had a small issue in the bathroom after the remodel was completed, but Jack remained responsive until the issue was fixed. Angela was my first point of contact and was completely receptive and communicative, helping me to set up the estimate appointment for the service that I needed. The day of the appointment, I was feeling anxious but was instantly put at ease when I received a courtesy call from Jack Davis introducing himself and letting me know he was on his way. When Jack arrived, he was wearing a mask and kept his distance for our comfort and safety. We were immediately impressed with Jack's expertise and professional demeanor. He was kind, respectful, and informative. He explained thoroughly and thoughtfully what our options were regarding repairs and replacement of a damaged concrete block wall that was over 70 years old. We had a small leak coming from one of our skylights, gave them a call and they very prompt with response, sent someone out for an estimate and then shortly after within like a day of that estimate get someone out to come fix. I had Powerhouse Green build me a one car garage from the ground up. Grade the ground, concrete slab, and full one car garage build. Great experience from start to finish. Jack the owner came and bid the project (I did already have plans and permits in hand). His quote was inline with what I had budgeted and was quoted from others but his reviews and confidence in doing the project sold me. The company does have a very nice portfolio. Once we agreed on everything Jen V. (Project manager) takes over and walks you through the project. She was our go to on any questions or concerns. Very prompt and got back with me on all text or calls. The build was done by Ernie Winfield and his crew and they nailed it. Spot on to plan and came in on price as quoted. My experience with PowerHouse Green Construction was wonderful. Jack came out to our house, which was built in 1947, and together we planned out the new replacement windows. There were 5 windows and two sliders, most were custom fit's. I just wanted to write a review about Powerhouse green construction La Mesa California. My aunt passed away May of 2016. I inherited a two bedroom condo in La Mesa California. My aunt was old and never put a pending into this condo nothing worked inside correctly. I started to look for contractors in the San Diego area. After getting a few estimates and talking with a few contractors I felt the most comfortable with Monty and Jack from Powerhouse green construction. I told Jack that I would like to get this project done ASAP. Jack said he would jump right on it with a 12 to 16 week completion time. Jack was really good with design and ideas like taking walls down to make more space. Bonnie handled all the ministrative work like collecting checks and scheduling start dates. The project manager Ernie is really talented with his hands. He's been doing construction work for over 30 years and he's a real Pro. I started to get confused with all the color picking and tile picking and what bathroom vanities to choose from. So Jack Broad and Kelley Walla a designer. Shoot really helped me picking out all the colors and everything came together. I live in New Jersey and we did everything over the internet through emails. When I finally got the San Diego and I open the front door I was amazed how everything was so beautiful. I was so happy with their work.
