Decent but not what I'm used to when I indulge in a full service spa. Beautiful decor, awesome location, but lack of amenities. No pool, no steam room, no rain shower!!! Unheard of...especially when the treatment are priced similar to other high end spas. Therapist Ousha was efficient but I felt rushed. There was zero pampering involved. I woke up on my birthday not feeling so hot. Sinusitis, sore throat, shivering, eyes watering....that didn't look good. But I was lucky enough to wake up only 19 floors above a brand new spa and decided to take full advantage of it. Plus - it was my birthday, damn it!! I could indulge a little bit. Step 1: sip on really hot tea. Ahhhhh...that felt good....Earl Grey, you are my best friend in need. Never fail me. Step 2: order a "Rescue Me" bath treatment from the spa menu on display in the room. Sounded appropriate enough, right? Hand delivered to my door, my cute little basket was comprised of a delicious sugar scrub made of aromatic oils, essential oils for my bath water and detailed instructions. I passed on the "hand drawn bath" option ($10 more) because my lovely husband could handle the task just fine. Thanks sweetie! : ) Step 3: Bright Eyes treatment upon check out. That was lovely, and much needed by my little wells of tears. Four steps, a lot of attention to details, and a complimentary arm massage offered by my cute technician (whose great-grand mother was French. Ha!). I really noticed the difference when she was done - even though it was short-lived because of the stupid cold that has been dragging me down since. But I was pleased enough to come back. I came here last Friday to indulge in some relaxation with the current crush. This was my first visit to the Spa @ theWit. I have been to other spas around town and get massages about once or twice a year but am far from a regular at the spa. Current Crush was pretty much a massage newbie, so I thought the couples massage would be a good introduction. We both decided to go for the therapeutic massage, a version of a deep-tissue massage (50-minute option). There is an 80-minute option as well, for those looking to seriously decompress. Both of the massage therapists were competent and put us at ease. Relative to other spas (I think the Spa at the Dana Hotel is comparable) the Wit's Spa is slightly smaller, but in no way does this detract from the experience. The Whisper Lounge is enjoyable although the wicker chairs are a bit difficult to get into and out of. The woman at the front desk handling the booking and payments was so sweet, which made the experience that much more relaxing. I liked that nobody tried to push products at the end, although it would have been nice to get a little more instruction on aftercare (hydration, exercise, etc.). At one point I heard a car horn, which took me out of the tranquil experience, but I suppose that is to be expected at a spa in the heart of the city. The prices are in line with what one would expect for a nice spa in an urban setting. Overall a relaxing visit and a great way to kick off summer. read more

I was disappointed in my experience compared to what I paid to be here. I am a regular at the spa, and I can be a snob about it, but I was willing to try this one because it was close to where I was staying and I just wanted something to take my mind off of life for a bit. I did have a great massage (signature massage). My facial was disappointed. The technique was not relaxing and I just felt like that aesthetican's fingers were slopping around on my face. The Spa at the Wit sends out an email with their monthly specials, which always include a discount on nail services if you pick their color of the month. I thought I'd take them up on it this month. I could use a purple manicure. I need to shake these winter blues anyway, what better way to do that than with some springtime purples? Adriane was so pleasant I wanted to ask her out for a drink after my manicure. Seriously, it's strangely uncommon to find a manicurist who can make small talk and not get too personal. Well done, Adriane. On the other hand (no pun intended) she didn't do a great job of filing my nails. If her filing skills were better, I would have offered to buy her a drink. The prices aren't too crazy, for a nice spa they are fairly decent actually. Their other monthly specials, for massages and facials, etc., sound quite inviting. I might have to make a monthly trip to the Spa at the Wit for a manicure and pedicure with their color of the month. I figured my birthday was as good a time as any visit the spa. My back and neck were torn up. My knee was aching. I needed some magic jazz hands help. Dear sweet Jason is your magic jazz hands man at the Wit Spa! The signature massage was one of the best I've had in a long time -- a great combination of Swedish and hot stone that got all of my aches and kinks out. As I am a Leo woman and it was also my birthday, I quite appreciated the customized, queenly treatment. The personal greeting card in the lockers are lovely, and the robes are divine. People are complaining that the Whisper Lounge is "small"? How big does it have to be? It was more than roomy, private and tranquil enough for my tastes. And then there was Jason. Dear, sweet, magic jazz hands Jason. I am very glad that someone on Yelp recommended him by name. He lived up to the masseuse hype. I had some kind of a muscle pull in my knee that limited my range of motion. I don't know exactly what he did, but when I left I could actually completely bend my knee for the first time in 4 weeks. Magic jazz hands! I am super picky when it comes to when, where and how I spa, and The Wit passed my 3S test: Setting, Staff, Services. All met and/or exceeded my expectations. What's a perfect way to kick off Valentine's Day?....The Wit Signature massage. Upon walking into the hotel, you are greeted by the doorman (lovely gent) and the bellhop who so politely guided us to the elevator, waited for it to arrive and then wished us a lovely evening. I like the service already! Now for the spa.....right when you walk in, it feels peaceful. We were greeted promptly and only had to wait a few min for our robes and slippers to be put out. The locker room was small but clean and very calming. After undressing, you relax just for a bit in the Whisper room....there is water and tea and a few lounge chairs. Ausra was my masssage therapist. She was very professional and knew what she was doing. Ahhhh....relaxation! The rooms are dark and the music is peaceful. With the Signature massage, you choose the scent of the oil you want. Quite honestly, they all smelled lovely but I chose Refresh as I had a night on the town planned for later. Then you slip in between a warm sheet and blanket. Oh my!....Is there a way to get this at my own home? I loved it! The massaging starts with warm oil of course and then they use hot stones. I've never had a hot stone massage before but I am officially hooked. The heat they emit and the way they feel being rubbed on you is delightful. My feet are always cold and when she put these tiny lil stones in between my toes and wrapped my feet in warm towels, I could not help but smile b/c I was so relaxed and appreciative I was getting to experience this lovely service. The time went by way too fast and I plan on booking the 90 minute massage next time. It's not exactly cheap but it's worth it. My only suggestion is for the front desk to not automatically include a 20% tip. I was going to do it anyways but I think people should have the luxury of choosing what to tip and with this spa, people may want to tip more than that. read more

Clean and modern spa. Staff is friendly though not always on the ball. There was no one at the front desk when I showed up for my appointment and the girl who rang me up made a mistake and charged my credit card twice and I had to wait for days for the extra charge to drop off my account. Their massages are good, but probably not worth full price. Sign up for their emails to get special pricing. Get the hot stones--they put them between your toes and wrap your feet in a hot towel--which is fabulous. read more

So I received a massage and facial at Spa. The massage was nice but the therapist breath was a bit smelly. So much for aroma therapy. Also I didn't like that he didn't ask me about pressure cause he really didnt use any and I needed it! It was very very relaxing though. I would go to him again he did this thing where he massaged the back of my neck then let my head fall between his fingers...I FELL IN LOVE! Now the facial by Miss Julia was amazing. I have really large pores and when I left I could barely see them. She did get a little rough with the extractions but what do I know maybe they were tough. I would love to give Spa a 5 but they are missing some of the things that I really enjoy about some hotel spas like a Sauna, steam room, whirlpool, fun products to use in the locker rooms. I recently had a staycation with my husband for his b-day at The Wit and we also treated ourselves to spa services at the Spa@theWit. The customer service was phenomenal (from booking the appointments to the confirmation call) Superior! It was small and quant, the locker rooms were so clean and nicely decorated. I loved the personal touch with the little note with our name on them that was in our locker. The whisper lounge was so relaxing. I got a facial and my husband a massage. We both got a mani and pedi. The nail services were top-notch! So sanitary. My facial itself was ok technique wise but the product line they use was awful! I just had an amazing experience at the Spa at the Wit! I am In Chicago for work this week, and walked by the Wit on my way back to my hotel after a fairly stressful all-day meeting. Decided I would call to see if I could squeeze in a quick mani/pedi, or maybe a massage. Great service from the very start. I called to make an appointment for a mani/pedi. When it didn't appear that there was an appointment available, Eric said he might be able to shift some things around and that he would call me back immediately to let me know. Sure enough, he called me within 3 mins and had an appointment for me. Then I asked if I could have a massage before that. And he said yes! Gotta love a place when they really do try to accommodate you (instead of you having to be the flexible one all the time!). It must have been total luck because I got Jason for my massage--and he was just an absolute treat. I cannot emphasize this enough. I literally walked in there one person, and walked out another. He not only addressed my problem areas, but balanced the deep tissue service with a good dose of relaxation. Magic hands and he's a cool guy to talk to! He was exactly what I needed. I will definitely be back to see him when I come back to Chicago. Oh, and the sheets on the massage table are to die for. And Jason put my spa robe on a towel warmer during the service, so when I slipped it on after the massage it was toasty warm. Such a nice treat! The express mani/pedi was ok, not great. Mostly because the nail room was REALLY COLD after the comfy toasty massage room and the heated robe and all. She also took about 5 mins between the pedi and the mani in order to clean out the foot bath (fine, except I was freezing and just wanted to get back to the locker room and put my clothes back on!). The service itself was routine. I will mention that the nail tech used sterilized and disposable tools (and is obviously concerned about the cleanliness of the foot bath) so I'd definitely go back when I need a touch up or a polish change. But next time I will make sure I am wearing more than my spa robe! Locker rooms and the Whisper Room are a little small, but I was the only one using them so it was totally fine by me (preferred, actually). All in all, a great experience. I will be back! read more

It was just meh. The massage was unmemorable- lots of caressing when I asked for their therapeutic. Plus It is very small. The whisper lounge (which is just three lounge chairs with side tables and low lighting) is equivalent to the size of a walk in closet. The locker room can accommodate maybe two people at a time comfortably. But you pay tremendous prices for the service AND then they hike on a 22% service charge that they don't tell you about. So be warned. When we asked about the extra charges, we got a very cold response. We got "it is what it is so deal with it" kind of response. It left a bad taste in my mouth after trying to have a relaxing day. I would never go back. I've been to several spas so I will tell you there are way better ones with better customer service. read more

Excellent experience. I came here for a couples massage on my anniversary, for which they provided complimentary champagne. They were easy to schedule with, although I received a LOT of reminders. One would suffice. The locker rooms had anything you could need to get ready to go out after your massage. The whisper room was something I've never seen before at other spas, and it really helped me relax before the massage. The massage room for couples was gorgeous and clean, but I had wished the music was just slightly louder to drown out more of the city noise. My masseuse for my therapeutic massage (their version of deep tissue) was Valerie, and she did an excellent job accommodating the pressure I wanted. The best thing she did, which is so hard to find in masseuses, is that she paid attention to areas that needed more attention and actually focused on them, rather than just giving the same treatment and timing to all areas. I am sad to report that my first experience at the Spa@theWit was below my expectations. My experience with my massage therapist was excellent. She was very kind and courteous, and asked for feedback regarding her pressure level. My massage itself was good/average. My experience with the receptionist was less than ideal. I had an appointment at 6:00pm, and I walked in at 6:02pm. Instead of welcoming me to my first time at this spa - her first words to me were "since you are late, your massage will be cut short." By no means would I expect my massage to be longer than what is expected, but I thought it was a very rude introduction. I had a long day at work and was running a few minutes late because of work responsibilities, and it was a very rude welcoming to what was supposed to be a relaxing experience. They offered me some refreshments in the "whisper room," but noted that the longer I took to change into my robe, the more my massage would be cut short. I figured I would get some tea after my massage and explore the facilities, but the door was closed after my massage, and at that point I was just looking to leave. The locker room was mediocre, shower was average. Lastly, after my massage, the receptionist comments "it's customary to leave a 20% tip." She did not ask how my experience was, but was rather hoping to receive my payment and move on. Regardless, I was planning to give my therapist a 20%+ tip, however I find it very unprofessional to demand a client pay a certain amount of voluntary money. The decision to tip and how to much to tip is a personal decision, and clients should not be influenced or pressured to leave a certain amount of money. It is sad that a respected hotel such as The Wit would have such terrible service, especially for a $100 massage. Lauren the massage therapist is totally unprofessional, apparently wearing revealing clothing while massaging clients is acceptable in her mind. Not sure if you're trying to get a better tip, or flirt on the job Lauren, but you should definitely be seriously talked to by management. Rules are rules and if you work at a prestigious place like the Wit, I would expect you to act accordingly and be professional. For the prices this spa charges, my experience was a huge disappointment. I didn't think it lived up in most ways to any other spa experience I've had. It may have been worth it if they charged about 40 percent less. Overall, the spa is extremely small and the rooms were freezing! My friend and I covered up with towels while waiting in the relaxation room because it was so cold. The relaxation room is tiny, with only 3 lounges. They have magazines but it is far too dark in the room to read. They had some tea and water laid out but nothing more. You also could hear the guy at the front desk talking and laughing the whole time. The women's locker room is tiny with only one shower and one toilet. The lockers were far too small to hold your purse and clothes. They had a decent amount of products to primp with, but nothing to get excited about. The treatment rooms are fine. I did love the heated tables so that was a plus after having major goosebumps in the relaxation meat locker. The best part about each of the rooms was the robe/towel warmer which each staff member utilized for me while in treatment. That was a great touch. I did enjoy my massage and body treatments. My masseuse was extremely sweet and knowledgeable. She helped remove about a year's worth of tension from my shoulders. She talked a little, but never at a time where she could tell i was zoning out. I had an 80 minute massage and a 50 minute body wrap. I've never had a body wrap before and felt a tiny bit claustrophobic. She made sure I was comfortable and checked on me often while wrapped. I quickly overcame my anxiety and fell asleep. She did a wonderful job and I would go and see her again if she were at another spa. I also enjoyed my facial. I had a 50 minute facial with an added peel. The girl who did the facial was very pleasant to talk to, and had the most amazing skin. Which is what you want to see with someone who is working on yours! She also educated me as to what she was doing as we went along. She gave me some pointers for later on to help me handle a few problem areas. Again, I would go to see her if she were somewhere else. I ended the day with a mani / pedi. First off, they do not offer no chips. Major bummer! Second, they charge way too much for what they actually do. They charged $15 to remove the other no chip I had. The only thing they did was plop my hands in a bowl of acetone and then scrap off the remaining gel. So for 15 minutes I breathed in straight acetone and my fingers were pruney and dry. The technician was extremely nice but all in all it was one of the worst mani/ pedi I have ever had. She spent more time cleaning up the polish mistakes than she did painting it. And the mani chipped the next day. The hand massage was almost non existent, too. The shape of my toe nails were uneven. The only plus, is they offer London Butter colors which I love. While I enjoyed the massage and facial, the overall experience wasn't great. I doubt I'll return as I don't think it's anywhere near worth the cost. The staff members were very nice, but the front desk guy seemed extremely unprofessional. When my friend complained about some of our issues with the nails, he did nothing to try and make us happy. My Husband and I couples massage for my Birthday could have had more pressure and the so called swedish massage was like a soft $200 touch. I have had plenty of massages and what we received was not worth it. We talked to another couple who visited the same day and they said their massage was not crap. I will say that the spa was clean, and we enjoyed the free tea and refreshments in the whisper room, the locker rooms were clean and modern and looked great and the champagne was nice. The only problem was the pressure of the massage and when we said more pressure they ask you to upgrade to theraputic massage, I just wanted the swedish massage we were suppose to receive. This makes for a nice little spa buried in the heart of downtown. The spa is nice, kept dark and relatively quiet. I had a massage, which was fine. It was supposed to be therapeutic, but wasn't really, though it was a nice massage, it just wasn't in depth. I went in with a stiff neck and I left with a stiff neck. The whisper lounge is a nice side room, which was the reason I went there in the first place. I was annoyed to find that the lounge chairs aren't adjustable, so you *have* to lie down, making reading difficult. Also, for a quiet space, the door to the women's locker room is loud when it clicks shut. My other problem was the lockers are tiny! There was no where to even hang up your coat, so this little locker had to hold my knee-high boots, winter jacket, clothes, and purse. Overall a relaxing place. read more

I had an awesome time during my pedicure Monday at the spa at theWit. Readers should be aware that I ended up getting a pedicure because the spa did not have any massage openings day of. Schedule ahead if this is what you're looking for! I loved how good the girl who did my pedicure was at making genuine friendly conversation. I felt like we got along so well! She also did an excellent job. A special touch is that the spa at theWit has polishes that dry in 5 minutes. I had never experienced this before! I got to chill in my massage chair with my hibiscus tea at the end of my pedicure waiting these 5 minutes before putting on my boots and heading out. I was convinced that when I took my boots back off my polish would be destroyed but sure enough it is still perfectly intact! theWit will be my new recommendation to anyone downtown looking for a spa - particularly my friends who can afford these pricey services ;) read more

I received a 50min Essential Organic Facial with Randi and a 50min Signature Massage with Angelyn. Both services are the best I've ever had from a hotel. Most facials I have gotten, the therapist seemed more concerned with the time but not here! I was able to relax in the Whisper lounge with my tea and snack on trail mix. When I went into the treatment room the air was filled with aromatherapy which automatically put me at ease. The best part was the facial massage. I fell asleep during both treatments! I've never been so relaxed before. I will be returning for more services. Maybe even a facial peel! read more

The spa was really nice and the massage was amazing. Angelyn was really nice and really gave a wonderful massage. However, the noise from the traffic, sirens wailing most of the time, and the train going by made it impossible to relax. If you do decide to go, bring ear plugs, noise canceling headphones, or make sure you are in an interior room. The other thing that bothered me was that the girl checking out did not seem at all bothered when I told her it was hard to relax because of the noise. She said that a lot of people had been complaining about the incessant sirens today. She also said, sorry that's what happens in downtown Chicago. I do realize they could not help this, but they also didn't try to make it better. I relaxed for a few minutes after my massage in the Whisper Room. This room was also on an outside wall, but there was no noise in there since there was no window. They really should offer you ear plugs or noise canceling headphones to help you relax. I was quite disappointed with my spa experience. It was a gift from my daughter for Mother's Day, so I was really looking forward to it. However, my hopes were quickly dashed after waiting for approximately 45 minutes. I was eventually told that my masues was running late and forgot my appointment. Do not go to this spa for a manicure and pedicure. First off, they don't have much of a color selection. Second, it took two hours for the pedicure and manicure. And then the spa did not have any drying apparatus. I had to leave with nails that weren't fully dried so they smeared on my way out. It was too late to go back and get them fixed because I couldn't hang around for another hour. Plus this was very expensive - $125 plus an automatic $20 tip. read more

We stayed at the Wit during our wedding weekend. The services I received in the nail salon were excellent, albeit high Chicago prices, and I would return if staying there again. The couple's massage was okay. The therapists were friendly and accommodating. However, the space was very small, chilly, and the atmosphere was not as relaxing as I'd like given the city light and noise coming in (my table was very close to the window, and bright lights were coming around the drapes and cool air from the window, not the best set-up). There was some confusion with the type of massages we booked, which created some stress in sorting out (we requested the therapeutic massages, which was mistakenly recorded as the Wit Signature massage). Although they quickly resolved the confusion with the receptionist, they proceeded to very nicely try to up-sell us while in the massage room. I was a bit frustrated given the encounter and simply reiterated that we were looking forward to the therapeutic massages and would be happy with that service alone. Not the time or place, in my opinion, once clients are in the room ready to relax. We were hoping for deep tissue massages, and although I think they did their best to accommodate our requests and areas to focus on, the massages overall were not the best we've had. I think the spa does a decent job to create a nice space and provide decent services, but I don't think I would return for massages and certainly would think twice before paying these prices for the average quality experience received. I also think the whisper lounge concept was a nice for just when we were in there to enjoy tea and relaxation before/after treatments, but it is very small and felt uncomfortable when other guests came in given the closeness of the lounge chairs and intimate feel of the room. I also wasn't too pleased upon check out when they added a generous gratuity and after asked if that was okay. What a great experience! If you can...have Jason give you a massage...really one of the best that I have had. Locker room is small, but good if a slow time of day. Large, comfy, private shower. Very nice relaxation room with dried fruits, nuts, cucumber water, and gourmet tea. Improvement could be made with offering to take my coat when I came in and offering water or something...just a couple of extra credit points were missing. Can also hear the el train and siren while getting massage. Jason gets 5 stars for quality of massage. Missing a star as clean up behind other guests should have been more prompt...another guest left a cup in the relaxation room before I arrived and it was still there more than an hour later. After a busy few months (ie bought first house) and being as I was 8 months pregnant, my husband and I decided that we would take a night to ourselves and stay at the Wit for a night of relaxation. As a part of that night we decided to book a one hour couple's massage. When making the appointment I questioned whether I could get a prenatal massage as a part of the couple's massage and was told it was no problem. I must have emphasized the fact that it was one prenatal massage and one therapeutic massage at least three times. Then, when I received a call confirming my appointment I again emphasized the fact that one massage was a prenatal massage. We arrived at the spa and were greeted by the very friendly front desk person who showed us to the locker rooms and whisper lounger. The spa itself was nice, nothing too over the top. The only complaint there is that the EL and traffic can be heard pretty clearly in the rooms. When we were escorted into the massage room for our couples massage the first thing my masseuse said to me was "I guess you can't lay on your stomach." She then said I could just stay on my back - which also is not recommended when you are 8 months pregnant. I asked if she was certified for prenatal massage and she informed me that she was not. I no longer felt comfortable getting the massage from this masseuse because my dr. told me to only get a massage from someone certified in prenatal. Needles to say, this was not going to be a prenatal massage, but rather a massage and I happened to be pregnant. Later the masseuse told me that she did not know that I was pregnant until I walked in to the spa and that she had done a couple prenatal massages, but not anyone as pregnant. The masseuse and front desk person were very helpful and accommodating and were able to get me set up with a facial that would begin only about 20 mins later. The person giving my facial was very understanding and I did not feel like she was rushed or anything because they squeezed in my appointment. She did mention that only some of the masseuses were certified to give prenatal massages. The facial was ok - not the worst one I have received, but not the best either. It was missing things like head, feet or scalp massage and a cushion under your legs for support, however, my skin did look great after it was done. Needless to say, our nice bonding relaxing evening at the Spa at the Wit did not happen, but the services we did receive were ok. read more
