This has been one of the best places I've ever done business with. New in town looked they up on the Internet and within an hour of finding the place My son was out riding his bike . Very very helpful also put on a flag for him . The price for the repair was very reasonable also . 3/13/2021 --- I am writing to express my sincere thanks to AJO Bikes, especially staffperson Kris, who helped me and my girlfriend pick out new bicycles. Kris listened well and made sure that we got bikes that are suitable for our needs and ones that are properly sized. He also helped pick out accessories that I wanted (bag and bag carrier, pedal straps, and bike rack for the car). He scheduled a specific time for us to bring the car in so he could assemble and fit the bike rack for the car. He took care to make sure we knew how to place and lock the bikes into the rack. It was clear that he had a lot of experience with bike racks, having assembled numerous ones and having carried many bikes on trips. Ajo Bikes has changed owners and it is now a very different business. I had been an Ajo customer for 15 years having purchased five Catrike recumbents, two mountain bikes, and two hand-cycles. Prior to the ownership change I would rate there service as outstanding - now I am taking my cycles else where. I brought my hand-cycle in on Dec 3. The repair was promised to be complete by Friday Dec 7 or Monday Dec 10 at the latest and that they would call when the work was complete. By Wednesday Dec 12 I had not received any calls, so I called only to find that no work had started, they even had a hard time finding my hand-cycle. I picked up the hand-cycle and I am having it serviced else where. You'll notice the positive reviews occurred prior to the ownership change. read more

Amazing service by Leo who actually taught me how to ride a trike! He had me ride several different styles. The most comfortable for me was a recumbent Sunseeker trike with no handlebars --- steering was under the seat -- perfect for someone like me with shoulder and wrist problems. The only place in Tucson to specialize in adult trikes and recumbents. Trust me I called every bike store, Play It Again Sports and Walfart from Tucson to Sierra Vista. They have new and used bikes and a very good selection. They even have those pimp electric Polaris bikes, which come in sweet color mash ups. The trike brands that they carry are Terratrike (made in MI), Sun, Schwinn (not the model Walmart sells online-forget about finding a trike in an actual Walmart store), Cat and a few others. The people who work here are passionate about biking... but the man to see is Leo. This man actually taught me how to ride a bike- guaffaw all you want- I had a big fear and he had a big heart and a truck ton of patience. I literally could not steer an upright trike in anything other than a circle, had no control and felt like I was going to fall- yes, on a flipping three wheeled tricycle. I know, I am very svelte. He had me sit on each trike and I ended up with a recumbent trike by Sun, not at all what I went in for. There was no hard plastic seat jamming up my wazoo. Leo described it as a lawn chair with wheels... I sat in that bad boy and once Leo let go and I was peddling on my own with the wind in my hair (80's tunes played in my head and I was starring in my own MTV music video), I was sold. The bonus is, you can ride in comfort, so you get way more miles in. Plus, on a recumbent you have more stability. I found a coupon in the Tucson Weekly. The store also has tons of GPS systems, video systems, lights, bells, shoes, spandex (I was shocked no plus size spandex-jk), water bottles, camelbacks, skull and dice tire caps, wheel spokes, etc. The streamer selection is pretty pimp...from leather streamers to pearl ones to glitter. I also added on a sweet basket for my chihuahuas, which they installed. They sell cool basket liners as well (Hawaiian print, tie dyed, skull and cross bone)... They even have a hand carved coconut to attach to your bike to hold a beverage of choice. I highly recommend Ajo- see Leo- he is boss (not the boss, think the Lonely Island Song or Seth Rogan on SNL for the proper boss definition). Also, get a trike...people may chuckle, but inside they are so jealous their eyes are green. Free tune up after 30 days or so too. Now, I just need to decide the theme for which I am going to pimp my trike out in. FYI- they don't jack their prices up, it was the same as the manufacture price, so have trust in Ajo. However, for a quality bike, you will be paying anywhere from 300-3000 smackers. read more

This is a true neighborhood bicycle shop. The only thing missing is the neighborhood as it is on the decidedly pedestrian (and some might even say bicycle) UNFRIENDLY street known as Ajo Way. Years ago, I brought my old Schwinn 21-speed in to be serviced after years of it sitting in storage. They replaced the shifters and tuned everything as well as possible for a very reasonable price. I was very impressed with the friendliness, the service level, and the cost for the repairs. I have also purchased two new bicycles here. The first, for my wife, was an Amsterdam Balloon 8 cruiser. They took a lot of time to go over the different types of cruisers with my wife before ultimately special-ordering the Balloon 8. She still loves that bike. The second bike I bought here was earlier this year--to replace the old Schwinn I rode until it was stolen. I wanted a folding bike, and found that Ajo has the best selection of folding bikes in town, hands down. They specialize in carrying Dahon specifically. So I purchased a full-size folding 7-speed mountain-style bike which I use for my daily commuter. When I purchased the bike, they charged me $400 for it, telling me that while it was brand new, it was last year's model--online, I couldn't find the same bike for less than $500! When I purchased a new lock, a rear fender rack, and a new tail light along with the bicycle, I was given discounts on each of those items as well. Not saying this will always happen, but it gives a sense of the business ethic of this place. Heck, they even gave me a new head light mounting bracket as I still had the light but not the mount--for free! Selection is ridiculous here. They have regular street bikes, mountain bikes, folding bikes, BMX (and freestyle) bikes, cruisers, recumbants (sp?), and two-up street bikes. They also have utility trikes. And all the parts you can think of that might some day need replacing. All in all, I think if you are in the market for a bicycle, and want to shop around, hit this place last--as it will save you the trip of heading back after realizing it is the best in town. read more

Was in the market for a new mountain bike and stopped by on my lunch break. The shop was so littered with bikes that I couldn't even look at their selection of mountain bikes *which is super limited*. Test ride was completely out of the question because I was ignored the entire 15 minutes I was there. And there weren't even any customers at the counter! Struggled for 2 days with a defective wheel, my new tires / tubes wouldn't go on. Turned out the front rim was bad. Chet picked out just a new, correct 27" Aluminum whl., added 2 thorn resistant tubes, mounted them presto. They fit together perfectly. I am one happy customer. I have purchased my bikes and had them serviced for over 20+ years. Ajo bikes use to be located on south 12th avenue at an old Cicle K building back in the 80's.,At that time, They serviced all law enforcement bikes for Pima County Sheriff's and TPD bike unit for years. A lot of retired law Enforcement still buy and service their bikes there. They also give discounts for local agencies. They are now located on Ajo Way and Benson Hwy. it is a great location to test ride all their bikes. The staff is very knowledgable and helpful to beginners as well as experts. I've been to several bike shops around town, depending on where i have broke down riding. Many have closed their doors and many are chain. I rather keep my $ local, in a home grown bike shop. It is worth the drive from 20 miles out to service my bikes. You won't be disappointed. A Tucson legend. Keep it Tucson local. read more

What a great shop. Takes me back to the bike shops of my childhood. Stacked to the rafters with all sorts of bike miscellany. If I can't get it at Ajo, it likely does not exist in Pima county. They are the only consistent source of spokes, in all lengths, that I have found. They always laugh when I call to ask if they have a certain length of spoke and they say "yeah, we have it, and if not, we'll make some up for you!" Great for finding those oddball parts that nobody else has. read more

I just picked up my Catrike from Ajo bikes after a maintenance check. It looks brand spanking new. The tune up made it ride so smooth, and it looks like it was detailed ! shiny everywhere. The service was AAA +. All the staff are super nice. They spent 45 minutes with me showing me adjustments on my bike, and how to use a set of bike tools( that I had purchased at another store).
