My 88 yo Dad had been definitely on a downturn healthwise for a couple weeks, and his assisted living nurse called me on a Tuesday afternoon to request me to sign off on hospice for him under the advice of his doctor. Hospice care is completely covered by insurance which is a huge relief, they provided support in his facility for which I was so grateful, and they take over the medications and things like oxygen and bathing. Everything they did was about my Dad's comfort. They discontinued his cocktail of many meds and provided support for pain only. They made sure he was comfortable. I met two social workers, a pastor, a nurse, and a CNA in the two and a half days my dad spent with them before he passed on Thursday night. Everyone was very kind and supportive without being annoying. I liked them. They also contacted the right funeral people after he died on a snowy night when I was also caring for my sick kid and they handled a couple other details for me. They offer all kinds of follow up services including some grief counseling and support. I have no complaints and I would use them again.

Unfortunately there is significant delay in initiating proper treatment, such as antibiotics, etc. In addition, treatment managers to not contact family members routinely nor do they give details of care, planning, testing, etc. prior to the group sit down. In some cases this can be a real challenge for the patient, who may need better communication due to hearing, visual limits etc. After release, we inquired about some dates of care via telephone x 3 to the care specialist, with No response. While at Village Rehab, my husband complained about the food, did not eat, and lost weight. So I tasted the "soup"....he was right. After returning home he has regained some weight and pursues regular meals, so it was not his illness.

I was able o get in touch with the sweetest, most comforting & knowledgeable on-call hospice nurse I've ever come across at 10:30pm! Her name, I think, was Sonia. As comforting as our conversation was it was also educational. She reassured me that picking a hospice is like buying a car. If you don't like it you move on to the next until you find one to suit your needs. She empowered me & encouraged me--SO wasn't expecting it to be such an uplifting call. I can tell with this short encounter that my grandfather will be in the hands of some amazing & smart angel nurses & loving care I doubt I could find anywhere else. My grandpa also is not English speaking & she told me they have some nurses available that do speak our language & are familiar with our culture. I wish she could be my personal nurse every day to speak encouraging things to me every day! We haven't even entered with their program & I love it it already. Before searching anywhere else for hospice--coming from an anxious & worried granddaughter-- please give Comfort Hospice a call first. They literally answer your call at ungodly hours like I called & they don't even mind.

The one who I read had openings was not my first choice, so I was led to believe that another doctor, whose online bio appealed to me, would be shown the form I filled out and I'd get a response. So, I never got a response. I called in June to remind her and was told "the doctor was on vacation" blah blah blah. She promised she would show the doctor my inquiry and I'd hear back either way. This didn't happen. That conversation was on June 5th and it is now over a month later. I give up on this practice. How can you be offering "concierge" medicine which is supposed to devote extra time to patients and completely ignore a potential new patient who is willing to jump in and pay the practice MONTHLY whether being seen or not? I was honestly terrified. He took the time to stop and speak calmly with me, reassuring me all would be fine. He took time. He showed compassion. Providers that truly express empathy and grace are a rare find any more and I'm quite lucky to have been referred to him.
