I ordered the spicy kani salad and the daikon maki. The daikon maki was incredibly refreshing in this summer heat and I absolutely enjoyed all the fresh flavors. The fresh fish paired so well with that radish paper and yuzu sauce, I could have 2 orders of this minimum! The kani salad wasn't spicy at all, so I added on some soy sauce mixed with wasabi and it really added some extra kick and flavor. I found this place 2 years ago as a quick lunch with a friend who is pescatarian . We definitely found a gem because we've been coming here ever since. Sakae is a nice little restaurant located at the corner of a strip mall in Parkville commons. They have a fair amount of tables and bar style seating throughout the venue. My wife and I love to try crab Rangoon wherever we go and these Rangoon were very well made. Sometimes Rangoon can have soft, almost squishy, underbellies. That was not the case with these Rangoon as they were crispy all around and made a great crunch when they were bitten into. The seaweed salad was very good and seasoned nicely with sesame seeds and poppies. We ordered a variety of sushi rolls too get a full taste of what their menu had to offer. It became very clear that our eyes were bigger then our stomachs as we had plenty of leftovers to go home with. read more

I've been going to Sakae Sushi for over 10 years. I usually sit at the Sushi Bar. About half of my past visits, I am solo. Last night the food was great again. The service was not great. Upon entering last night the restaurant was almost full. There weee three open places at the Sushi Bar. I took a seat at the Sushi Bar. I sat there making eye contact with multiple wait staff for 22 minutes. No one came to me for 22 minutes! When someone finally engaged me I was asked, Are you dining in? I said Yes! Ultimately I was asked 3 times by 3 different wait staff if I was dining in. I've NEVER been asked this question at Sakae Sushi or at any Sushi place when seated at the Sushi Bar if I was dining in! After over 30 minutes I got a water. Then a few minutes later here comes a menu. A table of 4 right behind me was seated no fewer than 15 minutes after I sat at the Bar. This table was waited on and was served appetizers and drinks before I got a menu. Granted Friday night is 4 days before a holiday. But weren't they expecting to be slammed? My last interaction with wait staff included an apology for my extended wait. I'll go back, but hoping they improve their acknowledgement of folks seated at the Sushi Bar. What's with asking me if I wanted to dine in? You can do better! You have done better many many times before! read more

Hit this place up based on Yelp reviews and proximity to my home base. Called ahead for a reservation since it was Saturday night. When we arrived at 730 the place was pretty dead, which surprised me. We were told to sit wherever we liked and were promptly greeted. She ordered the assorted sushi plate and I ordered 3 of the night's special rolls (Green Goddess, Princess Diana, and Kamikaze Bombs). Ok so the Kamikaze Bombs were to die for. I always come here for my sushi fix. The owner/head chef always is the first to greet you when you walk in and will come by your table to check and make sure the food was great. It by all means isn't a fancy place, but it's new so it's kept very clean and nice. You get a complimentary miso soup if ordering sushi and it's pretty standard. My favorite appetizer is the baked mussels and the spicy crab salad. The mussels are covered in this spicy Japanese mayo which is amazing! We had the spider roll, spicy crunch, and volcano. All of it ended up being too much to eat, but it's so very well priced that we could've kept ordering more. One minor issue... I had ordered a diet coke but was brought a diet Pepsi and wasn't told they didn't carry coke products, so I was offered a different drink. Parkville still close to KC area - This is one of my favorite sushi places in Kansas City. I have two others but will review those when I go back. You must try the fiery edamame. Trust me you'll never go back to regular salted edamame after you've tried this! It is amazing! The edamame is seasoned with lemon and togarashi. They then wok fire it up and in the end it has a wok fired taste with the togarashi seasoning. There are not many places that make edamame this style and I'm so glad this place does! The sushi is always delicious and I haven't had a roll I disliked. They have sushi specials written on the wall behind the sushi bar that is not on the menu. We tried the princess diane, dynamite, yakuza, and hamachi jalapeno. Each roll had their own different taste which is what I try to go for when eating sushi. I like to order different kinds of fish and toppings to change up the flavor. The fish tastes fresh, rolls are rolled nicely as in they do not break when picking up, and the price is just right. Their most expensive rolls are $12-13 which is a good price when compared to other sushi places. The restaurant is clean and I haven't had to wait to be seated.
