Jennifer at the bar joining in the fun

Great vibes!!! Came here with some friends on Saturday night and had a blast!!! We grabbed drinks from friendly bartender Jennifer picks some songs and settled in. The place has great music, good drinks and a popping dance floor. The crowd varies in age and types but it's a fun mix and everyone was having a great time. We had so much for here and will definitely be back!!!

Akbar we meet again! ... "That's that me, espresso!!" Showing up early for a Sunday Funday event I partook in adult beverages, small vendor supporting, drag performance recording and a magical day behind McDonald's (nextdoor) in the Akbar patio/parking lot as well as inside in the lounge with friends and friends of. The music was amazing with great DJs for the day. I stuck with Hella (good) canned margarita cocktails - the Hella Habanero being the best... yes, the name of the beverage is Hella. Restrooms inside both near the exit to the outside patio and inside near the lounge. Beverages are powerful and so is the welcoming energy . Parking in the Los Feliz/East Hollywood/Silver Lake area is what it is... Rideshare, public transit and carpooling is all your friend - still lots of fun food closeby such as Garage Pizza (open until 2/3AM), My Vegan Gold, Bulan Thai, fast food cuisine, Indian and once and a while an awesome street vendor. It was my first time at Akbar's Bears In Space event running into so many amazing people including the owner David who I met last year. Seeing Meatball (the drag queen), shopping at Horse & Horn and living it up was beyond fun and then some! Be back soon for a Bear Happy Hour Thursday, Craftaoke (craft night + karaoke), Disco Night or one of the many amazing events they put on as well as vendors they support with space to share and sell their quality services and/or products. Turn up that Sabrina Carpenter track and let the music play! #SupportLGBTQOwned #SupportYourLocalWateringHole

Before the show let out the place looked abandoned. Except for a couple of essential workers.

Well I had not stumbled into this place in years! Then I was with a friend older than I and I just remember couches. this time we sat at the bar and ordered drinks rather than go to the couch room and pay a cover. It is one of the closer LGBTQ bars in my area. I am always amazed at cocktail prices. $$ I had tequila rocks and my friend had a vodka seven. As soon as the drinks were served the bartender was off to the opposite end to be with his besties the other bartenders. Maybe a nice place to see the show but I wasn't WOWED either time. I will go back alone as when the show let out I was able to talk to some fun people. My friend said I was drunk and we had to leave. He was driving so "I'll be back".

    So much fun!

Loved this bar! It's a very popular gay bar in Silverlake LA where everyone is welcome. I ordered an Old Fashioned and it was excellent. Really liked the bartender too!

Fun times at Silver Lake's coolest neighborhood bar.

Akbar is the ideal spot for friends of any sexual identity to intermingle over strong drinks. What I like: The juke-box: the music ranges from 70s disco, 80s New Wave, to early 2000s alternative rock. I would bet money that the day this juke box is laid to rest, so will Akbar itself. The bartenders: from Forrest, Stephen, to the rest of the lovely gentlemen running things behind the bar, the bartenders are always welcoming and will get you tipsy in no time. What I could do without: Dance floor cover fee: Look, I get it: Akbar is a business. That noted, most weekends come with a cover fee for the dance floor. With the recent spike in drink prices, paying a cover fee for the dance floor isn't worth it, especially when the music is significantly better on the other side of the bar, courtesy of the jukebox. I can go to West Hollywood to listen to Britney, Gaga, and Rhianna for free. Bathrooms: Don't even bother. From the line to the smell, take your chances at McDonald's or Del Taco instead. I love Akbar, and the pros will always outweigh the cons. I recommend this Silver Lake gem to anyone with decent taste in music and looking for a strong drink to unwind going into the weekend.

A staple bar in the Los Feliz / Silverlake area. I love their disco/ throwback nights. Always a fun night. Their dance floor is always lively and fun. Drinks are relatively cheap and the bartenders are always nice. They do have different nights so following their insta is recommended. Some nights are paid and some nights a free to get in. The bar has two sides, a more relaxed; sit and talk area and a dancing area where it can get crazy!

Worst drinks I've ever had. $8 for Vodka Cran the tastes like just cranberry and no vodka, not to mention the smallest glass with full ice . Never again! 1 star and that's being gracious

It's also a LBGTQ+ friendly leather bar and happens to be one of the favorite spots of beloved Yelp SFV AMB Quintin. I stopped here on a whim with some friends on our way home from a night out. We didn't want the fun to end, so one last night cap was in order. Parking is a bit difficult, but we managed to snag a spot. There is a big bar in the center if the room and a smaller bar out on the patio. There are also two pool tables and a stage for various events. My friends ordered beer and I kept it simple with a vodka soda. They don't serve food but the bartender said outside eats are welcomed. The DJ was bouncing and the staff & patrons were friendly and welcoming. I like the vibe here and would come back. They host nightly events such as: RuPaul's Drag Race Viewing Party on Fridays. $5 Domestic drafts on Sundays, drink specials and free pool on Mondays, $6 Wells on Wednesday and various contests monthly. Parking situation is a bit of a hassle. Not their fault as it's in a residential area so parking can be a challenge. It was just after 7 when we arrived and the crowd was completely different from the last visit. More mellow as it was still early. Makes it easier to get a drink at the bar. Pool table was already utilized which seemed to always be the case. There were a couple of people inside along the bar area but majority was on the outdoor patio. It was somewhat busy but nothing compared to how this place can be. Especially when there's an event. Drinks are always a good price. We got a pitcher of beer which had a cooling pack inside. The question of the night was, will this thing take up the amount of glasses we could get out of the pitcher...lol... I've been a good amount of time but honestly don't know if they have a dance floor or not. We always spend time on the patio. There's 2 restroom, one with the toilet which the line can get crazy. The other is a communal one where it tends to be more easily accessible. It's cash only for drinks. Service has always been good and the crowds always fun.

Love the vibe of this bar. Very gay, masculine, and leather focus. The lay out is amazing, it's deceptively large! Huge outdoor section and a massive dance floor and bar area. We ordered some of their drinks, all were absolutely amazing. We also got some food which was great! Especially for bar food. There was a leather vendor there and they also had books! My fiancee got to pick out a collar which she loved! This bar also is so ADA friendly. The space was huge and very lovable and then the bathroom was large and nice!! The negative I have is the lack of details for the show. Perhaps I wasn't looking on the website thoroughly but there wasn't anything about show start time, brunch, etc. As it was our first time, it would've been helpful (minor negative). Also, I wasn't aware of the 18% they tack onto the bill for the brunch, but it is on their website, so a heads up. The locations itself is on the 2nd floor above the Cheese Superette and Lüstern. We weren't sure where exactly the entrance was as it can be easy to miss, but the small overhang sign for it can be see. What's more easily identifiable is the pride flag over it. We got there fairly early so killed time before. Security out front checks IDs then let's you in. And it's a short walk up a flight of stairs to get to the Precinct. Pretty decent sized space with several bar areas. The brunch spot was separate from the rest of the space with a stage in front of the video screens. The host scanned our tickets and then took us to our table which I reserved the a hightop for 2. All the tables were set for the brunch service and show. Anthony our server and who I think was also bartending took our order explaining to us that the show was sold out and that ordering early is suggested before it gets busy. We took a look at the menu and decided on the Peach Bourbon French Toast and Coco's Chilaquilles with chicken along with some much needed coffee. Anthony as well as the rest of the staff were fantastic, checking up on us and refilling our coffees and water, seeing if we needed anything else. Food was delicious, Chilaquilles were delicious, lots of chicken, chips crispy under the sauce, perfect over easy eggs alongside my side of bacon which was also cooked perfeclty. The Peach Bourbon French Toast was good as well. Large peach slices that delicous bourbon sauce over lightly fried french toast. The tots was super crispy too. Delicious. Now onto the show. It was fantastic, all the performers were exceptional, I loved how they covered every part of the brunch space really utilizing it as their performance area. At the beginning and in the middle they come around if you need change for $1's which is super helpful if you hadn't brought smaller bills for tipping the performers. Outfits were on point, the host was fantastic, singing their song, interacting with the crowd and also keeping the show moving along. They did invite birthdays to come up and lip sync for their life...well for a complimentary shot. What's not to love with Disney and drag? At the end you could go up to the performers to interact and take pictures...I'm terrible with names but they were so great. I had a wonderful experience and would definitely come again!

The best part, it was free. Everything was supplied for you. Grab your games and dabber and go to town. The hostess with the mostess was amazing. She made the game more interesting. Maybe half an hour to it, the place picked up a lot. Pretty much people kept joining in with the games. Our group did win some rounds which was pretty cool. Prizes were a bit all over the place. A table which you choose what you want. Things rang from pillows, candies, sweets, to some intimate pieces...Lol.... It was hilarious. There was a few intermission for a little performance from the hostess. Lip sync for your life with some tips in hand. It was a fun afternoon not expecting anything. We easily found a place to sit on the shaded outdoor dining area, all the time people were going inside the adjacent dining and dancing area for one of the Abbey's famous drag shows. I ordered the guacamole bacon cheeseburger with fries and my guest had the Philly Cheesesteak. My burger was cooked perfectly and looked great. The fries were fair, nothing to write home about. My guest loved his Philly Cheesesteak and it brought memories of the last time he ordered one more than a decade earlier. It's only fair that I mention the conduct of one of thr employees who appears to be a host. There was an ethnic couple (probably middle eastern) siting at the table next to us, dining and enjoying their meal, when this employee approached them and singled them out because of their ethnicity. He fawned all over them, loudly, apparently trying to be welcoming, all the while addressing them as "you people" and "we are open to people like you dropping in for a gold time." While he clearly wanted to be nice, he came off as condescending and racists and was very annoying to my guest and me and people at another table who muttered "what an idiot." On the positive sign the middle eastern couple didn't appear to be annoyed but, still, that's not the way first time guests should be addressed. We dropped in on the drag show after lunch but all seats were taken so we decided not to stand in the corner and watch. Getting smart, especially a good seat means arriving about an hour before the show. Today's show began at 1:30 pm. There are nearby parking lots, pricy and neighborhood parking if one can tolerate a moderate walk. The Abbey is an ice place to go, especially on Friday and Saturday nights. Dining is pretty good and their menu is not big. But they still have a nice variety of dishes.

Unfortunately, the bartender was rude and dismissive, so I chose not to leave a tip. I closed my tab immediately, signed the receipt, left the tip line blank, and kept both copies of the receipt. My Cash App card was originally charged $15 that night, but the following day the transaction changed to $16. I did not authorize an additional $1 tip or charge. It's only a dollar, but that isn't the point. Customers should be able to trust that the amount they authorize on a receipt is the amount they are actually charged. Between the bartender's attitude and the unexplained additional charge, this was a very disappointing experience. I've kept my receipts and will be disputing the difference if it isn't corrected.
