The service was very good and efficient! The restaurant was a little dim but the bathroom was pretty clean! My friend group of 5 was at a round table so we all fit well. The lunch special was affordable; I got the $13.50 4 pc of Nigiri and a California roll + an extra 2 pieces of smoked salmon Nigiri. Overall, everything went well and I will be back!

Omg. Absolutely loved this place. The vibes on the inside were very cute. Not a super upscale place, but it's themed very well on the inside. Almost like a nicer version of a mom and pops restaurant is the best way I can describe it. The food was really good as well. We also had mochi after our dinner which was tasty too! Even though they were pretty busy (I mean every table was taken) the service was fast. OH I almost forgot. We started with the crab Rangoons and they were TO DIE FOR. best crab Rangoon's I have in a while. It was unreal. Already want to go back!!!!

Really great service. The avocado sushi I had was excellent along with the tea. The pad Thai was probably one of my least favorites that I've had. It was ok, I am sure I will eat the leftovers, but I wouldn't order it in the future. Cute restaurant. Nice that they are open till 10.

The food here is really good, the sushi is fresh and the rice is cooked perfectly. The miso soup was amazing. My only problem was the service was horrible. I have been here before and the service wasn't bad.

Service was great! It wasn't busy but regardless, our waitress was very sweet and attentive. The food was also pretty good - I will say the Drunken noodles are a little sweeter than I'm used to. I would come back again to try more things from their menu, right now I only came in for the lunch special, which was a great deal! $12 for a lunch portion or drunken noodles and either miso soup or ginger salad as a side comes with it.

I like how they both have thai food and sushi here. I ordered the red curry with chicken but it didn't fully taste authentic as I hoped. The sushi was good. Their place is clean and perfect for a casual asian dinner. Overall, the service is good.

We waited 10 minutes after we placed our miso soup order and found out it wasn't placed so we placed it again, no problem. The big issue was then being left again for 15 minutes before placing our food order, and then not get checked on after still not receiving our food for another 20. We noticed other tables around us got their food in a timely manner, so we tried to wave down our server. She instead ignored us, and we finally could wave down another server asking about our food. She was apologetic in saying that the printer was at the end of its roll and thus our order wasn't printed out. I do get it, but we proceeded to wait another 30 minutes for our food to come out. In this instance, you would think our order would be made ahead of all of the other tickets since we've been there for almost an hour at this point. Nope! Our server never apologized and said she was 'surprised' the food was taking a while. Why wouldn't you check with the BOH if your table isn't getting their food? When we did actually get the food, it was okay. Our deep fried rolls tasted of old fryer oil, the regular rolls were better. I've never experienced such abysmal service before.

New management cut down on portion sizes, and upped the prices. This was mine and my husband's favorite place with the old staff so much so that the guy who used to answer the phone knew our order without saying us saying anything. Food is still good but the portion sizes and price is like a slap in the face. They got half the size to go containers. They're very slim and have actually never seen this slim of containers anywhere. Very sad that for less food, you have to pay significantly more.

Food was ok but there were three people working when we were there and all of them were addicted to their phones. That kinda created a weird/dead atmosphere at the restaurant since their lighting was already dark. Our server was a Chinese lady and she was very short with her answers and not helpful for us. We had a young child traveling with us so I asked her if they offer an option to order a boiled egg or some extra pieces of avocado. She said "No, we don't have avocado." first so I asked her to ask the kitchen if there's a way since THEY SELL SUSHI ROLLS with avocados everywhere...lol The sushi chef said "yes" for avocados & we were happy to pay for it. I would give 5 stars IF they had a professional server but that wasn't the case so I had to give 3 and these stars are for the food. Thank you, chef. We enjoyed your food!

End piece of delicious deep fried dirty mouth roll

I really loved every bite I had here. As portions were ginormous, those were a lot of bites. I wasn't expecting much from this Asian fusion place but I wanted sushi or Japanese and my husband did not want to drive too far. Yelping it, this place was the sweet spot. Close and variety in case the hubs wasn't feeling my cravings. I thought for sure he'd opt for Thai but instead he was studying the Japanese selections he pointed out the bento boxes and all the variety. At this point I was married to getting a dirty mouth roll. He said go ahead, we will split it and we can both get bento boxes too. Yikes too much food. We did it. No regrets, just lots of leftovers. The deep fried dirty mouth roll was full of flavors with that amazing contrast of crispy outside, soft inside covered in rich eel sauce and creamy spicy mayo. A winner. The miso soup here is yummy. My husband is not a fan of miso so double bonus for me, he can have my salad. The box was filled. 3 shrimp tempura, tempura veggies, 4 fried dumplings, 2 shumai, a spring roll, rice, fruit and a deep fried California roll. The California roll was a sweet substitute suggested by the waitress, you can pretty much get any roll within reason. Amazing! We were stuffed and happy. We took home some ton katsu to my pork loving dad and got my mom her own bento. To go was packed perfectly and was as generously portioned as dine in. You cannot go wrong here. We are already planning our next visit.

It is located on Ford Rd, with IKEA, Carvel, and Buffalo Wild Wings serving as landmarks. The restaurant is dark, which always makes me a bit uneasy. Some chefs/owners may claim that it sets a mood, but I feel that it hides dirt and makes it challenging to discern ingredients. I quickly reviewed the menu and then carefully read all the ingredients to ensure that nothing I ordered contained salmon (an unfortunate allergy) and cream cheese. The latter because, after many, many attempts, I just don't like that ingredient in sushi rolls. I ordered the Tiger and Sunflower rolls. The Tiger roll starts with shrimp tempura wrapped with cucumber strips, crab stick, and eel, topped with more shrimp, avocado, and eel sauce. I also ordered the Sunflower roll and requested that the salmon be removed. It contained a mosaic of fish: white fish, tuna, yellowtail, escolar, (cooked) shrimp, crab stick, as well as avocado, and tamago. So very pretty. The Sunflower roll was, sadly, very bland. I don't think it was because of the missing salmon. I did like the Tiger roll, though. The mackerel sashimi and tamago also hit the spot, as they always do. Service was lovely. The servers were friendly and responsive. They quickly got take-out orders for the steady stream of customers.

After graduating my girlfriend [now wife] and I would make it a point to try and eat at Matsu-Chan when in the area, even after our first kiddo, and eventually our second. Last year before one of our trips to the area my wife let me know that they were under new management and when I looked at the new menu, I was saddened that all of my favorite items were no longer present, and it seemed that my beloved little slice of Japan was now "just" a ramen shop. While my wife loves and can handle ramen and the broth, I would typically get the different rice bowls, or other entrees because while I love me some good ramen it doesn't work out well for me with the hour or so trip to the area. We'd get some rolls, takoyaki, and other appetizers to share around the table before digging into our main entrees. With the increased prices, and fewer options, I will end up going to any of the multitude of places [Aji-ten is usually our #2] to get my kick. I'll miss the little shop and the times I've had, like perusing the manga while waiting for a table. I wish the old owners the best, and the new management as well, especially if it was a familial transfer, but Matsu-Chan is not for me anymore. My wife will eventually get up there and let me know how it is, but for now, I'm just happy that a little bento shop opened near my workplace run by two first gen transplants, so I can at least get my fix without the drive.

These were not handmade and seemed to be similar to what I have purchased at COSTCO. Just CABBAGE inside both of them. It's a standalone structure with its own dedicated parking lot which was a plus. Upon entering, you informed the host if you wanted hibachi cooking for your meal or not. That would take you to the left or the right (hibachi) dining room for seating. The interior decor was lit up with neon lighting. It made the ambiance feel like you were stuck in the past. My friend and I came for a weekday lunch and elected not to do hibachi. During our visit, we were the only ones seated in the left dining room. The menu was contained within a multi-page booklet with lots of categories. Maybe that was part of the problem at Ichiban as the choices were too diverse. I ended up picking one of the five selections from the Udon Noodles or Soba part of the menu. The Nabe Yaki Udon was made up of udon noodles in a soup with shrimp tempura, chicken, fish cake, vegetable, and a poached egg. While waiting for our main courses, a complimentary dish of salad with ginger dressing was provided to each of us. My food came in two parts with the two pieces of shrimp tempura being served on its own dish. The bowl of noodles was placed on a plate as a holder. For $19.99, the portion size was small. The broth was mild and non-spicy while the rest was fairly standard. The tempura was the best part of my lunch which was not what I had hoped for. What led me to downgrade our dining experience to below three stars was the 20% gratuity that was added to our check. Nowhere was it stated on the menu that such a policy would be implemented. I rarely see this for a party of two as most restaurants don't automatically include a prespecified tip unless the group is six or more. The practice is also more customary at upscale establishments which Ichiban Hibachi Steakhouse and Sushi Bar was clearly not.
