After purchasing a used 2025 BMW 540i, I noticed a persistent grinding noise from the brakes at low speeds. I took it to the dealership as it is under warranty. They confirmed the noise but told me that the pads were recently replaced and they can't help me. I called John and described the issue and John asked me to bring it the next day. Although he could not reproduce the noise during inspection, based on my description, he suspected the problem was due to second tier BMW brake pads and recommended replacing them with OEM pads and he gave me a very competitive price. I hesitated a bit given that the pads on it were only 2 months old but then decided to trust his judgment, and he was absolutely right. Once the OEM pads were installed, the brakes became completely silent. The difference was immediate and dramatically improved my driving experience. The mechanic told me that my car didn't pass, due to brake issues. He offered to access the brakes and fix any problems. They put a rejection sticker on my windshield. Since this effort could potentially be an expensive effort and I didn't know the place, I was reluctant. But the owner assured me that they would do a good job. So I made an appointment for the next day. Still has reservations about them doing the work. My neighbor suggested reading any Yelp reviews before moving forward. I did this and was shocked at all the bad reviews. Told them in person the next day that I couldn't do business with them, due to the bad reviews, and drove away before the mechanic could respond. Made an appointment with Direct Tire in Watertown, who I had been going to for about 30 years. They are great! Susan, the representative, looked up my car in Carfax, She found that my brake and rotors had been replaced in early June of last year by Parkway Toyota. I bought the car from them a few weeks later. They gave me a loaner car, too. Thank you, Susan and Godfrey, and thank you, Direct Tire and Parkway Toyota for being so honest!! This is why I have gone to Direct Tire for so long.

Despite a busy and hot day, Paul graciously said I could swing by so he take a quick look to see what we're dealing with. To make a long story very short, it turned out when the car needed a new battery up at school (in VT, and the only shop in town was the Honda Dealership), they did not put the battery holder back on and the long bolt that holds the battery fell over and prevented the shifter to fully engage second gear. UGH!!! This is from the dealership, no less!! Anyone, once again, Paul and Chestnut Motors saves the day... proving yet again, they do not rip their customers off and can be a trusted partner in keeping cars on the road.

I asked around for a…read moregood mechanic and luckily someone suggested Art's, and we've been going there ever since for all the family's cars. The three keys things about Art's are: 1. Honesty - unlike my experience at dealers, I never feel like Art is trying to run up the bill with things that don't really need to be done. Sometimes we'll have a car getting recall work at a dealer and they will flag other work that needs to be done, but we'll always take it to Art and get and unbiased view, and generally a better price if the work does need to be done. I don't know a lot about cars, so I really appreciate the peace of mind I get leaving the car with Art and knowing he's looking out for my best interests. 2. Quality - Art has probably done work on 8-9 cars for us over the years, and I've never had cause to question the quality of his work. He knows what he's doing. 3. Friendliness - Everyone who works there is great to deal with. Exceptional personal service. I rarely do Yelp reviews, but I rely on them all the time, so I figured it was only fair to give a shout-out to Art's, since he just fixed my wife's car during this recent blizzard and I'll be in with my car for a brake job next week. He did not charge for evaluation. Brought the car back, and Kirsten (or Kristen, can't remember) in the office called me with an estimate and I agreed. Part was replaced for less than 1/2 what the dealer wanted and these guys made it easy on me. Highly recommended. Honest mechanics do exist if you look hard enough.
