He knew my auto emissions would fail..and yet went ahead and did it..then charged me for fail emissions and added credit card fee.

Stay away at all costs! Please read to save yourself time, frustration, and money! We brought my daughters Subaru to Jeff's for a water pump/timing belt. Simple job. They put a hole through the block and damaged the engine. It gets worse! They took responsibility and replaced the motor with a trash motor from another car. Several weeks of waiting. After a few months the valve covers they just put on started to leak and the car started to over heat. I chased my tail for a couple weeks working on it replacing sensors and thermostats to no avail. We took it to Greg's Japanese Auto (Highly recommend!) and they diagnosed the car to have head gasket failure. Same head gaskets that were installed when they put the new block in. Another trip to Seattle, showed them the report from Greg's and they took responsibility and said they would replace the head gaskets. Another couple weeks of no car for my daughter. We went to pick it up and every warning light, check engine light, etc was illuminated on the dash. My daughter was in tears! We left the car and Jeff told us the codes were from the transmission and NOT the motor he just worked on. These codes never existed before another half-assed session of poor workmanship. We would have to pay him to work on the transmission. I brought the car home and took it back to Greg's to have it diagnosed again. They concurred that the transmission was an issue and would need to be replaced but they also checked the work on the head gaskets and block. They said the coolant was still testing for hydrocarbons which means the head gaskets are still bad or the block was cracked. We need a new transmission and a new engine! The car is a total loss because they couldn't do a simple water pump correctly and compounded the problem by not being competent mechanics. Please do not use this shop. read more

I came to Jeff's auto repair for synthetic oil change coupon special for $49.95. I brought in my oil filter because I know it would be extra and not knowing what they charge even though the coupon does include oil filter. I had to pay a total $101.37. The total extra oil is only $9.99. They use my oil filter too. When I ask why, the shop person B.D. say he included the discounted coupon already and no charge for oil filter. The total extra oil is only $9.99 base on the receipt and the total should be around $59.95, $49.95 plus $9.99 because I supply the oil filter. He became aggressive and told me each quart of extra oil to be $12.00 and said he doesn't make any money. I believe he just charged me the regular price of synthetic oil change without the coupon. Their charge is not transparent and they will nickel and dime. read more

I was charged a whopping $725 for replacing an alternator. Came in with the battery warning light on and talked to Brendan: " The battery warning light is on. The check engine light came on when the warning light came on, too. Check the alternator and battery." Brandon told me that a diagnosis would be performed at no charge. I asked very specifically about this. However, I was charged $66 for a diagnosis. Then $175 per hour for labor. $375 for just the alternator. With sales tax, the total bill came to $725.00. And now, one day later, the warning light is back on again. Steve, at the Sand Point location said, that an engine-warning light "has nothing to do with the alternator." Of course it does. How do I know they didn't install a faulty alternator? This place does not exactly fill you with confidence. Bottom line: These guys are incentivized with commissions to charge you as much as they can possibly squeeze out of you. At $175.00/hour for labor, why do they need to charge more money to diagnose an alternator and battery? If I have to pay extra for an in-depth diagnosis of my car's electrical system, which I've done at other service stations, that would be something of value I would pay for. But these guys did the bare minimum. At maximum price. There is no standard "book price." They charge what they feel like, depending on how desperate they think you are. I strongly recommend taking your car elsewhere. Also, important to know: Car owners have certain rights. I also recommend reading up on your rights when car repair shops take advantage of you. read more

Took my '02 Camry here back in 2012 because of strange throttle response. They charged $115 to plug an OBD code reader in and tell me "accelerator pedal needs replacement". Then attempted to quote me another $600+ parts/labor to replace it. I found the OEM part on Amazon for $250 and replaced it myself in about 10 minutes -- it was literally only two bolts and one connector in the footwell. Would have taken even less time if I'd had a proper socket extension. When I finished the DIY replacement I let them know how disappointing I found their initial quote. They gave me a sheepish shrug. I took that to mean "we didn't expect you to actually look it up". I have no concerns about the quality of the work they do, but after this experience I do not trust them to give fair and reasonable pricing. read more

I have been going to Jeff's for a few years now, to be honest mostly for the convenience of being across the street. However they really went above and beyond today. I brought my car in for an oil change and mentioned I work in healthcare as they had advertised 25% off services for Frontline workers. I was incredibly surprised to find that my oil change was in fact free. That was above and beyond the call of duty, and so very appreciated during these stressful times. Let's just say I deleted the rave review I originally wrote about this shop when the car they had just fixed stopped working the moment I got it home. I still have trouble turning the shitty key they replaced for me to "just the right spot" so that the lights and AC will actually work and the car will keep running, and that was the part they charged me 400 bucks to fix. The main problem seemed like the battery, and I had told them that I needed a new one. Guess what? My friend and I bought a brand new battery and jimmy-rigged it in there since the battery chord was pretty flimsy. With a twist tie, among other household items. And it has worked just fine ever since then. No thanks to Windemere. Sorry Forrest, you were the only nice one and the only person who tried to explain anything to me. Everyone else was terribly rude, apathetic, and seemed annoyed by my presence. Most people there made me feel like an idiot every time I called to discuss the problems I was having. Like it was my fault that my car wasn't working. Did you not believe me because I was a girl? Or did you just want to charge me more money? Whichever the case, I was bummed. I wanted to like this place, and I wanted to believe you. Not great customer service, and I feel like I was vastly overcharged for spotty work. It seemed like my initial experience with Forrest only was too good to be true (besides the epic price tag, of course), and I guess that my shaky first impression was unfortunately correct. read more

I completely agree with Steve P's Review (which said): "(1) the Windermere techs fixed things that needed to be fixed, but also missed some really broken and important pieces, (2) I think they're overpriced, (3) nobody knows how your car should feel better than you, the owner, so be skeptical when the mechanic says it feels fine". First, I chose them because they are part of the "Jeff's Mechanic Group" that specializes in Japanese cars, I drive a Nissan. I went out of my way to take it to Sand Point because of their reputation....if you don't live in Sand Point don't go here. They close at 5:30 and leave at 5:31. Seeing has how most people work until 5pm, getting there by 5:31 is not realistic. If you live in Sand Point, this will probably work out for your situation. Second, like Steve said they suggested 5 things that needed to be fixed, which is a huge blanket to throw over the problem, their ploy to A) make more money B) explain that they don't really know what the problem is. Finally, I quoted the 5 things on the list out to competitors and they were twice as expensive for all 5 things and the competing quotes I received came from "name-brand" places like Les Schwab, Schucks, Discount Tire, etc. To their credit, their staff is really nice and didn't charge me for the second round of diagnostics, they kept me up to date on their progress. read more

I stumbled across this place when I was pretty sure my muffler was going to fall off. It was nice and close and within walking distance to my house so I gave it a try. The guys that work there are really nice and know what they are doing. They don't over charge - they are keen are trying to get you to fix everything wrong with your car whether it needs it or not- but atleast they are thorough! During the January "blizzard," some "kind" stranger in my apartment complex decided to be "helpful" and put everyone's windshield wiper blades up for them. As he or she broke my windshield wiper blade in the process, and as I live in Seattle where you frequently need windshield wiper blades in January, this was decidedly unhelpful. I went to Windemere Auto Service the next day and while they didn't have the blades for my car-- Honda Civics have disproportionately gigantic windshields-- he was able to special order them from somewhere and get them in the next day. When I came in the next afternoon, he installed them for me within five minutes. Since it started raining again about thirty seconds after I left, this was awesome. Friendly quick service? I've taken my Wrangler to Windermere several times over the past 2 years. The first issue was a weird electrical issue- I *know* how tricky electrical issues can be to diagnose, and the guys were excellent at keeping me well informed about where they were at with the diagnosis. Long story short, they never did find what was wrong with my Jeep, but I have never had that problem again (super weird)... and Windermere didn't charge me a cent for *any* of the diagnostic work they did. Multiple months later, my steering column basically disintegrated (my Jeep seems to be plagued with strange, catastrophic issues). I had my Wrangler towed to Windermere, and they told me the steering column would have to be completely replaced. The guys searched high and low for a column that would work for my Jeep to no avail, but I eventually found one on Ebay and had it shipped to the shop. The replacement was quick and *much* cheaper than I had expected. I typically take my Jeep to a shop that's closer to my house, but I definitely love the service at Windermere. read more

My brakes started squeaking, so I gave this place a ring to see if they could take a look at them. They said "Sure! Swing by tomorrow morning!" So I did. A couple hours later I got an emailed invoice saying I needed new brake pads along with a few other things that could possibly need work. I stuck with just the brakes, and a couple hours later they called me saying everything was done and I was good to go! I have never been able to drop of my car, have a problem diagnosed, and then repaired within a matter of a few hours. Their customer service was nothing but friendly and professional. I'll probably be back here again next time my car starts acting up. read more

Booked a 9 am oil change and inspection appointment under the impression that my car would be "in and out" (that is what the guy told me over the phone; "wouldn't go past late morning"). I had also informed the guy that I would be waiting nearby while my car was being serviced. Day of: dropped my car off, walked up the street to local shops and browsed while waiting. 2.5 hours later I called to check on the status to which the guy told me that the technician was wrapping up and that he would write an estimate of suggested services that they found upon inspection. 45 minutes later, I called again to which the guy basically said the same thing as the last time (car was done, needed to write an estimate). I explained that I really couldn't wait much longer as I was under the impression that this would be a quick service (I've never had a place take 3.5 hours for an oil change/inspection) and I had plans that afternoon. I suggested that I could come back later to pick up the estimate or he could take a picture of it and text it to me later when it was ready. Walked to the shop 10 minutes later and the guy hands me my receipt and as I'm reviewing it looking for the estimate, he asked me if he could help me with anything. I said that I was just looking for the estimate of suggested services to which he responded in a very rude, snarky, short tone "I didn't write one up cause you didn't have the time. If you give me ten more minutes, I can write one up". Mind you, I had called two times prior (an hour ago and 15 minutes ago) and he said he was going to write it up then so he had plenty of time to get this done. I had pointed out that I called him an hour ago and was inquiring as to why it wasn't done during that time to which he became argumentative and denied the fact that it was an hour ago. I again suggested that I come back or that he text me a picture of the estimate and he outright refused. He was rude, unapologetic, inflexible and I was not impressed. I just walked out at that point. Fortunately, I got the oil change and inspection for free based on a coupon that I used; I would've hated to give this place my money for such poor customer service. Many things could've been done differently but alas, the guy (bald older man with white hair and glasses and a bad attitude) chose otherwise. Don't make promises you can't keep, and then don't get sassy and argue with the customer when they express frustration. 1/11 update: Steve called me and apologized. He also emailed me the estimate as well. So I am appreciative of that so thank you Steve. read more

I had been coming to Jeff's Auto for around 2 years for a variety of services on our vehicles. Recently, we had an issue with our car wherein the engine was experience uneven idling, rocky shifting and triggering of the traction control. We had just had our brake system and fuel injection system serviced at Jeff's so we took it back to them to have it fixed. The reported problem was that the PCV valve was stuck open. They replaced the valve (free of charge) and sent me on my way. A week later the same issue was reported and I again took the vehicle back to Jeff's. The vehicle was held overnight (a rental was provided) and returned the next day. When I went to pick up the vehicle, it did not start and then the check engine light came on (while still at the shop). Tim gave me a jump and cleared the codes then sent me on my way. Less than 24 hrs after leaving the shop, the same issue occurred again. At this point, I decided to take the vehicle somewhere else for a fresh set of eyes. The following issues were reported by the new shop (not Jeff's): battery was failing, water pump housing was cracked, throttle sensor was faulty and the brake system had higher than normal water content. NONE of these issues were communicated to me by Jeff's AND one of the services that we had previously paid for had to be redone by another shop. After having the new shop fix all of these issues, the vehicle is operating properly. The poor performance of Jeff's saddens me because I had been a loyal customer for some time and wanted to support them. However, after these recent experiences, I felt like their service has declined and they ended up not fixing the issue causing my car to not perform as expected. I will never go back to Jeff's for any auto service. read more

I brought my VW Eurovan into Jeff's and had an overall good experience. The customer service here is great, and their flexibility was instrumental in getting the van back when I needed it for a trip. I brought it in to fix the valve cove gasket, AC, and front axles. Every step of the way as they diagnosed they would update me with the results as they diagnosed it. Ultimately the problem with the AC wasn't able to be discovered despite their best efforts, and I was pleased when they didn't even bill me for the time they spent diagnosing it. Tim the acting manager there was gracious and very professional. He was able to get the car in the day after I called and I got it back in less than a week. Upon driving the van back to my house, the front right axle shafts started shuddering and squealing whenever I would turn, so I took it back and they immediately looked at it to diagnose the problem. They even paid for an Uber ride home for me while they looked at it. After a few minutes they realized it was just the ABS Tone Rings left on the shafts, and in less than an hour it was fixed and ready to be picked up. Driving it since then has been great, and the customer service I experienced there was the best part. Thank you to Tim, Dean, and everyone at Jeff's! read more

For years I have had very good experience with Jeff's in Lynnwood. So I recommended that my young Chinese scholar friend take her 1999 VW there for service. We had a terrible experience. They kept changing the estimates, and the bill began to climb into the thousands. When the bill reached $1970, the manager told me verbally that if she just left the car, they would keep it and not charge. Unfortunately, I had nothing in writing and, thinking the car would be repaired, my friend paid the bill and was unable to get a refund. After putting nearly two thousand dollars into the car (which the manager knows is not worth nearly that much!) when my friend drove it home it stalled and was leaking water. So it's not drivable, and she should not put more money into it. I believe that Jeff's took advantage of her naivety and limited English. read more

I recently was t boned in my car so I'm driving a rental car, bummer I know. This morning the light indicating low air in my tire was on so I pulled into the Windermere 76 station to get a bit of air. The air compressor wasn't working correctly at the pump so I flagged over the mechanic that was working in the garage. He walked over and confirmed that the compressor was broken. I asked him if they repaired tires at this station? He said yes! I then asked if this compressor isn't working then where do you fill up the tires you repair? Oh we have a compressor in the garage we use. Great! Might I be able to use that real quick to get a bit of air in my tire? Um we are real busy right now and our auto bays are full so no! Wow, really? I won't be coming back there anytime soon for any type of auto maintenance what so ever or gas. read more

This place is good for oil changes and simple things like that, especially if you have a coupon. For bigger things, my experience has been very negative. In general, I think they're overpriced ad try to get you to do a lot of services your car doesn't need. I took my car in for the commuter special, which is an oil change plus some other basic things they check. Their recommendation was to get all of my major fluids flushed along with charging $230 to diagnose a check engine light problem. Feeling this was overpriced I shopped around and got a much better deal at a local Honda dealership, who flat out said that flushing all the fluids wasn't necessary unless the maintenance lights were on in the dash (which they weren't). Also, their engine diagnosis was half as much as what Windermere was offering. The people are nice enough, but I'm not coming back here other than for the occasional oil change. read more

I didn't want to have to write a review on Yelp but couldn't find the owner of the company to write to. I don't know what happened to the wonderful people and service. I have been a loyal customer of Jeff's for 3 cars now. I started in Renton, WA and they were so good to me. They explained what was happening and always let me know the cost and ever worked with me on payment one time when I couldn't afford the total. Because of them, I knew I would stay loyal because they treated me well and with respect. Unfortunately, I got older and moved out of Renton and started taking my car to Jeff's on Sandpoint Way. Two years ago I went in and was not treated to the usual customer service and was charged more than I ever had been. That was OK because I had a better car but I started looking around for another service. Yesterday I went in for something I view as pretty simple for a Auto Service. My bucket seat in my Mini Cooper was jammed in the back position. I could not get it to move forward. Steve answered my 8am call and told me to bring it in, I did. I was not talked to, I was not given an estimate. He said to just leave it and they would take a look at it. I did. I called at 1:00pm to see what was going on and Steve told me "the guys are at lunch, your next when they get back" He wasn't going to give more than that and I could tell he was in a bad mood, so I waited. I called back at 4:00pm to see if I could get my car back today. Steve told me it was ready. Well, because I had to take the bus I was at the shop about 1 hour later and they were just pulling my car out when I got off the bus. I went in the office and observed the worker trying to get my seat out of the back position and pull it forward. He couldn't do it. When Steve came in the building to ring me up, I said, "its not fixed" he told me that it was and they had it moving back and forth before I came in. He said let me take a look. As he walked out the door with me right behind him, he closed the door on me as he walked out. I went out anyway. They tried a few more times to get the seat to move forward and it wouldn't budge. The worker in the car said the bar was broken. Steve said it needed to go to the dealership. Steve said he wouldn't charge me. Today, I took the car to the Mini dealership. Very nice guy, at 6:15am, said let me take a look. The he went in and got another person. They took my car in their shop and used a blower to blow out a pen that was in the track. All fixed. No charge. I want to thank Jeff's in Renton for all they did for me over the years. I can't help but wonder how much they would have charged me for not fixing my car. read more

I can't begin to explain how much of a SCAM!!! this place is. I took my car in to have them take a look at what the problem was. 8 hours and $230 dollars later (just to look at the car) I was told in order to fix it it was going to run me around $1700. I took my car to a more reputable place for a second opinion the following day. 15 mins and $0 dollars later they told me in order to fix my car it was only going to run me around $400 dollars. They fixed it up in 3 hours and now my car runs fine. No problems, just smooth sailing. My recommendation, stay far, far, FAR!!! away from the dishonest, will-try-and-play-you-for-a-sucker crooks at jeff's auto. read more

We have brought four different cars in for tune-ups and fixes to Jeff's over the last 7 years and everyone we have dealt with has been friendly and is great at communicating the exact issues and costs up front. When my car was making a funny noise just after taking it in to another shop to have it fixed, Forrest listened to it for me, diagnosed the issue, and suggested I take it back to where it was previously fixed. He was correct as to what the issue was and he helped make me feel confident to go back to the shop and ask for the problem to be solved. With a different car that was about to die, rather than charge us for costly fixes, he recommended that it was truly time to part ways with it. He was so nervous to have me even drive it home, he insisted that we have a tow truck haul it away. It was clear he was more concerned about my well-being than making a buck trying to fix a car that truly wasn't worth fixing. We love Jeff's because they are honest and don't overcharge for things that truly don't need to be worked on, but they are upfront and dedicated to ensuring that if there are issues with the car that need to be taken care of right away, that those get taken care of. We love Jeff's Auto Repair in Windermere and will continue to take all of our cars there. They've worked on our BMW, 2 Ford's and Nissan - they are good with any type of car. They are also really great with reminders and coupons when your car is due for a service! I would highly recommend this repair shop! read more

I was selling my Volkswagen to a private party and he wanted it to be checked at Windermere. I ad no issue with that in that the previous week I had the van completely checked over at a local VW dealer and the results of their thorough inspection were that I possibly could use new ball joints in the front. You know how some dealers can be, so I was pleasantly surprised that after there total assessment the ball joints were all they could find wrong with my vehicle. So, with the dealer evaluation, I had no qualms about my prospective purchaser taking the vehicle to Windermere and was rather confident on the outcome. I asked the purchaser if Windermere was familiar with older VW's and he said he was not sure. That should have been my first clue as to the eventual outcome. When I dropped my VW van off early for them to do their evaluation all day, I asked the fellow in the office if he ever worked on my type of vehicle. He mentioned that they had worked on VW's previously, but not one quite like mine. Second clue. Well when I went back that afternoon to get my vehicle and see their report, I immediately knew there was something wrong with my perspective buyer. He said he had spoken with the mechanic earlier and they had already given him a preliminary report. Windermere found the following: Dirty transmission fluid (it had been changed within the past month). The van shifted differently when coming to a stop and in up shifting (I mentioned this to my VW mechanic and he laughed). They said the timing belt and serpentine belts may need to be replaced (I showed them the receipt from the dealer that this was done within the last 3,000 miles). It was apparent they never inspected these items, as the bottom skid plate was not removed, which would have had to be done to at least inspect the serpentine belt. I don't believe the mechanic knew what a skid plate was or how to remove it from the underside for inspection. They said the brake pedal travels far? What do they mean by far? The vehicle had brand new brakes that were installed by a dealer. They mistook wax residue for paint overspray and brought up the idea that they vehicle may have been in an accident to my purchaser. This is the best one: They said no codes were coming up on the scan check. Don't codes usually present themselves when something is wrong. Were they looking for a code that said "all is well". But then, they probably did not know where to plug in their scan device. As a previous party has mentioned, these guys should only be used for oil changes, if that. read more

So, one day the inevitable happened. The car wouldn't start. So we called up the auto service we had coupons for, Windermere Auto Service. An appointment was made swiftly. So, good rating for that. Service was friendly... (At first), so that's a plus. Price, pretty good. So, what was the problem here? Well, we went to pick up the car, and all seemed fine until we heard a knocking sound. Confused, we returned to the auto shop and told them the problem. The guy (different one from before) seemed skeptical that we were telling the truth until he took it for a test drive and must of heard it for himself because he pulled it into the mechanics workshop. Turns out they forgot to tighten the lug nuts! (Basically they didn't tighten up our tires!) A basic mistake but a a serious one. This skeptical guy, even after he was proved wrong was pretty nonchalant about all this. Overall, quick service, decent price, 50/50 friendliness. But the question is; should quick, affordable service come at the cost of sloppy mistakes? read more

The best!!!!!!!! these are the guys that you'll miss when you move away and can't find a mechanic you trust, so you'll end up driving all the way back to Seattle just for your car repairs because you know they'll be honest about what needs to be done, do a great job, and still charge you less than everyone else. Every scheduled maintenance or repair that I've had done here has been quicker, cheaper and far more pleasant than expected, so no more of the dreaded days waiting at the delearship. Today I was doing a long list of errands and my car's turn signal burnt out- I pulled in to Jeff's as it was on the way and they replaced it plus put in a fresh battery for my car key and I was back out on the road in less than 5 minutes. My husband purchased a service pack a year ago where we pre-buy service maintenance for our vehicle. We figured it was a good deal considering how close the station is in proximity to our house. I've been in for 3 services. The biggest pain of working with them, is they require your vehicle to be in the shop a full-day for something as simple as a standard oil change. This place was pretty horrible. They were dishonest, charged too much and did nothing. They charged more than a hundred dollars an hour probably sniffing glue. I am sure they do some things right so they can look for a person to occasionally rip off. I feel bad for the owner (Jeff)of the chain that claims customer service satisfaction. Forest, Skyler and Tommy should form a band and get out of the auto racket. read more

I got a flat tire on the way to work (for the first time ever), and luckily I stopped near Windermere. I was able to drive it the short distance and the guy was nice enough to put on my spare free of charge so I could go somewhere cheaper for new tires :) they are so nice and honest! Sure their version of my tire was more expensive but they told me I would be able to get it cheaper somewhere else (which I wouldn't have known unless they said something). Very honest business. read more
