Given the close to perfect rating, expectations were rather high. The restaurant looked great and seating service was quick and passable on a Tuesday night. Unfortunately my complete meal was not as complementary. My plates certainly looked great but the rice in both my entrees was not properly prepared and seasoned. The seaweed used for my roll was not crisp meaning it was either not toasted or stored properly before service to account for the humidity. The bed of rice in my Chirashi was lightly seasoned with furikake seaweed but that hardly made a difference. It was still under seasoned. The sliced fish in my chirashi was fresh, but there wasn't any difference in taste from piece to piece. No amount of soy sauce or wasabi was going to enhance my chirashi. Excellent fish, wide selection of nigiri, rough around the edges for service. I hadn't been back to Fuji in many years as it is a bit of a drive to get there. As with many restaurants, they seem to be prioritizing take out over customers with reservations. We had to wade through a scrum of delivery orders and pickup, after which we could finally advance to the hostess. After a short wait, the two of us were seated. Service was polite, if a little slow. While we were promptly given menus, we had to flag down the waitress to give our orders. We ordered a number of appetizers to share which were very good and served within a reasonable time. Unfortunately, we did not have any plates and it took 5 minutes to again flag down a waitress to get some. We were then presented with 2 plates that looked like they came from a NJ diner, heavy, cheap, generic ceramic. Our nigiri arrived and saved the day. The restaurant has a wider selection than many places in the area including "reasonably priced" o-toro. The fish was fresh, firm and very good. One thing that was lacking was any artistic presentation of the fish. It was nigiri, wasabi, and ginger. Overall, I enjoyed the food, but the overall restaurant experience was lacking. I think outside of Sagami, the sushi here is the best in the area. I only wish they delivered! They have so many different types of rolls and they are all really good! Fuji Japanese Cuisine in NJ is an absolute culinary treasure! I visited my friend who lives in NJ and he recommended this place right away. Although it's located in the back of the Main Street that place had lines of people waiting to get in. Due to last minute call we didn't have reservation either. But the hostess was kind enough to assist us right away. We waited only for 12 minutes up until the time we were seated. The menu offers a perfect balance of traditional Japanese dishes and innovative creations. Their sushi is incredibly fresh and expertly prepared, with each roll being a work of art. Their offering were more traditional in years past, but they now offer more Americanized rolls to accommodate local preferences. The adventurous diner, however, can find more obscure choices, such as the live scallop, sea bream, amberjack, and walu. I cannot dine here and not get the crispy salmon skin hand roll. Ever since Sagami stopped lunch service (thanks a lot Covid...) this is the best spot in SJ for Japanese food for a nice lunchtime treat. It's still a bit pricey but you can't beat the value. Horrible service. We waited in line with people that ordered pick up and had dinner reservations for close to 40 minutes past our reservation. Then, we finally were seated, in very tight proximity to two other tables, and nobody even came over to ask if we wanted water or to open our wine. Lucky for me, a friend had brought me to this place for dinner. And honestly it was so good that I went the next night with my partner. The atmosphere of the restaurant was very appealing, it had dim lights that weren't too dark, soft instrumental music, and lots of japanese artwork and aesthetics. We ordered the renko (lotus) chips which were awesome, they were fried and covered in this seasoning (honestly it tasted just like potato so extra points for that). The karaage chicken wings came in a vinegar sauce, they were not bad, but I would probably skip on next time. Also got to try their takoyaki which was good, but nothing crazy, but still enjoyable because I love takoyaki. The hotpot dish consisted of thinner sliced beef, vegetables, and noodles, however I thought the beef was a little tough, and the broth was sweet which threw me off. Ordered nigiri sushi, an assortment of salmon, yellow tail, amberjack, medium fatty tuna, eel, uni. All super yummy, the quality of the fish was super fresh and the fish to rice ratio was *chef's kiss*. A big must try is the hamachi kama (Yellowtail collar). This was a first time for me and WOW it blew me away. The flavor of the salt broiled fish was just so decadent and flavorful, the cut of fish was perfect. Will definitely be ordering again! I ordered the tuna dumpling for the appetizer. It was ok. The dumpling is bigger compared to other places I had them but the filling inside is not my favorite. I had better. For the rest of the food, I had sushi deluxe I believe. It comes with chef choice sushi pieces and tuna roll. It was good. The fish quality was good. Also ordered toro and sweet shrimp sushi. Very delicious. I also got a specialty roll and salmon rolls. They were good as well. My favorite dishes were the custard steamed egg and the steak entree that the meat was cooked on the hot stone. Very unique and not much restaurant has these two food options on their menu. The food came out at a reasonable time. I didn't wait long and the service was good. We went on a Saturday night, it was relatively quiet and had a very peaceful, fancy ambiance. Definitely a date night place. Everything was delicious and top notch quality. The employees were attentive and friendly. I remember trying the Edamame, Seaweed Salad, Karaage Chicken Wings, Queen Roll, Vicki Esq Roll, Peace Roll and a few other rolls my friends had but can't remember the name. All delicious and would recommended. If there was one minor suggestion I could make, I would say to put the sauce of the Karaage Chicken Wings on the side and not pooled on the bottom of the plate. The waitresses are very responsive and efficient in arriving at your table in a very short amount of time and providing refills of green tea and water when asked. My wife and I always go for lunch and you can't beat the value of their offerings. Usually we each order one of their two bento box selections which come with both soup and salad. The other day I changed it up and ordered the two sushi rolls special which also came with soup and salad. We both thoroughly enjoyed our lunches as usual and both of us brought home some of the sushi rolls. The lunch prices are very fair for both the quality and quantity of food presented to us. We need to try dinner again as I saw that they still have the chicken with plum sauce entrée which was delicious. I love sushi. A lot. I was excited to try this place. We brought an expensive bottle of wine (girls night vibes) and the waitress went missing with it for at least 5 minutes. I've never had someone not open the bottle table side, so I was really uncomfortable with the amount of time it was out of sight. The sushi rolls were pretty good. The rice in the rolls was old and the only reason I know that is because the rice was hard. That being said, the fish was fresh. The miso was delicious! My biggest bone to pick was the service. We got a lot of blank looks from the waitress and she barely responded. It was really bizarre. When we arrived, I told her I had a reservation and she silently took 2 menus and disappeared. We realized after confusion that we were supposed to follow her. It just was a weird experience and felt very out of body for me. We ordered the miso soup which was so tasty and had more than tofu and seaweed that the usual restaurants have. Tucked away in a small plaza in which my son does martial arts, but I consider this the best sushi in Haddonfield, period. Everything is fresh, great ambiance, good service. I've visited about three times since 2014 when my wife and I moved here and never had a bad experience. Today we went out for lunch, they had very reasonable lunch prices, I am partial to yellowtail so had both a yellowtail roll and handroll and it was superb! Sushi newbie here and while I've been to a handful of sushi 'adventures', Fuji is my favorite so far. After a yoga class I ventured over through the somewhat hidden away restaurant. It's in a mall that looks more like an office building. Take advantage of the BYOB since Haddonfield is a dry town. BYOB = bonus! The newbie (that's me) sat at the sushi bar in my gym clothes. I bet I violated many sushi restaurant snobbery rules. Oh well though, my belly wants sushi and so we went simple: the lobster spring roll and the shrimp tempura roll. I played it all safe, but then the sushi chef gave me a blue crab roll. It was heavenly! I have idea what I even ate but it didn't matter because it was so much better compared to the places I had been going to with their silly little buffets. Next I stuffed in my shrimp tempura roll and could easily tell the difference in the quality. It was after the tempura roll I realized my little 5'1 body had enough. Unfortunately, my lobster spring roll was staring at me untouched. Ugh! My eyes said feast!! ...and so I did! My favorite sushi place in the area thus far. Though I suspect there may be one in the next town over that is just as good or better. The spicy tuna roll was very good, but was upstaged by a roll that normally gets little love( at least from me) Her California roll was the best I've ever taste. Each ingredient carols out and the imitation crab txt to me usually lacks in any crab flavor was excellent. But what really stood out was the rice. I'm no expert but this simple grain was cooked so perfectly that it didn't just hold the other items together, it complemented them. This was also true of the items in my sushi lunch combo. The best part of my choice were the 6 pieces of sashimi that each featured a different fish. It's difficult to say but the flounder or better fish were possible favorites. Went for lunch, very disappointed, they are the the original Japanese chef/owner and menus are different. From the menu, we ordered udon in hot pot with shrimps, clams, egg and vegetables in a hot pot. The food was completely different from what was described in the menu. The noodles were served in a bowl with one piece of soggy tempura shrimp, one mussel, one egg and cabbage. Service was poor. We only saw the waitress when ordered food and paid at the end.
