I was looking for a Racine area resturant on the way to watch a friends kids soccer matches. This was a great choice. The coffee came in a metal pot delivered hot to my table. I was able to enjoy several cups as they were needed. The food also came out quickly. I received a platter full of great food including chocolate chip pancakes. Your food display in the entrance is tacky and unnecessary and gives the wrong impression. Good luck, I'd say this spot will be empty in a year with these ridiculous prices. $87 for some waffles? I love Douglas Ave Diner! they have a classic menu that most older diners would have. They are open for breakfast and lunch. Their prices are decent and the service is fast even on mother's day weekend when we thought we would have to wait forever, it was only about 20mins. read more

Personally, I only patronize this restaurant for breakfast and I usually order the 'gyro and eggs.' My husband typically orders one of the breakfast skillets on the menu. Everything tastes decent, but not something I'd rave about. Beverages include coffee, juices, sodas, mimosas, and even beer. Service: Could certainly use improvement, but the service industry has taken a large hit post-Covid, so I guess I should be glad that they have humans who show up for work. Waitresses lack any amount of enthusiasm, and the female owner sometimes serves as the front cashier, but her demeanor isn't inviting (I've sensed this on more than one occasion). Value: okay, but I've read others reviews, and now feel like I need to pay more attention to my receipts now. Paying extra for toast with a meal that says it's included is wild ! A friend and I were there today. we both ordered biscuits and gravy with a side of eggs. my friends poached eggs were undercooked, they reheated the same eggs to way over cooked. never recook eggs! Our biscuits and gravy were terrible. Burnt biscuits and the gravy looked gray, it was cold and very pasty. Taisted like raw flour and no sausage. We did not eat it, told the waitress and were still being charged with a little discount. We talked with the owner, he got very angry and tossed the ticket while being very loud. Classic American diner fare. Great food, friendly and quick service, cool 50's/60's decor. Ate breakfast here three days in a row and would go back tomorrow. It doesn't look like much from the outside thanks to the shuttered K-Mart next door, but once you step inside you will be transported to a simpler time. read more

Great food, lines and wait are usually pretty long so if your in a hurry it's not the place for you. Prices are a little high for what you get but the food makes up for it. Where to start? This is a local, family owned spot and has a loyal following (for reasons unknown). I gave them just about as many chances as one can - probably even a couple more just because they're local and family-owned. Well, here's a wake up call. Being "local and family-owned" doesn't mean you get to thrive from good reviews if you serve subpar food at inflated prices. I ordered corned beef hash breakfast and a small juice. The juice came from the same IV bag crap you get from continental breakfast buffets at any hotel. Ok fine, but $3? The "sunny" eggs had a 1/2" thick layer of uncooked white on top. The consistency of snot with the clarity of salmonella gel. The hash browns were void of any seasoning and as dry as your senile aunt Mary's thanksgiving turkey she left in the oven for 3 extra hours. The corned beef hash was.. well, it was from a can and reminded me how I used to eat before I could afford to start going to restaurants. It smelled and tasted (I assume) like dog food. Finally, the toast. Perfectly toasted bread and salty melted butter - perfection *chefs kiss*. Hey they didn't get everything wrong to earn that one star. Am I being unfair? Maybe. Maybe this is your favorite joint. I don't get it though. Everyone's prices are up now, I'm not blaming them for that. But when I have to shell out $60 for 4 breakfasts and get what I got.. well... Definitely an a-ok stop, epecially given the slim pickin's in Racine. Essentially. It's a Greek restaurant in "50's diner" clothes. The interior is fresh, clean and quite nice - not what you might expect from the K-Mart strip mall location. Tables have boomerang Formica tops and the walls are coated with 50's themed pictures. The menu is what you'd expect - breakfast, lots of sandwiches, burgers and melts along with a few diner classics like liver and meatloaf. Prices are fair. Our service was friendly and very efficient. The food is a-ok. Hubs had a respectable patty melt with nice crispy fries. I had an open faced turkey sandwich which came with a big bowl of soup. Here's the thing - my turkey was from a bird (not a "loaf") and the mashed potatoes were real with lumps and skins present. To take these lovely things and drown them in that horrifying foodservice gravy is a sin. Disgusting gravy aside, I have no issues with the Douglas Ave Diner. read more

A retro-style 50's diner, with all the ubiquitous kitsch of such places, they serve all the regular faire: burgers, malts, fries, I dunno: Vanilla Coke? The neat thing is: THEY HAVE BEER!!! Woo hoo! Sadly this is not the place to dine. The hours posted are not honored. We have actually run into this problem in the past so we called ahead before leaving home. We were told by the owner they were closing at 3PM. My husband and I have been frequenting this establishment for years at this point and are aware they do not honor the posted hours. When you call before heading out you expect that your going to be served. We walked in at 2:45 and were informed by the poor waitress that they had closed at 3. Confused I looked at my daughter, trapped my smartwatch (The time is set by my smartphone and uses the atomic clock or comparable baselines.) and see the time is as I thought. If your only going to serve food till a time before you actually close your door you really should post the time. Sadly after dining here many times we will no longer frequent the establishment. read more

My family visited the Douglas Avenue Diner almost weekly for many years. Unfortunately when ownership of the restaurant changed, the very nice greeting and welcoming feel went away. The hostess now is very rude, unnaproachable, and seems as if she is being inconvenienced by our business. Most of the wait-staff are very friendly, food is pretty good, and the restaurant is clean. After the last encounter with the unfriendly hostess, we walked out and went to another nearby restaurant with no intentions of returning to the diner. read more

The Main problem was the strawberry (they used some thick sugary saucy mess all over it) If you're not going to do it right, please don't have on the menu. At least I didn't have the Meatloaf like my friend. the Menu said Homemade..Yeah right. There was no evidence of meatloaf like mom used to make, this looked like out of the grocer's freezer. It is a local diner in the middle of a strip mall so unless you've been there before, it could be easy to miss. They do a good job at keeping the retro diner vibe going with the decor and the seating. The food (although comes at a great price) leaves something to be desired.
