Been here a few times and decided to hold off on writing my review in hopes that the food (especially the service) got better but I'm still not impressed. Don't get me wrong, this is a nice restaurant and the staff has always been very friendly, but it's definitely not the best Peruvian cuisine I've had. The last time I had their Arroz Chaufa, it was hard and lacked flavor (sorry!) and the Lomo Saltado, although very flavorful, was filled with tomatoes and onions and barely any meat or French fries. The causa is OK and their Chicha Morada is way too sweet. The Papa Rellena and Anticuchos are very good and their Pollo Saltado is very tasty. Service is something that has always been the same: slow! Just like the other reviews, a few times I've gone inside and have waited 10-15 mins to be served. Overall, it is a good restaurant and I'm sure they'll be around for a long. read more

Delicious! We were so happy to have found this little gem tucked into a less than ideal location. Ooltewah is seriously lacking in good ethnic food and we have been on a search for some since we moved a few months ago. Aji will now be on our short list of go-to places. We had the beef heart app...o.m.g. SO good & tender!! Hubs had the sampler entre, everything on the plate was great! I had the beef entre that had an over easy egg on top...delicious! The kids are boring & wanted the usual chicken and fries. The chicken "tenders" are made in house and are not the usual fare...they are thin slices of breast meat marinated & breaded with a tin, crunchy, flavorful batter. They were delicious too! Also, the prices were reasonable, about $8-12 for entrees. We will be back. A lot. read more

I use to eat here more often until they changed their portion sizes to a very small amount and kept their prices the same as expensive as they have been. I think their prices have always been too high. Food tastes good, but it's not worth the small portion sizes. I haven't eaten their in months and probably won't return. read more

I admit to being a glutton. Now that that's out of the way, the food here was all I hoped for after seeing the pictures and hearing the reviews. Empanadas- cheese, tofu, chicken, all wonderful. I think the cheese and spinach were my favs. I had a beef stew-seco norteño- but also tried a coworker's vegan main dish- seco criollo I think. Both fantastic. I was expecting a bowl of stew with sides of rice and beans but it comes on one big plate & is light on stew. Rice was on point. As a note, they make the vegetarian protein in-house. For dessert, I didn't realize my boss ordered cookies, alfajores, so I got the corn pudding, mazamorra morada. The pudding's size was bigger than expected (that's what she said), and it was more like a hot compote. It was the perfect amount of sweetness for me. I would have been happy with an appetizer and the dessert. The cookie caramel sandwich crumbled beautifully and would have been perfect with coffee. Next time I go I will remember to take pictures before gorging. The plates were as pretty as the pictures posted. Others at the table ordered the three meat combo and the macchu pichu sandwich. This is one of those reviews I hate writing, but I'm going to anyway in the hopes that the restaurant will read it and try to improve... No doubt about it, the food is really good--probably 4 to 4.5 stars good. Service really needs some work though--probably 1.5 stars and that only because it was friendly. I was seated at ~6:32p, about 20 min before the rush hit. No one so much as looked at me until 6:45, at which time a girl who I think was more dedicated to the kitchen came to take my order. I assumed that someone would then be back with water, but was mistaken. At 6:50, I finally walked up to the guy at the counter (the host/primary server?) and asked for water. At 7p I still hadn't gotten any despite the fact that he'd been past my empty table several times to help other customers. I flagged him down, asked again, and finally got something to drink half an hour after sitting down. Really inexcusable, though I'll admit that service towards the end of the meal was a little more prompt. The food started coming out about 10 min later, and things began looking up. I started with the ceviche, continued with the sampler (Ají de Gallina, Seco Norteño, and Pollo Saltado), and finished with flan. Ceviche was really good with lots of big pieces of fresh-tasting fish, lots of acidity, and pretty spicy (as I ordered it). Sadly I wasn't a fan of the Ají de Gallina, their signature dish, as I thought the taste and texture of the sauce seemed dominated by flour...but perhaps that's just my personal taste. The Seco Norteño and Pollo Saltado were fantastic though, cooked nicely and with great spices, and so I'd still call sampler a success. The flan was to die for--truly a must if you're into heavy custard. Price-wise I think it's fair--not quite cheap since you probably need to order more than one item if you're hungry, but it seems like you're getting pretty good ingredients, well-prepared. I think I'll give it one more try and hope that tonight was just a fluke. I can tolerate/understand the 25 minutes between ordering and receiving food in a small restaurant where things are prepared fresh, but the long time to order and inattention during the wait should really be addressed. With better service this would be a rave review. read more

Found this resturant thru Yelp, and what a delight. Since we were simply travelling thru, this saved us from another boring chain meal. Spicy ceviche was superb. Also had stuffed potato, and for the entre shared a Peruvian sampler plate. Desert was a shortbread cookie filled with dulce de leche. Now this is a place everyone in Tennessee who is craving Peruvian food should go. This has got to be some of the best Peruvian food I have ever eaten at a restaurant! The shopping center where the place is located may look a little run down, but don't judge the book by it's cover! It's a hole in the wall but heck yes it's an awesome one! The inside of the restaurant is pretty clean. The decor gives you a friendly, positive kind of vibe. Staff is very friendly as well and kind. Over here they have something that I have never seen before: Glass bottled Inca Cola! It tastes better then the canned variety and It's very classy! Now to talk about the food. First of I tried some of their empanadas. They were amazing! It was hot and fresh and this is a legit authentic Peruvian empanada and it is definitely one of the best I have ever tasted! Also had tried their anticuchos and oh my gosh they were out of this world! I also had a plate of various food, Peruvian chicken, rice, and plantains. All was amazing! For desert we all shared some alfajores and picarones. These deserts are to die for! If you are reading this review, and you want some real, authentic Peruvian food, this is the place! Delicious! We got the Sureno a Lo Pobre (withe vegetarian meat) and the Bistec a la Pobre (with chicken). Both came with delicious rice, plantains, and spicy aji sauce. The sauce is amazing. I'm vegetarian and my partner isn't, and I loved that there were options for both of us. The staff is very kind and helpful. One of the best restaurants I've been to in East Tennessee! read more

The only gave three stars because I had been here soon after opening. Portions were small but tasty. Large budget (?). There was another table with small children near me. So high chairs are there. In need of music and/or more(?), umph in the atmosphere. The owner was also my hostess, cook and cashier. Like I'd mentioned, new and starting up. I was a bit disappointed there wasn't much "flavor" of Peruvian crusine. Itsl isn't hard to season baked chicken with rice and beans with some type of Peruvian Flavoring. My papa appetizer was not any better than mine, not close. I once was married to one for over 7 yrs learning the authentic ways, styles (flavoring) and preparing.There's plenty of options on the menu. Locals from the nearby college with a vegan diet are adapted well here. I noticed several take out orders. There were also several tables outside. I'm looking forward to another visit. read more
