This was a great restaurant for a kids birthday dinner. They had a blast in one of the private rooms and, more importantly, ate a bunch of food. This was a solid spot for an Italian dinner and seemed to have plenty of space for large groups and small groups. After ordering, they brought out bread rolls and salad and offered to refill them for us, though we didn't take our waitress up on that. I ordered the Primo Chicken and it was full of lots of flavors and fresh arugula. My husband got the Gorgonzola chicken. Portions were massive and we could have easily had 2-3 meals out of our dinners. The service was fast and prices were on the higher side but still reasonable. Al Fresco's is located in a mall that is situated next to the busy Route 202 which runs straight through Flemington. There's a large parking area and plenty of indoor seating, so large parties should feel comfortable dining here. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. I decided to go with the Margherita pie and the vodka sauce pie. The Margherita pie is simply AMAZING. The sauce is sweet and delicious. It's clear the plum tomatoes Al Fresco's uses are high quality. The fresh mozzarella tastes great, but beware of cheese slide! The fresh basil adds the perfect finishing touch. The vodka pie features a creamy, buttery vodka sauce that tastes fantastic. Just like the Margherita pie, the base and crust are both thin and crispy. We were invited to a birthday celebration there and didn't know what to expect we were very pleasantly surprised! I prefer not to go out for Italian because I grew up with great cooks and perhaps I'm not bad either. We started with a salad and warm, crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside rolls. The salad was perfect just the right balance of vinegar and oil. All meals were served family style and they were prompt in bringing more if needed. Next came penne ala vodka. It was so yummy! Everyone had second helpings. But to our surprise came a pasta with San Marzano crushed tomatoes and fresh basil. It was to die for! The main course was multi colored peppers and chicken Francese I do not prefer either chicken breast or the lemon sauce. I tried it and was won over. It was tender with just the right zing of the lemon flavor. The ambiance was attractive and comfortable and we had our own room I found the service more than efficient and professional. The best gluten free pizza I've had in Flemington! I tried 2 other places that obviously did not make the crust in house. Alfresco's gf crust was delicious, made in house with rice tapioca flour!!! Highly recommend and hope to try their gf pasta soon as well. read more

I've heard a lot about Al Fresco's in recent months so it was finally time to check it out for myself. It just happened to be a Monday evening which means... 1/2 priced entrees! Score! My friends and I arrived at around 6:15pm and there was a massive wait; yes, I'm talking line-out-the-front-door kinda wait. I went inside to put my name in (take note, they don't take reservations on Mondays) and the host told me it would be about a 35 minute wait... not bad. We came to check on our status shortly after and luckily our table was ready. Our server quickly greeted us and informed us of their Monday night deal. Couple things to take note of for Monday nights - cash only, you must order a beverage, and all entrees are 1/2 off starting at 4pm. I must note that our server was great - she was attentive and super friendly. 5 stars for her! The menu was fairly extensive with a variety of pastas, soups/salads, chicken, and seafood dishes to choose from. After much debate and some reassurance from the server, I settled on the shrimp scampi which comes with bread and a house salad for the table to split. Our food came out in a timely fashion. One bite in to my entree and I immediately regretted my decision. It tasted extremely bland and was seriously lacking flavor. Luckily, I was able to add condiments to make it a bit better. My friends seemed to enjoy their meals; though, one person did note that she too needed to add salt and pepper to her meal. Next time, I won't make the mistake of ordering it again. But what I will say is that portion sizes were massive. Everyone at the table had enough leftovers to bring home. I was floored when we got the bill... literally the cheapest dinner ever. Was it the tastiest dinner I've had? No. But you will get your bang for your buck. I still have high hopes for Al Fresco's as the overall experience was good. I'm sure I will likely come back again to try out some other items from the menu. But for now, I'd say avoid the mediocre shrimp scampi. PRO TIP: Al Fresco's is BYO so don't forget to grab a bottle of wine before you go! read more

I understand places can be busy and when dining in we should not expect the fastest service, but it was terrible to say the least. I've eaten here probably a hundred times. Then one day I ordered a meal and in the garlic bread there was a band aid. Of course I was disgusted but part of me rationalized how it could be possible to lose a bandaid while preparing food. I'm not the type to complain because I'm sure they would deny it so I decided to just stop going. Then time passed and I returned .... Tolerating mediocre pizza and food that was different each time I ordered. Fast forward to last night when I ordered a vedura pie. To my disgust there was a broken clam shell amongst mushrooms and I almost chipped a tooth. Personally I know the food service industry as a whole is disgusting. What chefs actually do in the back is Russian roulette. However one assumes that they won't get food poisoning from a pizza that is baked in a 600 degree oven. However, due to what can only be attributed to sloppiness or carelessness, a broken shell made it into the vegetables. This is unacceptable and whoever reads this should not be surprised if they find a something unexpected in their meal. I don't want a refund. I don't even want to be contacted by the management. Just clean up your act make some changes in the kitchen. Don't think you are above cleanliness standards because you are a very busy pizzaria. read more

This is a great restaurant that my family and I have been coming to for years. Food is always great, menu has a large selection & they have a few nights of specials which are well worth it. The portions are very generous & it's BYOB which makes it even better!! You're guaranteed a good meal at this place. We also threw my sisters baby shower here and they did great catering to a large party. Everyone raved about the food and the party room that they had. My only complaint is that I feel like the penne vodka has lost taste over the years. It tasted better when it was at the Alfonsos location and it was something we'd order every 1/2 price pasta night and my family doesn't even bother ordering it anymore. The bread & salad you get is also delicious and something we all look forward to. Tonight we had to ask for bread and they never even gave us salad which was strange. So starting off positively, the place is byob which is always nice and the bread they gave us was delicious! Like the bread was really good, warm and soft and just great. But after the bread it all went downhill. I don't know our server's name but he was really rude. We had a big table for my grandmas bday lunch there (12 people), so maybe the guy was stressed but still it wasn't ok. Honestly the restaurant was pretty empty I don't think he had many tables besides us. The server didn't respond well when asked questions and often walked away while we were still talking to him. The restaurant also said it was fine for us to bring a birthday cake. So when my grandma went to the bathroom my mom asked the guy to bring out the cake when she got back. He rolled his eyes and started walking away while my mom was still talking to him about candles, etc. Then he brought the cake right away (before my grandma was back). The server looked at my mom and said very rudely "what am I supposed to do with this" like he had never seen a birthday cake before. It was just odd. Also my cousin asked for lemonade, which is on the menu, and the server told him they didn't have any which was fine, he ordered something else. But then my brother noticed when they opened the kitchen door that it looked like there was clearly lemonade in there. When he asked another server what the thing in the kitchen was she said it was lemonade. So why did the other guy say they didn't have any when it was in plain sight? Who knows maybe it went bad, maybe they were saving it, I really don't know. Beyond the service the food was ok. I had eggplant rollatini which was alright. My boyfriend had penne vodka which was pretty bad. It tasted like nothing and was super watery/soupy. Bummer with the catering here! Their menu is very set-so no swapping!! I have lived in the neighborhood for 15 years and really wanted to have my kids graduation party here. But swapping out pasta for a few pizzas was not possible. And when I suggested I needed to find a place that had pizza bc if was my sons favorite -he couldn't get me off the phone fast enough. I came in last weekend with my cousins because they were visiting town and I usually love it here but It's been a while, but I brought them here because it can't disappoint, right? We had moved out of Jersey some 10 + years ago. We lived in Flemington and loved the diversity of the restaurants. We were back for the weekend and I can only tell you it was the best meal we have had in 20 years. Almost good enough to make us move back! HAHAHA.. She brought me a bottle of chilled water with lemon as I requested! Ordered there Chicken Franchise! It comes with a house salad with there own made dressing! It taste very good! I do like they remove the seeds in there cucumbers! The service is great here very speedy and fresh! My food came out fast and hot! Bonnie has checked on me a few times making sure my food was ok! Brought here by dear friends, and we were pleasantly surprised: terrific chicken parm, chicken Marsala, broiled salmon and broiled red snapper. Ample portions, classic Italian fare, and more imaginative than a usual restaurant. BYOB, and helpful, friendly waitress. Worth a visit if you are visiting and in the area, and maybe one of the the best dining experiences in Flemington. We haven't found anything better yet in town.
