AIRE ancient baths - the place to go if you want to de-stress yourself. It is located in the west loop in Chicago. The whole vibe is european and as per their advertising that's how Roman's took bath. They have multiple hot water pools for thermal baths. One has extra salt to mimic Dead Sea so that you can float and was pretty relaxed. There is one outdoor with a waterfall and it's pretty cool that you can enjoy that even though it was 20s outside. They have multiple cold baths as well so you can do hydrotherapy as well. The feeling of going into cold and then to hot bath was thrilling. Overall we didn't realize how 90 mins passed by. Planning to go there again and highly recommend everyone to go there and treat themselves with relaxation. read more

We celebrated Valentine's Day. We did the couples massage Valentine's Day special. Almost $600ish in total. Pretty cool how they have so many pools with different temperature. There are also cold plunges and scented steam rooms. They provide you slippers and bath robe to walk around the bath house .The waterfall outside is a must to stand underneath. One couple used them and had one of them had a terrible massage experience and spoke up during the massage to let the person know that the pressure was too much. No adjustment was made, she could not wait for it to be over. The other couple did not use their certificate and now they claim they have no record of it. I have called 6 times and asked to speak to management in Chicago. In spite of my requests (and assurance that they would escalate) I have heard from no one. What a gorgeous little sanctuary in the middle of this beautiful city. Relaxation to the max, expect to feel like jelly when you're done. So many fun hot and cold pools, a mint steam room, salt floating pool, an outdoor waterfall massage pool, salt showers, and hot stone slabs for resting make for a smorgasbord of relaxing experiences plus you get a top notch massage to boot! What an experience! I entered Aire and was immediately greeted by soothing music and calming smells. They check your reservation as you enter and then seat you for signing forms. After that, they escort you into the changing rooms wherein an attendant assigns you a locker with a bathrobe, water shoes and a towel. Upon changing into your swimsuit, you have to climb down the stairs to be greeted by another attendant. This is the area where all the pools are. The attendant provides you with bands as per the service you have booked so that they can identify you. They then give you a tour of the whole area, explaining what each pools do, what temperature they are at and what order to go into the pools. The whole experience was magical. They ensure there are limited people at a time so that no pools are overcrowded. People just do their own thing and don't bother the others. There are a few water stations by the pools for you to hydrate yourself as you navigate through the area. Every pool has a place to hang your robes. There was also a sea salt exfoliation area and 2 steam rooms (Vaporiums). My 30 minute massage was great and my masseuse really knew what she was doing. My favorite part of the experience was going into the Caldarium pool (102 F) followed quickly by the Frigidarium (50 F). A truly unforgettable experience overall and I'd highly recommend. read more

I've never experienced anything like AIRE, and I'm so thrilled I finally got the chance to! A good friend gifted my husband and I a 90 minute (!!!) experience here to explore the different baths. The entrance is actually down an alley, which gave a nice exclusive vibe to it. They have valet parking for $18, or you can try to find street parking nearby. The lobby was the only place I was able to snag some photos because beyond that point no phones are permitted. With that being said, the lobby was STUNNING, luxurious, and relaxing. We waited for about 5 minutes before being sent to our respective changing rooms. The staff member working gave me a tour of the space and brought me to my locker where a robe and water shoes were waiting for me. Once entering the baths, I felt as though we were transported to another world. It was so serene and truly looked like something from a movie set! A staff member gave us a tour of the different baths and explained the benefits of each, along with the steam rooms. We started in the floatarium which was a salt water bath. This was a nice temperature and starting point to float around a bit. We then went to one of the hotter pools (around the temperature of a hot tub) that was indoor/outdoor. To get to the outdoor area with a waterfall, you swim under a ledge (or go through a door, but that's no fun!). A few of the baths had large jets, and one even had a heated stone to relax on when you aren't actually in the water. It was extremely quiet and relaxing throughout all the baths, and the staff does a great job and staggering arrival times so we were rarely sharing a bath with more than just a few other people (if any). One of my favorite spots ended up being the steam rooms (one infused with peppermint oil and the other lavender). I gave the plunge pools a go and made it 5 whole seconds before freezing my butt off! Still a fun experience. We had such a relaxing time here, and are already talking about making a trip back at some point! This is such a great gift if you are looking to give someone a unique experience. 90 minutes ended up being the perfect amount of time, too! read more

Took my mom here as a birthday present and both she and I really enjoyed the experience. The lobby area sets the vibe as you enter and you get shown to a locker room where you are able to switch into your bathing suit and store your items in a locker with a code. They give you shower shoes to wear throughout the baths and locker rooms which I appreciated being a bit of a germophobe. An attendant then shows you downstairs where they'll give you a quick tour of the different baths and steam rooms available. There were a variety of different baths ranging in temperature, with the more unique ones being the salt bath, one with an outdoor waterfall, and one with a cold plunge located next to it. None of the baths were as hot as I expected compared to some hot springs experiences in Asia but still overall a pleasant experience. Loved the option to go from cold to hot and I can see now why the cold plunges have become so popular. We did the ultimate bath package which included a face mask, body scrub, and wellness shot which was a nice way to break up the experience. 90 minutes was the perfect amount of time to enjoy the experience and we didn't feel rushed at all. After the baths, you have the chance to shower off in the locker room and they have a bathing suit machine you can use as well. While planing my trip to Chicago, I know my friends and I wanted to have a spa day. After reading many reviews, I decided to book Aire Ancient Baths for a unique experience. We each booked a massage package that was $300. Everything had to be paid in advance to book. The check-in experience was good. The attendants in the woman's locker room were amazing and made sure we were well taken care of. We had our massages first. My massage was the worst massage I've ever had in my life. The massage therapist basically rubbed me down with oil. She didn't apply any pressure. I told her to focus on my lower back and she barely touched my back. The staff didn't give us a tour, which made it very difficult to figure out what each pool was for. They seemed bothered when we asked questions. We also felt like they watched us a lot. We couldn't really enjoy because of this. While checking out, I was asked how my experience was. I informed them I wasn't happy with my massage. The lady basically told me okay and to have a seat while I wait on my friends. She didn't say sorry. Let me get a manger or anything, basically tough shit! Down to every grain of salt used in the floatarium pool they really think about every detail. From what you see, hear, taste, smell, and feel. It's encouraged to completely disconnect from the stressors of our digital world today and I HIGHLY recommend it. Leave the phone and lock it away in their complimentary locker. Apple watch. Headphones. Bad vibes. Don't be persuaded by how Instagramy this place is. Be truly present in the moment for the full experience. Also, if I would have read a review tip that I'm about to tell, definitely skip the tour if you're a first-timer because you are only given 90 minutes MAX and they FLY by. Unless you have scheduled a specific experience (massage etc.) then you'll have 180 minutes max. Instead, #PYP or plan your pools! My recommended order based on the tour tips given would be: #1 Start in the warm bath. It's set at body temp so it's a perfect way to start. #2 Next is the hot bath to raise your body temp. #3 Salt bath (aka floatarium) or aromatherapy steam room since your pores are WIDE OPEN for maximum absorption! #4 Ice bath or cold plunge to increase blood circulation. #5 Then your choice. You have the option of an indoor/outdoor bath that's adjusted depending on the season, salt exfoliation shower, or plop your tush on a heated marble slap and enjoy the complimentary mint tea! Don't drink too much so you don't have to pee and miss your experience (Rookie mistake by yours truly!) Every second counts! If you have an accurate internal clock, each step should last about 18 minutes. Tip: These pools are named with each suffix "arium" so don't be intimidated by their fancy terms. My husband knows I'm a massage addict and one of the things I wanted to do for my birthday was visit AIRE. He booked my appointment online including the valet. Booking is done solely on their website. AIRE offers a number of treatment options/packages. Full Disclosure: They are expensive. The basic entry fee starts at $90+ which is limited to baths only. If you choose to do the baths, plus add-ons, the pricing escalates. The basic option allows a total of 90 minutes in the baths. AIRE's motto is, "Time does not exist." The concept sounds great but when put into practice, it's very contradictory. Time does not exist because you will absolutely have no sense of time while you're here. There are no clocks to be found in the building. The only way AIRE helps you keep track of time is the usage of a portable gong. This so called "gong" sounds akin to a high pitched chime. The staff does walking rounds to ring this gong at the 45 minute mark. It is on you to figure out how many gongs have passed before you realize it's your pumpkin time. So time may not necessarily exist for them but as a paying customer, it sure does for you. Any overage in time spent over your prepaid package is your responsibility. Due to this, I had to ask the staff (who actually kept watches on hand) what time it was because I didn't want to be charged over the allotted time paid for. Dealing with this was stressful because the whole point of this experience was to relax and not knowing what time it was drove me nuts. We had paid for the AIRE essentials package which includes access to the baths and a 60 minute massage. My total stay allowed for 135 minutes. I know they're all about relaxing but relaxing in a place like this has its limits which is why I find their motto to be a paradox. I understand their need for a time restriction to control crowds but there has to be a more effective way of informing guests when their time is up. I would suggest giving out fitbit-esque bracelets buzzing at the last 20 minutes to indicate the end of your session. Juan was my masseuse that day and I was satisfied with my massage. His technique wasn't as strong as I prefer but he did manage to put me in a tranquil state. He put emphasis (love) on my neck and traps area where it was needed the most. I left relaxed and pleasantly drowsy from my massage. Even after my massage, I was told I still had 90 minutes left to use the thermal baths. The ambiance was the biggest draw for me. Out of the 7 pools, there were a few standout favorites. I especially enjoyed the Tepidarium, Caldarium, the big Whirpool, and Flotarium. There is one thing I wanted to mention about the Flotarium pool. Hold on to the Flotarium's perimeter while floating, otherwise you'll drift away and disturb/bump into your neighbors who are also trying to get their relaxation on. Within minutes of noticing this, I anchored myself to the ends of the pool to prevent such things from happening. If you need exfoliation, there is a salt station pit next to the open showers. If you wanted to dry off afterwards, the heated stone slabs at the front of the Tepidarium provide the perfect spot to lie about. As a whole, my massage was good. The ambiance is simply gorgeous but the high cost and their ineffective timing system is what brought this rating down. read more

I was a little on the fence about trying Aire Ancient Baths, but I'm so glad I did. I treated myself to the Thermal Baths and 45 minute massage (~$220 with gratuity) for my birthday and it was perfect from start to finish. The whole experience was well curated, and I left feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. Even though I went on a weekend, I didn't feel it was overly crowded - some pools I had to myself but when it was shared, I felt most of the other bathers were respectful and quiet. One thing I was hesitant about was doing the experience solo - I had read other reviews that mentioned a lot of couples and romance but it was a good mix of singles and couples during my visit, plus everyone was just doing their own thing so it didn't feel weird. I was also unsure about how the mask thing would work, but it was a non issue - you don't have to wear one in the baths and most people just hopped quickly between rooms. Overall, my favorite pool was definitely the floatarium but my favorite part was the massage. My therapist was pure magic and I'll 100% be requesting him again when (not if) I return! read more

This is the type of place you would want to come if you want to feel like you are on vacation. I've come to Aire two times during the pandemic and have enjoyed my experience each time.  Before coming, you book your reservation time online. It is cheaper to come during the week than on the weekend. Paid valet parking is available in front of the entrance. There is also some free and meter parking all around. Some of the free parking is residential permit parking only during certain times though.  When you walk in, you fill out some forms and then you are led to the locker room area. The locker room and showers inside it were very clean. The locker room attendants were attentive. You are currently required to wear your masks in almost every space except in the bath area.  The baths are located in the lower level of the building. There are dozens of candles placed all over the place. There are several different baths with varying temperatures. One of the baths even has a portion that is located outside. There are also cold plunge pools and saunas.  I've come solo on my birthday during both visits, but this would be a super romantic date with a partner as well. Coming here alone is nice if you just want to go at your own pace and zone out. The sultry atmosphere would make it a romantic setting for a date. read more

I visited at the end of January with a group of friends. I booked a massage and bath session and thought the experience was okay for the price. I was kind of grossed out at the lack of cleanliness in the locker room (visible mold on corners in the showers & a lot of hair & trash on the floor in the private changing room) but thought the massage was good and the spa was an overall fine experience. Two days later I started noticing small bumps on my chest, back, arms and stomach, but figured it was some kind of small reaction and it would subside. Three days later the bumps turned into a rash all over my upper body. I was EXTREMELY itchy along with experiencing headaches, nausea, sore throat, diarrhea and fatigue. I ended up going into urgent care & was told by the physician that I had contracted "hot tub folliculitis" caused by the bacteria Psedudomonas aeruginosa found in poorly maintained and unsanitary pools and spas. Absolutely DISGUSTING. I was prescribed antibiotics to clear the infection that was making me sick. I was shocked since Aire presents itself as a luxury spa and has the high price tag to match. I reached out to Aire and sent them photos of my rash along with doctors notes and was told a manager would get in touch with me. A week later... nothing. I reached out again and was told that my information was passed on to the manager and I should expect to hear back asap. Another week went by and nothing. I reached out again & finally was contact by the manager, Alexis Murray. She told me that "Aire's insurance team would reach out to me to discuss the incident." Another week went by & I was never contacted by the insurance team or Alexis. I reached out to her again and she replied saying, "After the revision of the documentation and details provided and the data collected by our maintenance team we are sorry to inform that there has not been any findings that can be related to the provided documentation. Thank you for visiting Aire." After weeks on end of trying to contact Aire and being blatantly ignored, I was essentially told they were going to do absolutely nothing. I never even received an apology for the slow response time or the health issues I was experiencing. By far the worst customer service I have ever dealt with. I gave Aire's management plenty of time to apologize and resolve the issue but after being ignored for weeks and them having absolutely no sympathy or care for me as a customer, I thought it was only right to warn others about the lack of cleanliness, health risks, and the absurd customer service that comes with booking at Aire. Clearly the health & safety of their customers is not a number one priority at Aire, so save yourself the hundreds of dollars and a trip to the hospital. read more

That's just when your touring with the host covering their amenities. You know your going to Love this place and how unfortunate you can't take pictures to show this off to your friends and family. Went to AIRE to relax and soooo happy I picked a weekday afternoon! It was nice being there when there were not very many other people floating in their amazing pools! The last time I went I think it was an evening or a weekend and it was much busier. Anyhow, if you are looking for a place to truly treat yourself and loose all concept of time for total relaxation, look no further! It can be a little tricky to find as the main entrance is in an alleyway, but I also think that lends itself nicely to the seclusion. From the moment you step foot inside, you'll feel like you disconnected from the modern day and teleported into a far away place of tranquility without ever leaving the city! The structure is architecturally quite interesting too. It's very likely an old historical manufacturing plant in the River West area with its exposed brick and dramatic beams. If you like all the historical vibe, you'll definitely be in awe here. The thermal baths have multiple pools of varying temperatures and a salt-water Flotarium akin to the Dead Sea. Definitely my personal fave:)) There's also steam rooms and private rooms to have massage treatments. You will have ample time to check them all out and I seriously suggest that you do! I'd definitely consider this experience on the highly splurgy side, although they do have promotions periodically to help. It is co-ed and swimsuits are an absolute MUST! It's very clean and no hanky-panky lol. Clientele is upscale, the staff is accommodating and they have a nice changing room with showers and lockers for personal items after. There's not much to not like but I wish there was a way to get new robes after a massage. Mine was wet from the float pools. Also my package was supposed to come with fresh juice but they acted like they knew nothing about it until I showed them the poster in the ladies changing area. This was a really cool experience! My sister treated ourselves to a visit in honor of our bdays and we're glad we did! There are a few different pools, our favorites were the salt bath, and going between the cold plunge and hot bath. We also loved laying on the heated marble. Only complaint was that they are supposed to ring a bell to let us know when we were halfway through and one at the end to let us know time was up. We heard the first bell and asked staff to confirm that was the first bell. Then the second bell never rang! We asked the staff and realized they never rang the second bell and we stayed 45 minutes late unknowingly and were extremely late to our family lunch. 4 and a half stars really. This was a wonderful girls day out event. My friends and I enjoyed the pools and we each scheduled a massage to help give us some self-care/relaxation therapy. Our group consisted of 7 but they could only group us in 4 at the most and our start times were 30 minutes apart. We were also only alotted 2 hours to the pools which might seem like a lot, but I defintely could have used more time to linger and relax. The massage was wonderful. Very pleasant experience. I asked for medium to hard pressure and it ws great--wasn't too sore the next day. There are several kinds of pools--from the float pool (high saline so you float easily), the super hot pool, the ice cold one where you can plunge further down into a deeper section if you want, the indoor/outdoor pool (this was my favorite, it gets misty/foggy outsite and I imagine it's what Iceland outdoor pools are like). There's the jaccuzi like pool with very strong jets and a pool more like body temperature. The decor and atmosphere is very tranquil, and you are hushed if you start talking over a whisper. My only negative is that there aren't enough hooks for your robe, and I'm sure I ended up wearing someone else's robe at some point. Wish there was a better way to ensure you don't mix up robes. Locker room is clean. Plenty of amenities that you dont need to bring shampoo or soap. Hairdryers available as well. Mint Tea and cucumber water available in the pools area and in the waiting area. Definitely worth the splurge. read more

Really lovely. Had been to one in Barcelona and am looking forward to trying to the one's closer to home. Well staffed and always someone to help at every step. I loved the outdoor bath- something they didn't have in Barcelona. Was laid out a little strangely and spent some time trying to figure out what some of the baths were that weren't labeled. What a decadent and utterly relaxing experience. I have a difficult time truly letting go and relaxing and post massage at Aire I felt incredibly rested and restored. I chose the Athlete Ritual, an incredible massage sandwiched between time in the pools. It was a wonderful way to visit for the first time. I had time to decompress before my massage and then time to stay in the moment after. The massage itself was a dream. It just steps from the pools so be aware that while secluded it's not all that private and I could hear the massage next door. That didn't detract from my experience. My booties and swimsuit were warmed during my massage and my masseuse was experienced and thoughtful. It was my 3rd visit and I'll keep coming back till the end of time, BUT throughout the years I've seen some serious decline in service. Bluntly, the staff needs a bit of training. That being said, I'd give Aire 5 stars for the ambience and consistently fantastic massages. I can't wait to be back again to immerse myself in the beautifully invigorating pools of different temperatures and steam rooms, to enjoy the decadent massage with hot towels and argan oil, all while listening to Aire's magnificent playlist ranging from buddhist chants, to Jocelyn Pook and Natacha Atlas. Now to the negatives. The unfortunate interaction started in the changing room, the attendant was inconsistent and rude (raising her voice at me at one point); and the host responsible for guiding us to our massage later on, seemed a bit annoyed she couldn't find me, while I watched her pass by me 5 times without checking. In any case, if I disregard these interactions, the building and the pools, which are the main reason for my love for this place, are absolutely dreamy, thoughtfully designed and executed. Enjoy strolling through the magical space decorated with amphorae and candles, sip on delicious tea or citrus water and then wash it all off with L'Occitane products in the shower before you return to face the reality. While some guests don't adhere to the silence/whisper policy, maybe Aire could implement a shushing system to bring some of the magical zen back. Shhhhhhhhhh (Lol) read more
