I came here with my family for my birthday dinner. I haven't had hibachi is years so I just wanted to share the experience with my kids. The first thing I noticed when walking in is that their floors were VERY clean. If you can walk in and make the same noise you make when playing on a legit wood basketball court, you know its clean! We sat down and the cook was very entertaining and polite to my kids. He made my daughter laugh and enjoy the cooking show. We all enjoy the food and it was very flavorful and the portions were really good! We all had to go boxes for our leftovers. The owner came out and greeted us and asked if it was our first time coming and if there was a special occasion. Within 5min im hearing a hype birthday song and they gave me a birthday hat! It sits in the Bull Run shopping center and according to the manager has been there for years! They provided a great experience for my family with excellent service and great food! This is the second time that I've been here with my son. We mainly go to this location because we had a good time last time and he loves hibachi, as do I. We went last night, which was a Monday and I didn't expect it to be busy so we were pleasantly surprised that it was. The restaurant was about 3/4 full. We were seated at a table with 5 other pleasant people. The first thing I noticed was that the floor was very sticky as we were seated -- it was pretty dirty. My son ordered the kid's filet hibachi and I ordered the filet and shrimp combo and ordered us both a salad roll. They were so generous with the cherries in my son's Shirley Temple. I ordered a Mai Thai. It was delicious. When they brought the soup and salad, we all had a good laugh at how cold the soup was. But it was delicious. The hibachi cook was great, very entertaining and generous with the portions of food. My son had ordered steamed rice and regretted it when he tasted how good it was. So the cook gave him the extra rice. All in all it would have been 10/10 except for the sticky floor, cold soup and they were very understaffed. But that was not their fault. read more

Came in here after work one day, last week, on 6/13/23. Usually I only visit once or twice a year, on my birthday as a special occasion. I was disappointed to hear that they'd only do the hibachi show as a group of 2 or more people, and not if you were alone, or nobody else was waiting. I don't really understand this methodology, because they are still paying that chef to be on the clock, they are still paying for the same food to be prepared on some other cooking implement in the back, and they're still taking in the same amount of money from the food sale at the end of the day... Color me confused. Moving past this, I decided not to wait and was sat at a table in the corner of the restaurant. The decor was nice, as always, and the tables were clean. The place was well-kept and all the staff were polite and quick to respond to any needs or requests presented by myself and other patrons. I ordered the steak and chicken meal, with fried rice. The meal comes with a salad, with peanut-based dressing, and a nice cleansing chicken soup. Both of the starters are common, no matter what meal you get, and both were very enjoyable and up-to expectations from this location. Same great food, same great taste, as always. The steak was cooked perfectly, as was the chicken. The steak was soft and tender, with a nice light seasoning. The chicken was perfect, and had a nice soy flavor with it, and a lovely appearance, with some sesame seeds. The rice was always my favorite, because of the amazing blend of flavors, and it continues to impress every time I come in. If I ever want a fantastic meal, this is where I come, usually just for the rice, and soups. The only faults that I had during the service was when the server offered to refill my drink even though it wasn't even 1/3 of the way finished. I had taken maybe 3 sips of it. I just remember thinking 'Jeez, I hope I don't get charged a refill price for that tiny amount'. Later as the service got busier, there was a time when he failed to notice my drink was empty as he was passing in and out of the section, but it was only by a few minutes that I was 'out of drink'. He noticed and quickly refilled it. I won't fault them too hard for that. It's one of those things -- do you want your server staring at you all meal waiting for the drink to go half-down, or do you want them to fully leave you be until the drink is fully drained? haha. All-in-all it was a great meal, with amazing flavors, and a wonderful experience. The only painful part was the prices. For the steak, chicken, soup, salad, fried rice, 2 drinks, and tip, I was down $41, just for the food. Like I said before, the server was very good, and I left him a fair 21% tip, for his time. In the end, $50 out of pocket for a nice afternoon out. read more

First time trying this place considering I'm a frequent shopper at this strip mall. My husband found this place for us to go for my birthday. The decor and overall ambiance was nice. We went on a Monday evening and it was only one other family there. This was to be expected. Hibachi was tasty but my lobster was overcooked. The chef was nice though and he entertained us in the usual Hibachi fashion. If it's your birthday and you mention it, expect a nice song to be played over the speaker, a balloon hat and a scoop of ice cream. I've always loved this place, even with take out during the pandemic. Today was disappointing. The ginger sauce was bitter, the salad was soggy and the dressing watered down (like they assembled it with the dressing and left it in the fridge to a few hours). Wait staff was relatively attentive but dry. They no longer include noodles with hibachi and they don't tell you that. If you want them you have to ask and they cost an additional $4 now. I understand inflation and that prices will go up, I would have been fine with paying extra, just would have been nice to have at least been asked. Just do yourself a favor. Before you go to a 'Japanese' restaurant and try to order ramen, ask if the restaurant is owned by Korean. A real Japanese ramen is a very complicated and delicate dish. It takes special attention from broth to the noodle from the chef. But a Korean ramen is just fast noodle that's going to cost you 20 times the same stuff from supermarket. Plus, instead of using fresh shrimp, they use frozen cooked shrimp. The 1 star is for the restaurant decorations. read more

Akasaka was my go to for hibachi and sushi in Manassas, unfortunately not so much anymore. The hibachi is still very good but the sushi quality has severely changed for the worst. The rice is mushy and some of the rolls have had a weird taste to them. The salad dressing is watered down.. even more than what it used to be. And so has the yum yum sauce. The servers were very nice but so inattentive.. seemed more interested in their own conversations. This was the case with our table and others. I constantly had to ask for things such as refills as they hardly ever came back to check on us unless they were taking our order or delving the food. Had a friend a his kid with us who never had Teppanyaki grill experience before. Since it was right there, we decided to give it a shot. Now mind you, we have had this type of experiences in restaurants in NY, Chicago, Ohio, Tennessee, California and so on, and it was always a great experience. We sat, and when choosing food, my wife doesn't eat much, and neither does my friends kid, so we asked the server of it was okay to split, and of so how much they'd charge. And considering the multiple plates of sushis and drinks we ordered, we weren't trying to be cheap, just didn't feel like we should order too much. Server told us it is okay to split and they do not charge. Okay, all well and good we hoped. As we are getting pumped for the kid to have fun server gave us two soups. So when I asked again if they want me to pay to split, they told me no, she'll just get the soups. Then when it was time for salads, she asked if we want salads, and I was too embarrassed to ask at this point. After a while, the chef came and started flipping his spatulas and one went flying which landed on and spilled drinks all over on my friend and his kid! To our surprise, chef kept continuing to his routine! Like, maybe at least apologize to the kid? Or offer to get us napkins or something? Our guests had to get up soaked, and wait for the waiter while the chef kept performing. And then the fucked up part was the amount of food. For almost $30 an order, the amount of rice, veggies, or meat isn't anywhere near acceptable. Two strips of some cut of meat We ordered a side of chicken, where they charged us about $11 for half a small breast. And when the chef put food, he only put food on two of our plate, and didn't put anything on my wife or the kids. By this time we have mentioned that we are splitting, multiple times. And our prior experience was in a restaurant like this they usually give you quite the bit of rice at least, I mean it's rice, nothing expensive! Or perhaps, give more chicken? Half a breast for $11 is pathetic to say the least. Well, it is safe to say, I'm not coming back to this place. And Help has failed to suggest a good place for the first time. read more

On a chilly rainy Saturday night, my wife and I were searching for a dinner spot when we discovered there is a Japanese Steak House in the Bull Run Shopping Plaza along bus 234. We have our favorite JSH in Chantilly that we use as a gauge to measure all others against. Akasaka faired well in our books. Being close to 6pm, we approached the door trying to guess what the wait would be. Surprise, we were seated immediately. First impressions were that the dining was bright and clean with a nice looking long full service bar running down one side. Too often, we find dark rooms and sticky tables and chairs but not here. After being handed menus, we were surprised again by their prices. Their entrees were ~$5 cheaper than our reference point. Nice surprise. For drinks, my wife got a glass of Malbec and I selected an Ichiban from among several other Japanese beers on the list. I ordered the filet and shrimp combo and my wife got her usual scallops. Fried rice is an option for a couple more bucks which is typical in places like these. Our chef soon rolled up with his cart of goodies to prepare before us. He was very experienced and prepared excellent meals for us. My only complaint was that he dialed in the show part of the food prep. Yes we got a steaming raw onion volcano but no tricks with the eggs and very little banter. This is where you need to bring a little kid along with you as the chefs will play up to them. Service the entire time was top notch. Everyone from the host to the bus boy were friendly and constantly checked to see if we needed anything but not too the point of being annoying. Overall a great meal and time here. They certainly are at the top of our list for a hibachi dinner. read more

The soy sauce bowls at our table have been previously used and still had dried rice inside after an hour to get our food we got around $100 worth of sushi for 2 people we were very disappointed with the quality of food the rice for all pieces of sushi was dry and under cooked and was not real sushi rice I have eaten thousands of dollars worth of sushi and by far this place is the worst I have ever Been too will NEVER go here again and will NOT recommend to anyone I know that likes sushi read more

Great for parties, dates, family night out. The employees are all very sweet and attentive. Our hibachi chef was awesome. He was friendly, personable, and entertaining. Our fried rice, veggies, meats, shrimp were delicious but a bit on the saltier side. The two sauces that come with your meal really add more flavor to the meats and veggies. They are delicious and addicting. The consistency was spot on for everything. I just had to drink a whole lot of water after eating my meal. I just moved here and was worried about finding a good sushi place again. First try and nailed it! I walked in to pick up my order and found the ambiance to be beautiful. In the entry way there are walls covered in special celebratory photos taken at this restaurant. What a clever and wholesome idea! The quality of the sushi was fantastic and we ordered a variety of different kinds. Only note, the wasabi is not good, very artificial but I have yet to find real wasabi besides buying or making your own. The ginger is high quality though none of that died pink stuff. Friendly service when I walked in, they recommended I come to dine in but I mentioned we have a baby girl and that's hard sometimes. The lady complimented me saying I didn't look like I had a baby. We had a birthday dinner for my granddaughter with 8 guests including the birthday girl. The cooking show performed by the chef was impressive. However, since the group was large the food was over cooked and small portions compared to the price. I ordered my steak medium rare that ended up well done since all the steak cubes were cooked together and mine was tough and well done. In summary all the food dried out and over cooked. The thing that grabbed me was the almost $600 bill that included an $82, 20% tip. Since the food preparation was an issue for not just me but in addition to other guests, I requested the tip be lowered to 15% which was denied due to the party size. Also, due to the my granddaughters birthday they sang a birthday song and presented her with a scoop of ice cream with chocolate sauce and charged us $4.95. Most restaurants provide a birthday dessert at no charge, not here and they didn't even ask if we wanted the birthday dessert. I would think after spending more than $500 they could give a child a scoop of ice cream. Since everything is cooked all at once it ends up dried out and overcooked. Due to ice cream charge these folks will nickel and dime you death. Also, the high end price charged the quality of the meat is not what would be expected. read more

The sushi bar is right next to the teppanyaki tables so you have to put up with the celebrating, the salt and pepper shaker banging, and all the racket that goes with that type of cuisine. Well where do I begin. I've been here years ago and it was pretty good but things change over time. It was Valentine's Day and I made reservations earlier in the week to take my girl for some surprise sushi. I understand that it was Friday and Valentine's Day but this place was out of control. They way over booked and they were way under staffed. The food took about an hour to come out a little at a time. We bought the sushi deluxe, sashimi deluxe and two different rolls.
