Beethoven Market is lovely, a great addition to West LA! Beautiful decor, good service, and plenty of residential parking. The food is a hit or miss, unfortunately. The fig toast was neither sweet nor savory. The bread was too tough. The ricotta pancakes were too much of a mesh of flavor as well. Lemon, with berries, with ricotta- it just didn't work well. Not sweet, perhaps even a bit bland. The skirt steak for brunch was a nice piece of meat and the hash was unique, but the runny egg in a compact plate didn't really seal the deal for me. My favorite item was the spicy arribata pasta! Boy was that fresh pasta savory, flavorful and FRESH. I'll definitely be back a couple more times to get a better grasp of over favorite menu items but I thought I'd give a bit of detail relating to the ones we tried today. I had really high hopes for this place, because I've heard so many good things about Beethoven Market, but unfortunately, a lot of this meal missed the mark for me. The meatballs are really dry, the sausage pizza lacked flavor, along with the carbonara. However, the hanger steak was really tender and paired well with the grilled onions. I also really liked the broccolini, it was charred; and the corn ribs were nice and bright. We also waited about 30 minutes for our steak to come out, because they had to course our meal out. We decided to have a birthday dinner here for one of our family members. We arrived and seated as you need a reservation here. Nice decor and good vibe in the restaurant. Love the open kitchen and there is plenty of staff to refill water, quickly bring the food to the table when the dishes were ready and to exchange the small plates as we ordered family style. We ordered the focaccia, cauliflower, broccolini, prawns, 2 pastas, pizza, lamb & hanger steak. The steak & lamb were sitting in a small pool of olive oil which was too much for my son and he was underwhelmed with the steak. Wife enjoyed the lamb though. The pasta was cooked perfectly aldente & the cauliflower & broccolini were very flavorful. The focaccia was warm & pillowy and was one of the highlights for everyone. Neighborhood spot with a great space with outdoor and indoor seating. They're open for brunch/breakfast service and dinner service. They're also a good place to hang out with for drinks as well. The menu leans Italian, although you can get some universally cherished breakfast items. And the service is/ was wonderful. I came here right at opening on a Sunday morning and was able to sit right away down at the bar area inside. I was gonna grab breakfast - most likely the pancakes, but I saw that some pasta dishes were available. I ended up ordering the linguine al limone. I'm sure I would have been happy with the pancakes, but so glad I opted for the linguine. The pasta was perfectly cooked and it was a bright and tasty dish with a slight citrus zest. Such a fun dish to eat. Especially in the morning where I was able to enjoy with a nice cappuccino. Definitely a place I would like to come back and enjoy with another person or a small group. Stopped by Beethoven market as it caught our eye on yelp, our eyes did not deceive us. We kicked it off with olives and tuna carpaccio (tuna was fresh, I appreciate the simplicity of the dish with the ingredients). The octopus is the best octopus we have had in LA, not overly chewy and melt in your mouth. The broccolini had a nice char on it with a hint of lemon, a nice side dish. The fig pizza was delicious, nice crust and the toppings were paired perfectly. Lastly, the gelato (creamy not overly sweet). If you appreciate good ingredients and simplicity, you should come by Beethoven market. Parking may be difficult if neighborhood parking can't be found. We returned to sample brunch on the patio which was delightful. First the host Jason was very helpful and secured the table in the corner which we very much appreciated. We stopped into this fun, dimly lit restaurant that feels tucked away in a neighborhood and immediately loved the atmosphere. It has a cool, hip vibe inside that makes it perfect for a date night or a night out with friends. We ordered the Brussels sprouts, side salad, duck pappardelle, and the suppli al telefono. Everything was delicious, and every dish that came out of the kitchen looked just as good as what we ordered. Super cute spot in Mar Vista that was super busy on a Friday night. Was able to find parking pretty easily in the neighborhood. The staff was extra cautious with the menu for my allergy to balsamic vinegar and wine which is much appreciated, but also unfortunately eliminated quite a bit of the menu. Mocktails were good (check their IG for updates about the drinks list). The focaccia with whipped ricotta was tasty. So was the special pesto burrata and peaches appetizer, which was the highlight of the night. Cornribs were tasty with a fun butter that reminded me of elote but a little tricky to eat. I should have just gone with one of the regular pizzas but got the carbonara at the servers recco and wouldn't order that again. Wish we did outdoors because the weather was so nice; and indoors can get a tad too loud. Everything on the brunch menu sounded delicious, we went with the Cacio E Pepe egg toast, zucchini pizza and seasonal peach and burrata dish. We LOVED the zucchini pizza (dough/bread was delicious and the toppings complimented the dish so well). Cacio e Pepe eggs were fun, toast was a tad burnt. And the seasonal burrata and peach app was fresh and light. Our server offered hot sauce without notifying us that it was an additional $2. I really really wanted to like this place. Unfortunately it fell flat from my expectations. Service was great but that was it. We ordered the focaccia with the ricotta and honey to start. While the focaccia was bouncy, it was cold. I expected warm bread but that was not the case. Then we ordered the famous carbonara. Why was this so extremely salty?? The flavor was good otherwise but the saltiness was out of this world. For our other entree, we got the mushroom pizza. This was okay. My date really loved it but I thought it was mid. Definitely have had better mushroom pizza elsewhere. Finally we got the tiramisu which was also highly raved about. Thankfully the expectations were met with this one. Hostess Dani (female) is a terrible representative for this beautiful restaurant. I had bookmarked this restaurant & when I happened to pass this area, we dropped in at 515 pm without a reservation. Since it was still early and a Monday, the restaurant was empty. The first person we encountered was the female hostess Danni. I was happy to try the place out finally but unfortunately she started the experience terribly. Danni stared at my daughter and me when we walked up. No fake smile, nothing. She looked sour and annoyed. Definitely not welcoming or gracious whatsoever. She asked if we had a reservation. Told her no. I ignored her demeanor at that point. Another female employee was standing next to her. Danni turned her back to us to whisper to her. It was odd and awkward. Bad vibes. The other woman walked us to the back of the restaurant and seated us inside, at a table by an open exterior door directly in the sun and close to the sidewalk. I asked if we could be seated elsewhere & the young lady said, "I was told to seat you here." I asked her to ask if we could sit elsewhere since the entire large restaurant and patio were completely open and it was only 5:15 on a Monday. Only after I raised these points did the girl finally say she'd ask Danni. We stood there while she walked back, she and Danni talked, they looked at us for awhile and the girl came back to finally seat us elsewhere. Our waiter was wonderful and the meatballs were deliciously unique so I gave two stars for them. My daughter and I ordered the lemon pasta, two orders of the meatballs, salad and carbonara. The whole experience was ruined by how it started so unpleasantly, making us feel very unwelcome for some inexplicable reason. The entire time we were there, only a couple of parties had come in to dine. The majority of tables were available throughout the entire time. The unpleasant interaction with Danni made me feel really uncomfortable and it was hard to relax and enjoy the dinner. At the end of the dinner, I asked a female employee for the hostess' name and rather than giving me her name, she said she'd go get her. I watched her walk to the hostess, they both talked, looked at us and the hostess stood there staring at me. I approached her and asked her to chat if she had a minute. I did not want to resort to writing a review without giving her a chance first. I told her the way she started our dinner was really distasteful and I wanted her to be aware how her behavior makes customers feel and colors their experience at the restaurant. I tried to discuss it with her but saw that her attitude was not going to change. Super disappointing. I hope others don't experience this and I don't understand why she behaved this way. Complete waste of my time and money. The owner wrote a lovely sentiment in his Yelp description for his restaurant: "Beethoven is committed to creating a haven that is accessible to all -- a beacon of affordability, relatability, and inclusivity, where everyone feels welcome and valued. It's a space that feels like a hug - familiar and comforting - a sanctuary for forging new friendships, fostering connections, and celebrating the rich tapestry of our neighborhood." Unfortunately Danni the hostess seems to be sorely unaware of the owner's intentions. I hope she can be reminded of the owner and restaurant's beautiful objectives. Her conduct certainly felt nothing like a "hug" or "comforting sanctuary" where everyone feels welcome and valued. I unfortunately cannot recommend this place based on my experience. read more

Such a cute neighborhood spot in samo! I love the friendly ambiance and the outdoor heated patio here. The food is solid but I thought the pizza was definitely better than the pasta here. We ordered octopus and fried rice balls as starters. The octopus was very good and tender but so small. I really enjoyed the beans in the octopus dish and thought they were so well balanced with the octopus! For main, we ordered lemon pasta and mushroom pizza. The lemon pasta was very simple but delicious. The mushroom pizza was very very good. For desserts, the tiramisu was very light and fluffy. Definitely recommend the patio if you want to talk because it was quite loud inside with the music. We ordered 8 dishes to share between us and were quite full afterwards! I ordered the Beet and Farro salad along with the Zucchini and Ricotta pizza. The salad was so delicious and refreshing I forgot to take a picture! Heavy on the dill and mostly cucumber, so don't expect your traditional leafy greens with your beets. I recently went to Beethoven Market with my mentor (my "work mom") whom I hadn't seen in over two years, so this was a really meaningful catch-up for us. She arrived right when they opened for dinner around 5pm and ordered mocktails, salads, pizza, and tiramisu. The food and atmosphere were lovely, and I especially appreciated the seating... comfortable cushioned chairs with back support. As someone with multiple sclerosis, that made a real difference, especially compared to many newer restaurants that prioritize aesthetics over comfort. We were so engaged in catching up that time honestly flew by, and we didn't realize it was already a little after 7:15. At that point, a staff member (host or manager) kindly informed us that they had upcoming reservations and would need the table. I completely understand and respect restaurant reservation policies, and I don't fault the staff for needing to turn the table. However, the moment felt a bit abrupt, especially since we hadn't received any earlier heads-up that our seating time was coming to an end. It would have made a big difference to have a gentle check-in or even an offer to transition us somewhere else to continue our conversation. Overall, we really enjoyed the food, ambiance, and comfort of the space, and I would still return.
