Oh wow! So glad to have this establishment! I don't like what the "national bowl restaurant" supports so not giving them my money! This place is better, food looks fresh, they refill the line often so everything looks and tastes better. For the price I was extremely happy with the freshly made bowl I ordered. My items weren't plopped halfheartedly by a bored teenager. My guac completely filled my cup. (Compared to the other place). The staff was friendly and the facilities are clean. I understand their policy that delayed getting inside the bathroom. The area is full of unfortunate unhomed individuals. Therefore, to maintain a clean and healthy environment for customers, it has to be locked. I'm cautious about parking downtown, but I lucked up on a space right in front. Therefore, I didn't have to use their parking lot that's nearby. I was so happy with my first impulse visit, I will certainly return when I have time to review my options more. Saw this place on TikTok and decided to try it. Street parking is available but was very difficult to find an available parking spot. The staff were friendly and patient while we decided on our order. I ordered the 2 meat platter with chicken and steak, you can select the toppings that you want. Nice Mediterranean plus dinner. In chose the lamb roll with everything on it. The server was stellar and made both dishes from scratch. I wanted to try something new over lunch, so I popped into Ahki's. It bills itself as serving "New York street food." Upon considering the menu, it's definitely middle eastern cuisine with falafel, gyros, pitas and the like. I ordered the Falafel Plate and a Diet Coke. Beautifully tender and deliciously flavorful saffron rice nestled alongside a crisp, fresh salad of iceberg, onions, tomatoes, black olives and pepperoncini forms the base of the dish. Three massive falafel were on top, drizzled with a delicious ranch sauce. Everything was absolutely delicious! Recently moved down from Philly and was nostalgic for a gyro wrap. This hit the spot. Quick service from a friendly face. Portion sizes were good and the environment was as advertised. Tried this New York Style Street food spot and it was really good! They are located 20th street downtown which I was glad for another restaurant in this area. Of course you deal with parking downtown but I got lucky with a spot. Upon arrival it's an outside eating area which is always a plus. The food is served buffet style. I selected the platter with chicken. You have a choice of chicken, steak or lamb. Also your pick of salad items. The lady showed me the regular or large selection of platter but I didn't see the price difference listed so I went with regular. They had can or bottle drinks available. The Best!!! Bham's first (to my knowledge) New York style Mediterranean food....Man it was sooo good! It was extremely slow when I came in for lunch & the young lady serving me was so kind & very friendly I ordered the combo platter you can choose two proteins so I got steak & lamb both were fork tender next you add whatever toppings you like & they cover it in a white sauce (other sauces are available all housemade) I can't describe the taste you'd have to try it yourself they offer other menu items so I'll definitely be back you get a lot of good & it's worth every penny they also stay open later on the weekend like 2ish! I've been meaning to try this place for months. I'm vegetarian and sometimes it's hard to find places around town. I shouldn't have waited. The service was fast and friendly. The food was delicious! I had the falafel plate and it didn't disappoint - rice, salad (you pick what goes in), falafel, and pita on the side. I think I've found my new falafel lunch place. I will definitely visit again. If I could make one suggestion to the owner - add some sauteed mushrooms to the menu as toppings or that could be used in veggie pita sandwich. I came across this place while downtown Birmingham. Once I found parking I was able to enter this nice place. Once entering the set up is very nice and clean in the inside. Places to sit and eat. There were two ladies behind the counter who were very nice and helpful with the menu. I ended up getting the two meat platter with lamb and chicken. It came with pita bread as well. The food was really good. For it to be Mediterranean with a twist of New York style I must say it was tasty. Initially, I went inside, browsed the menu and then walked out, thinking I would get tacos instead, but I later decided that I needed to try something new, so I went back. I tried the small platter with chicken, and it was really good. Yesterday, I decided to run by and grab a combo platter of chicken and steak for dinner and it was even better the 2nd time around. I believe the food would be tasty even without the secret sauce but that sauce really sets it off so I got a little extra this time. I have no notes about Ahkis.
