Typically I'd give Akina 5 stars, any day, and challenge you to a sushi competition with your local favorite. I'm, however, leaving it at 4 stars for now as my last dining experience was not what I considered "up to par" for this establishment. There was something definitely off with our rolls but I couldn't put my finger on what it was exactly. I've dined here 100+ times and never been disappointed. After my next visit I will revise this review in hopes that it was just an "off night." read more

We initially came here about a month and a half ago. Just driving by and wanting to try a new place. Since then we have come by at least once a week (10 times in a two months). My wife usually gets the Singapore noodles and I usually get the General Tsos chicken. By far best General Tsos I have found anywhere. I have also tried the teriyaki beef and tonight I had the lemongrass chicken. Thrilled with everything. Only item I didn't care for last time was the Akina fried rice but everything else we've tried has been fantastic. Service has always been great and prices are very reasonable. This was our first time here but it won't be our last. This is a slightly upscale restaurant. Very airy and nice, simple decor. The staff was very friendly and attentive. We had the shrimp and vegetable tempura as an appetizer, very nice. Then we shared the Honey Garlic Chicken and Double Oriental Wonder. Both dishes came with rice and vegetables. We had one with white rice and another with fried rice. I liked their fried rice best. Both dishes were absolutely delicious. The chicken dish had a lot of large, thin slices of chicken that were deep fried, and very tender and tasty. The Oriental Wonder had large shrimp and very large scallops that were perfectly cooked. Soooo good! Portions were good sized and great for sharing. We ended up with leftovers. This is now one of our new favorite restaurants. read more

What a nice surprise for central Florida. Enjoyed a great meal while visiting friends in Clermont. Delicious and fresh sushi with very creative and inspired rolls. I love Japanese food. This was recommended to us so we gave it a try. Looking at the menu, I was confused on what kind of restaurant this was. They have a sushi bar but their menu is all mixed. It's Japanese, Korean, Chinese and there is even an Indian appetizer. I must say, I have eaten in many many restaurants and this place is wayyyy OVERPRICED. Their sushi menu is ridiculously high. The only explanation I can think of is, they are surrounded by a golf and retirement neighborhood and those people have no idea they are paying way too much. I skipped on the sushi because I refuse to pay for something that I can for much less with excellent quality such as Mikado sushi in Orlando @Metro West area. To my surprise, the lunch menu was more appealing than what they offer at dinner time. They don't even serve Shrimp tempura or any tempura at all during Dinner. Ridiculous right? All they have for dinner are overpriced items. Salmon teriyaki at $22.99, are you kidding me? I ordered Spicy Korean Noodle soup, which sucked. It had 4 small shrimp. 3 out of 4 shrimp tasted like water. There was zero flavor on that tiny overcooked shrimp. It's like they boiled it and decided to add it afterwards. Maruchan ramen at 15cents tasted better. My husband ordered the Mongolian Beef, which was not good either. (If you want Mongolian Beef, go to PF Changs, its excellent!) Son ordered Pad thai (no other noodle dishes was appealing), so he ordered something more familiar. It was too sweet and the noodles they used were wide egg noodles. Sigh... We also sat in the back and there were 2 flies circling around my table and the table next to me. I kept fanning myself so it doesn't land on my food. When she came by to check on our food, I told her there were 2 flies and even pointed one at her. She smiled and ignored. Not even an apology or an attempt to do anything. Asking us if we want to move to another table would be nice...but nope, she did absolutely NOTHING. Imagine what else is flying around especially the kitchen and they would totally ignore it. I will never go back to this place. I hate to say it but I really don't understand all the 4 and 5 stars for this place. Also, when we first entered, there were 2 women: one older Asian woman and a young woman. The older Asian lady just looked at us, not even a smile. She looked like the manager, could be the owner. You'd think if you are the owner, you'd welcome your guests right? Nope, not here. Sorry, but you lost my business and I eat out a lot! read more

One of my favorite Gems in Clermont. After living in Cali this place reminds me of restaurants in Southern California. Even though the atmosphere is casual it has a tasteful ambiance that can easily go from walk in to a more dressed up evening. The food consistently never disappoints. My parents took us here for the first time. From beginning to end it was a perfect experience. Out waiter was very polite and very attentive. I began with the house sale. The ginger dressing was very good and not extremely strong. I had the General Tsos chicken with fried rice. It is probably the best General Tsos that I have ever had. It was delicious. My so had the miso soup, pork dumplings and sushi. Everything was to perfection. read more

Not the best sushi ever but pretty good and perhaps best at least in the Clermont area which doesn't admittedly have a lot in terms of sushi. Very fresh and decent service. No complaints. We were originally looking for a local dog friendly sushi spot and what we found was also an authentic, classy, delicious, customer service oriented dining spot that we will make sure to visit each and every time we come to town. The miso soup is one of the best we have ever had, edamame cooked to perfection...we ordered 3 different rolls one of which was recommended by the waitress, the honeymoon roll, was by far our favorite of all times. Delishious sushi. Only thing keeping this from being 5-star is this is my first review, and I can't let the first review get a perfect score. That said, this place did inspire me to post my first review. Tons of variety (we were a big group and tried a lot of different rolls), each was superb. Try the Temptation Roll (it has peaches on top). We had sweet & sour chicken, too, which was also very tasty. This is my favorite Asian/sushi restaurant in the area. The food quality is consistently excellent, ambiance relaxing, wait staff attentive and friendly. I love the spicy tuna and temptation rolls the best, but have never had anything I didn't enjoy. The prices are higher than local competitors, but it's worth every penny for what you are getting. read more

Great service. Unique menu. They offer something for everyone. This is definitely fusion but it is delicious and delightful. Do not be afraid of Akina because it is Fusion. The Sushi is super duper fresh. They have wonderful stuff like grilled jaw of yellow tail. YUM! They carry Uni but not all of the time. They offer a good variety of stuff and yes there is even plain old fashioned chinese fried rice for your picky kiddo who did not want to go to Akina in the first place. Horrible!! Went in on a Friday evening during prime dining time and the place was dead. I soon found out why. Everything was overpriced. I ordered the Korean Shrimp & Chicken Soup Bowl (at $10). Unfortunately I've had a variety of cheap instant noodle-bowl soups that were better than this. Despite the menu saying rice noodles it only contained (a ton of) regular spaghetti and not much else. The hot peppers were burnt and tasted like crap (the waitress explained "just pick them out - that's what most people do"), and after also complaining that I didn't see any shrimp in it I was told "the chef only put in 4 shrimps - if you don't find them let me know" (there was ONLY four quarter-sized shrimps in the whole dish). The only vegetables in the soup was a few green onions. It was one of the cheapest dishes and at $10 for this crap I've gotten more sustenance and flavor from instant noodle bowls costing $1. The wife ordered a beef noodle dish that wasn't any better (it had spaghetti noodles as well). We felt ripped off but after complaining to the waitress it was obvious no one there cared. Had the spice tuna hand roll and salmon with avocado roll, both were delicious. Best of all was the Chicken and Shrimp Pad Thai. Now that was absolutely amazing! We're regulars. Best local place to go to for the sushi. Itis excellent. The pad thai was disappointing: soggy noodles and doused with onions and peppers and two shrimp. C'mon-couldn't add a few more? I've been to plenty of Thai restaurants, onions and pepps were a first for this dish. I should have sent it back but I'm too nice. Recently my family was in the mood for some Asian food. Being new to the area we didn't know where to start to look for what we wanted (a quality sit down clean Asian restaurant). Since moving out here from the Seattle area it's been hard to find a restaurant with all of the qualities I hope to find until now. Akina is a wonderful small local place that is cozy but not over the top. This time we didn't have sushi but we had other Asian inspired dishes that were devine. Chicken teriyaki, honey garlic chicken, shrimp yakisoba and pad Tai with chicken and shrimp were all prepared beautifully. The most tender chicken and my shrimp were huge and cooked perfectly. Phad Tai was a bit sweet but I still could hardly keep myself from licking the plate clean. There is definitely going to be a next time and I cant wait to try something else on the menu. Maybe even sushi but after a bad experience at Morimoto in Disney Springs I might have to build back up to it. But yes if you want quality food for much less skip Morimoto and go to Akina. The only thing that will boost Akina at this time would be cocktails and wine and that why the four star rating. Need Saki. See you soon Akina. read more

Very interesting Asian fusion place. We're new to the area and dying to find a great sushi place. Unfortunately, Akina did not meet that need. We had two of their specialty rolls and based on our past experience and taste buds, I would only rate them OK. They do have lots of specialty rolls but most were tempura and teriyaki based which was a bit strange - again for us. The lettuce wrap appetizer was very dry. Steamed gyoza excellent. The roti was like a small pancake cut in quarters - not the big sheet folded up that we're used to. The dipping sauce was a bit on the bland side. The service was a little slow to start but once the waiter got rolling he was very attentive - we are very needy when it comes to hot tea and water and never had to wait long for fill up's. The atmosphere is fresh and modern - would be hard pressed to view the interior as Asian - which is fine with us. The menu did have an interesting mix of Asian dishes so we'll try that out next time.
