Blackened shrimp salad was very flavorful!

My wife saw AJs on our drive into Cape Charles. Checked it out on Yelp and figured it would be a good spot for a casual family lunch. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We were seated upstairs in a comfortable booth.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service was solid throughout the meal, our waitress was personable and professional. On a whim, I ordered a dozen oysters because I had seen them being carried into the restaurant as we arrived. Can't beat that freshness! It was fun to have family members try oysters for the first time or the first time in a while. I certainly loved the quality! I also enjoyed a nicely prepared blackened shrimp salad. Everyone at the table enjoyed their lunch. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Definitely a nice place to eat in Cape Charles![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Fun spot we haven't visited before.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The US Women's Soccer Team was playing for the gold so we took a few hours out of our day to have a light lunch and watch the game. We ordered beverages of course. IPA for my husband and a dark and stormy for me. For food we ordered the shrimp quesadilla, which was tasty. It could use some pico on the side. The description said it was on the quesadilla but all I tasted was shrimp, bacon and cheese. Don't get me wrong, it was really good. I'd eat it again and order jalapeños and pico on the side with it. My husband got the oysters. They were good too. The bartender was really nice and watched a little bit of the game when she could so we could talk about it. I really liked this place and will be back.

Ed won a round of music bingo!! Super fun night!

We ended up here after a disappointing experience at another popular local restaurant we had been to for years. We'll just say, this is our new place! Can't say enough good things about the Bayside Nachos! Service was beyond amazing. Definitely give it a try!

Everything was great! Very friendly with great service! The scallop po boy special with waffle fries was delicious. We had the shrimp quesadillas that hit the spot. I had the house salad with house made balsamic and ranch. The chicken and dumplings soup was very yummy. A great dinning experience. We will be back.

We went there past 9 PM, hungry and craving for some good food, (I was craving a good burger) They did NOT disappoint at all.. service was on point had a great hazy IPA, AJ's Smashed burgers, our friends got steak and cheese and a wedge salad with clam chowder soup and everyone left so happy and more than satisfied. Loved the service, everyone was so friendly. I highly recommend!

The best hamburger I've ever had in my life and that covers a lot of burgers. The fries were also delicious, as was the homemade ranch and burger sauce. It was an amazing lunch. If you are in Cape Charles, this place is a must.

    Chicken sandwich with bacon

Other than a small issue with the hostess forgetting to add us to the list, the food and our waitress were great. It was a busy night but we still had pretty quick service. We ordered the chili nachos, smash burger, and a chicken bacon sandwich. The food was super flavorful and we will definitely be back on a less busy night.

When we came last year, it seemed like they were having an off night. We came today, however, and this will be our last visit. Our bill was over 100 (2 adults and 1 child, water to drink), and had the most disappointing food ever. Everything was incredibly bland, to the point of almost inedible. We began with a half-dozen order of oysters, which had very little meat. Even more frustrating was how they were served - they were full of shells mixed into the meat and dry (all the water had been dumped out), which meant that the people shucking did not know how to properly shuck an oyster. The crunch of the shells also made for an unpleasant eating experience. The lobster rolls had absolutely no flavor. I have never not finished a lobster roll in my life, but about halfway through I just gave up. We wanted to order crab cakes, but they were out (note that they've been out on our last several visits - this time we were there right when they opened, so they could not have run out). The children's chicken tenders appeared to have come straight out of the freezer. The Caesar salad was tasteless. I ordered the local vegetables and was given the option of Brussel sprouts or broccolini (these have been the options every time I've visited no matter the season). I was disappointed, since there is great produce on the Eastern Shore in the middle of July, none of which includes the fall/spring produce of Brussel Sprouts or Broccolini. The Broccolini wasn't cooked, but appeared to have been warmed while doused in olive oil (but no salt or other seasonings). The middle was still cold. We saw our server only a few times when she took our order and dropped off our food. Someone else dropped off the oysters, and dropped the oyster fork on the floor. She picked it up, apologized, and promised to return but we never saw her again so had to eat the oysters with the forks we had used for the caesar salad (not the best combination). The oysters weren't great to begin with, so it probably didn't make much difference. I'm disappointed in the Shanty, and disappointed at how much we spent on such a mediocre meal. I won't return.

While walking along Mason Avenue, I made reservations at The Shanty, and it turned out to be a great choice. The restaurant is just a short stroll from the main shopping area, down by the docks. You can park for free along Mason Avenue or drive directly to The Shanty, which has its own parking lot. One of the highlights was enjoying fresh seafood on the open-air porch with beautiful waterfront views. The atmosphere was relaxed, charming, and perfectly summery. They also had plenty of options for the kids, including mac and cheese and chicken fingers, so everyone was happy. I ordered the fish tacos, while my mom enjoyed the seafood chowder and a wedge salad. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and exactly what we were hoping for after a day exploring Cape Charles. If you're visiting the area and looking for a casual waterfront meal with great seafood, a family-friendly menu, and a fun coastal vibe, The Shanty is definitely worth a visit.

From the moment you walk in, you're greeted by a whimsical, nautical meets industrial interior. Think exposed brick, quirky elephant and octopus artwork, and cozy seating that feels both inviting and upscale. It's the kind of place where you'll want to linger over your meal and soak in the unique ambiance. As for the food, it did not disappoint. I started with the Ale & Onion Soup, and wow. This was comfort in a bowl! The robust flavor of Guinness melded perfectly with the caramelized onions, and the bubbling gruyère on the toasted bread points just took it over the top. It was savory, rich, and perfect for the chilly day. My friend went for the She Crab Soup, and couldn't stop raving about it. Creamy and absolutely packed with local crab meat. The puffed oyster crackers and a sprinkle of Old Bay were the ultimate finishing touch. I managed to sneak a bite, and it was heavenly! We also asked the bartender for a fun cocktail, and they whipped up a bright, lemony drink that was as refreshing as it was beautiful. It was perfectly balanced and not too sweet, served with a citrus twist. Service was great. Friendly, attentive without hovering, and happy to make recommendations. If you're in Cape Charles and looking for a spot that nails both food and atmosphere, you can't go wrong here. Already planning my next visit!

I'm not entirely sure how to write this review. I think everyone here is very well-intentioned and…read moreI don't want to speak negatively about a business the owners are clearly extremely passionate about so please know this is purely describing my experience. Let me start with this: Pane E Vino has the unique distinction of being the first restaurant in thirty-four years to have a waitress who made me cry. I don't think this was her intention, but I wasn't expecting to get shamed (roasted? Aggressively judged?) for my choice of wine. Listen, I have my reasons. I could only have one glass of wine, and I wanted it to be one I liked. But when I ordered a glass of their Pinot grigio, the waitress made a disgusted face and was pretty forceful in suggesting something else. She said the Pinot grigio was not good. Scrunched her face and shook her head. I stammered for a bit and reluctantly agreed to a different wine. When I tried it, it was not what I wanted or liked, and I was embarrassed to have been called out so aggressively and wasted my one glass, so I went to go cry in their restroom (which was very clean, +1.) When I returned, a glass of the Pinot grigio was at my seat because my husband is an angel who can read the room. Our server did not ask how I liked the replacement, but didn't charge for the forced glass, so eh. Okay. I reset my mood in preparation to receive our steak, octopus, and mussels. This seems to be a place where there ARE right and wrong orders. The chef asked how we wanted our steak and we said medium rare. Personally, I like more medium, my husband prefers rare. We compromise like pros. The chef seemed to prefer the "rare" temp so our steak came out nearly raw. My husband said it was the perfect steak, so if this was his review, you may be hearing a different story. But friends, I'll attach a picture. There is no land where that steak was cooked to the temp we asked for. I ate three of the shrimp from the top, which were fine (my husband said "a little chewy.") The octopus was good, but certainly a sharing portion, so not very much. Don't count on it to be a meal, but that's implied. The mussels were well flavored, but quite crunchy. We agreed that they were not rinsed out properly or something-- they had a ton of grit and some significant little pearl-like chunks in them. At this point we were just wanting to leave, so we didn't mention it. In summary, I cried, my husband liked the steak, and we went straight from here to somewhere else to get me some dinner.

This is my second time dining and both times, were lovely…read more This time - we enjoyed the burrata, octopus, pasta and mussels. All were excellent, fresh, nice flavors, not too salty, just perfect. The octopus in particular was probably the best I have ever had - so tender! The owners - are a fantastic duo.
