This might be the best sushi in KC. Wow. So fresh and so delicious. Service was excellent - we went for lunch and had a great experience. Can't wait to go back!

It was my birthday and I love Omakase experiences!!! We booked the Chef's Table and enjoyed the experience so so much! ! The locale was very pleasing to the eye and service was top tier exceptional. From the sushi chef's knowledge and explanations of each plating to the careful execution, my fiancé and I savored every single bite. We will go back soon.

I brought a girlfriend for dinner on a Friday night, and overall we had such a great experience. Akoya is an intimate little space tucked inside the Philips Hotel, and it feels special the moment you walk in. We were greeted warmly by both the hostess and the chefs and seated right away. We did have a reservation, but her flight was delayed -- I called ahead and the hostess couldn't have been nicer about pushing our reservation back. We started with a couple mocktails and had already decided we were going all in on the Akoya Omakase (chef's choice), so once we settled in, dinner began. The Akoya includes three sashimi, ten nigiri, temaki (hand roll), miso soup, and dessert. The sashimi and the temaki were my favorites, but every bite was delicious and thoughtfully prepared. The portion was perfect for one person -- definitely enough to leave satisfied, but not something I'd recommend sharing. I'll absolutely be back. The only "problem" will be deciding whether to order the omakase again or try something new from the regular menu! Either way, it's a spot I'm already looking forward to returning to.

4.5 stars. Service was pretty good barring a couple slip-ups and the nigiri was saucier/more topped than I expected, but for the most part I could still taste and appreciate the fish. $45 for the Mizu lunch set which came with miso soup, temaki (hand roll), and 8 pieces of nigiri. Nice atmosphere. They have an eel rice bowl (unagi don, $18) for lunch which was nice to see on the menu. Prices are fairly reasonable, especially during lunch. The eel itself was fine, but kind of one note. I was excited to see a small pitcher on the table because I thought it was broth for hitsumabushi, but no, it was just very delicious soy sauce. The sesame spinach salad it came with was fantastic; the nutty sesame flavor came through well. The miso soup tasted light and fairly standard with a bit of tofu and green onion. The amount of wasabi holding the nigiri together overpowered some of the fish, but I enjoyed everything. 1. Tai - shio, seaweed 2. Suzuki - my personal favorite and the fish that actually made me just stop for a moment wishing I could have more 3. Akami - soy, wasabi 4. Harame with fatty dorsal fin bit 5. Hamachi - soy sauce, lime zest was a nice touch and made it stand out 6. Masu - had a texture like good cut- up salmon, nice and smooth, almost mushy but not 7. Gindara - yuzu miso, soft but with a bounce to it 8. Chutoro - cold smoked cherrywood, perfectly fine but I generally prefer other fish to tuna. Hated to end on this so I ordered sashimi, but I would rather go for the nigiri next time.

Tried Akoya Omakase recently and overall had a good experience. The service was attentive and friendly throughout the meal, and the pacing was well done. The sushi was solid -- fresh and nicely presented. Coming from Seattle where we're spoiled with great sushi options, I'd say it was good, though not mind-blowing. Still, definitely worth trying if you're in the area and craving omakase.

What an amazing experience from start to finish! You can't find fresher fish anywhere in the KC Metro area! Sitting at the sushi bar and being served by the owner/head chef Peter was such a fun and enjoyable time. Every piece of fish handled with such care, the precision of such delicate knife work so impressive. Oh, and the flavors with fresh fish that "melts in your mouth". All the chefs were personally involved with the guests and only added to the experience. If you're a foodie and want an authentic experience come ASAP. If your sushi experience must include "cream cheese" or California rolls then be prepared this is not that kind of sushi experience. Akoya is doing things other places refuse to do, that will be the foundation of their success! Can't wait to return.

This is a great addition to Downtown KC. We went 2 times during their soft opening phase and both were perfect. Ordered the Umi Omakase both times and it was a good amount of food for me. Would order a little more if I went with my husband again. The fish is fresh, cut the way sushi should be cut, seasoned just enough to highlight the fishes' natural flavor, and the right temperature. Peter and his team know what they are doing. The other part I really respected is that my meals were not the same both nights. There were some bites that were the same but it was based on the fish they could get that day. They serve their best each night. The price points are also good. There are different levels of omakase and there is also a full menu. Lots of options for any type of diner. I like omakase experience because everything is a little surprise.

I stumbled upon this place walking down the street. Seeing the word Omakase immediately grabbed my attention. I am a huge fan of this type of experience, letting the chef take you on a journey of his own creation. Chef Peter did not disappoint in this regard. From the moment I walked in, every little detail said that this was going to be a unique, well thought I would experience. I was greeted by a name card with my name and Richard on it with my reservation time. I sat at the sushi bar, which, in my opinion, is the only way to experience Omakase. The service was excellent. Everyone put their heart and soul into making the experience memorable. I enjoyed hearing chef peters stories of becoming a sushi chef, exchanging travel stories and more. I wish I had taken better notes on which items I was served and more pictures of them, but I was too busy being present in the moment, enjoying each piece as it was lovingly delivered to my plate, down to seemingly minor, but extremely important details, like positioning, the fish in the right angle to serve it from the best angle. Omakase is not an experience to be rushed. I enjoyed my meal at a relaxed pace and spent almost 2 hours in the restaurant. It was a uniquely special experience to be able to be served by the owner of the restaurant over the period of time that I was there. The cut of fish and the sushi rice and all of the accompanying dishes were top-notch. The miso soup at the end of the meal was likely some of the best measle soup I've ever had in my entire life. Make a point to visit this restaurant, don't be in a rush. Savor the experience. It will be well worth your time.

Beautiful Restaurant, wonderful staff who make you really feel like a friend. I went on a Monday during lunch. It was actually really nice because there wasn't a lot of traffic and I snagged a parking spot that was just a few steps from the door! I went with the 10 piece sashimi Lunch, Tai Truffle, and Uni The Tai Truffle dish was my favorite!!! The flavor combo is brilliant. I should have taken better note on the fish I didn't have but I didn't, and it was all good! I got the Peach and butterfly pea flower drink and it was delish and refreshing! I can't wait to go back and try more and take better notes

New restaurant alert!! Awesome new omakase spot in the Hotel Phillips. They have both a sushi bar as well as tables to sit at, but of course you should sit at the sushi bar! They offer 3 options for omakase, we did the mid-tier which was $85 and more than enough food-2 piece sashimi, 8 nigiri, 1 temaki (hand roll), miso soup and dessert per person. All the fish is very fresh and exceptional. Staff is super friendly, they are just in their soft launch so have patience as service was a little slow. 5/5 stars! Great addition to the KC food scene!

I will NEVER opt for sushi when I'm somewhere that isn't near a major body of water, but I was in Kansas City on a work trip recently and Akoya popped up on Yelp. I checked reviews against Instagram and did a little bit of "research" on the chef and his affiliates before I committed to a reservation. Seemed like they were the real deal. And they absolutely were! I did the omakase and had the pleasure of being served by Chef Peter. Everything was fresh, delicious, and bursting with flavor! He used a lot of my favorite notes and ingredients like ponzu and yuzu, which I was super thrilled about. We also had a lovely conversation about how he and his family got their start in Kansas City and how he got into the business. The restaurant is inside the historic Hotel Phillips. No signage for that reason and super low-key, but definitely worth the visit if you ever find yourself in (downtown) KC.

What a wonderful selection for omakase! Everything was made so well and tasted so fresh. I think the favorite and most interesting thing on the menu was actually the dessert - it was a black sesame pudding-esque like dessert which was super smooth and creamy. Definitely not something I've had before and very nice. The actual restaurant is interesting, located inside hotel Philips, and you have to walk through the hotel to get to it. There's not a ton of seating, so reservations are needed. There is chef side seating though which is neat. My one minor comment is the price - though everything tasted great, we did think it was kinda expensive for what we had (paid over $200) for 2 people. For fine sushi options in KC, something like Kata Nori might be more price conscious.

Every menu item feels very intentional and well executed. The offerings on the cocktail menu are fabulous. Both the ube and lychee cocktails are delicious. My partner and his mom both had a sake flight, each offering was delicious and different in offering. If you like sake you will definitely find one you like with this flight! They both ended up liking a yuzu sake and split a bottle, the finish was sweet, crisp and perfect for the Kansas City heat. I started with an espresso martini, the coffee flavor was strong and sweet and I was a fan! During our meal I opted for a martini corner dirty vodka martini and as a dirty martini enthusiast I was very pleased and will continue to recommend! I finished off with a matcha martini that was sweet, creamy and smooth and paired perfectly with our tempura banana! Speaking of food, the star of the show, we genuinely had only good bites here as usual. We sat at the bar on the corner, it was a nice seat that captured the energy of the restaurant, busy but somehow tranquil. Our bartender was great as well as all the staff behind the bar and host stand! I especially appreciate the patience of our bartender, we came and ordered many rounds of small plates, (you should do the same!) and he was nothing but enthusiastic and helpful. To start we had some furikake fries and shishito peppers. There are a lot of exciting and multilayed dishes on the menu, I think these two humble sides though really pack a punch and show that everything on the menu brings it's A game. From there the food ordering escalated as everyone in my group was over the top excited. The stand outs for me were, the dry aged salmon nigiri, the toro hand roll, the crab apple roll and my group was especially blown away by the scallops and are still talking about them a week later! Noka is in my opinion, really bringing a new level of dining to Kansas City. I'm not over stating it to say it is one of a kind in this city and everyone should try to get in.

Every detail feels intentional, from the plating and presentation to the atmosphere itself. As someone who appreciates design, Noka absolutely delivers. Food-wise, there were two undeniable stars of the night: * Wagyu Nigiri (100/10) - One of the best bites I've ever had. Rich, buttery, perfectly balanced, and worth ordering every single time. * Crab Campanelli (11/10) - Absolutely incredible. Comfort food elevated to fine dining quality. If I came back tomorrow, I'd order this again without hesitation. Other highlights: * Filet (10/10) - Beautifully cooked, incredibly flavorful, and paired with perfectly prepared bok choy. Everything on the plate felt intentional. * Night Market Wings (8.5/10) - The quality was excellent. The sweet heat profile just wasn't exactly my personal preference, but that's purely subjective. If you enjoy spicy food with a lingering, slightly numbing heat, you'll probably love these. * Shrimp Tempura Roll (8/10) - Very good and executed well. * Tuna Roll (7/10) - Good, but it was the least memorable item compared to some of the standout dishes we ordered. Noka excels at creating a complete dining experience. Beautiful atmosphere, thoughtful presentation, excellent service, and several dishes that genuinely surprised us. For a special occasion, date night, or anyone looking for an elevated dining experience in Kansas City, it's absolutely worth a visit.

After that, we started ordering and by the end of our meal, we both had two delicious drinks and a very wide array of hand rolls and other dishes. There were definitely some stand outs, although there wasn't a single bite I didn't enjoy. First standout would be the cucumber dish, which is an amazing first bite to get your meal started. It was covered in a delicious, garlicky, slightly spicy chili sauce with sweet peppers and it was a great choice. A standout among the hand rolls for me was surprisingly the hamachi due to it being one of the cheaper hand rolls. It was a very bright and citrusy-salty fusion and I wouldn't change a thing about it. A final standout is going to have to be the sake crudo. The sake crudo is such a unique dish full of flavors I've never had that combines a sweetness with a nice chili crunch and soft buttery big pieces of salmon. I could write great things about every single thing I ate but I'd end up with a novel. To sum it up there isn't a single bad thing to say about Kata Nori. The service was amazing, the layout of the restaurant is unique and intimate, every ingredient tastes so fresh and the flavor combinations are perfect plus their drinks are on par or better than any cocktail bar I've been to. I highly highly recommend this to absolutely any lover of sushi!!

My friends loved the cali roll & please don't get me started on the margaritas!!! They were sooo delicious! The only con was that if you don't like your food, they won't take it off your bill. My Kansas City roll tasted burnt (specifically the salmon)... it was too smoked.. but they said they couldn't do anything about it. So $12 down the drain. No replacements or anything. Their happy hour is every day 4-6, all day Wednesday, and Friday and Saturday 8-10. We ordered a couple rolls and apps. My fave was the Kansas City Roll. Smoked Salmon, with cream cheese, then they cut the roll, fry the pieces, then sliced in half. Perfection! I had had crab Rangoons a few hours earlier, so I didn't order them... but the table next to me did and I was slightly envious.... Most of the food rolls out from the kitchen on a robot trey. It's a very fun way as the robot livens up the room. Our server made the final delivery from Trey to Table. For entrees, we ended up with surf and Turf. The Gyu Don is a bowl of streamed rice topped with marinated slow cooked Beef Ribeye and Mushrooms. The Okimari Chirashi is chefs choice raw fish. We selected sashimi style, so it's on a Bed of sushi rice. My friend had the Lychee Martini which was delicious and potent.
