Our kitchen flooded a few months ago. We hired a contractor who improperly measured our kitchen, ordered the wrong sized cabinets, stole our money, and we were stuck. For months. Less then a one. They did my backyard landscaping and doing a whole house remodel. Landscape was not permitted and retaining wall has to be redone due to no proper footings ( it's sitting on air ) and drainage against city code. Put in ( new construction ) windows without a permit. My stucco has to be completely redone- it's cracking, still has numerous large holes, and poorly done. These are just a few examples of his work. I'm terrified to have him do any more work. My home is in shambles. Read my whole letter before hiring him! He charges high prices and gives your job to the cheapest subcontractors he can find that in turn give you a cheap job. . Here is my letter to Freddi the owner and copy to the California State License Board who will resolve these issues: This is to inform you of the following problems: 1. You have asked my age and my marital status. Then you have repeatedly asked me if I want to sell my home to you. These are inappropriate questions in a business relationship. 2. You have threatened me , saying that if I make a CSLB claim against you, you will drag out the job indefinitely. 3. You have asked to get out of your contract rather then fixing anything. No offer, however, was made for compensation for these problems. 3. Poor workmanship You have said, since the first time that your workmanship on the landscape was discovered to not meet standards, that the work was adequate but then reversed your position and said you would correct your problems. To date, nothing has been done to correct the landscape or stucco despite their both being finished for months. 4. Permits I have found out that NO PERMIT was gotten for the landscape drainage or pavers which is against city code. The same applies for the new construction windows . There was NO PERMIT for new construction windows. When I first told you this you asked, "why are you making trouble? " Now you are saying that you are obtaining these permits. Please show me a copy of your application for any permits. You have admitted that you have not put together a plan to submit to the city for the landscape, so I doubt you have applied for the landscape permit. I presented to you an estimate by a legitimate landscape contractor to fix the block wall footings properly and fix the drainage under the pavers , but you dismissed it. You said you have not found a contractor to fix the landscape work. What you haven't found is one cheap enough to please you. I will present you with yet another landscape repair estimate by Monday. That gives you two to go forward with. They can apply for the permit and provide the plan for the work. 5. MAJOR DELAYS Examples : a. There was a 3 week delay after August 10 when the permit for the majority of the work was obtained. b. Now we are delayed as used insulation was put into my home and needs replacement. C. The sliding glass door has leaked , I asked your subcontractor to repair it but it needs to be water tested again. D. There was a delay due to your subcontractor needing to get insurance of over 1 week. 6. LACK OF SUPERVISION You are only doing the job of sending over subcontractors, no adequate Supervision of the job. I paid for a general contractor to provide supervision of his workers and subcontractors. This has not been done . For example A. *You allowed the retaining walls to be installed without proper footings. b. *You allowed pavers to be installed without adequate drainage per city reqiurements. C. *You allowed dirty and possibly moldy insulation to be installed D. You did not notice that the stucco had numerous cracks and holes after the stucco was fixed. Your project manager declared it finished with these problems. Same for the landscape and he demanded payment for both. It is me that is supervising your contractors I go to my home daily to critique And supervise your work as you should have done. read more

Wow. Just wow. From first contact to completion, Nissan and his amazing team at Coast Design & Build exceeded my expectations. These guys finished the job before I could get any of the five other roofing companies that I called to even give me a quote. We had a vague sense that our roof had issues. The house inspector pointed out a few wrinkles and such when we were buying. The epic rainstorm that pelted us a couple weeks before Christmas revealed those issues in excruciating detail. We had rain flowing into our house. Very sad. Nissan was here within hours. His team tarped us up to prevent more leaks while the rainy spell passed. As soon as the storms passed, they jumped on the job and completed it very promptly. Every team member was so professional and hard-working. They used very high quality materials. We decided to open up our kitchen and dining area. It had small confining rooms and a tiny kitchen. After consulting with Nissan we went with a very large quartz island. Three large walls were knocked down as well. I can't say enough about Nissan's professionalism and expertise. He came in the first night and had a vision and allowed us to give a lot of input as well. He has guided us through this entire project. His foreman for the project, Aamir, is just as professional. There has been someone or multiple people working every day and the job is moving along very quickly. The picture I posted is only 3/4 of the way through. I'll post another one when it's finished. I've had work done by other contractors before and after selling the job you never hear from the sales person again. Nissan isn't just a sales person he's got great creativity and has either been on the job or called every single day. He has responded to every comment or questions that I had. Coast Design & Build was our chosen contractor for a Solar Panel project and a new roof. We decided on the Stion (Made in USA) brand solar panels and a cooling asphalt shingles 50 year warranty roof. We have enjoyed a reduced electric bill which was an average of $400.00 per month to $150.00 per year. Huge savings. The Stion solar panels are very sleek looking and look like smooth black slate sheets on the roof. That being said, my wife came across Coast Design & Build searching angie's list. I gave Coast Design & Build a call and they were able to have a pleasant young man named Nissan come to my home in a few hours that very same day. I explained all my needs and what I wanted done and was able to receive a quote before he left. Nissan was my contact person and over saw all the work being performed. I had all new windows and sliding doors replaced by another company that required stucco repair as well as the entire house prepped and repainted. My wife and I were very impressed on the accuracy of the time lines that were given. We were pleased with all the work that was completed and decided to move forward on a bathroom remodel and other projects with Coast Design & Build. I bought a tiny condo that was one of 50 built in 1974. I got a decent price and decided I'd get my bathroom redone. I've never done anything like this before. The people at Coast went above and beyond. First, Nissan took me tile shopping. He helped me figure out what I wanted and needed. They had an incredible plumber dedicated to my job. It took longer than I expected because it was complicated arranging water shutoff and inspections. Just when it was nearly done, they hit an old pipe and water started gushing out. They really took care of me. I was put up in a good hotel for 6 nights. The company owner spent a day making sure all was ok. They replaced the vanity and some flooring which got damaged in the flood. I was very impressed by how it was handled. We reached out to Coast for a quote to install solar panels on our roof along with 4 other companies. The appointment process was easy and the representative Avi was prompt and friendly. Unfortunately, Avi was unable to answer most of our questions concerning the Solar panel products he was selling and provided incorrect answers (he later corrected himself) for other questions about the Solar panels. All other companies stated that 10 panels would meet our current needs and 13 panels would meet 160% of our needs to cover our future plans. Avi stated that 17 panels (we had him look LG and Panasonic panels like all the other companies) would be needed to meet our needs and recommended 21-22 panels to meet our future needs. Estimated cost over $36,000. We will not be using them for our Solar panel needs. read more

The company did a DGS landscape on my front yard. Eva, the sales rep is great on sales, great personality, beware. The company subcontracted everything and did minimum supervision. The project was super expensive, so I expected a lot more from them. They did not even put a stabilizer. So yes, the DGS may get washed away by the rain. And there is one area where we sink. We didn't deal or meet any body else from the company. My recommendation, get everything in writing, and get estimates from different contractors. I am dealing with a new contractor that would charge one third for the same work. A word of advice, Doyour homework before getting on a contract with this company. The financing they offer is also not that great, unless a bad credit history. I am glad I posted the above review because Freddie, the owner of the company took the matter on his hands and he ensured the final product met my expectations. He was accountable and apologized for a job not well done. I appreciate it GREATLY. I am actually considering to hire his company for addional renovations. read more

Roofing review. I came across Coast Energy Solutions (CES) at the San Diego Convention center along with two other roofing companies. I scheduled to have a quote done to by all 3. From the beginning CES stood out by being professional, courteous and on-time. They have amazing customer service. After receiving the bids, I decided to work with CES because they price matched and the professionalism. While there were some unexpected delays in the project d/t weather and some miscalculations all of the expected work got done. They do subcontract their roofers, but the roofing is professional and still warrantied for 50 years. They will email you a copy of the warranty. Some issues we encountered were the contractors breaking a skylight, which was promptly replaced w/o question. A push broom was taken by accident (we had the same kind) and it was also replaced. We did have a bit of a problem with nails and some roofing trash left in the yard, I was told afterward that they would have sent an additional clean-up crew to remove it, but we never considered that and cleaned up ourselves. So, recently we discovered a hole in the plywood roofing in our garage that was cut (we assume to install a vent), then covered with the regular plastic and shingles... but the hole was never covered. It's about 6" x 8". There was a delay in communication with the original onsite manager, however, once the concern was presented to the main office the repair was scheduled immediately. The technicians were professional and were able to fix it within an hour. Coast Energy is a small business with a lot to offer. They truly stand by their work and will correct any discrepancies that happen along the way. My suggestion would be to discuss your expectations clearly, so there are no surprises. Make sure you understand the contract coverage, don't assume. And lastly, if your onsite manager isn't getting back to you in a timely manner, call the main office. They will address the problem directly. read more

I would not recommend this outfit. Had them quote a roof project for my house. The representative insisted I must be present "for insurance purposes"; none of the other roofers required me to be present for the roof inspection. When "A" showed up, he walked around the yard for a minute (what a roof inspection - right?) , and then pulled up a google app that already had the size of the roof. I asked him if he's done and he'll email me the bid - like everyone else does. He say NO, I will write it on the spot! I knew I was had when he said that. He took out his contractors clipboard and starting writing the bid, slowly... As he was doing it, he told me what a difficult job it is because getting the shingles onto the roof requires a lift! Anyway "A" took his sweet time small talking me while he was writing his bid. Then came the best part. He started calculating the cost. This consisted of using finger counting and looking up at the sky. Then the magic total came out to $23,700 including taxes and all. A magic round number. I got three other bids. They were all half of "A's" bid. They seem like BS opportunists. Be careful and get multiple bids. read more

I recently had some major work done on my house. They seemed very nice at first, I had my house painted, 2 new redwood gates installed], new laminate flooring in the house, a patio and a roof. The eaves have 3 areas left unpainted, they didn't even leave any paint for touching up. The floors has bubbling issues which they blame on a cat peeing causing damage throughout the house. The redwood gates were cheap wood painted red. One of the workers broke both gates when climbing on them to paint, the gate still hasn't been painted, the posts split and were glued rather than replaced, the hardware for the gate was damaged and replaced shabily. When I contacted the company they said that they had been sold and wouldn't honor the work done. Not happy. Wouldn't use this company again read more
