This place is great. I had an amazing house salad with ginger dressing, a miso soup. Tuna yuzu (delicious, it had fresh sliced avocado that was perfectly presented with fresh cubed Tuna in a light lime juice with aloe Vera cubes on the side) I also had the vegetable gyoza, pan seared. Really really good lunch. Great service. Small restaurant right on Main Street. I'll be back next time I'm in town for another great lunch. I got so caught up talking to the girls i was eating with that I walked out and forgot to leave a tip, how embarrassing!!!! The girl came outside and asked if everything was ok with my meal! I was Soooo embarrassed. I sincerely apologized to the sweet waitress, I've never done that in my life and felt terrible. Thank you Akira for being so fresh and yummy. Nice lunch spot in a comfortable, elegant but casual setting. The Bento box is a good lunch choice and can be made and served in short order time. Service is mediocre at best, and cooked food is average to good. Sushi and Sashimi is fresh and prepared & presented well. The Hibachi is more entertainment than food substance, taste or quality; I don't recommend the Hibachi part of the restaurant since it's loud and the unoriginal hibachi prepared meals won't really "wow" you. read more

Been coming here for years and never had a problem until this time. Went to hibachi table in a room filled with loud unmanaged kids. Host seated us in the middle of them and refused to let us move to another table which promised to be moderately more civilized. So we left. BTW, on this and a subsequent visit the place looked tired and in desperate need of a refresh. This used to be a go to place when it opened. I hope the owner can bring it back. read more

Some of the staff are RUDE! My daughter accidentally spilled her drink, I asked for another one but the waiter stated , " She spilled it, it's not our fault, we are not replacing it." Simply disgusting attitude. I'll never walk foot in there again! read more

I love that they have so many rolls with lobster and Alaskan king crab. This place is a fantastic hidden gem. Fresh sushi. Tables outside where you can watch the cars and dogs go by. Listen to the server when he tells you about the rolls. My husband and I got 3 special rolls (2 lobster and crab something and 1 pink lady) as well as a shrimp tempura. 1 Star is being generous. I'll start out by saying I go out to restaurants 364 days a year (never Christmas) so I think I know about how proper or even decent service is suppose to be. The inside is pretty and the pond is a nice touch but all that could not help that me and my friends waitress was well, rude and seemed annoyed with me when I asked about Mochi at the end of our meal, I just wanted to know the prices and she seemed frustrated with me so I said NEVER MIND i'll take the bill like loll good luck making a living off tips when you're rude as hell. I had gotten the Dragon roll which was just alright, but for $11 i've gotten much better sushi for half the price at other places around the world so, I probably will not be back. read more

Delicious, especially for take-out sushi! We ordered a ton (and I mean a TON) of sushi from Akira II recently and I loved the food. We initially ordered separate rolls, but ended up all sharing. The items of note that we ordered (as far as I remember) were: -Sushi Pizza (Scallion pancake w. lobster salad, avocado top w. tuna & salmon w. spicy mayo). This was my first time eating sushi pizza - it was an interesting flavor and overall I liked it, but I have to say that sushi is strange with bread! -Rainbow Roll (Crab stick, cucumber inside topped w. tuna, salmon, yellowtail, fluke & avocado) -Treasure Island Roll (California roll topped w. spicy lobster, mango & mango sauce) -King Kong Roll (Spicy tuna, shrimp tempura, eel, cucumber, fresh avocado inside topped with whole soft shell crab) -King of Roll (Lobster tail tempura, Chilean sea bass, fresh avocado, cucumber, tobiko, wrapped with soy paper, served with miso sauce and eel sauce) -Rock Roll (Shrimp tempura, cucumber, inside topped with pepper tuna & spicy king crab) -Super California Roll (Spicy lump crab with avocado and cucumber inside, topped with spicy crunchy salmon. Serve with yummy sauce) So much sushi! The platter was quite large. My fiance and I ended up finishing the last little bit. Easily the best sushi around...extremely generous portions of sashimi and the freshest fish. My husband and I typically go there, gorge ourselves on sashimi and pay about $60 after tip. The service is always great. The only thing that makes me nuts is the back hibachi - I know it's an exciting event for some people., but sometimes it gets so loud with children screaming it can be a little overwhelming. read more

i didnt like it here much. The food was just ok. i had the seafood soup and it sucked. looked like they scooped a handful of frozen seafood mix and threw it in. The seafood in it was very rubbery and small. The sushi rolls were ok, but ive had better. i probably wont come back. read more

Great food and good service. I do not like that they charge for refills on ice tea and soda. This is why I go to Yokohama over this place.

The staff who used to work at Akira in Mt. Laurel are now here, so I think its safe to assume that the good sushi came with them. I will hold my piece on that until I have tried it, however. I went here for Hibachi on New Year's Eve, which was great. read more

I have been going here since the day it opened and for some reason have never reviewed it. EVERYTHING IS AMAZING! I have tried just about everything and have never been let down. We ordered the sushi boat when a group of us went on a Friday and it came with a mermaid ice sculpture! The avocado salad is better than any I have ever had and I have been to at least 60 different sushi restaurants. The service is also awesome! I was dead wrong about something I ordered (and didn't realize it till the end of the meal) and they completely agreed with me and brought me whatever I wanted even though they knew I made the mistake - I have never had better service anywhere! BYOB is also a great plus - especially with all the various wine and spirit locations in the area. read more

The specialty apps are worth coming for. We had the Hoisin duck burrito and the stuffed jalapenos - both were unique and delicious. The sushi here is solid but not great. We had the calamari sushi roll which was not one of the better ones I've had here but still good. My husband had the avocado and the sweet potato roll and he also stated these were both good but not great. The evening we went - they had one server who appeared to be taking care of most of the restaurant - she forgot our soup but who could blame her - this place needs more staff. read more

Akira is my favorite place to get sushi. The three or four times my boyfriend and I have eaten in the restaurant there hasn't been a wait. The staff is very friendly and provide good service. My favorite things to get are the sweet potato roll (best in the area) and the vegetable tempura roll. Definitely try this place!!! read more

I am honestly in love with this restaurant. It has been my go to Japanese/hibachi place for the past few years. I usually choose simple and go for their chicken teriyaki, which typically comes with a side of rice, as well as a soup (clear or miso, depends on the day I believe) and a salad with a sweet dressing. Everything is always delicious, and I never leave unsatisfied. It can be a bit on the pricier side at times, but well worth the quality of food that you're getting. The restaurant has a classy interior with soft lighting, and is great for a date or a group of people. Their hibachi tables are wonderful, and the chefs are engaging. And, though I usually only go for safe sushi choices (after some disappointing experiences), their sashimi is delicious-soft, flavorful, and not overly fishy, and the texture is smooth. I will continue to frequent it in the future. I highly recommend it. read more

Just went here for lunch with my brother and sister-in-law and had a great experience. Before I give my review, let me explain where I'm coming from. I've been living in NYC for 10+ yrs where I wine and dine at the top restaurants for a living. I came to Moorestown for a friend's wedding and happened to find Akira on Yelp. Now I'm not claiming the food was as good as a Michelin Star restaurant or Top Sushi spots like Sasabune, Sushi Yasuda or SOTO, BUT the food+service was collectively an experience I won't forget any time soon. It began with us showing up 30 min before they were scheduled to open and they seated us all the same. Then the waiter proceeded to give us complimentary edamame, salads and "things" I can't name without getting someone in trouble. Maybe it was clear we were first-timers so they wanted to make a good first impression, but either way it worked! The kicker - the food was pretty freaking good too! I got the Yummy roll, which was a combination roll with eel tempura, king crab, avocado and 3 sauces used sparingly, and then 3 sushi pieces (yellowtail, white tuna and scallop) which were all very fresh and tasty. My brother got one of the Chilean Sea Bass dishes and was licking the plate. My sister-in-law started with the sushi dumpling, which was odd to handle, but delicious to eat and then a bunch of sashimi which were all very good. If I had one suggestion for them it would be to deliver the a la carte sushi with specific sauces drizzled over them or with complements such as relish or scallions. This suggestion really is for the 99% of sushi restaurants that don't do this still. My only regret is that I didn't get the waiter's name to give him the proper credit he deserves. Evan read more

My son and I stop by here when we walk on Mainstreet. We share an Akira roll with extra wasabi and 2 glasses of water with lemon. We go mid afternoon and are always the only people there. Quick courteous service and the roll is really special, but at $16 it's a treat for once in a while. The shrimp tempora in the roll is enormous and tender, but the last time we went about a month ago the shrimp was an average jumbo, disappointing. We haven't been back since. That doesn't mean I won't ever go back, it's just that at that price point, I'm weary to take my chances and complaining to people who handle my food is not my style. When school starts again we'll give it another go because of all the fine memories and talks my son and I have had when we share that Akira roll. read more

I recently moved to the area and have been missing my hibachi spot in my old city. I saw this place while I dropped my daughter off at school and decided to stop in after school one day. It was about 3:30 and we were the only ones there which was fine. I ordered the chicken and shrimp hibachi with a side of noodles and my daughter had chicken hibachi. The chef was OK, maybe not as animated because it was just 2 of us, but my daughter still loved it. I was surprised by the salad and soup. The salad had a really unique dressing unlike other hibachi places I've visited and the soup had a nice flavor, too. The portions were a great size l, the shrimp was huge and I was pleased about that. The host/waitress was also nice. The hibachi area is small and I'm guessing it gets packed at night and on weekends, so I'd probably make a reservation. Prices are a tad bit higher than other hibachi restaurants by a few dollars, so thankfully the food was delicious. I'll definitely be back. read more

Very tasty and inventive apps and rolls -- try the "shooting stars" dumplings, each one has a whole shrimp inside, and is absolutely delectable. Presentation is gorgeous. Restaurant is beautiful inside, but suffers from the same issue that most NJ restaurants suffer from these days: all hard surfaces, no sound deadening, and too many kids, so it can be very loud... and they also have a fountain, which further serves to make it hard to hear in there.
