Popped in for lunch on Wednesday for a slice with a salad lunch special. Today was not a disappointment. Great service. Nice folks. Got our salads pretty quick and started on those before our slice was brought. We had just the classic pepperoni and the wedge with the green goddess salad dressing. This has got to be my favorite salad right now. Its frightening to look at but this is good. Not sure what's in the dressing and I do not want to know. So this past weekend I went to Festa Italiana it was basically the Italian version of Taco Fest. While I did enjoy myself I left with a underwhelming feeling. To start off I will say Italian American Heritage Society of Birmingham, Alabama did a great job with making sure people stayed cool. Besides the food trucks everything was either under tents or under the bridge at Sloss Furnaces National Historic Landmark. They had free water stations as well as water to purchase. They even had a huge air blower out there keeping people cool. Everyone seemed to be having a great time. Seeing people actually do grape stomping and sauce contest were pretty cool too! Now here is where the food comes in. I was not able to try all the places I wanted to try due to extremely long lines. The 3 places I did try I will talk about now. First up Da Big Italian I ended up getting Da Vinnie and Da Big Italian. Da Vinnie was pretty good the sausage had decent flavor but that was about it. Nothing too crazy. Da Big Italian was extremely underseasoned and it mostly tasted like pickled banana peppers. It apparently had mozzarella cheese in it and I didn't even notice it. Huge let down. Da Vinnie 7/10 Da Big Italian 5/10 Next we have Sliced this was genuinely really good pizza. All the flavors were there like all systems go. I had been wanting to try this place for a long time and just never got to it. Like I have no notes whatsoever so I'm just gonna give my score of an 8.5/10. I will be back for more. Lastly Arnone's Italian Sausage. This was the biggest disappointment because I was super excited to try them. I ordered the Italian Sausage of course. It came with grilled onions and nothing else. Yall when I say this was the most blandist thing I have ever eaten. The sausage had no flavor at all the grilled onions were also flavorless like they used no salt, pepper, Worcester sauce, no nothing. Easy 1/10 I was extremely disappointed. All in all I enjoyed the event and if there is another one I'll be back to try the places I wasn't able to get too. I do not blame the company that put this together for any of the bad food. My poor review is specifically for the pizza that was delivered to my house today. I used to go to Slice all the time with friends and had a great time and enjoyed the pizza and beer selection. Times are different now, so I'm enjoying time at home with my kids and we're thankful there are many restaurants that offer delivery. This is a delivery that I'll never repeat. The Margherita pizza was so bad that I took a bite and spit it out immediately. I can't describe the sauce very well...and couldn't take another bite. I don't know if it was overkill with dried basil and poor quality canned tomato sauce, but it was awful. Maybe if the crust wasn't paper-thin and soggy and there was enough cheese, the sauce wouldn't have been the only thing I could taste. Anyone who's been to Slice can look at the pictures of the one I got and realize that it's not even close to what they serve. We ordered another pizza, and the bacon, onions, and pepperoncini were good, so we could eat that one. The crust was still lacking. I am NOT suggesting that this is what you would get at Slice. I am suggesting that you consider a different option for delivery pizza. Slice is more than Pizza! I love their salads and who knew that they had this brown butter pasta!??!! This pasta was unbelievably satisfying and it's an appetizer! I must say , I'm not usually one to order pasta , but I was absolutely impressed with the flavor as well as the presentation of this spectacular dish. You could really taste the freshness of the ingredients and I loved how well all the flavors worked together to make up such a appealing appetizer at such a reasonable price point. After all this time, I finally got around to coming here. I didn't realize it was right beside one of my other favorite restaurants, Moe's BBQ. Great things must come in pairs. We decided to come in for lunch one day. We got a lunch special to start with, which came with their 'Perfect Pepperoni' pizza slices and a salad. The salad was HUGE. The pizza was a good size too. I can see how these would easily fill you up! We also wanted to try their cauliflower crust pizza while we were here. We are trying to do the keto diet, and knew we had to try this out - Bonus, it is actually $3 cheaper to get this crust than their normal! We ordered a BBQ pizza with this crust and it tasted great. The building is a charming older house converted into a restaurant with a pretty indoor dining area and covered deck area. Parking is free and ample. Turnip greens, black eyed peas, conecuh sausage, ham, cheese, even the crust stood out on its own. Nothing overwhelmed or competed with the taste. Others chose the Wedge, with bacon drippings. Beautiful presentation! Dessert was a huge calzone S'mores filled with marshmallows, graham crackers, and chocolate. Oh. My. Goodness!
