After a number of years and 17,000 miles in my old 911, I finally got around to an ignition tune up. Akers was the last shop to touch the ignition system back in 2010. At that time, thay replaced my car's nearly new Bosch parts with their own new Bosch parts.. without authorization to do so, of course. Turns out that they installed the wrong spark plugs in the car. Not just the wrong heat range, but the complete wrong application. Akers installed VW Bus plugs, Bosch WR8CC, which are considerably shorter than the correct WR5DC plugs that set the spark closer to the center of the combustion chamber, and run hotter to boot. The correct plugs made a significant difference in the car's driveability. Its too bad that Denny Aker retired prior to my visit, as such a thing never would have happened under his watch. Oh, and Akers install only 5 of these, but installed a WR5DC in the #6 cylinder. Yeah, these guys not only hosed me, they installed the wrong parts. Stay away from this shop. read more

I generally work on it myself but was puzzled as to what was wrong and wanted to bring it to an expert. I have found Denny to be very knowledgable about this car as well as an all-around good guy. However, he has now retired and the shop is being run by his son. Unfortunately I have not had good experiences with the new incarnation of the shop. First off, I spent over $3000 to have them fix my car. When Mark called me to inform me of the estimate he said they were going to "fix everything" including some oil leaks that I knew were present. So while that was a heck of a lot to pay I said go for it 'cause I thought they'd really do a great job - much better than I could do on my own. When I got it back I received a very unspecific receipt with a few low-cost parts on it and something like 26 hours of labor. What did they do for 26 hours? I still don't know. They said the fuel hoses were loose. I took it out for a spin a few days later and it left me by the roadside. I called them and Mark said it had been working fine and that this must be a new problem. He didn't offer to help in any way, suggesting I just tow it to him and he'd take a look. I did this - at my expense of course - and it turned out the fuel pump had died. I Googled around and found that when one reconnects the fuel pump one has to be very careful not to reverse the hoses from the gas tank or the fuel pump will soon die. To me this sounded likely - the fuel pump just happened to die after they'd worked on the fuel hoses - so I suggested this may have happened. Mark said no way and that was the end of it. Since then I've seen several things "done wrong" by them in the car which just makes me think this is more likely. And I never did get an itemized receipt - even though I asked for one at least four times. I sure did get plenty of eye rolls though. p.s. The car leaks oil just like it did before. Wish I'd taken them to court as I'm pretty sure that by not providing me with an itemized receipt they violated RCW.46.71.015 - Estimates -- Invoices -- Recordkeeping requirements. read more

Not only are Mark and Denny some of the most knowledgable Porsche guys in the business, but they take the time to help you understand what your car needs to run at its top performance. I appreciate the no bull approach to repairs, they don't give you a bogus estimate only to tell you more is needed. I have taken my Porsche here for quite some time, for both small and large fixes, and have come away beyond satisfied. Both Denny and Mark are both ex-racers and take pride in working on them. Just putting in a 5 star review for Akers Porsche! Being a lady sometimes I feels shops treat me as if I don't know the car I am driving, Mark at Akers is awesome. I have been taking my Porsche to him for the last few years and he has treated me fairly, an with integrity. I have read the other reviews and have to say that I have been given itemized receipts with each service and, in fact, Mark keeps copies of these which he can reference the next time I come in! Amazing service! As an example of the service I have received I brought my 964 can in for a service and Doug was able to troubleshoot on the spot what was happening. I have a mid-80s Porsche 944 that is constantly in need of servicing. I don't know much about the inner-workings of my car, and I have called or had it serviced at a number of shops in the Seattle area. Based on my experience, I wouldn't take it anywhere else. The people at Akers always treat me fairly, and do great work on the car. When I last researched it, Akers had one of the fairest rates in the City of a shop that specialized in Porsches or European cars, and that was willing to work on my model. A couple of times I've had my car towed to the pay lot next door (not affiliated with Akers), and have dropped my key with a note into Akers' slot. They always pull it right into the shop when they open at 8, and the cars are kept secure in their building at night. I do wish Akers' had Saturday hours, or later hours one night of the week, but apart from that critique, and the fact that they often have a long queue of cars to service, they do great work, and I wouldn't go anywhere else. read more

I used to be a long time fan of Akers. I had been going to Denny for over 15 years. Once his son Mark took over, the quality of work has gone down. The last two repairs I had to take my Porsche in twice since the initial repairs were not done right. Both times I was charged extra for the second visit. On top of that Mark changed me 10% more than the original quote. Mark does not the same passion for Porsches as his Dad. Denny used to drive several Porsche with custom set up. Mark, Denny and their staff are the best when it comes to repair Porsches. The only thing I wish is that less folks swore by them because it can be challenging to get an appointment. Unless your car is under warranty, there is absolutely no reason to go to the dealership when a shop such as Aker's exists. There is no doubt in my mind, as with most knowledagble Porsche owners, that Aker's is really the place to go. Problems are diagnosed right away, and they "live" the car. Mark explains everything and when I had my IMS replaced and clutch on my 99 C2 he called to let me know how everything was going with updates. Took my '63 Porsche in for a clutch job. Mark Akers gave me an estimate, and they came in right as promised. Also asked for a check of the brakes. Very, very glad I did. They found a dislocated brake lining up front and two leaking cylinders in the rear. And while they were pulling the engine for the clutch, they noticed a cracked fuel line from the body to the engine. Everything was done for the prices they projected, the car runs great, and they may have saved me big trouble by efficiently fixing things they knew to look for. My Subaru was smoking after driving it for a while so I asked someone there to take a look and even though they don't usually work on Subaru's he told me it was an oil leak and topped off my oil for free since I was low. After buying a used 2006 Cayman with 29000 miles, I was a little nervous about the impending cost of the 30k mile service. I have used Aker's for service many times. When it comes to honest work at a fair price they are the place to go. You can take your car to a dealer based shop that has late night hours, or sat/sun time slots but these guys are a small operation run by the same family for over 40years. Generally the resources to have the kind of hours dealers have don't exist for the small family shop. I've dropped my car off and figured I'd pick it up whenever it was ready. I don't ever worry about getting the work done in one day and yet most of the time it is finished the same day. I don't expect them to provide me with a waiting room complete with T.V. and coffee while I get an oil change because that is not what they do. If you want an honest answer about how to best take care of your vehicle then you should take it to Aker's and be patient. The cliche about 'the test of time' is so true. I cannot say enough about the integrity and ethics of Denny and Mark Aker. They not only run a great Porsche shop, they are as honest and hard working as I've ever found in any business. And I should know. Denny serviced my 1973 911E and 1976 912E back in the mid-70's/early 80's. Denny and Mark then maintained my 1979 911SC for 35 years! I have taken my cars to them for over 40+ years and they have been rock solid in terms of advice, repair, and care the entire time. I recently bought a 2010 Carerra and parted with my beloved 911SC. Ironically, what brought top dollar and an immediate sale by a broker were the maintenance records that carried the Aker's name. They have both been there for the routine as well as the emergencies. They have always supported the Pacific NW Porsche Club and its activities. I have never met a finer pair and trust them without hesitation. From the moment I walked in and met Denny many years ago, I can recall thinking how great it was that there was still 'old school' service and sage advice/mechanical expertise from Denny, Mark, Doug and the rest of the crew.
