"Here we go again", I thought. Best case scenario, I was thinking maybe a synchro. Worst case, full tranny rebuild!! Despite a busy and hot day, Paul graciously said I could swing by so he take a quick look to see what we're dealing with. To make a long story very short, it turned out when the car needed a new battery up at school (in VT, and the only shop in town was the Honda Dealership), they did not put the battery holder back on and the long bolt that holds the battery fell over and prevented the shifter to fully engage second gear. UGH!!! This is from the dealership, no less!! Anyone, once again, Paul and Chestnut Motors saves the day... proving yet again, they do not rip their customers off and can be a trusted partner in keeping cars on the road.

Honesty - unlike my experience at dealers, I never feel like Art is trying to run up the bill with things that don't really need to be done. Sometimes we'll have a car getting recall work at a dealer and they will flag other work that needs to be done, but we'll always take it to Art and get and unbiased view, and generally a better price if the work does need to be done. I don't know a lot about cars, so I really appreciate the peace of mind I get leaving the car with Art and knowing he's looking out for my best interests. 2. Quality - Art has probably done work on 8-9 cars for us over the years, and I've never had cause to question the quality of his work. He knows what he's doing. 3. Friendliness - Everyone who works there is great to deal with. Exceptional personal service. I rarely do Yelp reviews, but I rely on them all the time, so I figured it was only fair to give a shout-out to Art's, since he just fixed my wife's car during this recent blizzard and I'll be in with my car for a brake job next week. Spoke to Art and he said they will look at it. Bob looked at it and informed me that he will be able to fix it but the problem will come back in few months, so he recommends replacing it. He did not charge for evaluation. Brought the car back, and Kirsten (or Kristen, can't remember) in the office called me with an estimate and I agreed. Part was replaced for less than 1/2 what the dealer wanted and these guys made it easy on me. Highly recommended. Honest mechanics do exist if you look hard enough.

Absolutely great! I went to Catalano Automotive Repair even though I still had a warranty from BMW on my tires and rims. I had previously been to the BMW dealer in Boston and was told that I needed 2 tires. They put the new tires both on the same side, passenger side. When I asked why they didn't put the new tires on the front the service person informed that it was "not a subaru." I was not pleased with his reply and I really wondered if I needed new tires as the car only had 19k miles on it and there was no leak in any of the tires. Several weeks later my tires were low because of the cold weather though my back tire was quite low. I put air in but the back tire lost so much air that I stopped on my way to a doctor's appointment and more air was put in although the tire continued to lose air and was totally flat (though it was a run on flat kind of tire) by the time I got home and pulled the car into the driveway. I called Catalano Autorepair several days later as I looked them up and they had excellent ratings. I spoke with John Catalano and he said I should not drive to get air in it and then drive to him if the tire was totally flat, which it was. He asked if I had AAA and I said yes, and I had AAA bring my car into John who told me on prior to the car coming that he would either repair the tire or replace it but he was concerned that if I drove it flat I might have ruined the tire. We agreed he would order a new one but if it could be repaired he would repair it. He called me when the car arrived to let me know it was there. He did not have much time that day but promised he would get to it the following day, which he did. He called the next day to tell me that he and his team had filled the tire and put it in water, and even water with soap, and they could not find a leak. He then put the tire back on and drove it around and let it sit over the weekend as he and his team couldn't figure out what was wrong as the tire seemed fine. After the weekend he called to say that the tire was still not leaking -- he suggested I could take it back or put a new tire on it. I went back and forth but decided I would purchase the new tire and have him put the old one in the trunk - he would also put the newest tires on the front. He said it DID make a difference - putting the best tires on the front. He also noted that there was rust on the brake roter likely from not being driven sufficiently and that I should watch it and it might improve with my driving, but it might not. -- He checked to see what else was needed for service -- at MY request -- and everything is fine -- the cost for me was for the new tire, the mount and balance and rotation of tires, and taxes for $292.22 -- I felt grateful finding someone who really wanted to solve a puzzle -- I will now use him for this car and our old Honda Pilot -- I could not recommend anyone more highly -- John Catalano was terrific. He is honest and fair and really cares about doing the best he can to solve an automotive problem. And, while it still made no sense as to why the tire was flat, I have it in my garage and may try it in sometime to replace an older tire at a later point in time. But the care that John and his team took to try to solve the problem and not just jump to sell me a new tire, and even suggesting that I could leave with the tire I had, given that it didn't seem to be going flat, I found most reassuring. I used Yelp to find Catalano AutoRepair. I have found Yelp reviews to be highly reliable in the past. I want to return the favor to other Yelp users. I unexpectedly have to drive my injured daughters car from post winter Boston to L.A., a 3000 mile drive including mountains and deserts. Catalano AutoRepair was exactly as described by other reviewers. John Catalano was very nice to schedule me at short notice. His staff looked over my car which needed brake rotors, pads, spark plugs, belts and of course an oil change. He honestly told me that I could wait until I reached L.A. to do this but he quoted me a price that I know was fair and what I would have paid to a mechanic I have regularly used in L.A. John is a very pleasant, friendly manager. His office is comfortable and he even offered to get me some lunch as I wait for service. I told John to go ahead with the repairs because I would rather not find myself broken down on the freeway or worse in the mountains or deserts I will be crossing. I agree with the other reviewers. Catalano Auto Repair is a friendly, professional, honest, fairly priced shop and John Catalano was great to work with. These guys are GREAT! Upon discovering that I would have to replace the runflat tires on my LEASED Toyota Sienna after only 20k miles at the cost of $1500 I went to Google looking for an independently owned shop who might advise me from an educated and unbiased place. Catalano came up and when I popped them into Yelp saw nothing but positive reviews. A phone call later and I knew immediately that I had found a company I could trust. John's advice was sound and compassionate, more interested in what was right for me and my situation above his bottom line. When I brought my car in the next week they had my new tires waiting for me, drove me to a nearby coffee shop so I could work while waiting, finished the job in less than a couple of hours, and picked me up when the job was complete. I just had another positive experience at Catalano's Auto repair in Needham Heights, and finally am writing a review. I've been a customer of John Catalano's Auto repair for years. My son had referred me to John's after I had had yet another bad experience at the dealership I'd purchased my car from, where I ended up with more squeaking coming from my car after repairs, than I'd had before the repairs... John found rusty parts that had not been taken care of, he repaired the car, the squeaking was gone, and I never went back to the dealership. John quotes the honest cost, he is efficient, personable, and he listens as I've described the symptoms of "a weird sound", to help him pinpoint an area to begin his diagnosis. John was terrific all the way through my interactions with him -- responsive, straightforward, efficient and cost-effective. He responded to my email in 15-30 minutes by phone, when he gave rough parameters for the cost (labor and materials), subject to the trouble-shooting involved. He executed the work efficiently in the time he allocated. The repair was a non-functioning headlight on a 10 year-old Prius, which turned out to be the HID bulb rather than the ballast. I've been taking my truck to Catalano for Years. Using my truck for work in construction every day, I learned the hard way the value of an honest and dependable auto mechanic. It's a rare thing. But when you find one who actively goes out of his way to work with you, give you alternative. options and save you as much money as possible, that's one in a million, it's hard to imagine going anywhere else. New tire business with free alignments on some sets are beating out deals I had previously at Townfair NTB and Sullivan. I had my 2008 Camry repaired here for the first time after my previous shop switched to just doing body work. I had a great experience interacting with John. He was prompt with the estimate and repairs, friendly, and reviewed some of the things my dealership had told me needed to be done. I had a serious brake problem to the point where I was scared to go home because of the weather and how far I lived. My headlights also blew out on the case of an eletrical problem. I wasn't able to get it fixed at Monroe's so I was recommended to Catalano. They was able to fix it without replacing the wires. I was amazed and it shows how much they know their craft. They found several of the same things as the other shop but they were not charging their extreme prices. They created videos showing what work needed to be done and why, they had loaner cars available for me and even offered to drive me home while they worked on it. I noticed after I got the car the next day that there was a small vibration and they immediately came and got the car from my house, checked it out, and realigned the wheels at no additional cost. I will definitely be going back for all of my future car needs and highly recommend them.

When I went there, they took pictures and video of my control arms and brakes and rotors and used scare tactics to tell me that I cannot drive this car as it is a safety issue. I met the owner, i have no idea why I needed to meet him. I had spoken with one of the floor mechanics who showed me a leak from my thermostat. They told me $1300 for brakes, $1700 for control arms, and $1000 for the thermostat... $4000! I drove home (even though they warned me not to), ordered the control arms, rotors, brakes, and thermostat and replaced them all myself. Here are the results: The car has 60,000 miles. The control arms look used like a car with 60k miles should, but they were not anywhere near an imminent failure. Same for the brakes and rotors. The only issue that was important for me was to replace was the thermostat housing... yes, the one that I had taken the initiative to ask the floor mechanic, and the front desk didn't even tell me about! Now, I knew what they were talking about. But I can clearly see how someone who didn't know much about cars would be terrified into hiring them for repairs that really weren't needed. The videos, etc, are all part of the credibility and selling process. Speaking of which, I can tell you that these guys use what's called a "one-call close" sales tactic. Just like at a dealership, these guys know that if a customer walks out the door, 90% of the time, they are not coming back. And, the salespeople are paid on almost 100% commission. That means that if they don't close a sale, they don't eat. They are not interested in a relationship. No independent shop had the equipment or know-how to do the job, and the dealer wanted $5000 for the repair. Rayteam did it for $1800. They were friendly, accommodating, and VERY knowledgeable. When I told them what was going on, they knew exactly what was wrong and quickly came up with a plan to fix the car. It's been more than two years since this happened and their work has held up flawlessly. They're a bit far from me to do routine maintenance with, but if I need a larger, more complex job done they will be the first number I call.

Last Sunday, our car starter died at Costco Gas, so we had it towed to Nick's. They called first thing the next day, explained the issue, gave a clear estimate, and had us back on the road the same day. This week, we brought our other car in for an oil change. I called ahead and was told to bring it in whenever was convenient. I dropped it off at 8am and by 11am, they called to let us know the car was ready, with no issues after a full inspection.
