Bad..cash only and they charge sales tax on everything lumpias that are frozen and 1.99 each minimum order of 5, and stale canola oil...so not going back, too expensive....if they were tasty I wouldn't have minded I could barely get one down and tossed 5 in trash what a waste of money I had hopes it would be good... read more

Even in DC, good Filipino food is a precious commodity. Most times you have to venture above the beltway into unknown shopping plazas, and even more frequently what you find will disappoint. So you can only imagine my pleasure when we not only discovered that Lawton had Filipino food but that it was REALLY good!! Whenever I visit my husband who is at Ft. Sill for BOLC, my first stop is AJP. We literally go straight from the little lawton airport to this place. Its right off Sheridan near the Asian market. Different specials grace the menu. It seems that there are always a few things that are the permanents - chicken/pork adobo, fried fish, Pinakbet, Pancit, and lumpia. I love the adobo and pinakbet - make sure you get some extra adobo sauce for your rice - nice and salty vinegary. The specials are also good, we've seen pigs feet, lechon, sinigang, leche flan...but I'm sure there's a lot more. It's basically just a counter where you point what kind of food you want with a couple tables and a register - kind of like Panda Express at the mall but in a little Filipino grocery store with really good home cooking. Don't skip this place on your tour of Lawton cuisine, I promise you won't be disappointed. Even if you've never tried it - give it a shot. My husband brought some friends who'd never had Filipino food and they loved it!! As for me, I'll be continuing to visit, hoping to see my old friends halo halo, balut, and diniguan. read more

AJ is a small mom and pop grocery store with the addition of a lunch counter. After living in Hawaii, I have very strong opinions when it comes to Filipino foods. I had pork adobo, deep fried sardine and pancit. Pork was tender, and seasoned well. I like mine extra tangy and a small bottle of vinegar was on the table to accommodate. The sardine was a little dry but seasoned well. Deep fried, not greasy, and tasted fresh. Store and restaurant were very clean. Waitress/owner was very friendly and attentive even as there were grocery shoppers. As you leave, you have to drive around the back of the store to exit. Very impressed with the garden the family has planted and are using in their food! Homemade taste with fresh veggies grown on site? Great! If any of you truly read my post you may be wondering why always a five star... I only return to restaurants that in my eyes are a five star. To me and my husband its customer service first, then the food and then the price. A lot of restaurants now a days have horrible customer service. Even though the food may be good... if the customer service sucks we will not return. Anywho...The only place to get home cooked Pilipino food in Lawton. The couple that own the business are sweet and love what they do. If you become a regular be ready to be treated like family. My favorites are the pork adobo and a desert called turon. They only take cash and only have bottled soda (coke, diet coke, sprite and DrPepper), water and then coconut juice. It's also a small grocery store for items needed for cooking some of the Pilipino food. If your up tight about everything then this place is not for you... You have to be able to loosen up when things don't go your way. read more

I felt like I stepped into someone's home kitchen eating here. The food is reflective of that too. It seems very authentic and something that the family that runs the store would probably have themselves. There were filipino people coming in and out for a meal, so it seemed pretty legit. The food is premade and kept in heating trays but it seems relatively fresh with new batches being made when the customer flow is higher. On the advice of the waitress, I tried a marinated porkchop which I'd recommend, and the adobo chicken, which was decent but I wish came in larger portions than two chicken wings. I also had the pancit noodles as a third option, which were good, but I'd probably get something else since there's already rice that comes with the meal. The service is excellent here as it's run by a couple with the husband taking care of the food in the back, and the wife running the front of the restaurant. read more

Usually only use Yelp & my fellow Yelper's advice on businesses and never really gave my own input/review. However, this hole in the wall Gem made me wanna write a novel! It really does feel as if you've stepped into an authentic Filipino kitchen! A small Mom's & Pop's restaurant that you can tell they put their foot in their cooking. It's an older couple that runs the place on their own. Get up around 6 am, cut all their meats and veggies (which is mostly fresh, you'll see their vegetable garden behind their store), and opens the restaurant around 11ish when all the food is just about ready to be served. They have about 12 different entrees to choose from served with 2 scoops of rice. The menu changes everyday but for the most part, they usually serve the "All Time Faves" Chicken Adobo & Pancit on the regular and the more "Authentic" dishes (Dinuguan, Pinakbet, etc) on the weekends! For all my Lumpia Lovers out there, make sure call 10-15 minutes ahead of time so your Lumpia can be fresh and crispy for you! Depending on how you look at it, it can be great coming early and/or late! For my Early Birds, the food is fresh and you have the luxury of picking and choosing which entrees you want. For my Late Bees that run on Filipino Time (me included lol), this couple only cooks once a day for the most part, so, whatever is left is what you have to choose from...although, this can be a good deal since they cook fresh on a daily, they'll end up piling your To-Go box high and you'll have leftovers for days! If you have any special requests, this friendly couple will go above & beyond just to cook that entree for you! Just tell them you'll be back in "such and such" days and, whether you do really return back or not, your requested dish will be served! . Oh and they also cater too! Aside from serving food, they have a little grocery aisle that has your Asian essentials, you know, pancit, soy sauce, bagoong, alamang, and all those Mama Sita packets that'll help you cook like a Filipino too lol. They also provide additional services such as sending off Balikbayan boxes to the Philippines and money remittance! I now live in Cali, and although there are a variety of Asian restaurants and stores on every corner, there's really no place like the Home-y feel of Aj Pilipinas! read more

This was an enormous disappointment. The owner was the waitress and spent a lot of time bragging on her food. Don't know why, it wasn't very good. The meat was very tough. My mouth was watering for some home cooked Filipino food. Since this was the only place I could find in the state, 3 hungry Yelpers decided to take a little adventure to Lawton. What I expected was a little different than what I got, but no harm or foul. It was an experience and I'm glad I tried it. The exterior looks like a little house. When you walk in their "market" greets you to the left, the register to your right and the food counter situated straight ahead. Everything was on warmer trays similar to what you would see at a mall food court. You can get 1-3 entree platters (all come with rice) that range in the $4.99-6.99 price range. Bottled beverages can be found in the "market" section in coolers. It cost me around $2 for a 20 oz of soda. Total for a 3 item combo plus drink = around 9 bucks and some change. We arrived at noon, but the dining area was kind of empty and she already ran out of chicken adobo. A woman came earlier and took the majority of her stock. Plus, the owner was closing early and was not planning on cooking more stuff. Bummer! I ordered pork adobo, some spinach coconut dish, meat/veggie mix and white rice. The pork was fatty and a dead ringer for a pork chop and onion dish that I grew up with. My other two dishes were just okay. Nothing real special. All in all, I dunno. It was good and the price was decent, but I left still feeling hungry. I'm not sure if I'd go out of my way to dine here again. Worth a try if you're close by and want to eat something out of the norm. read more

Tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Lawton, you approach this establishment curious to see its small size and wonder where you've brought yourself. Gardens surround the building and you know they've done a damn good job at planting and growing! (FOOD HAS TO BE GOOD RIGHT?) Walk inside and you notice a small setup of Filipino groceries and this happy, bubbly woman ready to offer you a wonderful experience. Locals that come here even add on to the experience and sort of help guide you through where everything is and what a wonderful couple the owners are- and they really are wonderful. The food is homemade, all from scratch, and the owner changes her menu daily- offering something different day to day. I felt like I was home with my mother in law. When I moved to the state in 2012, I heard rumors of a Filipino restaurant in the north side of OKC. This elusive beast, it would seem, had barely begun its life when the world decided it should take a little break. Oklahoma wasn't ready for such things. It hasn't been sighted since. But what struggles in the metropolis is a no-brainer in the lovely town of Lawton, where 2 out of every 3 restaurants, it would seem, peddles some sort of Asian flavor. AJ Pilipinas Restaurant has been around, by the owner's accounting, for 10 years. It has the burdensome status of being the only provider of Filipino food in the whole state. It is then difficult for a Filipino, who happens to spend his winter breaks home in LA stuffing himself full of Filipino food to keep him through the culinary drought when working in Oklahoma, to be impartial with this establishment. But here goes. Setup has been previously described. The small room contains a very humble market (a two-sided standing shelf, and a wall shelf full of canned/bottled/packed goods that constitute the basic accoutrements of a well-stocked Filipino kitchen) in one corner. An equally humble dining area of four or so plastic tables and chairs. And in another corner, we have a display area with (by my hazy memory) 10 warmer platters with different entrees (although I prefer the more traditional translation of "ulam" into the rather snooty "viand", which etymologically signals the centerpiece: meat). FOOTNOTE: this is a setup all Filipino expats should recognize. What we have here is a Sarisari store (literally, many-many, but better translated into Store of Plenty, or even cornucopia... a miscellanery if you will) and a turoturo (literally, point-point, referring to how customers choose food in family-owned restaurants all over the islands). The food is criminally cheap: heaping portions of your choice of 3 of the entrees, and 3 scoops of rice. All this for $6.99, which ultimately amounted to 3 different meals for this rather rapacious consumer of food. (There is, of course, no telling how much the owner was banking on making of me a repeat customer by giving me an unusually generous helping of her food.) I got (1) Filipino curry (thick and silky, without a hint of spice... a classic preparation), (2) Pochero (insufficiently annatto-ed into the traditional orange, but tasting precisely as it should), and (3) Menudo (heavy on liver, which I would like to guess is a northern Filipino predilection, but one which I enjoyed nonetheless). (I hesitate to add I also got the leche flan, which was very bland.) All in all, this is the work of a versed but average Filipino cook. No standouts among the dishes. They were all things that, on a good day, even this minimally schooled compatriot could aspire to making at home. However, we are not in California with a Max's in every major city. Nor are we in NYC where the Cebuanos at Tito Rad's can fire up their grills for their signature tuna belly after a short ride on the 7. This is all we got. And I, personally, am deeply thankful for this no-frills slice of home. read more
