my son purchased a car he was just out of the military and now was starting school and he needed a reliable car so he went to AKAR AUTO CENTER. Day one of having the car the car broke down. I know sometimes things like this happen but there should be a 30 day if anything happens to the vehicle coverage through the dealer and they didn't want to off help at all. My son had to pay out of pocket $700. bottom line AKAR AUTO CENTER. Is not a place I would recommend to anyone. read more

Brought in 2017 Chevy Volt in for 2 new tires (decided to try after Larry Ng's changed hands). After replacing tires, mounting, balancing, and aligning, the bill was $597.00. Which was ok. Everything seemed reasonable until I drove away and I noticed one of the tires showed tire pressure of more than 65 psi on the dashboard display. I took the car back, concerned that the sensor might be wrong. But no, the guy had overfilled the tire to a potentially dangerous level. They relieved the pressure, and the owner said "OK, here's your car." No apology, no explanation. When I inquired about what happened (politely), I got a bunch of attitude. Do not go to this shop. The owner and mechanic seem to have a serious customer attitude problem that needs to be fixed. Not going back. read more

My BMW needed a tune-up; I asked what his labor charge was -- he quoted me $115/hr then continued by saying a lot less expensive than the BMW dealership charge of $150. I left the car there for over 2 hours and then came back to check on the car. He hadn't done any work yet but quoted either $1000 or $1100 to change the plugs, coils, and air filter. Standard stuff -- outrageous price. When home, I ordered the top-of-line plugs/coils and two filters online - $300. I replace all in just over one hour! I had to borrow my neighbor's torque wrench to install the plugs (22 ft-lbs) but still, if needed, I could have bought one for $50 and still saved a huge amount of money. Based on my one-time experience, the owner is NOT trustworthy! STAY AWAY!!! read more

Worst auto shop I've been too. I came in for a battery replacement, but they tried convincing me to leave my car overnight even though they hadn't even looked at my car. After telling them that was not possible, they tried convincing me again because my car was making a "weird sound." It's a good thing I know my car very well and told them I knew what that sound was, and that it was not a problem. Then they tried convincing me that my flashing clock was a sign of a huge problem. But the flashing clock was clearly due to the fact that I jump started my car that morning, something that I had told them on the phone AND in person. So they either tried taking advantage of a young female driver, or did not know anything about cars. I do not recommend this place unless you're male or have a lot of money to be scammed out of. read more

This place is the best in Wellesley, family run and very reasonable and reliable. They went above and beyond for me today when I locked the keys in my BMW. I can't say enough good things about this service station and repairs I've had done there. I won't take my cars any where else! read more

horrible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! my wife broke down getting gas . the ownwer ner quoted a price of $650 for a starter . the actual cost was 115 for the starter and 1 hr labor. complete ripp off had my car towed from them 40 miles and still saved $400 do not go to this place zero stars read more

Came in for a sticker and got fleeced. Wish that I read the other reviews and could give a negative rating. Do not go here!!!! This is the story so you avoid being as stupid as me: went in for sticker and told by Wally the owner that the tires were bald and that the front bumper was broken. Thought this was weird since the car just had a 100K check up and everything was fine. Showed me the front end where the bumper appeared newly wrenched off. "Only need a small bracket." Was going to give a provisional sticker so I got it fixed there.~$1000 and many hours later, I get the car. Now it seems it needs brakes which had been recently replaced...no dice. Very suspicious that Wally gave me a regular sticker despite all the work that needed to be done right after a dealer tune up. Had to bring the car to the dealership since the front fog light cover fell off. Appears that it was broken off...perhaps when the fender was fixed with a zip tie and glue? Dishonest and shoddy work for top dollar. And it takes forever...please please please avoid. I NEVER bother to write reviews but I don't want anyone to waste their time and money on this guy. Shame on me for getting a sticker in Wellesley where shysters like Wally feel it's okay to prey on dopes like me!!! read more

Hard to give this place even the one star required for rating. Do not go there!! I took my car for a state inspection and was told by the owner that I had passed inspection but that my brakes were not good. I knew my rear brakes were fairly new but my front brakes were near due for a change. He put the car on the lift and confirmed that the rear were good. I agreed to have my front brakes replaced. When I picked my car up he handed me estimates for a front end alignment, rear shock replacement and battery replacement. I told him I would not be having those things repaired. When I left the station my brakes were squeaking at every stop. I let it go for a week to see if it would stop. It did not. I took the car back to Akar and the owner had me leave my car to check the squeak. When I returned he told me that my front brakes were fine and it was my rear brakes that were squeaking and handed me an estimate for rear brake replacement. Remember he had told me my rear brakes were fine the week before??!! I told him that was quite coincidental for rear brakes to start squeaking on the day my front brakes were replaced. I took my car to my regular trusted mechanic (Christos in Natick) and he confirmed that my battery, alignment, rear shocks and rear brakes are all fine. He said the front brake pads were squeaking and that the wrong adhesive had been used on the brake pads. The brake pads were not Lexus certified pads as were listed on my receipt. My mechanic was afraid of how the adhesive would react over time and recommended changing them out for safety. No more squeak! Again...avoid at all costs!! Shameful! read more

This was the first AND last time I will ever go there, and I don't recommend anyone else go there either. Three (3) of my tires need to be replaced, I don't dispute that but one still has a good amount of tread on it. I might not be a mechanic but I know enough to know this. I knew I wouldn't be buying tires there because I already know I can get cheaper elsewhere, but I got a price from them regardless, and it was the person giving me the price I had an argument with. I was nice, I was polite but I did say "I disagree" to which this man said, "Look, we're professionals. We know what we're doing" and he said it with attitude. I doubt he'd have talked to me like that if I were a male. I don't think he likes females that stand up for theirself. He wouldn't let me speak, he kept talking over me and I finally told him look, I'm not stupid. I know enough to know when a tire has enough tread and when it doesn't. He said "I'm not talking to you like you're stupid, but we're the professionals and you're not" very condescending like he knew everything and I didn't know anything. I wasn't rude. My tone was calm, even. I just wasn't accepting him talking to me like that. I spoke with his manager, and while doing so, he came out of the office and started again right in front of her, not letting me get a word in edgewise. He told me you're done, get out of here dont come back. She didn't interupt or tell him to stop. I told her this kind of treatment was rude and unprofessional, and pointed out how he talked over me and wouldn't let me get a word in edgewise. I know I can be a little "strong" at times, I get that, but I swear I wasn't anything but really nice. My car was rejected because of the tires and my plate (too faded) and once I get that done, I won't go back there. You'd think that if a worker spoke to a customer like that in front you that the manager would put a stop to it right then and there, rather than saying "Sorry" like it was no big deal. I work in the area and I'm already letting my co-workers know about it. read more
