Agree with all the 1 star reviews. Almost got scammed by them. My a/c was having issues not cooling and I had a appointment with them. They recommended me to replace the entire outdoor unit, because they mentioned it would not turn on reliably. And that new one will cost $4K. I told them I need to do more research and did not buy it even though they were trying to get me to buy a new ac even though my old ac was perfectly fine. I hired another repairman the same day and he was able to diagnose the problem and fix the problem(capacitor, apparently a very common problem) Bottom line, dont use these people read more

Had technician come in to check my central air unit at my condo. Machine did not make any cold air. The AJ Perri tech of New Jersey, took apart some stuff inside saying g he was checking things, then after putting it back together, said I needed a new unit cause it was too much of a big job to try to fix, since the condenser and Freon access of my magipak unit was all the way in the back. So I paid $137 for that time. He gave me an appointment with a sales person about getting an estimate for a new unit. The sale person was very professional, he spent two hours with me to help me try to get the best price possible, and finally gave me an estimate for $12000. The following Monday I found a local company that fixed my unit in a few hours, adding a sealer, Freon, cleaning the coil and rebottling the unit to the base. Now I am going to dispute my Amex charge from AJ Perri. Those technicians apparently are trained to sell you a new unit, and not really helping you to fix your machine. Again. I called today just before 9 AM to inqiuire if they were available to fix a leak under the kitchen sink. They expressed the rates for the diagnostic review and informed me that any work that was performed whould be charged and the $129 diagnostic fee would be subtracted. I agreed and they schedculed the appointment between 12 - 4. At 3:50 I called to inquire the statues of the technician and was informed that no techinican will be arriving. This is what unprofessional looks like! No call to inform me of the status and the lady who took my call then provides the additional attitude like its my fault or inconvenience. For those of you who have used AJ Perri and have had success I can only say, this probably won't change your mind. My family and I bought a house in August 2023. When we moved in, the central air in the house was perfect downstairs but upstairs did not get any cold or hot air in two rooms. My family went to Home Depot to see if they could help us in this situation. We are first-time homeowners so we have no experience on how to deal with these types of problems. When my family went to Home Depot, they contracted AJ Perri to take care of us. AJ Perri sent an engineer and he stated that the temperature was different upstairs and downstairs because the unit was oversized and that the thermostat was turning off because downstairs was reaching the temperature that it was set at. The engineer stated that we needed a new unit that was smaller to accommodate the size of the house and a thermostat on each floor and he quoted us $11,500 for the new unit. We went along with it and the installation happened on September 19th, 2023. Once they finished the installation, we noticed there wasn't a thermostat upstairs. We asked the installation crew why they didn't put the thermostat upstairs and they responded that they had no idea about it and didn't receive any instructions for it. We gave it a day to see if the new unit fixed the issue and nothing changed. We called AJ Perri telling them the new unit doesn't work still. When the technician came, he said the unit was never the issue and that the ducts in the house were the issue. The installation department called us a few days later and they said the only solution was a ductless system upstairs in each room. At this point, we were a couple of months into this situation and we asked for a return of the old unit. We did not want the ductless unit in each room. On October 19th, 2023, they installed the three ductless units. To no one's surprise, this did not fix the situation. AJ Perri sent another technician again and this time he said that everything worked perfectly fine. They would start ignoring our calls. We contacted Home Depot once again to tell them that AJ Perri changed the units and that the air still doesn't work upstairs. We then received a call from Mr. Frank Carbo from the quality assurance department of AJ Perri. He has been in our house back and forth for about 6 months, closing vents and ruining the airflow in the house. After his visits, some areas around the house stopped getting air due to him closing vents. We go back to Home Depot and tell them we need a refund and our old unit back so we can contact another contractor. Home Depot then sent out Andrew Gamatko, the operations manager at AJ Perri. He told us that the unit they installed was never working and they would replace it and if it did not work, we would get a refund. He was so sure that he was going to fix the problem that he gave us his number and email if anything went wrong. After some time, the air stopped getting better and returned to the old ways so we called him. Mr. Gamatko gave us two options; to get a refund or to hire a contractor to change the duct layout in the house and they will take care of everything else. We kindly accepted the refund because we had been asking for it for months. Mr. Gamatko said okay and told us someone would call us to process the refund. On May 16th, 2024, we received a call from a lady by the name of Kelly Giola. She told us that AJ Perri had a meeting about us and they will refund us but we need to fill out a form online. She gave us a website and told us if we had any issues to call her or go to Home Depot. The website was not working and there was no way to claim the refund online. The next day we tried contacting Ms. Giola but she ignored our calls and no way we could reach her. We went to Home Depot to see how we could claim the money and they were so defensive on the whole case. The installation manager, Mr. Owen, came to speak to us. When we were explaining the whole thing to him his reaction was "AJ Perri does great work for my home and they are our best friends. There has to be a mistake." When he said this, it clicked to us that they would do everything in their power to not give us a refund. We have exhausted all the resources that we have and are just completely fed up with this whole situation. We have been almost a year going back and forth with AJ Perri and Home Depot. All we want is the refund that they have accepted and granted us. Once we spoke to Mr. Owen at Home Depot, we knew we were dealing with extremely unprofessional companies that only care about the money in their pockets. I am writing this review to try to warn people to not make the same mistake that we did. If you are a first-time homeowner, please do yourself the favor and go with a different contractor. Please do your research on the company beforehand but I will save you time. Even if you have to pay a little extra money to go with a different contractor, please do it. Very unprofessional. I scheduled an appointment 2 weeks ago for a servicing and filter replacement and they gave me a 4 hour window of 8-12. At 11:45, I called them to make sure they were coming. After being transferred to the dispatch center, they told me that they could not make the appointment today because they over booked. In the meantime, they inconvenienced me, as well as my tenant who rescheduled her CPR training. Out of courtesy and business professionalism, they could have called me and made me aware of this. Why, as a customer do I need to be proactive in calling to confirm the appointment, when the company I am using should be the one that does this? I paid over 1,500.00 in fees. It took four technicians to come out. Now that the weather has changed I called them back. And I still do not have service. It started with a flood in the basement...so I turned off the water and waited for them to come a full day later. No water sucks but We will be fine...we don't really need to be clean. The technician was almost three hours later than promised. The problem seemed to be resolved. I was so excited to finally have water for a shower...but by the time I got out the house was freezing because my heat was turned off. I called looking for quick service since it is freezing here and their technician somehow disabled my heat. I was spoken down to by one of the representatives who made it very clear my heat being disabled by their technician was not their problem. I was told they would be there in the morning and hopefully I could find somewhere else for all of us to sleep since they weren't coming that evening. We drove over an hour each way so that none of us would die from asthma or heart conditions. We get back this morning to a very cold house and wait...and wait...and wait. An hour after my service window has ended I get a call that the technician will be there in a few hours...but it's not their problem even tho they caused my loss of heat...another condescending representative makes sure I know no heat is not a priority for them even though they advertise 24/7 service...n if one of us ends up in the hospital that's also not their problem and someone needs to be waiting at the house for the technicians so we can't all go to the hospital...almost eight hours of waiting for the technician to finally arrive. He finally arrived and took apart the humidifier and reconnected the pieces yesterday's technician took apart and the heat and humidifier (the original problem) appears to be working. There was no additional charge for this service (the only positive in my experience with this company) since the problem should have been solved yesterday. But I waited 24 hours without heat. Luckily none of us ended up in the hospital since our lives are not a priority for this company. 48 hours start to finish. Two whole days wasted. We booked this company because they had good reviews on Google (idk how cause the reviews on here are terrible) and they advertise 24/7 service. We will certainly never call them again. I have used them for years to service and maintain my generator. I called to schedule a service and they informed me they no longer service generators. They didn't have the decency to contact their existing customers to let them know. Poor customer service. No only are they expensive, they offer service contracts which they do not honor. Disgusted. I felt I was being totally scammed and decided to tell him that I want to sleep on it.They also highly recommended that I let them do Duct work that was sorely needed. After almost 2 months we are still waiting for the permits and the duct cleaning which was part of the contract. After waiting for a call to book (according with the sale person instructions) guess what nobody called us. So after many calls I was able to contact someone and my appointment was scheduled for the next 2 1/2 months. Don't expect call from them. They have so many phone numbers, so many people involved no quick results, and 100% satisfaction warranty NO that is not true. I hope nothing fails in the AC machines. I tired this company out because they seem legit! In they convinced me to sign up for their program $30 a month. None the less I started getting charged for things more than they said. Never could get the same technician so was being told different things over and over which was frustrating. I finally canceled. Monthsssss later I see a charge in my bank account from them. Of course I call beCasue I demanded a refund and said take my info out of your system! I have now waiting almost a month for my refund still fighting to get it. Every time I call it's another story. First it was 5-10 business days. Then it was two weeks. Then it was wait three weeks. Now I was told today wait 48 hours another two days! As I read the reviews written about AJ Perri, words like "thieves" and "robbed" are prevalent. I myself cannot use those words when reviewing them as a thief steals property and this did not happen to me. What words I can use is "opportunistic", "bait and switch", "scare tactic", "rip off". Here's my story: Tenant's heat stopped working. My partner without checking any reviews or background calls AJ and in short, we hire them to come out to diagnose. As I am out of state, all communication is via phone. Charge is $89 for the diagnostic. Tech shows up on time and is polite. 30 minutes later, I get a call from the Tech. Conversation goes something like this... your furnace is 11 years old. If it was a quality furnace I would say to fix it but I believe the way to go is to replace it altogether. In addition, I heard that your tenant had AC problems that you needed to repair in the summer. Your unit uses R20 which is no longer used. I can call the office and get you a free estimate to replace the entire unit. Now if you don't want to go with a brand new unit we can replace the motor but there are no guarantees that nothing else will go wrong. I say, how much will the repair be? Tech replies, $1,300. I say, well as long as its free might as well get the estimate for the replacement. Now, as a former AC tech had stated to me... any tech that mentions R20 being the reason to replace a unit, you need to run. R20 is still available and it will almost always be cheaper to repair and recharge R20 than replacing the unit. Unless of course the unit is ancient. 11 years is not ancient btw. In short, many HVAC companies will use the R20 excuse to get homeowners to purchase a brand new unit when a repair will get their AC running for years to come. So... yeah, the alarms went off and when I hung up the phone I looked them up and sure enough horrible reviews. I called them back up and asked to cancel the free estimate. I don't know how big this company is but they had to transfer me to another department. I'm guessing they have two different divisions repair and replace OR even worse, maybe they get kickbacks from the actual company that does the replacement (NOTE: JUST A GUESS, NOT A FACT). The phone call to cancel by the way went something like this: I'd like to cancel the free estimate please, I definitely do not want to replace the unit at this time. AJ personnel: well I believe the estimator already went out and there's no way for me to contact him. I can try but we don't have a means to contact them in the field. Me thinking: Whhaattt?? no cell phones at this company?? shrug. Anyways.. this review is getting pretty long so I will wrap it up. I hire another company, they come out and diagnose it. Yup, it needs a motor part. They get it the same day and the final charge is $400. So if you made it to this part, let me sum it up. AJ Quote: $1,300 + hard sell to replace entire unit ($5,000+). the other contractor: $400 and no hard sell. Who do you think I went with? Do your research guys. 6 days no central air- it's August! Told us it may be yet another week for the part to come in. First tech said it was the thermostat not connecting to the unit. Thermal came,different tech, wasn't the problem he said . So first tech didn't know enough I guess. And why don't they have parts in the summer months?!? Very disappointed! Something happens to our brand new furnace all the time (3 yr old). I need to call AJ Perri for a visit to fix and/or to replace one part or another (we bought from them a heating system plus 10 yr service agreement). Sometimes, even more then once a year things go wrong. It seems like they fix one thing and something else happens right after. Today's visit was needed for the upcoming season maintenance and to fix the 3rd zone in our house as it did not work since last year. Not only that they asked for $400 (supposedly the part was not covered by the warranty agreement), the 3rd zone still does not work. My parents spent over $11k on a new furnace & hvac system last year. This last week has been nearly 100 degrees every single day & the AC has not been working. My parents called them several times & they have no accountability to help fix it, blamed it on the circuit breaker. Dad fixed the circuit breaker & the AC still not working. They said they were coming between 8pm -12am last night & they cancelled. My parents are on their 7th day of NO AC IN THIS HEAT WAVE!!!!!! After I got my quote I went on Yelp and saw the horrible reviews. As my appointment date approached I decided try another place. AJ Perri came out to hoboken for an estimate of a leaking tub spout. they ordered the part(s) and set-up the second appointment - we were relying on them because we had invested time in the appointment and they asserted they could perform the work. On two separate occasions (day of or day before appointment) they called to say could not make the appointment because of other higher priority jobs. the day of the job (the third time) they leave a message saying they do not perform work in cities where they have to pay for parking. in actuality, they were too lazy to find a parking spot and used this an excuse to back out of the job after 2 weeks of jerking us around. They had already been to the house once before to do the estimate so obviously they do business in the city of Hoboken. An extremely unethical and unreliable company. read more

This post is a lengthy one because I have NEVER received such poor service from a company in my life or lack there of!! We contacted this company as soon as our heater gave out on us at 5am. We purchased our home this past March and our furnace is only 2 years old. Customer service said a technician will be at our house within 4 to 5 hours. I said to myself "okay great, no heat and my babies are going to get cold." I have twin newborns and a 2 year old. I decided to pack up all the kids and stay at my moms until the issue was resolved. Little did I know I would be staying with family for an entire week. The first technician came and wrote down the serial number of the part that was needed and left. We paid $100 for him to look at the front of the furnace and nothing more. The technician did not give me any information about what was going on and how much it would be, they just charged us $100. The next day no answers at all... I called several times and finally got a hold of customer service. I was fuming!! They had no answers for me they didn't know what was wrong and finally the lady said that the technician did not fill the form correctly and he has to come back to look at the furnace again. This company specializes in heating and cooling how do you not "fill out a form correctly" Day 3 A new technician comes to the house with the smallest heaters you could ever find.. thinking that the heaters would heat up my room I decided to bring the kids back. Unfortunately that was not the case, we stayed until the technician finished looking at the furnace for him to (again) write down some more new numbers and say (again) he has to order parts. I asked him what's the turnaround time and he says "well Sundays you won't hear from us, someone will contact you on Monday." The house was too cold so we went back to my moms house. Monday comes.. technician #3 adds the parts and says it's missing a piece. At this point I have extended my stay at my moms house and wanted to go home. This is already the 3rd technician that enters my home in a pandemic where I have my babies being exposed which I have been avoiding since we moved. Monday is officially over and the house is still not fixed. Customer service said someone will be coming Tuesday morning so I decided to stay at home instead of driving to my mothers house which is an hour away. The technician arrives with the parts to finish fixing the furnace and at this point I was so frustrated with the company that they should've have been more compassionate about our situation, instead, the technician had the audacity to say you're not a member with us and it is what it is. I paid for a service and EVERY customer should be treated the same way. Almost $400 for shitty service. I would never hire them ever again. read more
