It was so tender and I just use a little Sriracha and a big Sapporo and I'm a happy camper! Just got in town on business, had an OK lunch nearby we had a craving for sushi so we opted for AKA. Wow. Just. Wow. Stopped in from out of town. Wound up eating there two out of the three nights and would have gone the third if my friends had let me. Everything was delish. I give AKA Sushi a 4.5 as it is the best sushi I can get that is anywhere near where I live and they do a decent job presenting a selection of common rolls and sashimi selections that I can't get without driving to the Detroit area or Ann Arbor. I've had most of their rolls and sashimi selections- all tasted fresh and were prepared in an authentic fashion, the ginger salad is a very generous portion, the miso soup is excellent. I was underwhelmed by their chicken teriyaki bento box, and they need to do a little work on their rice-mine was cold and dry on a couple of occasions, but other than that, I am always eager to return. I'm not the biggest sushi eater so sometimes want a Japanese entree and some miso soup. This was the case on this particular visit. The sushi bar looked great but I really wanted soup, rice and protein. If you eat beef, I highly recommend the Beef Wrapped Asparagus appetizer. A serving of this and rice could be a meal itself. My main was Chicken Teriyaki. It arrive well seasoned and most. So often teriyaki chicken breast are dry and basted in thick sauce to give flavor AKA's sauce and as light and could have been omitted given how succulent the chicken breast was. This charming little spot was a place right off the highway, which I happened to see while stopping off for gas. The front doesn't quickly shout "awesome sushi", but once you open the door, you may be presently surprised. On a Friday night around 5:30, the place was close to being full, so I took a seat at the sushi bar. Immediately I was attended to by a server who took my order for drink with menus in hand. I am a sushi snob so while not expecting much, was pleasantly surprised that service and food service was quick and looked elegant. I was then asked how my food was a few times a something I feel has been lacking even at the best restaurants. Sushi quality is above par and the portions more than filling. BEWARE - some of the pictures on their order site look nothing like what we picked up. So the food at AKA is always decent. The server was probably having an off day. She put in my wife's order wrong and when she double checked with me she put on of my rolls in wrong. The decor is minimal, everything is white with accents, gave me a nice feeling. I had the Tuna and avocado roll and a giant scallop nigori, the scallop is like eating a cloud, I considered it my dessert . I was surprised they actually had the sea scallop, most places give you bay scallops, that's 2 totally different textures and tastes. My neice ordered the Salmon & Avocado roll. She was very happy. Edamame portion size was sufficient, however, providing a salt grinder rather than a shaker would have added the finishing touch that it was lacking. Los Vegas 2 roll was different but delicious! Overall the food here is terrible. Surprised the reviews are as good as they are. We got two rolls, Vegas crunch and tiger and both of which were extremely mushy. The tiger had spicy tuna, topped with salmon and it was so fishy. We've been twice now and feel like after two attempts we can give an honest review. The edamame was good if that helps. read more

I am not the right person to analyze this business, as an event in Ann Arbor had a great Sushi Reputation. I sat with 10 young people who were thrilled by the beautiful California rolls and treats. I saw a small bowl of one of my favorite foods, Guacamole!! I scooped it on my plate, took a big spoon of it, only to find, it was extremely Hot, and I have some digestive problems with hot and spicy foods! It was actually Wasabi! I ran to the bathroom, just in time to throw up. My face was beet red! I came back to the table, to find all of the College students laughing! I wasn't amused. I walked in to place my to go order. I knew I wanted to try my friend's favorite roll, which is the Crunch Vegas, but I wanted another roll, I just didn't know what one. I'm so glad I walked in! The employees up front were seriously so good to me. It was a guy and 2 girls. I told them I was newer to sushi and wondered if they had any suggestions of could help me. They didn't get annoyed with me, they didn't roll their eyes or deep sigh, they didn't even act like they were too busy, (which they could've easily done since it was an hour til closing). They smiled and they asked me what I like and don't like and narrowed it down for me! Their customer service alone had me convinced this place is worth coming to. Crunch Vegas: so so good! I can see why it's my friend's favorite. Maki 7: my new favorite sushi roll. Ever. I literally want to go get some right now just thinking about it lol. I have been a customer of AKA for over two years when I am in Jackson on business. I frequently DoorDash, and occasionally dine in. Tonight was my second evening dining in. Earlier in the week, late lunch was superb. Tonight was a different story. My nigiri was served with a piece that had a fruit fly spread eagle on top. Additionally, I battled fruit flies to protect my dinner and sake from their attack. Ewwwe. I called it to my servers attention and all she offered was to remake it. At meals end, no apologies and no adjustment even when I commented on this being the first time I encountered the fly problem and that I was disappointed. Pretty poor customer service.
