*Racist establishment* I truly wish I could give this place…read morezero stars. The outside of the bar was covered in patriotic symbols and branches of the military. I walked in, and the entire room seemed to stop. People turned and stared. I smiled at a few of them, hoping to break the tension, but they just kept staring. I sat down at the bar and waited quietly -- five, maybe ten minutes. I had no problem being patient as I understand bartenders can get busy. But while I sat there, I watched her serve others, chat with regulars, and even tell one that she'd just given him some fresh drinks. She continued cleaning her bar but never once acknowledged me. Not even a "Hi" or "I'll be right with you." Then she poured herself a Red Bull into her personal cup, walked right past me, and struck up a friendly conversation with the man next to me -- loud and casual -- asking if he was "golfing this weekend." That made it clear: she wasn't going to serve me. As a BLACK veteran, that moment hit hard. This bar, with all its patriotic décor, made it clear that their version of "supporting the troops" doesn't include people like me. I didn't serve my country to protect ignorance or racism -- especially not from those who wrap themselves in the flag while looking down on others. This place can take their support and shove it where the sun doesn't shine.

Great service. Great history and even better ambiance…read more As a former service member the meaning behind the bar itself hits a little more but still a great place to grab a drink or 6 after a nice long day or a deployment.

Ordered drinks and a large pizza, half plain; half peppers and pepperoni, extra thin crust. Look, we are from NY so, yeah, we are a little pizza snobby. But, tbh, this pizza was really tasty! Was it brick oven neapolitan worthy? No, but this isn't a brick oven joint and doesn't claim to be. Full disclosure: we drove by the Deadrise in Cape Charles and had no patience for an hour wait. And that, too, was understandable. It was Friday night, Memorial Day weekend! The staff here was warm and welcoming, crowd was friendly, we liked watching the pool players and left happy and full. Recommend!

After crossing it was getting close to noon and again I investigated another place, this one. After reading a couple reviews and viewing some pics, after all I am a dive connoisseur, I needed to stop here on my way north. After navigating US13 I found the place, just how it appeared on line. Made my way inside and from the moment I entered I knew it was a locals and I was welcomed. I started with a Rolling Rock in a bottle not an oil can. Not even looking at the menu I ordered a cheeseburger and fries. The bartender even read some specials to me but no I didn't take her advice. She had mentioned spaghetti and meatballs w/garlic bread. The burger take a bit to cook, it was a fat one. The burger arrived and it looked great w/LTO. Then someone ordered the special and it came out. Don't get me wrong the burger was grand but I did just have a burger the day before and spaghetti and meat balls looked better. Next time I'll listen. The burger was cooked properly and the fries were crisp and puffy. I would order again for sure. Lesson learned, take the special when out of town. Peace.

At least three couples at the bar out of five gave us side-eyed views, then whispered like the kids in second grade do. Whatever. We sat at the bar and the bartender, who looked to had been there since the place opened, took about 10 minutes to get to us. She wasn't busy and nobody was ordering anything, she was just at the other end of the bar... pondering life? Anyway, we eventually got our beers and sat down at a wobbly, sticky table by the door. The place is quiet as a cemetery and there really isn't much to look at. There is a diner set up on the other side of the room which was completely empty, thus contributing to the overall ambiance. A few minutes later another couple walked in and sat down at the bar. They asked the bartender a question I didn't hear and she replied "I don't know nothing about nothing." Then she walked away. A group of four walked in, each of them having some severe medical ailment, and slowly scanned the place with squinted eyes. One of them said through a few layers of phlegm "They got sandwiches over here," and they all proceeded to maneuver their walkers in the direction of the diner side. We left about 30 seconds afterwards. I give it 2 stars for the entertainment value it has but that's all you'll find worth checking out.
