The folks at CMARR are what old fashioned places used to be. It's in a quiet street that's convenient from downtown seattle. Make sure that you call ahead as sometimes they are working in the back or have other things going on. The good thing about them is that you can ask them what they think and they are totally reasonable. For instance, someone hit our side mirror and it was going to cost $500 to replace the housing. They were great and said for a $5K car that's for the kids it wasn't worth it. Instead they glued the broken piece in and it looks good. He even said he's happy to install parts that I had got in other spots. Finally they are great when there's a problem. We took a nail in a tire and we called them and they said come over and fixed it in an hour. We really appreciate that. So if you need someone to work on your car especially one that is well loved this is good choice. Keep them in mind. read more

My warranty for my car recently expired and I am just clueless when it comes to the mechanics of my car. When the dreaded engine light came on, I turned to my "in-house" expert on what to do, who highly recommended CMARR. I arrived and introduced myself. Eric is a good friend and old colleague of a couple mutual friends. He hooked up this computer to my car and he checked all of those mysterious codes for me, topped my oil off, and at the end, assured me that this wasn't the "bad engine" light warning code and that I'd be okay. No charge. Tah-dah!! Super friendly - I sincerely feel that they are all about doing the right thing and going that extra mile to help. Thanks guys for taking my car in for a second opinion on such short notice! the story goes like a lot in the mechanic world. I had an un-named auto shop give me a quote for a LOT to fix an issue. at which point I decided to sell the car for scrap and start over. someone suggested that I get a second opinion. I took it to Cmarr for that second opinion which they gave. It was almost 1/3 of the price. from $1,400 to $500! for the same work. They also discovered that the breaks were held on by Zip ties!! a thing the other mechanic had failed to discover in the 3 times I had taken it to them. once for an inspection that purportedly included the breaks. This place is a disaster. My car needed some fix-up, so I called a few yelp-high-ranking places for a quote, and this place gave me $655, which was the lowest. I specifically asked every place for the price "with labor and tax", and $655 seems pretty good, so I decided to go with it. Today I dropped my car off, the guy at the front desk whose name was Curt told me $655 was before tax. I said "well I specifically asked for an after-tax price and you gave me $655." He said it was Steve who quoted me yesterday. Curt said he would make $655 work, I said what do you mean? He said even it goes over $655, I'll still charge you $655, after tax. I said okay. A couple of hours later, he called me and told me again $655 was before-tax price. I asked how much it would be after tax, he said $728. Well, if you told me this in the beginning, I wouldn't even drop my car off at this place, costing me time & taxi money. I told him decided not to fix my car at this place. Then the conversation stopped without any apologies. After work, I got an Uber heading to this place. On the trip, I called them exactly 7 times, trying to get a hold of them and ask what was the time they were closing, since it shows 6 PM on Google Maps but 6:30 PM on Yelp, and my arrival was likely in between. They did not pick up the phone. Let me repeat, I called 7 times, they did not pick up the phone even once. So I thought they were closed, my driver almost cancelled the trip and headed to my home, but I said I would take a look at the place. After we arrived, to my surprise, they were still open. There was only one staff there. After waiting for a long time so that he could banter with customers, I finally got my key back. Again, no apologies, not even a goodbye. read more

This is a fantastic update. Somehow my TSX's left front suspension developed a rattling sound, and ABS always engaged very prematurely just doing a normal stop downhill. My own educated guess was a loose joint or a weak strut. Based on my past experience, I took it back to CMarr and Curtis got me in very quickly on a Wednesday, knowing that I would need the car for Friday. I was hoping to get the tires re-aligned, too (it was steering left). They figured it wouldn't be an expensive fix at all. They called pretty quickly to find out that the left strut was leaking oil and it had no damping at all (what's up Acura?!). And they also got the alignment scheduled and done (they outsource that to the shop up the street), with no markup on the alignment. When I picked it up, they showed me the photo of the pre-repaired strut, oil all over the piston housing, and I got to see the swapped out part as well. This is accountability, and honestly. The price tag was beyond reasonable (emphasis on "beyond"). And there's no surprise that they are going to be moving to a bigger, and better facility soon. When a business is run this way, with integrity, fairness, hardwork, and absolute customer focus, they deserve to be successful. There is also a little side-story I wanted to add, it really shows you what kind of people are running this place. You would notice somewhere in the shop there is a pile of sawdust on the floor. And once in a while you would see a pigeon walking around. It turned out that the pigeon "moved in" with a broken wing, unable to fly. And since then, Curtis and Eric have taken him in, fed him and that pile of sawdust was this little guy's sleeping place. This little guy isn't even that afraid of people any more. How incredibly kind is that? I always believe that people who can extend kindness to injured animals are some of the nicest people around; and this is a great proof. Well, everyone has to have their first bad review. My initial review of these guys found them to be stellar. After 3 months and 3 trips back, I'm done. I gave them a pretty big job (clutch, engine replacement, odds and ends here and there) and and had nothing but problems. A couple weeks after I first saw them, I went to use the A/C which they didn't charge after replacing my engine. They fixed it for free, albeit at the expense of not having my car for 2 days. Ok, no big deal. I brought it back again a month later after my clutch went out on the way home. I couldn't get into any gear but 2nd. Its a good thing that it happened when it did because i was on some VERY twisty roads in Oregon the week before, driving somewhat spiritedly. Had it gone out there, I'd have been screwed. Turns out the problem was a loose clutch cable, which they also fixed for free. after not having my car for another several days, I figured we were done and this was the last time I'd have to see them. Nope. About a month after the last clutch incident, it went out AGAIN. Total kill. Could barely shift, and when it got in gear, it wouldn't get out. Turns out the problem was the slave cylinder. Had they replaced the 60 dollar part when I had my 800 dollar clutch and flywheel kit installed, it would have saved me $240 in labor, and 4 or 5 days without my car. BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!!!! After I picked it up from having the slave clyinder replaced, there was a REALLY loud and obvious rattling noise while the car was warming up. Like bolts in a blender loud. Turns out the problem was not far from that. they didnt put 2 screws back in the bellhousing. One found its way into the bellhousing, and was making more noise than Optimus Prime getting violated by Megatron. And, on an unrelated note, my new mechanic noticed that my intake manifold was shot, and there was a crack in the PCV valve housing, causing a slight oil leak. C-marr put both of these broken parts back on to my brand new engine block. I don't think I'll be taking my car back here again. For anyone who's still reading, I did get a refund for the work the other mechanic had to do, so that made up for at least some of the hassle. If nothing else, the guys at C-marr are very nice and honest, and they have a lot of integrity. They didn't have to give me a refund, but they did anyway, and that goes a long way in my book. read more

I trusted Cmarr my property, and they returned it to me damaged. While checking the electronics they opened up the dashboard screen ripping and cutting its leather. They didn't tell me anything about that, so I had to discover the cut myself. I contacted Cmarr right away via phone and email requiring an immediate repair. I sent Steve pictures. They have not returned ANY of my calls nor emails. They refused to share their insurance info with me, so I could place a claim with their insurance company. They promised to fix the cuts and contact me back, which has not happened for more than 1 month. Their approach to deal with my case showed how irresponsible, disrespectful and unprofessional they get when things do not go well. Will never go back nor recommend. read more

No joke, a mechanic who earns consistent 5 stars? I didn't believe it until I went in. It's true. These guys get 5 stars because I brought in my 2002 Buick because it was having brake problems. Sears quoted me $830 to replace not just pads and rotors, but calipers and cylinders as well. I wanted to see if it was true. So I drove in my car, they dismantled the brakes RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME and showed me the true situation of my car. These guys are honest, Franklin HS grads, explain things well, and live on Beacon Hill with kids that go to the local schools. Never, ever, ever will I go anywhere else. I absolutely hate going to auto shops. As a female, I feel as though I'm often upsold on things that are either unneeded or "better" for my car. I have an '07 Chevy Aveo, it's nothing special with no upgrades or anything fancy. So, a month or so back when my front tire popped (and coincidentally I also needed an oil change), I searched Yelp for a decent auto shop in my area. I called Cmarr and made an appointment to bring my car in first thing on a Saturday. Upon arriving, my car was promptly taken back and I was shown where their waiting area was. About 20 minutes in and the mechanic came to get me and show me something. Deep down I was thinking "oh no, there goes all that extra money I have for the week". Needless to say, all he wanted to do was show me the difference in tread on my tires and let me know that another one of them was going to be due soon for replacement. He then showed me back to the waiting area. Maybe 20 minutes later, he called me up and told me I was good to go. 1 brand new tire, oil change, air pumped into my spare, all fluids filled and a clean bill of health for my car and I was good to go. Long story short, aside from not trying to sell me something I didn't need, the crew at Cmarr was super nice and friendly. I will definitely be back when that other tire needs replacement! read more

This is hands down the best auto mechanic shop I've ever experienced. Honesty and reasonable prices, two things almost unheard of in this business. I found Cmarr on Yelp, and over the past few years and several different car problems, I found out for myself that they deserve every bit of the hype. Eric usually handles the customers, and he's a very nice guy who's great at explaining what's wrong and what your options are. The prices are always cheaper than I expect, and Eric has never tried to up-sell me anything. In fact, on two occasions he recommended that I not do anything to my car, and he didn't charge me for the inspection. Two other times, for smaller things (one was a series of lightbulb replacements) he charged me for his cost in parts, but no labor. In other words, he did it for free. Insanely reasonable pricing for major maintenance on my Subaru. Um, seriously. GO HERE FOR YOUR ESTIMATES. Super nice, easy to work with, honest, forthright, gave me regular updates by phone, and even replaced a long overdue rear windshield wiper. Let me know about a repair I needed done, and when I explained that it would likely be covered under warranty, they said "don't let them try to fix anything else - your car is in great shape". What more do I have to say to you? LOVE THIS PLACE. I recently went back for an oil change. I had called the previous week and arranged for my car to be dropped off in the morning. Honestly, I was expecting to get it back by 3pm because that's what generally happens when you do the "drop off and we'll squeeze it in" vs making an appointment. But no - two hours later it was done! The price seemed strangely high at first, but it turned out I was due for a tire rotation (pointed out during a previous visit but not performed due to the aforementioned warranty repair that was necessary) and a tail lightbulb was out. Yay for being on the ball! There's only one other shop I'd trust to do unplanned work on my vehicle, and it's Rude's Auto in Bellingham. Don't waste your time or money anyplace else! read more

I really would like to give Cmarr 5 stars, but I think I just keep having bad luck with them. I had my car in for brake replacements about a year ago, which all went smoothly, but a couple weeks later the new brakes started making a strange noise. I took it in, they tried some things, didn't fix the problem. Took it in again, same routine. Finally they decided to replace the rotors, which they gave me a serious discount on for all the trouble and repeat trips. Several months later and the sound was back again. This time they replaced the brakes with a much higher quality, and we're hoping that fixes it finally. They've been very fair and apologetic through the whole thing, which is much appreciated, and deserves 5 stars for effort. I do agree with some reviewers that it's often hard to get through on the phone to them, and often I don't get a call back about my car when expected. However the thing that knocks another star off for this review is the last time I picked up my car, it was COVERED in bird poop - both sides, the hood, the roof, the trunk. I tried to wash it all off but the poop was already baked on by the sun from sitting on the street at the shop, and the clear coat was already etched. So that kind of sucks. Would definitely recommend they be more conscientious with where they park the cars, and give cars a rinse if they become poop-covered. read more

Just brought my wife's car to CMarr. Car would not start one morning and so we had to have it towed in. The staff at CMarr were great throughout. Based on what I described on the phone, I thought it was the starter or a sensor. I was fully expecting to replace both the starter and/or the sensor. Instead, it turned out to be a bad battery. I also knew I needed brakes, so I asked if they could squeeze that work in as well. In the end, they saved me money and advised I wait to replace the starter as it was an expensive part and the current one was working fine. Honest, good work and a fair price. I cannot stress this enough: the guys at Cmarr are THE BEST in the city! They are honest, fair, patient and very good at their job! I have been to many other shops on recommendations from friends and colleagues and have encountered the same issues of feeling ripped off or taken advantage of after leaving. Perhaps this is just how most shops do business, trying to milk every dollar from the unsuspecting lady (or gentleman) who may not know much about cars. I have never worried about that with Cmarr, these guys make me feel like I am a VIP, they remember me everytime I come in and always have a smile when they ask "uh oh, what happened now"? :) If you need automotive repair, there is no other choice, they are worth the drive and/or wait. In a word: Awesome! I actually found this shop via a search on Yelp. Only 5 star match for Toyota Auto Repair. Basically, my poor little Rav4 was having *issues*. Any time you turned the steering wheel, it would make this horrible squeeky noise. The idle was low. Hadn't gotten it tuned up or had the oil changed in likely *far* too long. The seatbelt fasten light was always on, regardless of buckled in or not. After my search, I called Cmarr and briefly explained some of the symptoms to Eric over the phone. He took down my information and made an appointment for me to bring the car down to the shop. When I brought it in, we went over the symptoms briefly again. I received a call about two hours later with a detailed summary of what work was needed (new drive belt + cost, tune up + cost, oil change + cost). When I arrived, Eric went over the work done, including resealing one of the spark plugs that was leaky (previously un-discussed issue) and replacing *both* drive belts (instead of just one). (Thorough!!) Long story short, I got the car back in *far* better shape than I left it. Eric was helpful and thorough in the analysis of what the issues were and the recommended fixes. Based on my experience, I trust the fine folk at Cmarr to diagnose and successfully repair my Toyota. read more

Gahhh, it is SO hard not to give these guys 5 stars. I really wanted to. I called this place up after realizing we needed a new headgasket on our Subaru (shocking, right)? He helped assess over the phone (very knowledgeable, our car was very fickle and hard to diagnose because of very light symptoms, we caught it really early). I explained that we were on a pretty tight schedule, going on a road trip Saturday morning, so we dropped it off on a Wednesday. Long story short, they fixed the car, it appears to be great, and they only charged $1200 for a headgasket replacement! amazing! My only complaint is their response time on the phone. We dropped it that Wednesday at 8:30 am, they said they'd call me by that afternoon to let me know the prognosis. By noon the NEXT DAY I hadn't heard back, and left a couple of messages before having to call back that night after work. I finally reached someone, and we proceeded as planned, but I really expected to hear back that afternoon as they said. This is an excellent shop, really. Very nice guys, they do very good, experienced and reasonably priced work - as long as you're ok with delays on their communication I totally recommend them. read more

The C-Marr crew are very forthright, honest and dependable - they did a wonderful job on fixing my vehicle up and their estimates were spot-on. When evaluating cost, they even advised me that what I figured was a real problem with my vehicle was actually not a huge deal at all, and actually advised not fixing the problem if I didn't have to, as long as I monitored the problem...that's outstanding customer service for an automotive shop and is an example of their honesty.
