Ive be been here a couple of times because I used to go to their sister location in Highwood. Well, it started off with me booking an eye threading appointment for 6/24 with McKinley at 5:15. Unfortunately, I was running late to the appointment from work bc traffic was horrible so I called them to let them know that. They were courteous and said if I could make it in by 5:25, they would be able to take but other than that, they were booked. I thought I could make it before it became quickly apparent, I couldn't so they asked if I wanted to reschedule. I ended up rescheduling for 6/25 at 4pm. While I was on my way to the appointment on 6/25 at 4pm, it was about 5-10 mins prior to my appt, I saw that the Main Street that Aks Allure is on is completely blocked off because of a classic car show which was taking place. There was a lady near the barrier that blocked off the street, I'm sure to ensure that no one enters. So, I called Aks allure to let them know I was running late bc of the road being blocked off. I asked if I could reschedule and unfortunately, the lady I talked to said they wouldn't be able to take me which I understood. She then continued to let me know that for "future reference", if something like this were to happen again, they would have to charge me $6 for not cancelling my appointment within the 24 hour deadline, she told me to consider this a "warning" and then the call ended. A couple of minutes later, I get a call back from someone from Aks Allure telling me that since I "no showed" my appointment on 6/24 and then wasnt able to make it to the appointment on 6/25 I would be charged $6 bc I didn't cancel the appointment within their 24 hour window. I mean there was a freaking car show that blocked off their main road. The majority of their parking is on the street and if the main road is blocked off, I'm not quite sure where else I could have parked. It frustrated me because had the road not been blocked off, I would have made it to the appointment. I wasn't aware of the car show and when I rescheduled on 6/24, the car show was never even mentioned or I didn't get a "heads up" that the main road would be blocked off because had I known, I would have gotten there a little extra early to give myself time to find parking. I guess businesses in Lake Bluff don't really know about when their events take place in the community until the day of as evidence today. Anyways, I understand Aks Allure has a policy but I thought it was jacked up to be charged for something that was out of my control. I'm giving one star because although the times that I have been there, they've done a good job for the services requested but the way this particular situation was handled was just plain poor. Going forward, I'll stick to their sister location or find somewhere else because of how this situation was handled. Thank you. NEXT. read more

I've been coming to aks allure for years and I'm very happy with the services. It's reasonably priced and comfortable. McKinley is my aesthetician, I see her every 2-3 weeks for my eyelash refills. I can't say enough nice things about her. She's gentle, thorough, clean, and most importantly, she listens to your requests to make sure you're happy with the results. Ive changed my requests several times ie, single vs volume lashes, length of lash, placement on the eye, etc. and every time she manages to perform exceptionally. I had previously been to a few lash salons in highland park, but they didn't come close in quality and hygiene. Pre-covid, McKinley wore gloves, properly sterilized instruments, and used very hygienic protocols. Now as Covid continues to change our world, the salon is doing a great job following guidelines. I just moved to the area and need a new wax place. McKinley did my wax a week ago and I still have brushes and welts from her trying to rip the wax off of my legs and bikini area and slipping because her hands were too "oily". It seemed she was in a rush and was moving too fast. I tried to stop her more than once but I was brushed off with a quick "sorry" as she continued. Lastly, McKinley also did my eyelash extensions which have been slowing shedding since I left the establishment. I was very meticulous in following her after care instructions however I woke up the next morning with more than few eyelashes on my pillow and they have been shedding ever since. Mariam is a wizard, seriously....she is the best microbladding expert on the north shore. She is so patient and will work with you to give you the results YOU want, what you like. After microbladding with her, when I had a question or was OCD about 1 or 2 additional strands, she welcomed me to her store. She is beyond sweet and always makes me feel at ease. I went to Patricia for eyelash extensions. I was very nervous and wanted something very natural. She was very responsive to my concerns about lashes that would look unnatural on my face as my natural lashes are blonde tipped. We agreed on a very conservative approach, using 3 lengths (9,10,11) to get something close to my natural length that would stand out better in black. We had a lot of fun with my anxiety! The results were fabulous! I love my very natural extensions and may even have her put in a few more for a fuller look but will stay with my natural length. Customer service was great, very nice! My lash lift was not. I've gotten a lash lift once before somewhere else and loved it so had high expectations. Getting it done here I honestly didn't notice much difference at all and some of my lashes had kinks. There was no curl. Also getting the lash rod and glue off from my eyelid was much rougher than I expected because at the other place I went to was much gentler. read more

I had the most wonderful experience on Saturday with McKinley. I was a walk-in to get my eyebrows threaded and they turned out AMAZING. Normally at other places when I get my eyebrows done they bleed a ton and I tear like a baby, but here I felt fine! She was super nice and attentive and I during the entire experience I felt like I could trust her (which probably helped with my anxiety).
