I wanted to eat Japanese food with a bar so this ended up being the perfect place to go last weekend. Our daughter loves rolls so she loved this place. This place is a straight VIBE. My mom brought my brother and I here to eat, and EVERYTHING was so good. The owners/staff are extremely friendly and welcoming, and the food is to die for. Literally everythingggg was so good, and the sushi and sashimi was so fresh. Living in Seattle and having super fresh seafood everywhere, it's hard to compare places on the East Coast, but Yokohama is IT and its LIT. Dinner with one of my old college friends on a Saturday night! This was definitely a better and less costly choice overall vs. similar restaurants in Cherry Hill..where we drove from! We started off with Edamame (well seasoned and tender) and Shrimp & Vegetable Tempura (just the right amount of breading and nice portions to share!) Next time, I'll have to try the Soft Shell Crab appetizer - deep fried with ponzu sauce! The waiter was fine - not overly friendly, but helpful enough. Next up was the free regular sushi roll (6 pieces) that I got just for checking in on Yelp when we were inside! A very nice touch and unique since I've never heard of freebies for checking in before..lol. Cooked shrimp sushi roll which was fresh and tasty! Then it was time for entrees and drinks! I ordered the Godzilla roll and the Sakura Roll (recommended by the waiter - Shrimp tempura, avocado with spicy crab meat, seaweed salad with tobiko on top - really delicious!). My friend went a different direction and ordered the Chicken Tempura which looked good and a very nice sized portion! He had to take some of that and the rice home! Lol For drinks we both had the Lychee Sake-tini martini (I had 4 of them..yeah, they were THAT good!) Highly recommended. It's made with Asian Lychee, Haku Japanese Vodka and Sake. It's somewhat dim in terms of lighting inside, so I guess that's for the ambiance. What's interesting here is that you are more or less expected to scan a QR code on the table to view the menu. A bit unusual, so I requested regular menus and they gave us 2 paper menus (the thin take out menu variety..lol). The entire left side where the used to do the fancy Hibachi was closed off and has been for some time according to other Yelpers...but you can order Hibachi, it's just prepared in the kitchen. Not much has changed in the last 2 years. It was packed on a Monday and we arrived without a reservation. We were told there would be a 20 minute wait which was not a problem. We were assigned a table in the dining room, and shortly thereafter our sushi and sashimi orders and appetizer orders were taken. The sushi was average. On request, our waitress obtained some ponzu from the back. Otherwise she was not to be seen. Two minutes before we ate the last piece of sushi, she checked back if everything was OK. The gentleman who was filling water was very attentive and checked every 10 minutes to make sure that all tables had water. Had dinner reservations with my friends for a birthday on a Wednesday night. We arrived a few minutes before our reservation and were seated immediately. Yokohama has a full service bar with plenty of specialty cocktails, however I didn't really look over the drink menu or the beer list as I wasn't drinking that night. The lighting was nice and it wasn't overly big inside the dining area where we sat. They did not offer hibachi dining the night we went which was fine since not everyone in our party was in the mood for hibachi. My girlfriend got vegetable gyoza and beef negimaki. My friend and I got hibachi dinners (he got steak and I got chicken) which came with soup, salad, fried rice, and vegetables. My other friend ordered a few sushi rolls. Our server was nice and accommodating as she gladly allowed us to order a regular shrimp tempura roll without crab stick and caviar as offered on the menu. Everyone really enjoyed their food and at no point in time did we feel rushed. The portion sizes of the hibachi dinners was more than enough food for me (and I am always hungry). Probably the best sushi I have had in the area. Vast amount of selection and it was all good. They had some shishito peppers on special that were very good, and even in some sushi, which was fun. The service was pretty quick and was good at checking in. The ambiance is good, but there was some kinda weird stuff where some of the tables were next to covered hibachi cooktops not in service. Food was delicious! Outside it's just a restaurant in a strip mall. Inside, you get a nice buzz from the Japanese setting, seating and service. I shared a Phoenix roll with my sister at a table near the window, and I followed that up with the hibachi shrimp and chicken combo. It came with the most flavorful miso soup I have ever had. I was a regular from September-December 2024, December being my last time going but anyway the ambience was great and nice and Food is great tho supposedly I was "banned" all because whoever made the lychee martini clearly didn't do it right enphases on "clearly" because the drink came out clear and was strong.. it looks like it should've been maybe a shot in a shot glass that's how clear it was when it's suppose to look much cloudier and light tasting.. I only ever had this happen TWICE, 2 different times within a year and when they took it back, I had this waitress say to me you can't do this anymore and she walked away after I told her why I was sending it back. It was like it went in one ear out the other, and she was giving me excuses about why I can't take it back and everything, and that it was gonna be honored that last time and I even said to her that I was willing to just get a water, but she insisted to bring out another drink, not the same one but a different one I think it was a Mojito or something, but then after she dropped it off, I could tell that she was pissed off and then she walked back to the other staff members and I kept seeing the staff members talking amongst themselves directly across from me pointing fingers at me and only God knows what was said, but after a short time I was then asked to not come back because of this.. and I enjoyed the food but the staff are incredibly rude and get so offended when something gets sent back.. definitely don't come here if you send an items back I understand that it's money for the company but please I highly recommend this establishment to train the staff to properly make drinks, I have a personal bartender friend who can make me that same drink and it would be done right the first time Btw this happened a little over 4 months ago.. and im still kinda upset because I enjoyed the food as I stated.. just disappointed in the staff, anyway go to Tokyo bleu in cinnaminson they always take care of me if I don't like something! Overall, everything was good and the only lacking part would be the dessert because there wasn't enough ice cream but so many fried bananas. I did wish in the Tempura Udon that there were more udon noodles though. I would like to go back and try more dishes/hibachi. Sorry, but I had to post. Hubs took parents to run errands nearby and had dinner. Had ordered some takeout for me since I was stuck at home still working. Wasn't feeling too well and decided to eat the items the following day. Was excited in eating as I didn't have the appetite from the night before. Normally, one would say eating leftover or even packaged sushi a day later is never as good as freshly served. I agree... but it still is good, not great. But, good! I'm really disappointed in the items that I received as I honestly can't find any logic or reasoning as to why the sushi has gone or is going bad. I could NOT eat the yellow sashimi and their cut is definitely not the best. I took a bite at it and instantly there was a "fishy" pungent taste. I'm unsure if this was an isolated incident or if this is the norm. Either way, I'm pretty appalled at the moment. I ordered the lunch special which was 2 rolls with a soup or salad. I had the salad with the orange ginger dressing, which was good. For the Boston roll, they had lettuce in it and all of the lettuce was browning/red. I picked out all of the lettuce and didn't eat it since it was questionable. That being said, a heads up that no chef performance is available at the time reservations are being made would have been nice. It was a 50th birthday celebration and a slight disappointment. The soup and salad were excellent, the dinners were good and hot off the grill in the kitchen. Servers were OK but not attentive, had to be flagged. No dessert offered and the wine was not evenly poured. They have a delicious rose prosecco but the party next to us had fuller glasses. I wish I had pointed it out to the server but I didn't. Many of you probably wondering how did I end up going to Yokohama of Maple Shade instead of staying in Philly? Well, my usual spot is usually Kyoto's, and after driving 20 minutes and found out they are take-outs only. So I yelped again, and try the surrounding restaurants and no luck. Our waiter Hong came over and took our drinks and appetizers. I wanted some kind of sweet alcohol, so Hong suggested Sweetheart Martini. I have to alter a bit bc i want the drink on the sweeter side. And it tastes so good that I decided to try Pear-Tini, not my favorite. We started with Miso soup, BBQ Squid, Fried Tempura Shrimp and Veggies, and Fried Shrimp Shumai. The Shrimp Shumai were so good that we got a second order. Hubby got a taste for hibachi so he order the Seafood Combination. He says this lobster, shrimp, and scallops combo is hard to get in Philly, he will definitely come back for more. As for me, I want sushi. I order Tuna Dumplings, Kobe Beef Sushi, Live Scallop Sushi, Uni Sushi, King Crab sushi, Komo Oyster, and King Crab roll. Everything were really good, two stands out the most. I had Hokkaido's uni from another restaurant and didn't like the texture and the taste. But Yokohama's Uni are ohhh-so-good, I'm drooling while thinking of it lol. It got a more creamy texture and tastes, ok I need to stop now..... If you don't like eating raw sushi, may I suggest Kobe Beef sushi, trust me, you will thank me later! I was really there for the Double Toro roll, but their toro were sold-out today, what a bummer, but it is always a next time! We finished our meal with Vanilla ice cream, Green Tea ice cream, Coconut ice cream, and Mango Mochi ice cream. Everything were so good, we will be back! P.S. Visited on a Saturday night during the pandemic Order was fairly simple and they answered the phone promptly. While I understand it's busy time during Saturday dinner, I was told food will be ready in 40 mins... after getting there a little later ( 50 mins after my order)... I still waited about another 20-30 min outside in the cold. They didn't seem to have a good system on how to handle people picking up their order- ie u see a line waiting outside for pickup and you have to ask them how to actually pick up the food since no employee are by the pick up area... FYI- u suppose to just wait till an employee see you and come out to ask if u are picking up and what phone number u used to call.. heading into the pick up waiting area is useless cuz no one is there In terms of the food... we ordered chirashi, tonkatsu and gyoza. While the tonkatsu itself is pretty good and traveled surprisingly well... They forgot our rice... The chirashi was decent but let's just say... not the best I ever had... sashimi size is pretty small and not the freshiest Gyoza was pretty standard All in all .. for the price and the wait...
