Came in this morning for the first time since the reopening. In a nutshell the food was better than normal, the service was good, the cook was a little slow and the staff was a little unorganized. The breakfast portion of the menu could be a little larger but was OK. Much better than the old owners but they still have some adjustments to make to be a top notch diner. read more

Stopped in for breakfast was seated right away and had Liz as my waitress not only is she adorable she is very efficient it took a little longer to get my meal then I like but nothing to do with Liz the food was great I will definitely be returning hopefully will get Liz again read more

This young man Alex at the age of 18 prepared one of the best breakfasts I've ever had. When he told us he has only been cooking since may we could not believe it. The Irish eggs Benedict was amazing , made with corn beef and just the perfect balance of onion and bacon!!! If I could give 10 stars I would give them to Alex for his amazing food and hard work!! Came in today with the family for breakfast, Had a great time, it was really busy but we didn't wait long at all for a table, Terri was our waitress and boy we were laughing the whole time, she is very nice and very funny, the food was excellent and the mimosas were the best, try the Carmel apple mimosa it has a caramel rim and it was perfect. definitely will be back to this fantastic place, and hope to have Terri again as we really enjoyed her outgoing personality! read more

Stopped here this morning for breakfast, very disappointed. First - My husband ordered eggs with hash browns and white toast but got home fries and wheat toast.second - all three of us got uncooked home fries. Coffee was like mud, and service was absolutely awful!!! While we were waiting at our table the waitresses brought back at least 6 dishes that were not correct to the cook staff. I'm all about having a little fun at work but the cook staff here were socializing so much that they couldn't pay attention to the orders they were making. Not sure I'll ever come again. We were waiting for 20 mins for drinks mind you it wasn't busy. We normally come on Sunday and the girls who work Sundays are great. Whoever was working Saturday (today) was horrible to include the "cook" who just kept rearranging tickets and wasn't actually making food. One of the boys who normally cleans off tables had to come over and help her and he was doing more than she was. Every time a waitress would come over she would give them attitude and slam stuff. So, I thought I would never come here again, however, due to the snowstorm and time I wanted breakfast, this was the only option. Disappointed yet again. I ordered a breakfast sandwich on a biscuit with coffee. My boyfriend ordered a 2 egg breakfast plate with hash browns, toast and coffee. The biscuit was cold and hard, it must have been at least a day old, the egg and bacon on the sandwich was fine. His breakfast was fine. The waitress sat at the counter and prepped silverware instead of attending to the patrons. At one time there were 5 workers in her area talking. We were never asked about our food or if we wanted a refill of coffee. I had to flag her down when she was grabbing her tip from a table to get a refill. Also, there was another wait staff washing the floor with a dirty mop while patrons were in the restaurant. That was disgusting. She had the mop bucket dragging it and washed the floor. If they have side jobs that need to be done, this should be done when the establishment is closed! And FYI, when we were there the owner was too. I can't believe the quality of this restaurant has gone so downhill! It's a shame and an embarrassment to the rich history Almac's once was! read more

Don't be fooled by the nice looking, authentic facade and comfortable atmosphere. The service is mediocre, the food is worse, the prices are rediculous. Ask for hash and eggs and toast and coffee and you may get upsold to corned beef hash (which tastes like hormel) and pay $20. Edit: I am told their corned beef hash is actually homemade. I'm not friends with the people at the 609 Locust Street cafe, but I have to say that they serve a better breakfast. read more

THIS PLACE ROCKS. Have been here a good number of times, probably enough to be deemed a "regular." Not once have I been treated with anything less than the utmost respect. Rob and Laura, new owners of a long-time city establishment, are running one of the tightest ships around and make you feel right at home. Before Almac's re-opened, it was difficult for me to give them my business as it was very pricey and the food was lackluster at best. So awesome! I've been here twice, and got very different things both times. Both were delicious. The first time, I got the chorizo hash, which was fantastic! Second time, I got stuffed french toast: it's crazy. It is thick, stuffed with a berry cream cheese filling, and then dipped in crushed oreos before being thrown on the griddle. I cannot recommend it enough!!! The only reason I dock a star is because it is VERY busy in there, and service was a bit slow both times I went. Definitely try this place! read more

Great little hole on the wall good food, all different varieties of foods for you to choose from. Nice atmosphere good for group get togethers. I just had THE worst breakfast I've had in YEARS... I've been to always several times since it's reopened and it's always been decent food. Today was HORRIBLE... and worse, not only did our kids get food 15 mins before us and they sent me the food I did not want to eat, but THEY MADE ME PAY FOR IT!!! They refused to take it off the bill... Please i BOYCOTT ALMACS as I've never felt so insulted by restaurant management in my LIFE...I've never had a restaurant experience like this EVER. Not only that, but the waitress said I could've told her any time I was unhappy with the meal but she NEVER CAME OVER until we were done. She arrived at the table while we were still waiting for the second half of our order and asked to reheat my coffee for me and I replied not at the moment but later when the rest of the food gets there. I never did get my coffee reheated but instead was treated dishonestly by said waitress. I believe they were overly defensive about me saying their chourico has was not actually "hash" at all, and took it personally that I did not want to eat it. They kept saying "well that's our recipe" and I replied that I understood but all it was, was SLICED chourico with potatoes and not actually hash (which is supposed to be diced small). Instead of agreeing to disagree and accommodating me by taking $3.00 off the bill, they told me they did not care if I didn't return with further business.I was NOT even asking for the meal to be taken off the bill, just the breakfast meat which I wouldn't have ordered had I known it was simply sliced chourico with garlic. The eggs were runny, the toast dry with no butter, and the homefries were plain and unexceptional, but I was still willing to try it again if they took $3.00 off the bill. My family ordered four meals plus sides and we had no problem paying for any of it- except for the food I did not touch. I feel insulted by the experience and have never been treated like that over something so petty. read more

This place is excellent, go there without hesitation. Not only is it a very authentic old-time diner but the food is fantastic. I had the house made corned beef hash, which came with wonderfully warm, crunch hash browns, marble rye and 2 eggs over easy. I thought for sure I couldn't finish the huge portion but I wound up eating every bite. It was just that good. My daughter loved both her greek omelet and her single pecan pancake. And the cost of our meal was under $20. Neither of us ate again for 6 hours! You can't beat the quality, the value and the wait staff, who really do a great job checking that everything is up to snuff. I wish Al Mac's was in our neck of the woods because we'd go there regularly. read more

Came for breakfast after many years, and it was great! The reopening was definitely a success. We went around 10:45am and we had no wait. By 11:30, it was packed. Service was awesome, and food was great. I had French toast, two big pieces of sweat bread done perfectly, not soggy, and my hubby had a breakfast burrito which he said was awesome, coffee was great also. This place has a cool 50's vibe. Been here twice, both times about 9 am. The food is good..both times I had an omelet with home fries and toast. First time it was the mediterranean omelet which I enjoyed. The second time was chorico which was just ok. Both times waitresses were nice...but second time she seemed kinda busy and forgot my hot sauce which I ended up getting myself. highly disappointed in experience. Went for lunch with a party of 4. Ordered an app (nachos) along with 4 meals. App arrived with 3 of the 4 entrees (first mistake) the other entree, which happened to be mine, took another full 15 minutes to come out despite being told repeatedly that it would be right out. The entree in question was a SALAD. The food was tasty but the lack of proper food order and then having to eat while the rest of my party had already eaten put a damper on my experience. There was no acknowledgment from mgmt about the delay and I was fully charged for the entree, the lack of attempt to make the situation right left a bad taste in my mouth. Well, still kinks to work out with wait staff. Went there at about 1:30 on a Thursday afternoon and sat at counter. Some people at tables, but not really crowded. After TEN minutes, I still had not been given even a menu! It was like I was invisible. Wait staff focusing solely on tables. So, since I was hungry, I put jacket back on and left for someplace else where I was seen, was given a menu, was served and actually got to eat! Wow...Where do I even begin. This past Wednesday (9-24) My friends and I decided to give the "new Almacs" a chance. I have to be honest I was nervous because I didnt have a great experience with the past Almacs. I can't even begin to say how impressed we were. First thing I noticed when you walked in was how clean it was. Immediately we we're greeted by the hostess and sat at a booth. Within seconds we had a waitress greet us and start us with drinks. We were waited on by a younger women with dark hair, wish I could remember her name but I remember her telling us she had a two year old daughter. She was the only one waitressing at the time and handled the busy restaurant great. She was personable, informative and answered any questions we had about the menu. She recommended the Corned Beef Hash. It was the best hash I've ever had, and that raisin bread was out of this world. Service and quality of food best I've had in a long time. Then to end the meal the kitchen manager comes over to see if we enjoyed our meal. I think this is a very nice touch because not many places take the time to ask. We will be back again!
