My dog Monty was having generalized weakness and confusion. Dr Elliott did an exam, blood work and an X-ray. Within 24 hours, Monty was given emergency surgery to remove a very large and bleeding spleen. Dr Elliott and Dr Housley did the surgery together. Monty is recovering nicely. They can't even be bothered to provide me with a neuter certificate that other vets provided me for a spay after I've waited 3 months requesting it. I was with them for 3 years. My poor little boy. I'm now questioning the quality of all the treatment and surgeries he's received here. Then there's my poor little girl who got lied to about her bloodwork so they could try to coup money. And that was after they sold me their old stock of medicine that may not have worked - it was so hard my dogs hated even eating it, and we switched back after finishing. Please don't use them for your puppies if you go through animal kingdom - you won't get the same treatment you should have gotten elsewhere. I can't believe I was recommending them to people less than a year ago. I made an appointment here because they were contracted with the place ai purchased a dog from. They take a $50 deposit to hold your appointment that is "refundable if the appointment is canceled at least 24 hours in advance". I called 30 minutes after I booked my appointment, and a FULL WEEK before the appointment and they still haven't refunded my deposit. I have called 4 separate times and each time I'm told they'll "put a note in to the dr for approval" This is insane. This was one of the worst vets I've ever been to! MONEY HUNGRY like you can't believe and heavy on the SCARE TACTICS! I came here out of desperation, as I had just adopted a sick pup from MCACC and couldn't get in with my regular vet until the next day. I also had a free exam, and it was the only vet that could see me same day and within the hour (should have been my first red flag). My dog had a cough, and Dr. Elliot wrote up an estimate for nearly $1,400 for 3 chest x-ray views and two specialized blood tests (Arizona panel and Respiratory panel). Little did she know, I am very experienced with caring for special needs pets, as well as the costs of these procedures, and her prices were CRIMINAL. My dog had already been seen by emergency earlier that day, but unfortunately had gotten worse since her visit. When I mentioned what I was told by emergency, Dr. Elliot was extremely arrogant and then became condescending towards me saying things like "do you understand what I'm saying, or are you just going to go ask another vet and question me the way you did this one?" After declining the bloodwork which I wanted to have done the next day with my regular vet, and electing to only have the X-rays done, she performed the X-rays and came back in and said "your dog has a very ugly little chest" and then proceeded to tell me that she has an enlarged heart, heart disease, possible heart-worm, and a serious respiratory issue that could be cancer. I started to cry, as I had just lost my almost 15 year old chihuahua and had adopted this new (also senior) dog in her place. Dr. Elliot's response was "didn't mean to make ya cry". I then paid $515 for 3 chest X-rays, which included $60 for amoxicillin - an antibiotic I regularly purchase for our golden retriever for under $20. Dr. Elliot also mentioned on her way out that if I changed my mind about the bloodwork that they work with various labs and could get me a discount. Why wasn't the discount given to me 5 minutes prior when I was quoted nearly $1400???? The kicker was when she also mentioned that regardless of my dog's diagnosis, and life expectancy, that I should really pay for a dental if I want to prolong her life. What a distasteful and insensitive thing to say to someone in that moment. I immediately called my regular vet, who graciously reviewed the X-rays and told me Dr. Elliot was dead wrong to diagnose my dog with such serious illnesses with so little information, and to use scare tactics to try to get me to pay for all of the additional tests. DR ELLIOT IS THE WORST!!!! Dishonest and doesn't care about you or your pets!!! She's only out to get as much money as she possibly can from you!!! The ONLY redeeming thing about this practice was the sweet receptionist over the phone (who is out of state and doesn't even work in their office). If you need vet care, there are so many other vets in the area. PLEASE go elsewhere!!!! The reviews for this place speak for themselves and I'm kicking myself for not reading them before coming here!!!! Editing and adding to my review since I can't respond to Dr. Elliot's response: I'm sorry the truth hurts. EVERYTHING I said was true, and there are NUMEROUS other reviews from clients who have said the EXACT same things that I said about you and your terribly ran practice. I'll also have it known that the only bully in this situation is you. You take advantage of good owners, and sick pets, by creating unnecessary panic and using scare tactics with your egregious claims and diagnoses, so that we will spend unnecessary money at your office so that you can continue to keep your doors open, since you're clearly hurting for business. Not to mention you also charge 3-5x the amount for medications and procedures as other vets, again, because you aren't getting any returning customers and are trying to bank off of anyone that you can get to walk through your doors. Such a gross and dishonest way to do business in any field, but especially in the veterinary field where you're dealing with people's beloved animals, and the loving owners who just want to take care of them. Preface: my normal vet wasn't able to see my cat for two weeks and told me to go to another place so she didn't get worse, so I came here. I have not been able to stop thinking about my experience. The vet was extremely condescending, made me feel like a bad mom for bringing in my sick pet to get treated. My cat has never been handled so aggressively, and never will be again. Before the end of the exam I was asked to leave the room and I did not have access to my pet until after payment, it felt like my cat was being held hostage from me. I've been with ACVH for about 2 yrs. I've exclusively trusted them with the care of my two pups. Quality of care used to be so much better when working with Dr. Housley but my experience has taken quite the downturn with Dr. Elliot. I'm here to corroborate the negative comments on Dr. Elliot. In my interactions, I feel Dr. Elliot comes across as quite fear-mongering and condescending. She's made passive aggressive remarks to my dog in my presence... I care a lot for my dogs and so putting me down when I've come in for help is gross behavior. In the past, she's also pushed a lot of expensive and unnecessary tests without much medical substantiation or affordable options. The final straw was last week: she diagnosed my dog with an ACL tear (dogs don't have ACLs btw) after observing her gait and performing a physical hind leg examination. During the leg exam, she shared that she might've made my dog's injury worse by manipulating the leg. I was astounded. She literally admitted to potentially exacerbating the injury nonchalantly with a straight-face. She then proceeded to explain it was a confirmed ACL tear which required no further testing to confirm, and that her treatment recommendation would be a $4750 surgery. When asked how bad the partial tear was, she was unable to provide insight. She explained that if I forgo surgery that my dog's other leg had a high likelihood of going out within the next year. Didn't discuss the potential downsides to the surgery at all. She also completely overlooked the fact that I disclosed my dog's leg was improving (she was gradually weight-bearing since sustaining the injury in the past week). At the end of the visit, Dr. Elliot offered me pain meds and the ability to schedule with a surgeon. If you messed up the exam, what makes you think I'd entrust my you with surgery? I'm glad I postponed until doing my research... after this experience, I'm seeking a second opinion and staying faaaaarrrr away from ACVH. read more

I was asked to step away from my dog while he was shaking on the table and then the vet grabbed his face and said "your mom can't help you now". That really made for an unpleasant pet visit. They didn't listen to my concerns. Pushing things that are completely unnecessary, and very rude about it . I get they need to make money but asking me if I want to add a series of extra items to my very specific appointment is unnecessary and annoying. I was recommended to have my dog neutered!! That was not the point of my visit and not one of my concerns. Following that they said I should have him microchipped. My dog is 14 years old. Then they recommend an unnecessary exploratory surgery for an old dog like mine when there are far better options. Paid 300+ dollars for information that I already knew. If they paid attention to the information that I had provided about the condition of my dog, unnecessary tests could have been avoided. They put him through unnecessary stress and anxiety. Been happy with the vets at ACVH. Front staff used to be friendly, but I was really put-off by a rude front-staff member who declined to accept a (properly packaged) fecal sample. I know this stuff isn't pleasant, but she insisted that it had been too long since our last appointment. I caught COVID and had to stay away for a few weeks. I had been told (via phone) to come in when I could. Didn't matter. The front-of-the-house role is important. I do not have access to the vets or care staff except through reception. I stop in Gila Bend, I was going to Mexico to the dentist at 6 am I stop in Gila Bend and she was wondering the Circle K parking lot. She was completely disoriented, I thought that she was blind as she was dumping into the cars that were there. A guy that was there gave her a burrito that he bought it for himself and she ate it, he thought that she was blind too. I could not let her there it is a death sentence until someone calls the animal control or killed by a car. I do not know how long she was there. I picked up her and put her in my car, and I did not go to Mexico, I cancel my appointment and come back home with her. I know that Gila Bend is a dumping ground for dogs. She is not blind at all, she was disoriented from the heat probably from the day before, she was desperately trying to get help for that reason she was approaching every car that was there. I gave her a bath and took her to this place to check for a microchip. First, they were upset with me because I open the door and enter the place that I have to call first. After the technician, Lily came out to check her for the microchip. She did not have one. Lily asked me twice if I a was financial solvent to keep her, I am Hispanic but not to be discriminated against a blank point when she asked the first time I told her my dog Mallie is a patient here as was my previous cat and Wendy was the person helping me there. Yes, I answer that I was able to keep her for a little while until finding her a new home. I also told Lily that I wanted to have a check-up on her and the vaccines to be done. We were preparing ourselves with what the doctor suggested but for some reasons my husband wanted an ultrasound to be done today( $400 later)and guess what??! Definitely a typical vet however they really do love all animals. The last few times we went in we were greeted by a hilarious bird named Max with a potty mouth. Your first visit they give you a little welcome care package with a coffee mug and are great with following up. Bentley got neutered last week and I was so nervous but they really did try to make us as comfortable as possible and let Bentley keep his Broncos blanket with him! Wow. What oh what can I say about this place? I really, really hope that they read this review. We have taken our almost 2 year old French Bulldog to this clinic since we got him at 12 weeks old. I was always happy with the customer service we received from the vet techs and office staff until recently. (But I've never liked the price. Oh well, healthy dogs = happy homes. Our Sherlock had Giardia when we first got him and we paid the outrageous prices and purchased all of the medication directly from Ahwatukee Commons Vet Hospital. It took 2 full treatments of medication and according to the lab results it cleared up. My husband and I work some pretty long hours at times so we would bring Sherlock to daycare a few days a week and at some point he got reinfected with Giardia. We paid all that money again, shelling out at times $500-$600 a visit for all of the appointments, perscriptions and fecal tests. We totally understand that Frenchies are expensive to own so we sucked it up and paid the prices. This happened yet again. More vet bills, we paid it and moved on. After a long discussion my husband and I decided to get a second dog to keep Sherlock company and pull him out of daycare because we couldn't figure out why this was happening. We ended up getting a little 8 week old French Bulldog female Shadow. We did what every good owner would do and brought her in for her first round of shots and requested the Giardia test. It came back positive. However, THIS time we were going to save some money and get the perscription through 1-800-PET-MEDS because it's a fraction of the cost. This is when it all went south. They are not willing to help in anyway. We couldn't even get them to call in the perscription on time it took call, after call, after call to FINALLY get them to get the perscription correct. We figured this was a one time problem and moved on. We followed all the steps and guess what? They tested positive again. At this point my husband requested a paper perscription so we could maybe have it filled at a store locally. Come to find out we couldn't so I had to return the perscription to the office in person so they could try again to fax it to Pet Meds. When I arrived at the office they told me to have a seat because the office manager Melissa wanted a word with me. She arrives a few minutes later and asks me to go into an exam room with her so we can discuss some things in private to which I agreed. I was flat out scolded. She told me that my husband was harassing her staff about these perscription faxes and that it needed to stop and basically that if we have issues we need to speak with her directly. I was furious with my husband! I was truly under the impression that he was giving them a hard time. He wasnt. He was demanding answers. He wanted to know why our pets are suffering because the staff can't get it together which I understand because I felt the same way. I leave, they fax in the perscription and all was said and done. Until they tested positive for a third time. Once again, same issue with the perscriptions so I called and requested to speak with Melissa and the staff member took my info and said she would call me BY 930am the next day. 930 came and went and about 430 came around and just as I was leaving work she called and of course I missed the call. By the time I got home it was too late and she left for the day. Today my husband called the office and she was at lunch. She did call after her lunch and it seems like they have the perscription all worked out but inquired about why we insist on going through pet meds. We explained to her that it is a cost thing and that they're a fraction of the price. She responded by saying that she understands what it's like to struggle with money because she went to college. Wait! Hold up! Who the crap said we are struggling?? We are NOT struggling, we just don't want to pay their inflated prices for meds. For those who scan to the bottom of the reviews for the outcome here it is: She went on to tell us that she had a conversation with Dr. Elliott and they have concluded that they are not able to fulfil our pets needs with the perscriptions so they would email us their medical records and we can find another vet. We were dumped by this useless vet all because we wanted to find a more affordable perscription company. Needless to say I had the records sent to my email within 10 minutes. They can't fax in a perscription but they sure as hell know how to attach a .pdf to an email in a hurry. P.s. I was going to wait for the records before I wrote this review. I had a 2nd visit at this place with a different vet. Wanted to charge me $300 for blood work before prescribing an allergy med my dog was prescribed elsewhere for 2 years with no bloodwork. Then the estimate to have his teeth cleaned was $1000-2000 which is ridiculous. These kinds of costs only deny pets care. Also my info was turned in to Maricopa County without my knowledge for a license after I updated his rabies vaccination. I am fine with getting the license but would like to be informed. I have a semi-feral cat I have brought into my home and this was our first trip to see Dr. Housley. My cat is not easy to handle being that she is not used to humans but Dr Housley was able to do her first workup. She is healthy but had a horrible abscess in her mouth. No sedation was given before life ending drugs were administered. No IV line was put into her vein. They had to stop half way through as the needle was too small. Firstly, I would like to say, if you walk on eggshells with these people, your going to have a good experience. I had been taking my cat here for almost a year. I had even called in and spoken to Courtney and on more then one occasion spoken to others in the office telling them how much I loved the service in this office. I've had a few small, inconsequential issues with this office that eventually where handled and resolved. However, the biggest issue I have is the total and complete disregard of good customer service skills on behalf of Dr. Elliot. My cat was scheduled to go in for a rear declaw, I came in the day before and filled out all the information and pre-op paper work and I had a lot of questions. The lady was very nice and said she would get back to me in the morning. The first thing in the morning I get a phone call from the same woman telling me that all of a sudden Dr. Elliot does not want to do the declaw on my cat. There was attitude in the conversation that was not appropriate. I requested an immediate call back from Dr. Elliot - which was promptly returned. She then accused me of writing a bad review for the office on the internet. I was completely appalled. This is the first review I have ever written -ANYONE- on the internet. I explained to her that I had the two small issues with the office ( other then the price of anything... its expensive there. ) and they had been resolved and since then I had not had an issue and was happy with the service. I became defensive and upset, demanding to know where she found this information. She said she would call me back and in the meantime we would post pone the surgery. I've never received a call back. Its been almost two weeks, and after spending almost every day calling and going down there TWICE to try and get this issue fixed, I get attitude from EVERY staff member, who tells me that they are giving her my messages. I am disappointed and completely appalled by the behavior of this office. So what is very clear to me is this: If you have a bad experience with this office you better just keep your mouth shut because they don't know anything about customer service and are NOT interested in fixing issues. They don't care. I was accused of something I had not done, and because of this I was treated less then acceptably. My suggestion to anyone looking at this vet office is to just take your pet to 1st Regional Animal Hospital, they're worth EVERY penny. read more

If you think the drive from Scottsdale to Ahwatukee is a bit of a hike, try it with a screaming cat in your passenger seat. Toby (my little feline friend) is not a road tripper. He hates his crate, hates the car, and apprently really hates the new Kanye West album because not even my favorite Chicago-born rapper could calm my furry friend down. So he growled and meowed and ran his face into the gate of his crate for the 25 minutes to Warner and 51st street. You would think I should spare myself the drama and find a new vet closer to home but I just cant. I've fallen in love with the staff at ACVH, as well as the facility. Everyone is so nice and greets both me and Toby by name, even when I come in alone to pick up food and hang out with the adoptable animals. Today we wrestled ourselves in and chatted it up with Tammy and Lauren before we met Heather in the exam room. Everyone was great, they even humor me and do the shots and everything in the back so I dont have to see Toby pout. (SHUT UP SO I LIKE CATS, SO WHAT) Dr. Elliot is fantastic, very knowledgeable and super loving to Toby. I'm not sure what average prices at a vet are these days but I didnt break the bank so I suppose thats good enough for me. Also very clean. Sucks to have to con my 4 legged love back into the crate and the car in 3 weeks to have his teeth cleaned, but at least I know once hes there hes in tender, loving hands. read more

This place did a pretty good job for veterinary services and I would recommend them. My dog had been consistently vomiting daily and losing weight rapidly. The doctor was great with my pet and understood my needs. They weren't able to diagnose what was making her ill, but it's understandable since all of her tests appeared normal and the dog can't exactly explain their symptoms to you. They said food allergies were their best guess since I had already tried dewormer and antibiotics with no luck so we tried switching the food to their recommended brand. That didn't seem to work either but she did slowly recover months later and is now fine. Yay! As for the boarding service they provide, I would not recommend. My previous boarder seems to have suddenly gone out of business so I decided on this place since it was a last minute trip and I knew they would have her information on file. It was $22 a day for boarding which seemed pretty reasonable to me. I found out when I got there to check her in that the dog is only let out of the kennel twice a day for feeding and to use the restroom unless you pay $7 per play session. That was so sad to me! I felt like I was leaving her in a prison. Most other places I have used either have a play area for the animals that they are left out in during business hours and the dog is only kenneled at night. So obviously I had to add some play sessions so I didn't feel like more of a monster than I already did leaving her there. I was leaving on a Friday evening for a short trip that I would return Saturday evening from. They told me I would only be charged for the half day Friday since I was dropping her off late afternoon, which was great. I would be arriving back home too late on Saturday so I hoped to pick her up Sunday morning, alas they are not open on Sundays and do not offer any pickup time so your pet is stuck in doggy jail for an additional day. Then when my husband picked her up first thing on Monday morning, we were charged for a half day for Monday as well even though I don't think she had not even been fed yet. So basically I was charged for 3 full days of boarding against my (and my poor little dog's) will. Oh and there is a mandatory flea/tick bath that they charge you for as well. My dog still hasn't forgiven me for that weekend. Good vet, definitely choose a different boarder. Your pet and wallet will thank you. read more

After visiting Ahwatukee Commons with my two dogs I can say that I am thoroughly pleased. I had actually called Ahwatukee Animal Hospital but they were booked for the weekend, so they recommended Ahwatukee Commons to board my puppy. Long story short, it was an affordable, nice experience. The price wasn't too bad (though I've used cheaper) and everyone was friendly enough. My *only* almost complaint was the woman behind the counter was in training, but it seemed as though her coworker was helping with every little thing. Her coworkers and the vet's assistance who took me back with my puppy seemed incredibly knowledgeable and affirmed my confidence in leaving my puppy in their hands for the weekend. Hopefully the training isn't too grueling or take much longer for the new hire! When I picked up my puppy he seemed no worse for wear (aside from a raw nose from the kennel bars). They also give you a "Kennel Camper Card", which is pretty cute, and includes some arbitrary information about your pup's stay. I'll definitely consider using their boarding or veterinary services in the future. read more
