Came here on a random weekday for lunch. It's located in the scarsdale plaza where a bunch of restaurants are. Akai looked very spacious and upscale so we decided to give it a try. Parking is paid meters for the plaza. We weren't too hungry so only got one appetizer and two entrees. Our server was very nice, service was efficient and nothing to complain about. The restaurant was big and plenty of open spots without a reservation. Our food was ok, sort of what you would expect for an asian fusion place in the middle of a predominantly caucasian town. I think most people in the town would probably have enjoyed this more than we did. Sushi was good, fresh and lots of varieties. Overall we thought it was good with everything taken together, ambiance more so than the food. Appreciate the service though! read more

Akai is a much better Asian place in the heart of Scarsdale compared to other spots in the village. The service is friendly, the vibe is chill and the food is tasty! My only complaint is that it is pricey for what it is. I know it's pricey because of the neighborhood but it's not fancy enough to be this pricey! read more

Solid spot with a trendy, cool vibe. The sushi was decent--fresh enough, but nothing spectacular. They messed up my order (Tuna Cucumber roll), but they did bring out a side of cucumber to make up for it. Unfortunately, however, the cucumber had hair in it, but I guess it's the thought that counts... The only saving grace was my dad's hibachi steak--crazy affordable, and he said it was really tender and flavorful. After completing some business errands in the city, me and my wife decided to stop by here for our a lunch. It was a weekday and I always like less crowded places. The ambiance of this place its a bit upscale than the norm, and the staffs are well trained and were professional. My wife love rolls and sushi while I prefer chicken meat thus I got the katsu lunch box. We had some salads too for our sides and these work perfectly. I tried out some of the rolls she ordered and I like it. The prep of my katsu is good too. I would definitely visit this place again and will try the other dish on their menu. My partner and I got a late weekday omakase and ended up having the room with Harry all to ourselves. There were only a few other parties in the restaurant. If you're doing omakase, definitely get the appetizers. They were some of the most interesting dishes we had during the meal. We liked the sushi omakase, too, but they were very similar to each other (torched, same spiciness). That being said, the fish were all very fresh and nicely presented, and there was an abundance of uni, my fave. The rolled up in seaweed and shiso leaf as well as the mildly sweet egg custard cubes at the end were also a nice touch. I'd skip the cocktails. The menu is enticing, but they were mostly ice, and not the best Japanese whisky. We also got a negori sake, which was not the actual one we ordered - we realized too late - and the waitress didn't know to shake the bottle. VERY SHORT STAFFED I was very disappointed in how easily they get "slammed". They were only at half capacity (empty inside, full outside) and only had 3 people (including the manager) working in the kitchen. I asked for the sushi to come out as an appetizer. Instead, we got our mains first and had to wait an additional 15 minutes before we got our sushi appetizers. The miso cod is amazing but the broccoli always comes out cold (fresh out of the refrigerator) The manager came over and apologized but did nothing to make amends. Came here on a Friday evening and sat at the bar with my son. Everything is socially distance and there is outdoor heated dining available. We enjoyed all of our dishes. Everything was fresh and tasty and my son especially loved the chicken teriyaki. He ate all of the edamame in one go. The bartender made a great old-fashioned. Made a reservation for an outdoor table on a perfect Thursday night and it was a good thing - outside was packed! The interior is clean and very trendy - a big big change from the previous deli that used to be housed there. Service was nonexistent when we first arrived. It took a good 25 minutes before anyone came over so we could order drinks, but from then on it was spot on. Water glasses were regularly filled and our waiter Ace was exceptionally friendly and helpful. The food is amazing. The fish is fresh and flavorful and the options are vast. Everything we had was amazing, but the Chef John's special app was beyond! Absolutely the best thing of the night and so different than anything any of us had ever tasted. We will definitely be back. New favorite sushi restaurant! Beautiful modern decor with gold utensils & velvet walls! Good and friendly service. The cocktails were both beautiful and very well balanced (white orchid & lychee sangria). The Blue Point Oysters were a nice size and so fresh! And the chef John special app was also delicious and great presentation. Now of course the best part was the sushi. The goodfellas roll which was Toro and spicy yellowtail was so delicious. Attention to detail with sliver of lemon on top. The lobster roll was a bit lackluster compared to the rest of food but still fine. And the chef special sushi dinner was just stunning and probably my favorite sushi meal to date. It's hard to find a decent omakase in Westchester but this hit it out of the park. Each fish was explained and had a topping that wasn't overwhelming. I wish I had two of each! It is pricey but totally worth it. 100% recommend! read more

Fresh fish and some pretty unique rolls. Their Chilean sea bass is delicious as an appetizer, entree, or part of their numerous rolls incorporating the Chilean sea bass. The rosy seabass is a must get. The spicy scallop is also yummy. Some other rolls that have been pretty good are the Green Monster Roll and the Goodfellas Roll. The quality of the Koi Roll seems to fluctuate, sadly, between being amazing/favorite and mediocre. Conceptually, the Latin Roll sounds interesting and flavorful, but it was pretty dry and lacking. Weirdly, their Alaskan rolls are with cooked salmon instead of raw, which I suppose works for those of you/your friends/your family who don't do raw fish (or can't do raw fish for you pregnant readers!) - they also have a whole section of "not ready for raw fish" rolls section. read more

Overly excited when I stepped into this place and saw the brass fixtures and velvet hot pink wall. Not only is Alkai a super cute and trendy restaurant, their sushi is delicious and meticulously assembled. Came here for the first time after passing by several times in the area. They are doing takeout however they do still offer indoor seating. I was pleasantly surprised that the restaurant was close to being empty when I decided to dine in because I'm still a little weary about indoor dining during covid. There were only about two other tables taken in the whole restaurant, but it quickly Picked up as the night went on and more people started occupying the space. Now to the food-I ordered the spicy crab salad, pan fried pork dumplings, viper roll, and Lange's roll. The spicy crab salad was delicious, spicy, crunchy, and they gave you a great amount which can easily be shared by two people. The dumplings were also delicious and crispy. Now on to the rolls- they have a huge menu which ranges from regular basic rolls to specialty rolls and even rolls that don't include raw seafood if raw fish aint your thing. Also included on the menu is meals for the non sushi fans, like teriyaki chicken, steak and beef dishes with noodles. The waiters were great and the food and presentation was perfect. I'm definitely a big vibe person and I can see this restaurant flourishing in the summers(when covid is long gone of course). We ordered from here for NYE at home. We were craving fancy sushi since we haven't been to the city in months. The restaurant looks like a nice addition to the village and the staff were very nice when I made my order a day in advance, since they said they often hit capacity on take out orders. I wasn't blown away by what we had, particularly because they used a ton of rice. I ended up removing a lot of from each bite since it was overwhelming and at the end of my meal had enough rice for another meal. We ordered the Bassterd, OMG, spicy salmon, Lange, and devils advocate. OMG was the best because of flavor and quality. I asked to swap the mango on the Lange's roll for red tobiko which they said would be an upcharge of $1, but they charged me $2. I know it isn't a big deal in the grand scheme of things but that kind of mistake shows they have a lot to smooth over. The beef negimaki was delicious but by the time we got home was cold (10 min drive). Wish it had been packaged better to keep warm. I would come back for the beef dish alone, but will wait until COVID is behind us so I can eat in person. read more

AKAI recently opened their newest restaurant in Scarsdale' on Spencer Place. They took over the recently vacant space that had been the popular Lange's Deli. While losing Langes which had been a popular lunch and pizza restaurant, for almost 47 years,AKAI Scarsdale promises to be a wonderful addition providing excellent sushi and helping to bring more of our community to dine in town. My wife and I stopped by shortly after they had their soft opening on November 6th and while the workers were still putting finishing touches, we could appreciate how this restaurant will do well even during our new life with the Coronavirus. They have outside seating with electric heaters that are attached under their awnings as well as seating g within the restaurant. They are offering a lunch as well as a dinner menu! read more

After taking a break from eating-in at Akai (we have been ordering takeout) due to poor service and a fruit fly issue indoors, we have returned a few times over the last few weeks. The food is hit or miss (mostly a hit) but tonight the tuna roll included in my chef special sushi order was inedible. Dark red in color with an abundance of the white stringy connective tissue. It was mushy but lean to the point that it tasted fishy in an off putting manner. A sushi chef should know better than to serve this and especially not in a "Chef's Choice" $60 dish. Service here is also always a mystery as to how the night will unfold. Highlights (or rather lowlights) from my most recent visit were: 1) serving my wife and daughter their dinner and having me sit and wait 15 minutes for my sushi (the manager saw what was going on and went to the sushi counter to get my order) and 2) finishing my water halfway through my meal with no one bothering to refill or check in to see if anything was needed (although the servers did have time to congregate at the bar area and watch videos on their phones). Not that hard to time a meal correctly folks. The problem here is that they have no training to know it is an issue in the first place. Oh, and the Zevo bug traps only work if you regularly change the interior cartridges. After once again shooing fruit flies from our table, I peeked in the trap when I went to the bathroom and it was absolutely at capacity. read more

First time at Akai and it was a wonderful experience. I had known the space as Lange's deli and had not been in it since Akai moved in. I was stunned. The space is beautiful, sophisticated, roomy, beautiful. Our waiter was Angel, and he really was an angel guiding us through the menu, answering all our questions with a smile, delivering our food with gusto. The food was excellent! Love this place. Great decor reminiscent of 1920s jazz age w gold rods on the chairs n lighting, beautiful tables and silverware. The food and the variety of the rolls are great! The dinner menus, inc teriyaki and udon are really delicious, great appetizers as well. The staff and servers are super nice. Really awesome addition to the Scarsdale town center. We went today for the first visit and my wife and I left reasonably satisfied. We order an early dinner of all sashimi, which included hamachi, salmon, baby hamachi, tuna both maguro and toro, in addition to eel and uni sushi. Cold saki accompany the whole meal and added an order of rock shrimp, the orders were well presented and fresh. The service was excellent. The size of the portions was small, too small. It was the only drawback comparing what the competition serves including in Manhattan, and in Japan were I have been several time's eating in many of the restaurants that are near the wholesale fish market of Tokyo. Recently moved to the area and this spot was one of the few open on the day I moved. I ordered over the phone for pick up. Food was excellent. At first I thought the teriyaki dinners were a bit expensive but my salmon dinner came with TWO huge filets.
