Decided to give this place another try. Only this time we went to the downtown location which was quite fun and trendy. Shooting peanuts throughout the ceiling delivered right to the table in a metal Dog dish kind of a bowl. We started with the soft pretzels ( three) And they came with beer cheese dip which was good and hot. Pretzel burger buns (much better bun) was cooked just right with your choice of toppings and I opted for grilled onions and pickles. Everything is à la cart which is fine if you don't want fries why pay for them. Happy hour prices on their burgers which is only four dollars and toppings are extra. Their homemade custard is pretty good and light as I don't care for heavy custard. They also offer shakes and one shake was enough to split our table of three so we could all have some and try it . So I booked marked this spot thanks to a fellow yelper (Diana A thanks for doing the leg work lol) I was very intrigued by these cheese curds. First time we came it was pretty packed but it didn't take them long to get us seated. We went straight for cheese curds and my sister wanted to try the totchos. Man like my sister said those cheese curds are life changing lol. Those totchos were delicious, they had cheese, sriracha sauce, pico de gallo and bacon pieces what else can you ask for. The Medusa and Milwaukee we ok, small regular basic burgers but they weren't bad. Second time we came lol we got two orders of cheese curds and order of totchos and I wanted to try the buffalo chicken egg rolls. Its was different but they were good. I recently came here for a double date with my best friend while in town. Once you walk in it's pretty small inside and also there's tons of graffiti everywhere which I couldn't quite decide if I hated or loved. I did enjoy the flying peanut bombs though, super unique concept. As for food my boo and I shared the cheese curds along with a cheeseburger with fried onions and pickles added. The food was great! The cheese curds were cooked deliciously and I liked the chipotle dipped sauce. The burger was also very good too, great flavor in the beef. We came here because we read the reviews and the location seemed nice. It is mostly street parking, which took us a little bit to find. It wasn't a very busy night, it was a game night though and our order took a long time! Our server was nice, but it took a while for our order to be made and our server hardly checked up on us. We both ordered the Medusa, which was a decent burger, but it wasn't anything memorable or crazy good. I got the cheese curds, which were pretty good! I would come back just for the curds. Their fries were good too, crispy and thin. For the price of everything, it was a bit high. I don't think the quality was worth the price. The peanuts they provide was pretty good, but our server took a long time to refill and didn't pay attention to us, to check. We were stumbling around the area after having a healthy amount of beer samples at a local brewery when the hunger set in. We saw that AJ's had good reviews on Yelp and decided to come here. It was good to see there weren't too many people (it was Sunday around 8 PM), and we were seated right away. My boyfriend LOVED the peanut butter burger and cheese curds. I had a vegan Impossible burger. I was very pleasantly surprised they had this option. It's always hard to find vegan foods at burger places. And of course, we had more drinks. We got there right when they opened the food was good. For just opening for the day it wasn't very clean mustard bottles had crusty mustard at the top, floors were sticky and windows dirty with employees just standing around talking to each other. My partner and I came here last night since I had a really nice experience here 3 years ago when we came to Milwaukee together for the first time ever, and we were able to watch the Bucks v. Clippers game (the Bucks stadium is also around the corner from here). Our server was Hailey, she was really sweet and made sure to check on us any chance she got despite waiting several tables. I had 2 seasonal mules, an order of cheese curds, a classic AJ burger with a side of fruit, and a cup of Oreo custard. I also asked Hailey if we could have a peanut bomb (when the bartender fills a rocket with a handful of peanuts, and drives it to a target which drops the peanuts into a cup, and we can have them as a snack at our table -- you'd have to see this to believe it, it's so entertaining to see in person). The Big Boy Tribute: I've had AJ Bombers before, but it's been a few years. I decided to try it again after doing "Al's Walk" for Children's Hospital last month (proximal hamstring tendinitis prevented me from doing the run). Some of you may recognize the name of the restaurant because it was credited with having the best burger in MKE by Travel Channel's "Food Wars" show. Many will argue against the title, but I can't argue that the burgers at Bombers are very tasty. Today's burger is a present day iteration of the "Big Boy" burger, which is very similar to a McDonald's "Big Mac". The "Tribute" is made with two 1/4lb patties, American cheese, shredded lettuce, tribute sauce, and delivered on a double-decker sesame seed bun. The patties were flavorful and the cheese and sauce were abundant. I thought this burger was delicious. It looks and tastes like how I remember "Big Macs" as a kid (Big Macs make me kind of sad as an adult). Besides appearing and tasting better than a Big Mac, the "Tribute" has two slices of cheese to the "Big Mac's" one. "Big Mac" burger patties are also not in the correct meat to bun ratio (too much bun & too little meat). Thankfully the "tribute" nails the meat to bun ratio. Doughboy approved! But from the very start after sitting down at our table we didn't have a waitress for 25 mins.. we didn't get our beverages for another 20-25 mins and another 30 mins for our food to arrive. I'm understanding of the food taking that long.. although the restaurant had at most 15 people in it at the time, I was very much disappointed with our experience. My partner for the big boy tribute while I got the patty melt and both were so freaking good and they definitely hit the spot. Absolutely, no doubt about it I had the Milwaukee burger it was juicy and tender add an egg for $1 amazing amazing flavors and they have a couple of different sauces. I've always been on the fence about AJ Bombers. But my mom wanted to try the Marc's Big Boy Burger they were advertising for a limited time. So we decided to check it out after a show at the Riverside. Parking can be annoying since this location is downtown and on our visit there was an event at the Fiserv.Forum. If you have patience, street parking will be available. Otherwise there are some pay lots around. After that you arrive inside to what appears to be a wait. There is seating or lingering spots for those who have to wait. Luckily for us they had a table for two available so that wasn't so bad. But other people were waiting 20 to 30 minutes for a spot. I think this place is on the No-Wait which is conveniently located in the Yelp App so you should check that out during peak times. Now to that big boy burger... Oh wait, they didn't have it yet. Yeah, turns out we, and half the restaurant, turned up for the same thing. Everybody was asking for the burger except we were all a day early. Per the advertising it was starting the very next day. Ugh. We considered leaving but since we weren't quick enough to think of anything else we decided to try something else. It was the last day of their Bernie's Bomber menu which was Brewers themed items. My mom and I both ordered Ryan Braun's Double Bacon Cheeseburger which was created by him specifically for this menu. And I ordered some deep fried pickles. Everything is ala carte here. If you want a side of fries, tots, etc, you better order it because your burger doesn't come with it. I think also need to specify your toppings when you build the burger on the menu. The deep fried pickles were not good. They were thinly sliced pickles heavily breaded. So I wanted to taste the pickle and all I tasted was breading. Pretty sad. The breading to pickle ratios needs to be fixed. I wouldn't recommend if you want to taste pickles. But if you're all about breading, have at it. The burger was decent. It was a well cooked, juicy beefy burger. I thought there would be a little more sauce and bacon on it but you get what you get. It was good. I'd order it again but I can't since it's a special menu that is now gone. Overall the staff was friendly and service was quick. Our server was patient while we decided what to order and helpful with all my questions. He was also apologetic when he broke the news about the big boy burger. And he corrected a mistake on our bill. Kudos to that guy. I know this place is in a lot of lists of best burger or places to try in Milwaukee. If you're from out if town or just haven't been before, I'd say it's worth a visit. You can mark it off your list and take some good food photos. But after that I'm not so sure. This place has such a cool atmosphere. I love that they serve peanuts with the meals and the floor is covered in peanut shells. I like the grungy feel and that you can write stuff on the walls. I also liked how you could fully customize your burgers. I did not like how long the wait was (over an hour) but it's worth it because the food is great. They have a really cool rack system attached to the ceiling where they send nuts in bowls to different tables. That's so original. The burgers are delicious. The patties are small so you probably will want a double - they don't sell big burgers. I got the burger with peanut butter and I thought it was delicious. We take the teenager there to get his carnivor fix so we wait for a table....but there is one available. They give you a paper to mark what you want to order when you sit down which is pretty cool. I think I might be having a heart attack. I think the burger (and cheese curds) I had may have caused a small blockage in one of my arteries because it was way greasy. But greasy in a good way because it was holy cow delicious. Ordering from a plastic card with a dry erase marker, I chose the special "Bomber Burger" which the waitress recommended with the stuffed and crispy fried mushroom. And she also said that the cheese curds were awesome. I also had a beer. And while I gave my tummy a little while longer to digest the burger, I helped it along with another beer. I was in Milwaukee for one night and needed a place to go. I try and avoid the chains the best that I can, and this place was recommended by some awesome locals, so I decided to give it a try. When I walked in, the first thing that struck me was the metal tracks that originated at the bar and branched out all over the place. As I looked closer, there were old metal WWI bomber toy planes on them. Odd I thought, but I guess it went with the name of the place pretty well. We sat down at a table and I noticed the track stopped at a target above the table, and there were bowls below it. Okay, I had to ask. Apparently this the peanut delivery system, and it was pretty cool to watch. The bartender loaded up the bomber with peanuts and released the plane. It rolled to your table and "dive bombed" peanuts to you. The bomber hit the target, the peanut payload was released, and dropped into bowl at the table. This was the first time I had seen something like this (aside from a pizza place in my hometown that delivers drinks on a train track) and it was kind of awesome. I was told that since I was there on a Tuesday, the tots were on special. Hell yeah! Sign me up! My group of three went with three appetizers.. fried pickles, cheese curds and tots smothers in cheese and ground beef. I think I polished off most of the cheese curds and ate way more than my share of the tots. Delicious. For my dinner, I went with one of the burgers. While I can't remember the name of it.. I will tell you that the seasoning they use on the beef is killer, and I somehow found a way to eat all of it. The other two people with me each got burgers as well, and there wasn't anything left on the table when we finished.
