Al Mac's Diner is a diner. A diner is not a gourmet place with nice furniture, nor is it a refined atmosphere. A diner is a simple place that is timeless. Al Mac's is simple and timeless... Nothing too interesting or trending on the menu. No pancakes decorated with clown faces or colored sprinkles. No low-fat keto crap either. No poke bowls, etc. Very basic stuff here. Moey's sammie was wicked greasy and yummy. My Chix and Waffs were OK but were Tenders (not bone-in) and had White Gravy. Waffs were very soft and well-made and were the star. The dish was quite teenie however and I could have easily eaten two orders. Let's just say, they have coffee and they have eggs n' things. It's food. The establishment is appropriately janky, i.e., beat up and old. Friendly enough service. Food is diner quality... Recommended if you want to dine in a diner... It's legit... My review is as basic as Al Mac's Diner... Kiss my grits!

We originally were looking for another restaurant but when the parking issue prevented that, out popped this diner. I've been in those glossy chrome and plastic diners in NJ. Gaudy. Al Mac's diner is a no frills throw back to the thirties and forties. What's outstanding is the food. We sat on leather green and white retro chairs at a black topped table. We were greeted with a smile by Cheyenne. I asked her to guess what we wanted from the dinner menu and she knew we wanted the meat loaf. Just wonderful. It's served with lumpy mashed potatoes, two large cuts of meat loaf and a bowl of brown gravy. This is basic food done right. The coffee was unlimited. I knew there was a secret ingredient in the food which I will now incorporate in my version. In a few weeks we're going for breakfast. We're looking forward to their versions of pancaked and French toast. Had I room after this meal, I would have had the bread pudding. It's a warm memory. This is a good place to go for well prepared food. Oh, the bathroom was clean but like the rest of this historic diner, it's basic.

    Portuguese sweetbread French toast

The eggs were cooking perfectly and were very fresh. The yolks were almost a dark orange when I broke them. Some of the best over easy eggs I have had . The Portuguese sweetbread was huge and thick and tasted marvelous, would definitely come back just for this !!!! The only thing that I did not like was the home fries. Even my fiancé who never heard of things called spices thought these home fries were bland. They were also very soft and mushy. The customer service was outstanding!!!!!!

Great old time diner tahr takes me back a few decades. Super friendly service and very reasonable prices. Full assortment of breakfast and lunch options with a slight Portuguese flair. The your choices omelet (including a very good caciola) is a heck of a value at 10.99. No frills, just good and plentiful. Cannot go wrong!

Home fries, sausage, eggs over easy, toast and pancakes. :)

Today was our first (and not last) visit to The Hamilton Diner. Entrance way is at the end of a ramp, which I would interpret as a fairly tight squeeze if I was in a wheelchair. However, there was a fellow in an electric wheelchair making his way down the ramp as we were coming up, and we all made it up (and down) easily enough with just a pause. Hostess desk is immediately in the entrance. Very personable lady said it'd be a 25-minute wait, and that was pretty accurate. I gave her my phone number and received a message to download Yelp! including a "Your place in line" feature. Benches to sit and wait - one outside and three inside. We were 4th in line, and then 2nd, and then 1st. I felt a vibration from the phone but saw no message. So I went to the desk to check, and they were ready anyhow with 4 empty tables. Seated us quickly and our waitress Ashley was there in short time. Paula (wifey) ordered some Egg Sandwich and a small order of French Toast. I ordered Southern Benedict, which was a buttermilk biscuits base, topped with a fried chicken patty, 2 poached eggs, and smothered in a creamy sausage gravy, and it came with an order of home fries. We were both very happy with the flavor and portions. In fact I was rather full and didn't eat the last 3 or 4 bites. I also had an iced coffee, which was nice and strong. The place is very much where neighbors and families meet and greet. Lot's of "Norm!!" moments. Pricing if fairly average -- it was (with a 20% tip) $45 for us two. My only complaint had nothing to do with the restaurant, but with adults who don't know how to tell a kid not to do shrill whistling in a restaurant. No more details on that. Again, not the restaurant's fault. We definitely would like to go there again, especially to order some bacon, as that, in my estimation, is a very important factor for breakfast -- I just didn't have any reason for it this time, what with the chicken and the sausage gravy.

Apparently, the place just changed hands in the past month or two. Inside it looks about the same although the menu has changed somewhat. I got two dogs all the way without onion in order of fries and a coffee milk The fries came out and my shoestring, which are not exactly my favorite type of fry, but they were fried well. Apparently, if you ask for fat french fries you'll get the thicker cut ones which I will remember for next time. The hot dogs were well cooked and sauced. The buns seemed fresh. Service was friendly and prompt. The inside was largely the same as I remembered it. I sat at the counter and could view the galley kitchen, which seemed to be very clean. Prices weren't bad. I will likely return.

Unfortunately, that's where things started going downhill. It took 30 minutes before anyone even took our drink orders. During that time we weren't offered water, bread, or asked if we had any questions. Drinks, which were just water and soft drinks, took another 15 minutes to arrive. Around 8:45 our server finally came to take our food order and told us the kitchen had asked her to wait before putting it in. By that point, one person in our group had already left to get Wendy's because he was tired of waiting. Once we finally ordered, there were still no drink refills. We asked for waters for the table and were brought five glasses with, "I have five waters, who wants one?" We had 17 people. It was just kind of unbelievable. Our food didn't come out until almost two hours after we arrived. By then everyone was hungry and thirsty. There were two kids in our group, and it would have been nice if their meals had at least come out earlier. Or bring us bread or something to hold us over. We also had to ask for salt and pepper because there wasn't any on the table. They brought one set for all 17 of us. We asked for another and eventually got one more set. I understand large parties can be challenging, but if the restaurant can't handle a reservation that size, it probably shouldn't accept it. The one positive was our server. She was very nice and seemed to be doing the best she could. I really wish I could say the food made up for the wait, but it was just average. Nothing was bad, but nothing was memorable either. Overall, it was a really disappointing experience.

Not to mention the quality of the food for the $20. My Caesar salad was absolutely delicious too! If you like thick clam chowder, this is it. For meals we opted to split the honey, hot chicken sandwich and a buffalo chicken pizza. Not gonna lie, the bowl of chowder was pretty big, and I was pretty full by the time I was done with it. The honey hot chicken sandwich is more like a honey mustard chicken. It was still pretty good, but if you are expecting hot honey, this is not it. I opted to have the blue cheese on the side with the pizza, because my husband doesn't like blue cheese. The buffalo chicken pizza was actually really delicious. It was like a bar pizza that you would get from the south shore. You really can't find this pizza in Rhode Island or in Southern MA, so this was a great find. Staff were friendly and attentive. I didn't get any alcoholic drinks cause it was pretty early and not much of a day drinker, but it had a really good vibe and I'm sure it's a lot of fun at night. The drink menu looked really good so I'll likely come back for drinks and apps. There's a cute outdoor seating area. It was pretty hot so we sat inside, but I'm sure this is a great place to sit at night time once the sun goes down and it cools off.

We ordered the mini stuffies, the hummus plate, and the fried pickles. The mini stuffies were a highlight. Loaded with Mello's chouriço and packed with flavor, they're a solid little bite. My grandfather set the bar pretty high for me on stuffies, and these came close. They have a different profile than what I grew up with; a little less bready, more chouriço forward, and the clam flavor takes a back seat. Not necessarily a complaint, they were just different from what I'm used to and were genuinely tasty. The lemon aioli on top was also a nice touch. The fried pickles were exactly what you want them to be. Crispy, well fried, and the breading actually stayed put while you ate them, which is more than I can say for a lot of fried pickles. They came with the same lemon aioli as the stuffies, which worked just as well here. The hummus plate was a bit of a letdown. We've had it many times before and it used to be a standout. This time the hummus itself was thick and pretty flavorless, more like a dense chickpea paste than anything else. The accompaniments were nice though and consisted of heirloom carrots, cucumbers, olives, cherry tomatoes, asparagus, pickled cauliflower, carrot, and a pepperoncini, all served alongside some buttery round crackers that were like a Ritz cracker's more refined cousin. The veggies saved the plate, but the hummus needs to find its way back. I suppose it could have just been an off batch and won't prevent us from trying it again. Cocktails were great, as usual. I had the Anana with scotch. I love pineapple and this has muddled pineapple and basil, pineapple juice, cracked black pepper. It's my go-to here and it delivered again. My partner went adventurous and ordered the Jungle Booby, which is built around tequila blanco and mezcal with campari, pineapple, grapefruit, lime, orgeat, and an absinthe spritz. The flavors were genuinely good, but the smokiness from the mezcal was a bit much for her taste. She followed it up with a glass of rosé and had no complaints after that. The cocktail wasn't the problem, it just wasn't her style. One of our favorite spots in Warren for a quick nibble, for a good reason.
