Also, I had a reservation with a group of girls and they had 2 of us going into a private dual room and we both needed to get naked in front of each other to get onto the tables basically. So I headed back for my second visit and had a completely different experience this time. I think it totally depends on the day/time you go. This time I went on Saturday afternoon at 3pm and it was packed. They say it supposed to be silent which is laughable. Large groups of people were literally yelling/laughing my entire visit. I could hear talking the entire self tour of the baths and much of it came from the actual staff by the desk area by the stairs. On two occasions, I had to just walk to the table/desk to pour my own water since about 3 employees were huddled together talking and completely ignored me. The massage in the middle of the bath tour is not exactly pleasant due to taking off and putting back on a wet suit. You don't know when the massage is going to be, they just "come and find you." It did feel good to go into the hot bath right after the massage though. I was told I'd be able to select the gender preference for my massage therapist and no where in the pre-checkin was I given that option and then of course was paired with the opposite gender I would've selected. I think this place is fun to try once, and really is a Chicago hidden gem, but now after two visits I'm all set. I would suggest trying to go during the week when maybe there is less people if you are looking for a serene experience and don't want to feel like you're at a hotel hot tub. read more

4 and a half stars really. This was a wonderful girls day out event. My friends and I enjoyed the pools and we each scheduled a massage to help give us some self-care/relaxation therapy. Our group consisted of 7 but they could only group us in 4 at the most and our start times were 30 minutes apart. We were also only alotted 2 hours to the pools which might seem like a lot, but I defintely could have used more time to linger and relax. The massage was wonderful. Very pleasant experience. I asked for medium to hard pressure and it ws great--wasn't too sore the next day. There are several kinds of pools--from the float pool (high saline so you float easily), the super hot pool, the ice cold one where you can plunge further down into a deeper section if you want, the indoor/outdoor pool (this was my favorite, it gets misty/foggy outsite and I imagine it's what Iceland outdoor pools are like). There's the jaccuzi like pool with very strong jets and a pool more like body temperature. The decor and atmosphere is very tranquil, and you are hushed if you start talking over a whisper. My only negative is that there aren't enough hooks for your robe, and I'm sure I ended up wearing someone else's robe at some point. Wish there was a better way to ensure you don't mix up robes. Locker room is clean. Plenty of amenities that you dont need to bring shampoo or soap. Hairdryers available as well. Mint Tea and cucumber water available in the pools area and in the waiting area. I visited at the end of January with a group of friends. I booked a massage and bath session and thought the experience was okay for the price. I was kind of grossed out at the lack of cleanliness in the locker room (visible mold on corners in the showers & a lot of hair & trash on the floor in the private changing room) but thought the massage was good and the spa was an overall fine experience. Two days later I started noticing small bumps on my chest, back, arms and stomach, but figured it was some kind of small reaction and it would subside. Three days later the bumps turned into a rash all over my upper body. I was EXTREMELY itchy along with experiencing headaches, nausea, sore throat, diarrhea and fatigue. I ended up going into urgent care & was told by the physician that I had contracted "hot tub folliculitis" caused by the bacteria Psedudomonas aeruginosa found in poorly maintained and unsanitary pools and spas. Absolutely DISGUSTING. I was prescribed antibiotics to clear the infection that was making me sick. I was shocked since Aire presents itself as a luxury spa and has the high price tag to match. I reached out to Aire and sent them photos of my rash along with doctors notes and was told a manager would get in touch with me. A week later... nothing. I reached out again and was told that my information was passed on to the manager and I should expect to hear back asap. Another week went by and nothing. I reached out again & finally was contact by the manager, Alexis Murray. She told me that "Aire's insurance team would reach out to me to discuss the incident." Another week went by & I was never contacted by the insurance team or Alexis. I reached out to her again and she replied saying, "After the revision of the documentation and details provided and the data collected by our maintenance team we are sorry to inform that there has not been any findings that can be related to the provided documentation. Thank you for visiting Aire." After weeks on end of trying to contact Aire and being blatantly ignored, I was essentially told they were going to do absolutely nothing. I never even received an apology for the slow response time or the health issues I was experiencing. By far the worst customer service I have ever dealt with. I gave Aire's management plenty of time to apologize and resolve the issue but after being ignored for weeks and them having absolutely no sympathy or care for me as a customer, I thought it was only right to warn others about the lack of cleanliness, health risks, and the absurd customer service that comes with booking at Aire. Clearly the health & safety of their customers is not a number one priority at Aire, so save yourself the hundreds of dollars and a trip to the hospital. read more

It was my 3rd visit and I'll keep coming back till the end of time, BUT throughout the years I've seen some serious decline in service. Bluntly, the staff needs a bit of training. That being said, I'd give Aire 5 stars for the ambience and consistently fantastic massages. I can't wait to be back again to immerse myself in the beautifully invigorating pools of different temperatures and steam rooms, to enjoy the decadent massage with hot towels and argan oil, all while listening to Aire's magnificent playlist ranging from buddhist chants, to Jocelyn Pook and Natacha Atlas. Now to the negatives. The unfortunate interaction started in the changing room, the attendant was inconsistent and rude (raising her voice at me at one point); and the host responsible for guiding us to our massage later on, seemed a bit annoyed she couldn't find me, while I watched her pass by me 5 times without checking. In any case, if I disregard these interactions, the building and the pools, which are the main reason for my love for this place, are absolutely dreamy, thoughtfully designed and executed. Enjoy strolling through the magical space decorated with amphorae and candles, sip on delicious tea or citrus water and then wash it all off with L'Occitane products in the shower before you return to face the reality. This was my first spa experience, and my friend and I went for a relaxing Sunday afternoon. We enjoyed the various pools, especially the float pool. Complimentary water/tea stations were everywhere in the candle lit maze of pools and massage rooms. We also enjoyed the lavender steam room, salt scrub alcove, and chilled juice after a 75 minute massage. There were plenty of attendants to answer questions. read more

The gift certificate gave me access to all the pools which were amazing. I went solo and I still felt very comfortable and super relaxed exploring the amenities on my own. I did an add on of a 60 minute massage which was totally worth it. My massage appointment was smack dab in the middle of my pool time. I love that they dry your swimsuit for you while you're getting a massage. My swimsuit was so nice and toasty afterwards and I went to enjoy more pool time. A very relaxing experience. My visit included a massage followed by two hours of soaking and steaming. The facility is extremely clean and all the staff are friendly and helpful. It seemed like they do a good job of regulating guests so it never felt super busy or crowded. The lavender steam room was amazing. No phones or cameras are allowed and I would not recommend trying to sneak your phone in, even though it may be possible because you are wearing robes. Here is why I say that we all want others to experience the beautiful spa in which we are experiencing as well, but they seem very on top of everything here. You're going to get caught and it's not worth it for a picture. The experience was beautiful, I felt so much peace and relaxation. My least favorite bath was the Floatorium because my eyes came out burning from the salt and honorable mention the ice baths. My favorite definitely the hottest bath and the one that led outside. It was a perfect day in Chicago so enjoying the beautiful breeze, the blue sky's in the secluded hot bath was absolutely everything. I've never been to a bath house before, but everything was explained so thoroughly that I had no moments of confusion or anxiety. This is definitely a splurge, but you don't come to a place like this to skimp. I'm not sure how restrictions are adjusting, but when I went a couple months ago, staff was respectful and wore masks and had strict covid preventative measures. The process from start to finish is very by the books. Everything is explained. The different pools are setting at different temperatures to relax your body but also awaken your body. It's rejuvenating!!! I don't pretend to know anything about zen, but a little R&R is great for your stress levels, especially for this year. 2020 relaxer. So, treat yourself. AIRE Ancient Baths has so much going for it. The hospitality is incredible - they take care of your every need. The setting is so serene and beautiful - it literally takes you away from the city. The massage was one of the best I've ever had. I also loved all the options they had for the baths. Going from the Caldarium (102 degrees) to the Frigidarium (50 degrees) was quite the experience! The indoor/outdoor bath was also very unique: the warm water under a waterfall combined with the cool brisk Chicago weather. MAJOR GRIPE: Noise levels. We come to an Ancient Bath to relax and escape the noise. AIRE even tells patrons to maintain silence throughout, or at the very least, talk quietly. Even on a weekday morning, there is noticeable noise. I can't imagine what it's like on the weekends. I blame the patrons who don't know how to handle themselves in such a setting, but I would hope AIRE pivots and actually enforces its quiet policy (maybe with a two-strike system). Wow. I think I had like a religious experience here! It is the most incredible thing ever in Chicago. I cannot wait to go to the other locations! We made appointment here on our last day of the trip before we headed back home. Everything was easy to booked and communication on both ends were clear. On the day of our arrivals, we found a side street parking not too far from our destination. They do take Covid cautions and everyone is wearing a mask when we went. We are booked for two hours to enjoyed the baths and also a 30 minutes massage. Everything was satisfying and love the salted bath. It was so relaxing and worth every penny. I gave this experience to my daughter for her Christmas gift and is why I'm so upset... The place is beautiful but from day one, I had issues. First, I called and made the reservation but it got cancelled through their system. When I never received a confirmation email, I called back and found out it was cancelled. They got the reservation re-entered. Then, the day before our visit, I received a pre-checkin through email. I filled it out and messaged my daughter to confirm she got her email - she hadn't. So I called Aire again only to find out that when it was re-entered, they only registered me. At this point they re-entered my daughter. The next day we go to the spa and when we were brought to the upper level for our massages, they led us into a couples massages space. We were shocked to find out they had us in the same room! We weren't offered any other arrangements so we either did the massages together, or we didn't get a massage. My daughter was very uncomfortable with this but had made arrangements to travel to Chicago for this experience so as awkward as it was, we did the couples massage. Being my daughter's xmas gift, I felt a call to management was warranted. It took three calls and 1.5 weeks for them to get back to me. After Dani, the manager, acknowledged that yes, she could see all these mistakes on our account history, I asked only for my daughter to receive some type of amends. Dani apologized but made it very clear that they would do nothing to make up for all of their mistakes. I felt it was terrible that they wouldn't offer my daughter a chance to have the gift I intended, and paid quite a bit for, the next time she traveled to Chicago. Warning - be careful. Breathtaking!!! One of the best experiences I've had in years far as enjoyment goes attending a spa/relaxation site. From booking a scheduled time slot and utilizing the website everything went accordingly. I had to reschedule my appointment due to a family emergency and the company did not hesitate to find me a new time slot instantly when contacted over the phone. I booked a escape for two which was phenomenal! I purchased a valet parking and that worked out great because their staff member was ready to exchange as soon as we arrived. We also did the pre-check in to where we would not waste any unnecessary time enjoy ourselves. Every staff member I came across was extremely polite and very helpful in regards to any questions i may have had. Locker rooms were very clean ( I worked in housekeeping for 5 years) and the gentleman assigned to locker room duties made sure to space customers apart due to Covid. They give you robes, towels, and a mandatory pair of slides that must be worn at all times. Once I was prepped for going downstairs we were guided throughout the facility and give a briefing on all the baths. There is a restroom which is unisex which makes it easier to not have to walk all the way back upstairs. They offer tea and water to stay hydrated and our packaged came with option of juice which happened to be really tasty ( I think pear, apple, grapefruit options with ginger). We had 45min massages which I felt was up to par, and the different baths were fantastic. I would definitely recommend this to anyone whose in need of a break and rejuvenation moment. read more

Went on a Saturday at 6pm and it was overall an amazing experience! I will start with the dressing room- Yes it is one giant locker room with only one private changing area which felt odd to be butt naked in front of many strangers but could have been worse I guess. Showers are side by side and very see through, not much privacy and no good place to put your towel or robe so you leave it outside of the shower. Only one attendant working the bathroom I seen others had their swimsuits dried and bagged for them but I wasn't asked as everyone's time seemed to end at the same time so it was an influx of people at once. The bath experience was 10000% worth it. I would consider returning for that experience alone. I went with my boyfriend but I think even with a friend it would be a good time. The ambiance was beautiful and relaxing. It was relatively busy but not too busy where you couldn't get your own private corner in any of the baths. The variety of different baths was wonderful and I think 90 minutes is a perfect amount of time to enjoy them. There was only one bathroom when you were down in the baths so prepare for that. We had a 30 min couples massage which was phenomenal. The massage room we were in was a glass room with these bead like tassels hanging down and I definitely felt like it could be a lot more private. I felt like people could see everything if they tried to look in. I did appreciate them drying my suit and slippers for after the massage. We took the Valentine's Day special and were greeted with a glass of champagne each. The baths are generally a relaxing experience; although, it was fairly crowded and some people were not whispering as we were asked to do. For just the baths, they charge $135/90 minutes. That's reasonable. I actually don't know if they would ask you to leave after 90 minutes. It is self paced so you're supposed to know time is up. The massage was ok. It's not a private area for couples massages. I mean there are just beaded "doors" so anyone walking by can easily see in. Additionally, the beads provide zero sound proof. So when people were done with their massage, they became very loud thanking the staff. Other than the couples massage, there is no real value to paying for couples packages. The baths are co-ed so you can be with your partner anyhow. I think I'd go again only for super special occasions. I did want to try the wine bath as that's not part of the regular baths so I didn't even see it. The staff are fine. They were not over the top nice, but also not mean. Be very careful with your belongings in the locker room. The baths and the massages were great, but my friend's wallet was stolen from her bag while she was changing. She was never more than 10 feet from it, but it was out of her line of sight while she went to the mirror for a few minutes. She started getting Chase alerts that someone was trying to use her cards while we were at dinner after leaving Aire. UPDATE: Originally this was a 4 star review because I figured it wasn't Aire's fault someone stole my friend's wallet. However, I feel like their customer service really mishandled this. 1. We called to let them know her wallet was "stolen" right away. The employee who picked up the phone said they'd "keep an eye out" for my friend's wallet that she "lost." As I told him, that likely wouldn't be very useful because it was clearly stolen and she was already getting messages her cards were being used. 2. Today I emailed them about it and got a reply that "We already informed our managers about this issue, and although this is the first notice we receive about any stolen goods in our location, we will stay alert for any new cases that may appear." It's obviously untrue that this is the first time something has been stolen from their locker room. I can see a review from a week ago that someone's $350 sandals went "missing" in the locker room & another from 2 months ago about stolen rings. The whole thing made us feel unsafe and was obviously incredibly stressful. We will not be returning to Aire and cannot recommend it to friends. read more

I'm not a swimmer, so swimming underneath the glass to get to the waterfall was funny. I bumped my head. The weather was about 20 degrees outside and it didn't even bother me. it felt so good!!! The best part of the experience was the space. It's beautiful inside. And another positive about this place is that there's really no other place in Chicago where you can have an upscale spa experience. Apparently the kings spa (I've not been but my friend who went with me has many times) has everything this place has and is 1 million times less expensive. But it also doesn't have the beautiful space. It's not even close to this space. That's what you're paying for here. I found it to be extremely overpriced for what it was. And you really don't get a whole lot of time in the baths. For what I paid it just seemed crazy how short my time was. You wouldn't have enough time to actually sit in a steam room for a proper amount of time and then get to try all of the baths and enjoy and relax. It's just not enough time. The dressing locker room area is pathetic. My gym has a nicer dressing area. After your spa experience you might want to go home and get ready if you're headed to dinner because the lighting in there is so terrible and it's just too crowded. So crowded. It's basically a room in a basement. The entire place is in a basement which is fine because it's more of a grotto experience. But the dressing area is just terrible. It's hard to see what you're doing as far as putting on make up, doing hair and getting dressed. It seems they're more interested in having some kind of shabby chic ambience in the locker room than having it be practical and comfortable. It was extremely humid in there also so it took me twice as long to blow dry my hair and I still didn't quite get it dry. The locker room staff is really nice. The staff out in the Spa area just seemed kind of distant. They were professional but I wouldn't say they were anything above and beyond as far as energy or sweetness. The entire place is staffed by women in their 20s. It kind of reminded me of a place where they just hire young, cheap labor. Both of us also got massages. Mine was great. He has been there awhile. My friend that I went with gets massages all of the time and she was highly unimpressed with her girl. I purposely wanted the guy to do my massage because I figured he would probably put more pressure on. Apparently I got the better one of the two! It was fine there. I think I probably wouldn't go back unless somebody else was paying for it. Shoot, for the price, I could fly round trip to Florida and go to the beach for the day and swim in salt water there. It was also difficult to book on their site. The website leaves something to be desired. I couldn't tell if I was charged or not charged. It took a lot more time to deal with the website and to try to call the place regarding the booking and any questions I had than I really felt I should have had to give. I can't get that time back. It should've taken me five minutes when the entire effort if I put everything together probably took 40 minutes of my life.. For how expensive it is, it's just bizarre to me that I had to call three different times, to actually finally get a person to answer the phone. The first time I called I was desperate to figure out if I had been charged on my credit card and if I had an appointment, and the phone literally rang for 20 minutes and nobody answered. And this was during operating hours. I mean really how hard is it to hire somebody to answer the phone and just deal with people calling to book or those of us who had website issues. Came here and at first it was lovely 25 min in and a male staff member in the bath area made inappropriate comments towards my brother and I we left early which is a shame we go to the Barcelona location often travelled to Chicago and was surprised. read more

I loved the idea of AIRE, but for the price, I didn't love the experience as I'd hope to. My massage was AWFUL, there's not enough words to describe how bad my massage was. I would never recommend a massage there. However, I enjoyed all the different baths, and the relaxation afterwards. I thought it was going to be more private (for the price) but there was many other couples/individuals there. The atmosphere was amazing with all the candles and the teas and water. The locker room was clean, the staff was friendly, and they had just about every amenity you could think of incase you forgot anything. I highly recommend drinking a lot of water, I felt dehydrated (1st timer) after spending a lot of time in the salt bath and salt exfoliating. Overall, I'd go again minus the massage. read more
