I want to leave an amazing review for this place. I did not know anything about them and found them through Yelp. I called and spoke with Sebastian who told me to come in to fix my problem. My problem was that the middle seat of the second row in my minivan was stuck. It's called the jump seat and the ribbon pull the latch to disconnect. The middle seat from the side seat had fallen through. It was a matter of pulling the ribbon through so that we could unlatch the seat. It was a bit of an emergency because I do carpool for my son and his classmates and I needed the minivan fully functional by that afternoon. Sebastian told me to come in and I was there within 15 minutes and he fixed a problem within another 15 minutes and had the best attitude and was super, super helpful and really reminded me of amazing customer service that nowadays can be hard to find. Total waste of time. I scheduled an oil change and brought their own 49.95 coupon from their website. When I arrived, they suddenly claimed it does not apply to my completely standard Honda HR-V because it needs synthetic oil, even though the coupon never clearly says that. Hiding vague restrictions in tiny print is not transparency. Their solution was 6 dollars off. That felt insulting. I walked out and got the job done at American Tire Stores for 25 dollars less with clear pricing and better service. And judging by other reviews here, including people being charged sky-high prices for so-called special oil, this is not an isolated issue. Extremely Disappointed! I've been a loyal customer of Akey Brakey for years because they've always been fair and dependable. That's why I felt comfortable sending my daughter there for her very first oil change--especially with a $44.95 coupon from their own website. To my shock, she was charged $160, allegedly due to "special oil." Wanting to be fair, I double-checked online and even called a VW dealership--and the cost of this so-called "special oil" is nowhere near 400% more. I gave Akey Brakey the opportunity to correct the overcharge, but they responded with a token refund that felt more like an insult than an apology. It's incredibly disappointing to see a trusted business take advantage of a young woman, especially during her first experience with car maintenance. I don't know if management has changed, but this isn't the Akey Brakey I used to trust. I won't be coming back--and I'll be sharing this experience with others. read more

I have a small collection of classic cars and often it's difficult to find someone who is willing to work on them. As a result I do not get to enjoy them as much as I would like to. Recently, after a disc brake conversion on my 1970 Toyota FJ40, the brakes still were not performing as they should have and I did not feel safe driving it. On the suggestion of a friend I reached out to Akey Brakey to see if they could help out. They assured me they could. They had the FJ for a couple days (keeping me in the loop the entire time) and then called me to let me know it was ready to be picked up. Being both optimistic and a little skeptical at the same time, I went and got it. As I was driving it back to my shop I noticed how the pedal felt consisently firm and they brakes stopped the FJ without a pull in either direction and without the rears locking up. This was a really good sign. They didn't stop particularly quickly, but I knew that the new pads and rotors would need to wear into one another and that if things stayed like they were it shouldn't be a problem. As expected, after about 50 miles the brakes felt even better and I felt safe driving it! So safe that after about 100 miles I took my kids for a drive in it. Fast forward four weeks and I took my '56 T-Bird out for a spin. This car doesn't get driven much at all. On average about 100 miles a year which is not good for a car. Lack of use is often worse that excessive use. Things seemed ok but after someone pulled in front of me and I had to hit the brakes pretty hard, the right rear wheel didn't seem to want to release. Having had good luck previously with Akey Brakey, I gave them a call and asked if they could help. Once again they assured me they could. They determined that the rear wheel cylinders had seized from lack of use and that in driving it back to my workshop I had overheated the rear drums causing them to warp. They were too warped to resurface so they would need to be replaced along with the rear wheel cylinders. I provided them with a source for those parts and they found one as well. After doing a price comparison (and we're talking about the same Ford OEM parts, not Chinese-made knockoffs) they found that their source could provide a better price than mine. For this repair they had the car for about a week, waiting for parts but always keeping me in the loop about the status. When they told me the car was ready I went and picked it up. I've had this car since 1999 and it was like I was driving a totally different car. Maybe it's me but everything felt tighter and more sure footed. Also, I had an electric fuel pump installed a couple years ago to assist the mechanical one mounted to the engine, but it kind of always rattled on the frame rail. Unbeknownst to me, they remounted the pump and the rattle was gone. This was just a really nice added bonus I didn't have to pay for. I guess it drove the tech nuts too! The car that got driven a 100 miles a year on average has had 500 or so clicks added to the odometer since Akey Brakey worked on it. Since the rattle is gone and the brakes feel better than ever, it's a joy to drive. Thanks to Akey Brakey, two classics that seldom got used are now two of my favorites to get out and take for a spin. They made me love my cars even more and that in itself was worth every penny! I brought my car to Akey Brakey when the AC was not blowing cold air. I paid over $1,250 for the AC diagnosis, and to remove and replace the AC Compressor and AC Condenser in May 2024. It is now 1 year later, May 2025, and the compressor that was installed by Akey Brakey has completely stopped working. I was told that the part was an inferior product and that I now need another new compressor! I have seen the owner comment to another reviewer that, "We don't like to use inferior or cheap parts". I would like a response as to why the new compressor that was installed in my car only lasted 1 year and how to file a claim for the inferior product that I was installed in my car. read more

I've got older vehicles: a 2016 F-150 and a 2013 Highlander. They repaired a coolant leak, replaced turbo lines and gaskets, timing system mechanisms (a 10 hour job), an intermittent parasitic battery drain, and the standard oil changes. I took a car loan out with akey brakey for $3,500. I have been using Akey Brakey for 23 years. I am a good customer and always pay my bills. The loan company would not give me my loan number to release my car. Akey Brakey had to do this, and Akey Brakey said to me, I have to get the number. The Loan company wouldnt give me the loan number. Akey Brakey didnt know how to get the loan number. Akey Brakey should have known the procedure to get a loan number so the loan can be paid to pick up my car. I should not have had to go through all this aggravation. The lady at Akey Brakey, Michele said without a loan number I can not get my car. That meant I would have to wait 7 to 10 days to get a loan number in the mail, and I WOULD BE HOSTAGE WITHOUT A CAR I called the loan company and they told me AKEY BRAKEY should do this, and should know how to get the loan number. I had to give Akey Brakey the number to call to get my loan number. The lady Michele at Akey brakey then said the owner was too busy to call. I needed to have my car to get to an appointment. I had to call the loan company again and did a 3 three way call so Akey Brakey got the Loan Number. After 23 years of using this place, they would not release my car until I got the number which could be 7 to 10 business days I WOULD BE HOSTAGE WITHOUT A CAR. AFTER 23 YEARS OF KNOWING ME, AND THAT I AM HONEST GOOD CUSTOMER, AND I WOULD GIVE THEM MY CARD NUMBER LATER if that happened, THEY WOULD NOT RELEASE MY CAR WITHOUT THE LOAN CARD NUMBER THEY DID NOT TRUST ME TO RELEASE THE CAR , WHICH OBVIOUSLY THEY WOULDNT ACCOMODATE ME UNLESS THEY WERE PAID ON THE SPOT TO GET MY CAR. Just came in here 15 minutes before closing, rushed to get a smog check. When we arrive they tell me their machine is off ? Yet they are not closed . Then they say they are by appointment and I respond, that is not what says on your website, it states no appointments needed. He said oh I'm sorry, and offered another appointment. It's unacceptable. If you don't operate 15 min before closing then state that and please refrain from falsely adverting that there is no appointment needed!!! My only complaint, if this is even a valid complaint, is that I asked how long it would take and was told 20-30 minutes. I came without an appointment, so I didn't know what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised to be told up to 30 minutes. My issue is that it actually took about 60 minutes (I lost track of the time). And I had to alter my morning plans. Certainly not the end of the world, but nonetheless an inconvenience. And no one checked on what was taking so long while I waited in the waiting area. Thank you so much for working with my schedule and emergency!! My vacuum pump broke which caused my break peddle not to work (YIKES and Hello LA freeway !!). Anyway, polite, clean, reasonable turn around time, and easy to work with! Also, I love the location right at the 101 freeway offramp at Chesebro Road, so no wasted time driving far off to get there. I will definitely be using them again! But one big issue for those of us who lived back in the earlier 90s and listen to lots of music and have it all in our memory banks... This local family owned and operated repair shop is top notch. I had extensive work completed (new water pump, new timing chain, front brakes pads and rotors turned, new motor mounts, oil change, check engine lights reset and more ). First: They assigned one mechanic to my job. Amazing! This means there aren't multiple persons causing confusion (mine took 12+ hours); only one point person in the event there were questions during the job and in the future. Basically: Someone actually knows your vehicle. None of that "oh I didn't do that part it was so and so and they aren't here" or pointing the finger at someone else to talk to. Next: They ordered parts ahead of time so to have the car fixed with least amount of down time. Bottom line on the work: they said what they would do and they did it. The front desk communications was excellent and Abraham in the shop was professional, friendly and able to communicate in detail all the mechanical questions when we spoke before, during and after. My Catalytic Converter was stolen from my Prius! I had been to Akey Brakey only two weeks before for other maintenance. But now I was desperate and the dealerships said they couldn't get the part for 6-8 months! Um, huh??? Luckily Akey Brakey had an after market part that they could install. They *looked* cranking busy, but they took my car immediately and they were *super* quick! They had a waiting room with A/C. And both the cashier and the tech were very friendly. My car is a 2003 911 Carrera with 190K miles, and the DMV required a "STAR" station test, so I was a bit nervous. But my car passed easy-breezy. I took my 2016 Toyota 4Runner here after the dealership told me during a routine oil change that I needed to replace both upper front ball joints and both outer tie-rod ends and that either would necessitate an alignment. The price for all this was $2700...I don't know anything about cars or what any of that stuff is but this didn't sound right to me given that the car has just over 54,000 miles on it. As per my normal protocol when at the mechanic, I called my dad who told me to decline all of it and leave. They checked my car and verified that the repairs I was told were needed ASAP were not needed at all!!!! They did recommend an alignment and a fuel induction decarbon service which I agreed to.
