Dewey Park is where it's at! It's 100% high quality turf, small/big dog separated...water feature, poopy bags included, and some fun activities on both sides. Plenty of water bowls too. For the two legged parents, there are great benches with big umbrellas...almost always 1/2 of them in shade depending on the time of day. I've only met a few fellow owners, but every one I meet is nice! Bring a book, Bring a Sandwich, and BYOD...or else it's weird if you don't bring a dog. I just have to try not to say the word Park around the house.

So small but mighty, Dewey Park is worth a visit.

There have been so many changes in recent years due to the new addition to Westgate Elementary School next door. The parking lot coming in off Hascall is completely different. The park itself had some construction in recent years. The scary and probably dangerous tunnel has been leveled and replaced as has the sidewalks, stairs, and pathways around it. There's all new playground furniture. The dense tree line separating the park from the mortuary next door is gone. There is still a lot of open land to walk my dogs. I always feel pretty safe here, especially now, though there are always some randos sitting alone in their cars but I suspect that's all parks.

Lots of mature trees and a walking path. Even a pool and a golf course! This is a great space for public events, such as an Earth Day celebration I recently attended. It is by UNO campus and that can impact traffic and parking sometimes. Still, a really nice green space here in the city.

But also the beauty of the park itself will be discussed many times - don't worry. We wanted a short (but still beautiful) outdoor wedding in October, and realized that the City of Omaha actually rents out parks for events. And the gorgeous Elmwood Park Grotto was the first thing I thought of! Just a note, you can't reserve a park location more than a year out (so a year to the day out from our wedding date, we called and snapped it up). We reserved the grotto, and went to look at the space to be sure it could fit our large guest list. It was exactly the right size - we decided to rent some nice chairs to put in a little semicircle design in front of the fountain, and we had the wedding take place at the front of the semicircle at the center of the fountain. The fall foliage was in full bloom and made our special day so perfect. The gorgeous greenery of the park also made the most beautiful backdrop for our formal photos once the chairs had been cleared out! The only negative thing I would note if you decide to rent the grotto, is that they don't put up any signs or anything that it's closed/rented for a private event, so I would recommend doing that yourself and placing signs at each entrance. We almost had someone walk their dog through our wedding because we didn't do this. All in all, It was perfect for our needs. A gorgeous (and very affordable!) outdoor location with a fountain to wed in front of, some pretty steps so you can still "walk down the aisle" - and a huge space to fit our 100+ guests!

I see planes flying around when I walk, but we just went to the airshow over Labor Day Weekend. It's a neat area off the Fort st. entrance. There is seating and a picnic area as well. Make A Wish was there selling food and drink as apart of their fundraiser. I hope to learn more and come back for more shows as the kids were enamored with the sights.

I hadn't ever been to the Arboretum but frequently drive past. I decided to give it a whirl with my…read moremom friend and our kids while we had a warmer day this winter. It is a very large area spanning from Blondo to the inner state with many different trails and paved paths. The reason I'm more of a 4 vs. a 5 is because paths aren't super clearly marked and it will change from paved, to wood chips, to gravel. A bonus if you need a place to hang with your pet is that they allow dogs!

Tons of baseball diamonds although i dont know how often actual events are scheduled in them. Last visit i even admired a few people flying some nitro fueled tethered airplanes. When i was onsite 2 baseball games were going on and the splash pad was busy and still tons of parking. One thing i didn't like is the playground by the splash pad had a 'soft' ground covering but WOW was it reflecting heat like crazy. On a hot sunny day keep an eye on your littles so they dont possibly burned. Also that playground equipment is wheelchair accessible from what i could tell since it had ramps up and walkways were very wide. It can also be tricky getting into the park as the entrances are pretty small steeets. I'd recommend the access off Harrison street.

The clubhouse makes the perfect meeting point for group activities or just to hang out with a cup of hot cocoa on cold winter day. Plenty of free parking and well marked activity areas. Check out Seymour Park If you just want to go for a walk or you're more ambitious for some of the great activity infrastructure available for public use.
