I am completely grossed out by this restaurant and will never return. They engage in highly unhygienic food handling and try to reuse old food. Incident 1 (Recent): We ordered edamame and asked for them to be boiled extra soft. They served them with the sauce completely burnt and charred. The waitress offered to remake them, but when she returned, she admitted the owner told her to just wash the burnt edamame with hot water and add a little sauce. We were so grossed out we tried to leave. We offered to pay for our untouched sodas, but they dishonestly charged us the full edamame price anyway. Incident 2 (Past): This isn't their first time reusing food. A while back, they gave us regular edamame instead of spicy on a to-go order. They told us to bring the food back the next day to fix it and verify we didn't eat the edemames. When we returned, they took our 25-hour-old edamame and re-cooked it. I had to argue for a fresh batch. When they finally remade it, the owner was angry and shorted our portion. Washing burnt food and reusing day-old returns is a massive health hazard. I will be filing a complaint with the Harris County. Save your money and your health--go somewhere else. read more

If you ever heard the adage, "Leave the past in the past!" that's exactly where we should have left this restaurant!" The food was deplorable! I ordered the Hibachi Steak and Chicken, with the steak being medium rare to medium. What I received was at best medium well to well done. To further exasperate the situation, the manager had a new steak cooked int he back and it was overcooked more than the previous. I sent that one back, as well! This was our second visit (12/20/24), previous visit was a couple months ago for lunch. We were very impressed with the food and chose to take our adult son for a nice dinner tonight. Me and my son ordered a chicken sushi roll and tempura shrimp for appetizer, Bento boxes for dinner. My husband opted for the all you can eat menu. The waitress was a little "snappy" when she advised my husband his food could not be taken as leftovers or shared. We were aware of this, as that's what he did on his lunch visit as well. Even though she was a bit harsh we kinda let the attitude roll off our back. She was pleasant after realizing her words were kinda rude. She apologized and told us we wouldn't believe how many people get mad at her claiming she never told them. We ate as much of the food as we could and both my son and I had leftovers. My husband cleaned all his little plates. I packaged my chicken, rice, spring roll, and crab puff (all included in the bento box) up for my son to enjoy as leftovers. We were waiting for the ticket when a lady walked up to the table and said something that did not process in my brain, so I asked if she would repeat, she pointed at my box and said I couldn't take the shrimp... I was lost and opened my box to see what shrimp she was asking about. My son had eaten all his tempura shrimp so I was sure I didn't have any. I HATE SEAFOOD! Shrimp would be the last thing I would pack up in a to go box. I however was not grasping she was accusing me of taking my husbands shrimp! As soon as I figured out she was saying I was stealing leftovers I lost it! I asked if she was insinuating I would pay $100 for food and steal from the 4 small shrimp my husband was served. He had cleaned his plates. He ate the 4 little shrimp! She insisted even after checking my container that I stole SHRIMP! I tossed my to go on the table and told her she could keep the leftovers and throw them away. I was embarrassed in front of my husband and child over what cost the establishment maybe $3. They were also willing to lose customers over that same $3. The best part is, the waitress came up to me in the entry way and asked what was said to upset me. Being city dwellers, we were pleasantly surprised by a few factors here. Foremost, the lunch specials are valid on Saturday, nice. But the price of getting a hibachi table top cooked meal for $10. For almost 20 years, we've been going to Akaihi on a weekly basis, and I can't properly describe how suddenly it has gone down! For starters, the wait staff - which for many years had been totally stable - has seen many new faces, most of whom don't know either the menu or the clientele. Also, those who have been retained are now in different stations, and no longer greet as they did. The feeling is gone... Next, the menu, which previously had THE BEST BENTO BOX SELECTIONS IN NW HARRIS COUNTY, has been reduced to very poor selections. Almost as though the Bento Box is now an afterthought! My late wife and I would stop in weekly for the Seafood Bento Box. Other selections, like the previous lunch offerings have been tossed out and crummy selections replaced them. Like many a restaurant that makes too many changes too fast, the new owners are beginning to see the rotten fruits of their own making. This is truly sad, as even though the prices have gone up by 15 to 20%, the original clientele stuck with them. Now, not so much. read more

The sushi I ordered: sushi combo with shaggy dog roll, Mizu roll, spicy edamame, and vegetable spring rolls. All of it was so basic that I could do better. They put my sashimi in between all the hot fried sushi so temperature was probably unsafe to even eat sashimi. This basic & cheap fake crab roll sucked so bad I could only eat 1 roll. Tasted like sugary and boring. The shaggy roll was fine but thrown together into a pile. The edamame was made wrong. Spicy edamame usually has garlic chili paste and not what looks to be Cajun seasoning powder lol. I wish I could get my money back ($50) because I could have gotten me and my family something actually edible. I will never go to this place again and I hope most of you do not either. If you like this place you got lucky, or you do not know what good sushi is supposed to taste like (no offense). Sushi chefs would prob throw up trying these rolls. read more

Came here for a quick lunch. The food is always good. The fried spicy Edamame was excellent. It spicy a n d fried with garlic...much better than the cold one. The salmon and white tail sashimi were very fresh. Which is of paramount importance when u eating sashimi. Both sushi rolls were good too. Not sure what else I can add. This place has continued to provide everything a sushi or hibachi fan could want. It's become a neighborhood institution and is packed on Fridays for happy hour and after. Service continues to be happily slow and personal, and the fish is still fresh. This won't ever win "Best Sushi Restaurant" in Houston but we're all super lucky to have it right down the street. Check out the pictures below - this is the $12 lunch special + $5 worth of quail eggs on masago (we taught them how to make this). So I came here with a group of 5 on a Friday night at 8:30. My apologies, I didn't realize all the employees are ready to clock out at 8:29. Nonetheless, we are greeted, seated and ready to roll. We place our orders after much discussion and clarification and the chef is rolling.... that is until he pulled out PRE-COOKED SHRIMP & CHICKEN! Like what in the lovely **ck?!? If I wanted precooked, I would've order to-go or delivery. I most certainly wouldn't have sat table-side waiting to get my eyebrows burnt off by the show for fresh food. They explained to me if I wanted "extra" or "fried rice additional" it comes already cooked in the back... The chef and I spoke (reluctantly on his side) and he seemed to be upset with my confusion about it all and stopped performing and doing tricks altogether. We used to come here almost every weekend. They used to be busy and the service was good. Hopefully they can get back to that point. Now it seems like every time we come in the service is lacking and some of the servers almost seem annoyed to take care of customers, the wait is long, prices have gone up, but there's hardly anyone in there. We always do hibachi and lately it's so hot in that area that we can't wait to get out of there. My partner has an allergy to avocado. We usually order the shrimp crunch roll to share before our meal but only get avocado on half of the roll. We completely understand not being able to accommodate when there are a lot of customers. However when there are only two tables being served and they cannot accommodate an allergy then that's just poor customer service and laziness. We can see the sushi chef watching tv from where we are sitting. Good job, buddy! The hibachi chefs and their cooking is what has kept us coming back but it might be time to hang up our hats on this place and find a better spot for hibachi and sushi. Visited on 5/17/24. The interior definitely looked dated. Did have to wait a bit for the chef to start. Ordered filet medium rare. Upon filet being placed on slab, it did not appear to be filet - almost had the look of liver. I remember thinking I wish I had ordered the 'steak' that was sitting next to my filet. There were a few pieces of meat that kept getting larger the longer I chewed..... Overall, I was disappointed and wished I had gone to the Hayashi Hibachi on 1960. (only came here because it was closer) For $133 for 3 adults - was overpriced for what we got. We will never come back here. the service was horrible. It was okay that the medium rare steak was tough, but the aftermath on how they handled "making it right " was unacceptable. The manager came to the table ( in a very polite, but very condescending)saying he would discount the meals, then handed us a bill with no discount as promised. He proceeded to tell us that they do not give discounts. The owner was there and never came to talk to us as we asked. The managemer then accidentally charged our account twice. They had to call Customer service to assist them with our refund . In the end they reluctantly made a second steak for us. It would have been nice if they would have done this in the first place, not waste our time and have us to ask for the owner, who never address us. Went for the first time a few weeks ago, for lunch on a Sunday. It was OUTSTANDING! There weren't many people seated on the sushi side; with the dark wood, low light and glass wall fountain the ambiance was very serene. Our server Irene and the sushi chefs were super friendly. They happily answered all my menu questions and I decided on the Akaihi Special (soup, salad, chef's choice sushi: salmon, tuna, white tuna, shrimp w/ CA roll and spicy salmon hand roll), $12 of beautiful deliciousness! I always drink Kirin Ichiban with my sushi. But I must say, I was impressed by the size of the wine glasses and decent pours I saw a few tables over. Went for Happy Hour last night. It was 6:30 on a Friday night and no surprise they were super busy. Hostess told us there was a 15 to 20 minute wait, so I was a little worried we would miss happy hour. Thankfully, we were seated in 15 minutes and our server (Irene, again!) came over within a few minutes and took our first order. We ordered two more times before happy hour ended. Our sushi was great (escolar was fantastic!). The Happy Sumo roll was OK...menu says it's wrapped in soy paper, so I didn't expect it to have any rice around it, but it did. I am continuously pleased each time I visit Akaihi. I chose to eat here for my birthday lunch, and they did not disappoint! My medium filet mignon was done perfectly. The chef cooks all of our food in front of us. Does a fun show with his skills which amaze me every time. The fried rice is phenomenal. Our chef was top notch, and the owner came over to greet us. My wife ordered a shaggy dog, and everyone came over for bites it was so good. Folks at the other hibachi tables were placed following good socially distant practices. This is my go to restaurant specially when I have visitors from out of town. The place can accommodate large groups but it's cozy still. Lunch here at Akaihi is priced right considering the variety you're getting as well as food quality. I ordered shrimp and scallop hibachi this particular day . My order includes their yummy fried rice, hibachi veggies and salad. The amount of fried rice you're getting is very generous. Their salad dressing makes the boring iceberg lettuce enjoyable to eat. Service from the hibachi chef Tito and server Mylene are excellent. Would definitely recommend to try if ever you're in the Klein Spring area. I want to add that I was also given green tea ice cream as dessert and was not charged extra. read more

This was the absolute worst experience we've EVER had here and we've been eating here for years. We arrived 15 minutes before 3 and it took three tries for the waitress to get my tea order correct. This put the time at 10 after 3 and they said that since our order wasn't in the system they couldn't honor the lunch prices. We asked for the manager and he blamed it on me because I went to the restroom when we walked in. To top it off, when the waitress finally got my tea right, there was a HUGE chip in my cup.
