The highlight for me was probably the set of four starter appetizers, they were flavourful, delicately prepared and perfect way to start the meal. I liked the slightly pickled dish with cucumbers the best. We also had sushi prepared with fresh seafood. The rice was probably my favorite compared to other places I've been. It was perfectly seasoned rice, warm and cooked to have just the right texture, not overcooked and not undercooked. The rice held up well when picked up by hand and complemented the flavours of the fish. Finished the meal with a matcha flavored pudding flan type dessert which had deep matcha flavours. If you're a fan of matcha, you'd probably enjoy it too. All in all, the meal was enjoyable, the torched tuna sushi was probably my favorite sushi of the set and my least favorite was the egg/eel, I was expecting a sweet egg at the end so it unexpected.

The restaurant is super quiet and they offer great quality of food with great service, and the price is expensive if you choose to order sukiyaki set (expect $80+ per person). You can choose between sushi sets at different price level or sukiyaki from the menu. This suits the need of our group given some people prefer sushi but some couldn't eat raw food. They also offer a couple of limited appetizer dishes such as tempuras and unagi don. If you booked the sukiyaki table and want to order sushi, you need to call them in advance to notify which sushi sets you want. We tried the sashimi and sushi courses at $55, which included miso soup, 5 pieces of sashimi, 8 pieces of sushi (squid, toros, salmon, scallop etc.), handroll and matcha or black sesame icecream at your choice. The sushi is smaller than average, suitable for small eaters. The course is totally worth the money. I love every piece of sashimi and my favourite sushi include the scallop and the squid. Everything was super fresh. The dessert was also having the perfect sweetness level for me. In addition, we also tried the sukiyaki for two ($110), which includes mushrooms, cabbages, great quality of Angus beef, yummy tofu and udon. Again, all the material was with great quality and super fresh. I especially liked the sweet sukiyaki soup, the tofu and the udon. We also ordered some shareable dishes including chawanmushi, unagi don and cod. Cod was cooked to perfect (soft and flavourful), and unagi don had quite decent portion. It would be better if the unagi could be softer from my personal opinion. Chawanmushi was mediocre. Overall, I strongly recommend this restaurant to fan of Japanese cuisine. It meets different people's needs by offering both cooked and raw food options, and the sushi set definitely has great value for money.

Their seating layout is also notable-- each individual table was enclosed, it gave a more cozy/private feel rather than loud & overstimulating despite dining during peak hour. If I could critique even just one thing, it'd be the dessert options, almond pudding and ice jelly were a bit disappointing to end the meal with cuz they weren't great in our opinion, but not problematic enough for me to dock a star. Sushi temperature was much too warm and the variety was pretty basic for the 2 person platter. Shrimp tempura was good tho - not too oily and not overcooked. The restaurant was extremely hot inside, the A/C was no where near the right temperature for how hot it's been this summer. There are only about 4 to 5 spots in the front, and while there are some smaller plaza parking lots nearby and another parking lot across the street, most of the spots are marked for whatever store they're in front of, so park at your own risk. Upon entering, there aren't that many tables either. There isn't a lot of room for bigger groups but they can merge some of the tables together. The biggest issue for us was definitely how long and uneven the wait for the food was. We ordered at 12:15 PM and got our salads about 10 minutes later, but after that, the food came out pretty sporadically. The first actual dish didn't come until 12:44 PM, which was the tempura from the two-person set. Parts of the other meals and the rest of the two-person set slowly came out between 12:46 and 12:49 PM. The 30-piece sashimi and sushi set didn't arrive until 1:04 PM, almost 50 minutes after we ordered, and the actual salmon teriyaki which was just a small salad, salmon teriyaki and steamed rice from the bento was the last thing to come out at 1:09 PM, about 54 minutes after ordering. By that point, we had already finished the entire two-person set and another person had finished their udon and sushi combo. It's just not ideal when you're eating with a group and some people haven't even gotten the main part of their meal while everyone else is already finished. It also didn't seem like it was only our table. The table in front of us had a pasta order that seemed to have been missed. We heard the server say it was about to be ready, and then heard someone from the kitchen respond with something along the lines of, "There's another order for it?" So I do think the timing and communication between the kitchen and servers is something they need to improve on. We were served our salads first, but didn't get our miso soups until we asked for them. They were planning to serve them with the meals, but since we had already been waiting so long, we ended up just asking if we could have them first. For food, I got the two-person lunch set for $52, which came with a large veggie udon, 9 pieces of sashimi, 6 pieces of sushi, an additional 6 pieces of a classic roll, and tempura. We chose the spicy scallop maki for our roll. The sushi and sashimi were good, and the tempura was good as well. The veggie udon was a little disappointing though. It had one bok choy, a few pieces of mushroom, and then was mostly just strands of onion. The spicy scallop maki was also just okay since I couldn't really taste much scallop. Price-wise, I do think it's a little on the higher side for what you get. The quality was good overall, but for the price I would've liked a little more, especially considering the wait. Between how difficult parking is and how long and unevenly the food came out, I'm not really in any hurry to return. I think the wait bothered me more because we were eating as a group, and by the time two people finally got their food, the rest of us were completely finished. If they can improve the timing of getting everyone's meals out somewhat together, it would make the experience a lot better. 5% off with cash.
