I didn't expect it to be a big job since we've used the fireplace just about four months in 2025. ( I almost put the service off a bit longer to save a few bucks.) My safety minded brain would not let me. THE DAY OF THE APPOINTMENT: my stove was not in use for months over the warm weather, so we we able to proceed. TIP: DO NOT USE UOUR FIREPLACE FOR AT LEAST 48 hours and insure there are no hot coals or they will need to reschedule for safety. We were ready to proceed. Despite this, there unfortunately was still a misunderstanding on our end. We reviewed the reports and decided to get both the creosote treatment and boiler liner installation. Dave and Matt came to do those and were friendly, efficient and clean. Later, when my husband looked at the work they did, it did not appear to be what we were previous told it would be at the initial inspection. We expected masonry and busting through the cinderblock and there didn't seem to be any of that. We wanted to make sure they were doing what we had been told they would do. We called and spoke to the owner, Robbie, who listened attentively to my husband's concerns. He very professionally and calmly explained the misunderstanding and apologized, explaining that honest work and customer satisfaction is of their upmost priority. We were very impressed with how he handled this and left the conversation having 100% faith in this business and its service people. They conducted a thorough investigation, diagnosed the underlying issue and recommended a treatment plan tailored to fully eliminate the odor. Since June '23, their technicians have been on point- responsive, knowledgeable and consistent. We also decided to invest in a specialized water filtration system as part of a more thorough solution, not just for odor elimination, but for long-term peace of mind and health reasons. I mean...who would want to bathe in, brush teeth and cook with water that has a fart smell??? David came out on a Thursday back in '23 for a follow-up and took the time to inspect everything thoroughly and confirm that the new system- from the pipes to the additional components installed earlier that summer were operating properly. By late August of that year, we saw major progress and the sulfur smell was completely gone. We signed up for a maintenance plan because we want continued oversight to ensure everything stays in excellent condition. Buyer Beware: Dishonest, Unprofessional, and Unreliable…read more We had a very troubling experience with John Kulk of Kulk's Plumbing and his employees. After diagnosing an issue as a contractor error, John Kulk later changed his story to the contractor, claiming it was our fault, which caused significant confusion and delays. John Kulk then suggested we file a claim with our homeowners insurance to correct the negligence of the contractor. The next day, the contractor stated in writing that he had "conferred" with John Kulk and repeated the same question, "perhaps that could go through your homeowners' insurance??" During the service, the atmosphere was uncomfortable. John Kulk said he can't find qualified workers and complained his employees frequently argue in front of customers. We previously had to ban John Kulk's employees from our home due to their unprofessional behavior. We also faced major reliability issues; snow removal was promised but denied immediately when the first snow storm arrived. Given the overpricing and lack of professional conduct, the quality of service here has significantly declined. We do not feel comfortable having John Kulk's Plumbing in our home again.
