Follow your GPS and don't just start winging it at the end because if you miss the turn onto Doble Avenue, you're going back around the block. It's in Harbor City in a warehouse, which makes a lot more sense once you know what the place actually is. La Española has been importing Spanish foods for more than 40 years, and they also make their own Spanish-style charcuterie right here in California. Being tucked into a warehouse near the Port of LA somehow makes the whole thing feel like a miniature local adventure. When you first walk in you have to acclimate for a second because every inch of the place is filled with something. Oils, olives, vinegars, paprika and other seasonings, wine, cheeses, meats, paella pans, and then random specialty things like soaps and room sprays. The neroli ones smelled fantastic, btw. I went in with a list because we were heading out to the desert and had decided we were making paella. We already had a carbon steel paella pan at home basically begging for the job, so this was happening. We left with sweet and smoked paprika, Spanish chorizo, a couple different oils, sherry vinegar, and several cheeses and meats from the refrigerated section. Plus, of course, some things that were definitely not on the list. Also, if you go on Saturday, they make paella in a gigantic pan behind the building and offer several varieties to go or to eat on the patio. We happened to be there on a Saturday and somehow stayed committed to making our own, even though theirs smelled delicious. I did get the skinny though, and they recommend ordering ahead. Side note: not only did they have everything we needed, we were clearly set up for success. See image for proof of concept.

I really like their Hamburg rice! This time I came mainly for the Hamburg and also ordered their bestseller, Roast Beef Don. Wow, it really deserves to be a bestseller! The beef was very tender and somehow refreshing. The Hamburg gives a different feeling tho.... more comforting?!? I also ordered another grilled beef dish, which was very good too. (Forgot to take a photo ) My top two are definitely the Hamburg and Roast Beef Don. Both are delicious! The restaurant is small but comfortable, not too busy, the staff are nice, and there's plenty of parking.

I've avoided reviewing Red Rock for years, which is strange because I've probably eaten enough of…read moretheir menu by now to qualify for some minor form of tenure. I remember this space before Red Rock was Red Rock. I've eaten here, ordered it delivered, worked my way through the roast beef bowls, omurice, curry, hamburger steak, shrimp, yakiniku, beef tongue, potato salad, basically enough of the menu that this isn't based on one unfortunate day. And the frustrating thing is, the food is mostly good. Sometimes very good. Red Rock has always been a slightly peculiar proposition. A mound of rice buried beneath ribbons of nearly rare roast beef with an egg on top isn't exactly an easy pitch to everyone. Neither is omurice. Soft egg over rice, surrounded by curry, perhaps topped with a hamburger steak or a couple of fried shrimp. There's a lot of softness happening. Halfway through, your mouth occasionally starts requesting a different texture. But when it works, it works. The roast beef is tender. The sauces are good. The curry has that comforting Japanese richness to it. The fried things arrive crisp when you eat them there. Their lunch meats can be excellent. Even the cooks, whom you're practically dining with given the size of the room, have always been friendly. Then everything surrounding the food begins to feel slightly absurd. This is a tiny restaurant. Tiny. There are evenings when arranging four human beings around a table seems to require the logistical planning of an amphibious landing. Somehow there can be two people working the floor and you still find yourself wondering whether anyone has noticed you exist. Over the years the service has ranged from perfectly fine to bewildering. The kitchen has rarely been my problem. It's everything between the kitchen and my chair. Then there are the portions and pricing, which seem to have been determined independently of one another. The lunch plate can arrive with genuinely good meat, some rice and a scattering of lettuce that looks less like a salad than evidence that a salad recently passed through the room. And the potato salad, I'm sorry. It's good potato salad. But whenever potato salad starts approaching the price of an actual meal, I begin inspecting it for truffles, caviar or perhaps a small Treasury bond hidden underneath. So far, nothing. Delivery is another gamble. This food wants to be eaten immediately. Roast beef sitting in a container on its journey across the South Bay loses some of the reason you ordered it in the first place. Curry thickens. Fried shrimp contemplates its mortality. Eat here if you can. And that's ultimately my problem with Red Rock. After all these years, I still like it. I still come back. There are dishes here I genuinely crave. On food alone, I could probably talk myself into four stars. But a restaurant is not merely the thing the cook puts on the plate. It's the room, the welcome, the pacing, the portions, the price and the strange little choreography required to make the whole thing feel effortless. Red Rock has the food. I'm still waiting for the rest of the restaurant to catch up.

The…read moreambience is that perfect "I'm about to eat good and maybe overshare with my friends" vibe. It's warm, it's tidy, and it smells like happiness sizzling on a grill. The service was smooth, friendly and efficient. They check on you just enough to make you feel cared for, but not enough to make you wonder if they're trying to adopt you. Respectfully attentive, the way all service should be. Now let's talk food, because this place had me rethinking my bellies choices. The spicy beef soup pulled up like a warm hug from someone who also isn't afraid to roast you. Flavorful, comforting, and spicy enough to remind you you're alive. The beef ox tongue, wow ..listen. If you've never had tongue that melts like butter and grills up with that perfect little snap, this place will convert you. I was out here chewing like I was signing a peace treaty. The prime rib‑kalbi was so juicy and tender I almost apologized to it for eating it. Almost. The kimchi came in hot with the tangy attitude, balancing everything like the responsible friend in the group chat. And the raw beef tartare. So delicious and clean, fresh, and seasoned like it went to culinary private school. I took one bite and immediately felt like I should be wearing a fancy watch. Overall, Sei‑Ko‑En is cozy, clean, delicious, and unintentionally comedic, because every dish had me making faces I hope nobody recorded. A must‑visit for anyone who loves Japanese BBQ with Korean soul and a side of "wow, I didn't know food could do that." Exploring great food, one bite at a time! Miguel C.

This restaurant opened over 40 years ago in the 1980s. They have not changed their seasonings or recipes since then. A lot of their sauces and kimchee is made in house (and has not changed in over 40 years). This is probably the best Japanese BBQ experience I've ever had and I've had A LOT of BBQ experiences. My favorites are items you typically cannot get anywhere else. Their raw beef liver sashimi and their raw minced beef are amazing. It's really hard to find these creations. If you like liver, then you'll be an instant fan. If you're a little squeamish then you can always grill it a bit before you eat it lol Their cuts of meat are also a league above the rest. I loved them all! Their wagyu tongue, negi tongue, gokujo kalbi, tokujo ro-su, and pork belly are all worth writing home about. They also serve vegetables and salad to go with the BBQ. We also tried their yukkejan soup which is their spicy beef soup. It was very tasty. Savory and not too salty. Very well balanced. I'd eat this alone on a cold rainy day. The ambiance is busy with moderate noise. Lots of Japanese locals were there that night and were simply having an amazing time socializing. Overall 10/10. Definitely coming back!
